I reinstalled 8.0.1 and iTunes will still not open. Not even the iTunes menu bar appears.
Rinse and repeat previous steps but this time I install iTunes 7.7.1
I thought it was going to work because an EULA appeared. I clicked OK. iTunes menu bar appeared this time but only the menu items "iTunes and Help". Still will not open to the point of usuability.
I can't even try to download iTunes 7.6 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes76.html) because it demands me to download iTunes 8.
What gives????OMG it's happening again.

I posted 7 photo galleries via iPhoto this morning. I've been attempting to open iPhoto to make a change to a title of one photo. The app. dumps on me and I report it to Apple, but I'm getting no response. I also tried to reload iPhoto to no avail. Any ideas?
Close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -
I was using safari fine until 8.30pm last night when suddenley I got the spinning ball of death and the words application not responding. I had to force quit. One day while trying to run the firefox application a box popped up and said:
"Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with the files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem."
Ive tried everything and even deleted and then reinstalled firefox... We miss it!!Please try
* disabling any background anti-virus software you have, as it may be using Firefox files while it loads and prevent it from reading them
* following the steps at [[Could not initialize the browser security component]] -
Installed 10.4 update and itunes will not open
Installed itunes10.4 32 bit version - after successful installation itunes will not open
any advise?Update to my last post. I have finally "fixed" whatever problem was causing the Apple software products to malfunction on my PC, Windows Vista 32 Bit SP2. After updating to iTunes 10.4 and Safari 5.1, a series of error messages would appear:1) AppleSyncNotifier.exe 2) iTuneshelper.exe 3) iTunes Failed to properly install - Error 7 (Windows error 126). I had tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes & Safari as well as downdating iTunes to an earlier version, but this had all failed to correct the problem and the error messages still appeared when the programs were suppose to have been removed.
I ended up using the Windows Program Manager (in Control Panel) to remove every single Apple product from my PC, including the Apple Installer. Then I restarted the system. Taking bits and pieces of advice from this forum, I started the system, went to the Apple website, downloaded and SAVED the newest iTunes version (which includes QuickTime), but did not run the program. Then I disconnected from the net, turned off all virus and firewall protections, and finally installed the saved iTunes program. It took an extraordinarily long time to complete the install, but I was able to restore my libraries from my iPod Touch (4th gen) by performing a simple sync. I reconnected to the net and updated the device software . . . so far, so good [knock on wood], no error messages yet. I will add each of the removed programs as they are needed in the future so that whatever conflict exists can be fixed - until then, I'm at least happy to have iTunes back! Hope this is helpful to someone and saves them the 4 hours it took me to get back on track -
My iTunes wont open in Microsoft 7 when I've tried opening it in safe mode it still will not open any help would be great, My iTunes wont open in Microsoft 7 when I've tried opening it in safe mode it still will not open any help would be great
HI,
First, there are no Mac viruses in the wild.
recently random sites have had a warning message thing come up that looks like a Norton Anti-virus telling me to run my browser in 'safe' mode or something.
So far it hasn't really done anything malicious, but I'd like to stop it before it does.
The file is an .exe file and unless you are running a Windows partition on your Mac, the Mac OS X cannot open those files. You're OK! If you are running Windows then you would need anti virus software, but it would be installed on the Windows partition, not the Mac OS X.
Nothing to be worry about. They are trying to get your to purchase anti virus software. Norton a/v for a Mac is the worst thing you could install. It's invasive and impossible to UNinstall.
You are running Snow Leopard... read here.

I have a 1st generation MacBook Pro and I recently downloaded OS X Maverick. My iTunes will not open because it says i need a 64 bit version. Already followed the promted instructions but no luck. Any suggestions??
Oh, you do have the C2D! That's great!
I'm no technical expert, I just like to help out whenever or wherever I can so... I don't know if this can help you, but let me tell you about how I got my Snow Leopard to run in 64 bit mode. When I got my (late 2008) iMac it was running in 32 bit mode under Tiger (2.4 GHz/Core 2 Duo). I eventually upgraded to Snow Leopard & it was running in 32 bit mode (by default) w/1 GB RAM.
Somewhere along the line, I happened to watch a YouTube Video that showed how to upgrade an iMac's RAM, so I ordered two - 2GB sticks of Crucial RAM and then - under the guidance of the 14 or 15 year-old young man who posted the video on YouTube; wearing a rather fashionable static-electricity-neutralizer-wrist-strap, I removed 1GB of RAM & plugged in the 4GBs of RAM. So - boom like that, it was like I bought a brand new machine.
It was over a year later when I stumbled across a way to boot Snow Leopard into 64 bit mode. Turns out that if you boot while holding down the 6 & 4 key combo (the ones above the QWERTY keys), then the machine runs in 64 bit mode. Go figure. Now my Snow Leopard and just about all of my applications - with the ironic exception of iTunes - runs in 64 bit. iTunes seems fine though; if there's a performance bottleneck, I really can't tell.
Well, that's about it..
I hope that something I've mentioned can help you achieve your overall goal.
Finally, it's hard to jump onto a train, a large cat, or a surfboard that's already moving. But don't be surprised when someone a fraction of your age shows you how to.
Best Regards,
mm~ -

My itunes will not open, it displays an error that MSVCR80.dll is missing. I tried reinstalling itunes but it fails because the service is not able to start.
Same thing happened to me. I ended up completely uninstalling itunes then downloaded it again from http://www.apple.com/itunes/. If you're using firefox, for some reason itunes will not download and I don't know if using googlechrome will also have problems,so just to be sure that it will work on your first try, use internet explorer when you download itunes. Good LUCK!!

Safari and iTunes will not open on my Macbook Air after Migration Assistant
I did the Migration Assistant via wireless (from Macbook Pro TO Macbook Air) last night and it did work. However, my Safari and iTunes will not open on my Macbook Air now. The error messages are as follows:
Safari: "Safari quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple."
- I tried reopening the app, restarting, and shutting down the computer. Nothing has worked.
iTunes: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?"
- I clicked "Download iTunes" but then another message comes up that all my software is up to date.
Any help is very appreciated.Try repairing permissions using Disk Utility.

itunes will not open, message says library was created with earlier version. what do i do?
Unless you just attempted to downgrade iTunes to an earlier verison this is probably a sign of a corrupt library.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.
