ITunes will not open because QuickTime will not initialize.

Please help!! I have tried everything from reinstalling to removing both iTunes and Quicktime and downloading them again. When I try to open iTunes (yes it worked before) it says, "QuickTime failed to initialize (error-2096) Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes." I have done all of the troubleshooting Apple has to offer and nothing has worked. I have even done system restore - Thanks for any help someone can give me!!!

I'll post the same thing I posted in another thread; it might help you. Reinstall itunes again according to my post. Some of the information is irrelevant to your problem, but hey, i'm kinda feeling lazy. You'll get the idea. Here it is.....
"this is just a suggestion. If you reinstall itunes again, make sure you follow the directions in the support section of this site for uninstalling itunes and quicktime. Another thing they don't say in that article that I did when i had to uninstall itunes was to do a search. You know, pressing the start button and then "Search". Make sure when you do, click the search "All files and folders". Then set it to look in "Local Hard Drives (C:)" or "My Computer"; i'm not sure which search will pop up your itunes files. Try them both. And then type in the "all or part of the file name" box, itunes. After the search is done you should have a bunch of different itunes components in the results. Btw do the same for quicktime as a search. Make sure to DELETE every itunes and quicktime file there. If some of your music files happened to come up in the search, use commone sense. Get rid of every component so itunes and quicktime is completely erased from the system. Make sure that you do this after you've restarted your computer once (according to the uninstallation article). Then just empty your recycle bin, reboot your computer, and finally reinstall itunes. Hopefully that will work to at least get rid of that APP error. Good luck and ask me anything you have some questions!!"
Hope that works!

  • ITunes won't open because Quicktime was not found!

This is the first time this error came up, when i open iTunes, an error comes up saying "QuickTime Unavaliable" and how i have to uninstall iTunes and install it again... Well i did that a million times and uninstall quicktime and installed quicktime over and over and over and over agaim and this error keeps popping up!!! I NEED HELP!!! This error has no number, it just says i need to uninstall tinues and reinstall it!

If you definitely have a working QuickTime but iTunes thinks that you7 do not, then this points to a particular type of error.
Do you have a computer that has been set up for a work network? You may find that iTunes works OK when the computer is connected to the network but doesn't at home when not connected.
There are other possibilities, but this is a common one.
If I have guessed right, the problem lies in the %path% environment variable. In order to look at its contents, could you do the following:
    Type:
    cmd
into your search box and click cmd under Programs.
The black cmd window will open.
Next copy&paste the following into the cmd window and press return:
    echo %path% >documents\path.txt
This will place the contents of the %path% variable in a text file called Path in (My) Documents.
Could you copy&paste this text file into your next post so I can look at it.
(Use ctrl V to paste into the editor, right click doesn't work.)

  • ITunes Won't Open Because of Quicktime

I have a computer with Windows 7 Pro and I can't get iTunes to work correctly on it.  I was getting an error message that was saying that iTunes couldn't open because Quicktime wasn't installed.  However, quicktime is installed and working properly.  I've uninstalled everything related to apple and reinstalled it, and after doing that, iTunes worked, but today I started getting the same error message.  I'm not sure what the issue is because there doesn't seem to be an issue with Quicktime.

I'm going through the SAME ****. I install Itunes and quicktime seems to go ok until the end of the installation and then all **** breaks loose. Some error comes up saying that I can't install it. THEN It says the installation finished successfully. So I click finish and what happends now is that it specifies that I need to update my quicktime to open itunes... I dont care about Quicktime, i want itunes to work, anyone have a link to an older STANDALONE version of itunes? Where you don't need quicktime?

  • ITunes will not open because Quicktime!help!

I clicked on the iTunes icon on my computer and a message pops up saying "Quick time is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes" and all u can do is press ok! how can i open my itunes???

Oops! The same thing happened to me recently. I removed Quicktime from my computer using the Add/Remove Program button in the control panel; I didnt realise that you need Quicktime for iTunes to work. To solve the problem you need to reinstall Quicktime - you can dwnload it from the apple website by itself - or download all of iTunes again - it comes with Quicktime. If you do this youwont loose any of your iTunes library, because you will be updating rather than starting again.
    Good luck

  • ITunes won't open, because it "needs QuickTime 7.0.3"--but I have it!

Same sob story, to a degree, that I've been reading about. BUT--when I click on the iTunes icon, it says it can't launch because QuickTime isn't up-to-date. That isn't accurate, because they download together! This is on a brand new computer, Dell Inspiron 6000. I have uninstalled the download and tried the CD that came with the Nano (an older version), and it installs but won't run, either. Just wants to send an error report to Microsoft each time I try to open iTunes.
I've tried a lot, including choosing iTunes not be the primary audio player. QuickTime doesn't successfully install when I tried a separate installation.
Running XP small business edition (just a souped-up version of Home edition). Computer also runs Microsoft Media Center...could this be part of the problem? I'm also running McAfee Security Suite.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get this going?
    Dell Inspiron 6000   Windows XP

Well, then we need to get rid of every Quicktime reference on your computer and start anew.
to Verify That All QUICKTIME Files Are Removed
    Go to: Start/Find/Files or Folders.
Enter QuickTime as one word in the Name box.
Click Find Now (be sure you are in the C drive of your computer).
Confirm that the following files are NOT on your computer. If they are still on your computer, delete them.
    QuickTimeInstaller.ini
    QuickTimeInstaller.exe
    QuickTimeInstallCache.qdat
    then reboot your computer
    OR
Close the program tray icon (lower right corner of taskbar) before trying to remove (or installing standalone)? ( or ctrl alt del and close these first: iTunesHelper.exe, qttask.exe)
    or:
Start - Run - copy and paste this into the run box:
    C:\WINDOWS\unvise32qt.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\QuickTime\Uninstall.log
(check to see if there is a file "uninstall.log" in the C:\WINDOWS\System32\QuickTime folder)
last resort (since you cant get rid of it anyway) -
    delete c:\program files\quicktime folder and c:\windows\system32\quicktime folder
run regedit - delete these keys:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Quic kTime
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.\QuickTime
Then, try downloading Quicktime Standalone and see if iTunes will open up after that. Good luck and keep me posted either way.

  • ITunes won't open after QuickTime update (Windows XP)

    Hi all,
Yesterday I was prompted by Apple Software Update to install the newest version of QuickTime, and I always comply. However, after the update now iTunes will not open at all! No error message, just the hourglass cursor for a few seconds to indicate that it's loading, then a regular cursor... and then nothing.
I tried connecting my iPod Touch since it's configured to auto-sync upon connect, still won't open. I then googled the problem and came across some methods that I don't want to try just yet, since they involve reinstalling iTunes. Also tried uninstalling Bonjour from the Add/Remove Programs menu, but this apparent solution did not work either.
I run Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 32-bit. This started happening after I updated to QuickTime 7.7 (from 7.6 I believe). Is there a fix for this problem without reinstalling? If possible, I don't want to lose my library settings. Thanks!

Could you check something further for me please, df? Is your QuickTime Player also currently failing to launch (with or without an error message)?

  • ITunes won't open because the iTunes Library.itl file is locked

Recently our motherboard died. When we replaced it, we also had to wipe our hard drive. We saved our files, including my iTunes library.
I reinstalled iTunes today, but when I tried to open it, I got this error message: "The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file." I can't find a Library.itl file, and I don't know why it's locked. What am I doing wrong?

How did you try searching for the ITL file?
If you do find it (it should be in \My Documents\My Music\iTunes), right click on the ITL file. Uncheck the "READ ONLY" box and do the same for the iTunes Music Library.xml file.
Or you can try holding down the shift key while iTunes is opening. Create a new library and name it NEW. Then at least you can see if iTunes will open.

  • ITunes won't open because the library file is locked

The iTunes 4 Music Library file is locked, on a locked disc, or I do not have write permission, what do I do? It was working perfectly until I plugged in my iPod. I waited, the iPod did not appear. The computer then told me that I had improperly disconnected it, yet I didn't touch it. So at that point I did disconnect it. My computer froze, so I restarted it and now iTunes won't open. Help!

    Megan hello,
welcome to the Apple Discussions open the iTunes folder in your Music folder and select the iTunes 4 Music Library file... type cpmmand - D and this will duplicate the file... put the original file on the desktop and change the name of the duplicate to be the same as one you just moved ... double/click on this file after the name change... if all is okay you can trash the file on the desktop later..
let's know if it all works again Megan .... TP

  • After Update ITUNES Won't Open, Apparent Quicktime Problem, PLEASE HELP

I Have recently updated my Itunes, after installation of the updates I was unable to access itunes due to a problem with Quicktime. After trying to repair quicktime, with no luck, I have uninstalled (following Apple’s support system). There were two programs labelled “Apple Application Support”, one allowed me to delete and the other older one didn’t delete and came up with the prompts below, so I just installed itunes/quicktime again. The same response happened when trying to open itunes. So I followed Apple’s support system and deleted all I could again. What was left is below, any help would be extremely useful.
In “Uninstall or Change a Program” of windows 7, I was unable to delete Version 1.1.0 which is 32.3 MB installed on the 03/03/2010 of the Apple Application Support.
*When deleting it comes up with a box that says:*
+The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.+
+Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package ‘appleApplicationSupport.msi’ in the below box.+
    C:UsersSeanAppDataLocalTempIXP722.TMP
I could only follow the path to the “Temp” part …\IXP722.TMP does not exist in that folder.
_Any Help with this problem would be Greatly appreciated._

This kind of problem often responds to using the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility. Here is a method:
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista and Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

I just got a new hard drive for my computer and the new operating system but now my itunes won't open and it says something about how the file can't be opened because it was created with a newer version. Help!

    Which operating system version?

I attempted to upgrade to iTunes 10.3.1 but it won't work because "quicktime failed." How do I upgrade now?

Update to 10.5.1. Itunes 10.2.1 is out of date by now and won't be possible.  Update to the newest version and you shouldn't have a problem

  • Itunes won't open because it says Quicktime was not found?

When I click to open Itunes, first this message pops up: The procdedure entry point QTCF_CFHTTPPMessageSetHeaderFieldValue couldn not be locate in the dynamic link library QTCF.dll.
Then i click OK and the same message pops up, and then another one pops up saying: Quick Time is not found.  Quicktime is required to open Itunes.  Please uninstall Itunes, then install it again.
Except I checked, and i DO have Quicktime.  So I uninstalled Quicktime, and installed it again.  I opened iTunes and ir won't work.  So I uninstalled iTunes and then installed it again.  Still doesn't work...

  • HT1926 My itunes won't open because it says "This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem" Can someone help? I don't want to delete it altogether due to needing the phone backup

I was given notification to upload the latest version of itunes recently, so I clicked installed. However it has since corrupted my itunes and I get the error message:
"This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".
In poor timing, I have also accidently damaged my phone and have a new one to restore it to an old back up.
It is because of this I am reluctant to completely delete itunes off my computer and start again for fear of losing my back ups.
Is there another way to fix iTunes so I can open it again?
    Thanks
