ITunes will not open on first try

For the past several versions, when I try to launch iTunes for the first time after starting/restarting my computer, it simply will not open. The icon will jump up and down in the dock for a while before settling down and saying "Application is not reponding". I have to force quit it and reopen. After I force quit the first time, it opens just fine until I restart my computer again. Not a big issue, but it IS a little annoying. Any thoughts on how to fix this?
Here's what I'm currently running:
13" MacBook Pro - 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo
OSX 10.6.8
iTunes 10.5.2 (11)
I run a couple apps on start up, but nothing crazy. I haven't tried disabling those, then opening iTunes, but I can't imagine it's one of these (although stranger things have happened I'm sure.) I run Caffine, Quicksilver, SugarSync File Manager, and Day-O on start up.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

How long after starting the computer do you start iTunes?  I see you're running a number of system hacks and I wonder if they are taking some time loading and somehow interfering.  You could try disabling some and see if it changes iTunes behavior, then decide on your priorities.
A quick way to test would be to hold down the shift key while starting the computer so it boots to Safe Mode.
What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X) - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107394
Safe boot mode runs a directory check command similar to that used by Disk Utility's repair.  In Tiger it ignores some stored information (cache) that is normally read that speeds up the boot process, and it moves some caches to the trash.  It also uses only System fonts and disables all Startup Items, third party items, and any Login Items.  Networking and some video components may also be disabled.

I even deleted iTunes losing all my data and thesame thing happened when I reinstalled iTunes, several times! Now I cannot use Apple TV. Frustrated.

  • My itunes will not open when I click on the icon. An system error appears. "the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Any ideas on how to resolve, I have tried installing

My itunes will not open, it displays an error that MSVCR80.dll is missing. I tried reinstalling itunes but it fails because the service is not able to start.

Same thing happened to me. I ended up completely uninstalling itunes then downloaded it again from http://www.apple.com/itunes/.   If you're using firefox, for some reason itunes will not download and  I  don't know if using googlechrome will also have problems,so just to  be  sure that it will work on your first try, use internet  explorer  when you download itunes. Good LUCK!!

When you gte requests to locate iTunes.msi like this, the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility usually fixes it.
Here is a method for removal, clean up and reinstall of iTunes.
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Itunes will not open in my windows 8 laptop

Itunes will not open on my windows 8 computer..can someone please help?

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

  • The iphoto and itunes will not open please help

on my Mac G5 the iphoto and itunes will not open can anyone help

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Then, hold the Option key down when trying to open iPhoto, does it ask where it's Library is? Or what exactly happens?

  • TS1717 iTunes will not open- please help!

My iTunes will not open.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the same message keeps showing up when I try to open iTunes.   The error reads "C\Windows\system32\dssenh.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.  Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."
    Please Help!!!

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with one of the Windows OS dlls associated with Cryptographic Services.
I'd first try the fixit from the following Microsoft document. (One of the things it does is reregister your copy of the dssenh.dll file.)
You cannot install some updates or programs
... but if you still get the issue, I'd try an sfc /scannow as per the instructions in the following document:

  • HT1199 Newer version of iTunes will not open.  My music is gone.  How can I get the older version back?

My "newer version" of itunes will not open.  How can I either get it to open or get the older version which worked fine?

Restore the backup before you installed.
If you didn't make a backup, at very minimum make sure your Music library isn't compromised by locating the folder you selected the music to be in (usually in Users -> yourname -> Music) and make sure there are several MB of data there by clicking once on the folder, and selecting Get Info from the File menu in the Finder.
If you can't find it, try to locate parts of track names with Find Any File.
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
then determine which parent file of the .mp3 or .mpa files you have contains all of the music files by getting info under each previous folder in the folder tree.
Once you determine which folder contains all your music, back it up using the Finder, or backup the entire hard drive using cloning software at least to two different drives or two complete copies on DVDs:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
You'll then want to erase and install 10.6 from the system installer you used to put 10.6 on your Mac, and run the combo 10.6.8 updater and apply the necessary security updates:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3261
Then you can install older versions of iTunes for the Mac from here, once you determine which version is compatible with 10.6.8 that you liked before by first checking which version is compatible with what you need:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes_version_history
Once you know that, if you can't find it with Google, let us know and maybe one of us can help. Lastly reload your music in your music folder, and your other applications.

  • ITunes will not open in Snow Leopard

For inexplicable reasons, iTunes will not open. I am using an Intel iMac with a 2Ghz chip and 3 gb of ram. I have tried deleting iTunes and reinstalling, deleting plug-ins, and running Disk Warrior 4.2. Nothing works, and Apple wants me to pay $29 to talk to someone on the phone. Since this is a Snow Leopard issue that seems unfair. Is anyone else running Snow Leopard unable to open iTunes, and if so, how is the condition fixed?

Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

My itunes will not open at all - I repeatedly get the message"itunes library is corrupted...not installed correctly...please reinstall itunes" I have tried opening all my itunes folders but nothing will even open.

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

  • Itunes will not open safari webkit2 error... :(

all of a sudden my itunes will not open... i've folllowed ALL of the steps to fix it... no results... my safari keeps giving me a webkit2process.exe error and quicktime does not work!!! help!!!!

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Coregraphics.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program using the orginal installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendor for support" with an OK button.
After clicking ok i get another error saying "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (windows error 193)
Those ones suggest you've got a damaged Apple Application Support program file. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. (Click through the iTuneshelper warning.) Then head into your Uninstall a program control panel. Select "Apple Application Support" and click "repair".
Does the repair install go through okay? If so, restart the PC again and try launching iTunes again. Do iTuneshelper and iTunes launch properly now?

    Restart the PC first.
If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair".

i purchased music from itunes and now itunes will not open.  how do i get it back??

Hmmm. There's a couple of things that might be going on with that one.
Let's try an uninstall and reinstall of QuickTime first.
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Select "QuickTime", click "Change" and then click "Remove".
If you're using & or Vista, head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select QuickTime, and then click "Uninstall".
You can get QuickTime back either via Apple Software Update (in your Start menu go "All Programs > Apple Software Update" ... QuickTime should appear in the "New Programs" section), or by downloading a QuickTimeInstaller.exe from the following location:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL837
