Itunes will not open, uninstall or install, Itunes will not open, uninstall or install

Eversince I got the itunes message to upgrade my itunes my itunes has stopped working. I cannot open itunes, I can't uninstall it and I cant install a new itunes setup. What is going on?!
Everytime I click itunes to open I get this message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriatepermissions to access the item."
Ok so my next step is to check the permissions for the actual program and I have all administrator permissions linked to my account!
So then I thought maybe I should just uninstall it and start over... Go to control panel, uninstall itunes....  I get this message from itunes "The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\program files\itunes\acknowledgements.rtf" ... Weird... So I go to that address and try and delete or open the file... I get a message saying I have no permission to do so... so I guess I have to see if I can change the permissions right?! Still same thing... I have all admin permission for this file AND for all of my itunes file! :/
Fine... let me see if I can install itunes instead... Go to the itunes website... enter email... download setup... open setup... I get the same message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriatepermissions to access the item."
Can ANYONE help?! What am I doing wrong here?

Did anyone get back to you on the issue?

  • ITunes 10.2 Upgrade fix temporary. Fix to iTunes 10.2.2 by uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support and install AMDS from 10.0. Worked only to fail in 5 days. iTunes back to very slow to open and will not see device (iPhone) connected. Sorry

    I was one this site for 20+ Days and found a fix for 10.2.1 when it failed. I Uninstalled all, following other attempts that failed, then installed latest Version from Apple iTunes 10.2.12. I then uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS) and installed AMDS from the older 10.0 version of iTunes. Success it worked. Today, I am now back to old problem, iTnes takes very long time to open and fails to see my device when connected (iPhone). I really only have iTunes for my iPhone no extensive library a few hundred CD's in music location and no podcasts. I have less than 6 moveis and want to update them now. I am willing to lose all in iTunes library if need be just to get computer to see G3 iPhone with iOS 4.2 and let me synch once again. I like security of backup too. It older iTunes may now not support, that too is OK. I still want to get the 3GS (no 4G desires, yet) and do not care if any of it is the latest from Apple as long as it works.

    Hi Erik,
    Your basic suggestion actually worked for me. But this is what I did for others who are having issues removing/installing etc.
    1. Download the latest iTunes 8.2. You should end up with a file iTunesSetup.
    2. If you dont already have WinRAR, download free copy from http://www.rarlab.com/ and install.
    3. Right click on iTunesSetup and choose "Extract" to somewhere you know. eg C:\itunetemp
    4. Open up folder where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi
    5. It should ask you if you want to repair or remove... choose remove.
    6. REBOOT your PC.
    7. Go back to where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi and go through the install.
    8. Plug in your iPhone.
    If all is well iTunes should automatically start and start syncing your iPhone.
    Goodluck all!
    Cheers.

    Hi texasslagle,
    It sounds like you are having issues installing iTunes on your Windows 7 PC, a frustrating situation I am sure.
    There is an article that you may want to use to try to complete your install here -

    I also tried to download the new version of iTunes and install it at least five times, but it won’t finish the installation. It says "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. Error code 2330. It says the same thing when I try to uninstall iTunes.

  • I am trying to uninstall itunes as it will not open error 7 (windows 126) so that I can reinstall but keep getting the message.. The feature you are trying to remove is on a network resource that is unavailable itunes.msi... Any suggestions anyone

    I was unable to open iTunes and got a message error 7 (windows 126) so I tried to uninstall and download latest itunes 10.  When I tried to remove old version of itunes I got the message... The feature you are trying to remove is on a network resource that is unavailable and when I try to download iTunes 10 the message reads.... The installation source for this product is not aailable.  Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.  Can anyone help?

    A msi file is short for microsoft installer.  It normally is for installation, removal, and maintenance for a program. So iTunes.msi would be used for the updating of the program.  For some reason it isnt finding this so we can't update, install, or remove it.
    From what I have seen windows installer cleanup utility solved related problems before.
    I found this forum about removing and installing a new iTunes.  It was about someone who was trying to isntall iTunes, and was looking for msi file and asked for help.   Using this should allow you to be able to install iTunes.  It won't give you the msi file but will allow you to isntall iTunes over again.
    This was what was said.
    Another option in case you can't get an msi. (Or even if you can ... the msi's mentioned in the messages may be damaged rather than missing.)
    Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
    Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
    After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
    If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
    Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
    Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • ITunes installed - will not open

    I am experiencing the same problem as a majority of users on this post. iTunes worked without a hitch until I installed Version 6 two weeks ago. Now, I can install iTunes and it allows me to complete the install. However, when I go to open iTunes, I receive the error message window:
    "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
    We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please tell
    Microsoft about this problem." I have the option
    to "Send Error Report" or "Don't Send."
    I have followed every helpful tip that has been posted over the past two weeks to no avail. These include:
    - uninstalled iTunes and downloaded and installed iTunes
    and Quicktime individually;
    - turned off Anit-Virus software (McAfee) and
    uninstalled, dowloaded and re-installed iTunes and
    Quicktime together and separately;
    - run MSCONFIG and tried operating only with qttask and
    iTunes helper checked;
    - run MSCONFIG and tried operating with only iTunes
    helper checked;
    - run MSCONFIG and tried operating with iTunes helper
    NOT checked;
    - run McAfee and SpyBot repeatedly;
    - run EWIDO virus/adware/Malware scan;
    - and all combinations of the above-listed actions.
    None of these have worked. I am at a loss for what to do next. Obviously there are many iPod users out here who are experiencing the same exact issues.
    Several posts indicate that calling Apple does no good.
    Someone please help - my patience level is beyond shot.
    Rence

    hmmmm...what a headache,eh? I want to try a few things in your case. First, I want you to uninstall the iTunes. If you need to run the Microsoft Installer CleanUp Utility to get all the remnants out. Somewhere along the line something in the install is all kinked up, so to speak.
    I dont know if you tried this, but...
    . Make sure you have that file called "mapi32.dll" found in your Windows/system 32 folder.
    If you cant find it let me know, I can guide you through it.
    Next, make sure All these are started: TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, Windows Management Instrument, and WMI Performance Adapter.
    How to do this: Click on the Start Menu;Right Click on my computer and then choose manage in that menu. In the left hand panel click "services and applications" and double click services. Find those files and then click them and see if they say started and automatic
    Next, download the standalone Version of Quicktime, with your antivirus stuff turned off.
    Then Restart and download your iTunes with the antivirus turned off. Then restart and it should work.
    Also, I would try a program called CCleaner which will clean out your registry. Its a free program. It seems like many are having iTunes issues due to registry problems. I would download that first before proceeding to the other steps. Make sure you let CCleaner back up your registry before you proceed, that way, if there is an error and the system becomes unstable, your registry is backed up. Let me know if this helps in any way.

    Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
    Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
    Can you launch your iTunes now?

  • Itunes will not open/ cannot uninstall quicktime

    Since restoring my PC following installation of replacement harddrive, I cannot get into itunes. It says itunes has encountered problem and needs to close. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it will not let me uninstall Quicktunes. I get a DLL function call crashed error. Can anyone help? Thanks/

    Emma,
    I was able to get my iTunes working again - I can't remember the exact order of my steps as I was at my wits end, but I did have luck when I followed the Windows Troubleshooting tips for "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
    I believe that I did the following steps:
    -I installed the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility then opened it via Start/All Programs/Windows Install Cleanup. (see more detailed instructions in the article referenced above.)
    - I selected iTunes from the list and clicked Remove
    - I also selected QuickTime from the list and clicked Remove.
    - I restarted my PC after exiting Windows Installer Cleanup
    - I checked for QuickTime and iTunes in my Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and removed them if they existed
    - I may have restarted my PC again at this point
    - I then downloaded standalone versions of QuickTime (I did this before iTunes) and iTunes. I found the links to the standalone versions of these applications on the same document with the Clean up iTunes Installer files instructions.
    - I did another re-start of my PC
    After doing this, my iTunes miraculously worked again and all of my song files were intact from the restore that I did after clearing my hard drive.
    I urge you to try this at your own risk... it worked for me, but I'm not an expert. Maybe someone else will see this and can confirm that this is a good fix for you too. I'm sure if you're as frustrated as I was, you are willing to try almost anything!
    Good luck!

    i tunes will not update it says before i open itunes it wasent installed correctly but i dont want to lose everything i have how do i fix this?

    It looks like you may have to reinstall itunes.
    There are multiple things you should uninstall (and in a certain order) according to apple.
    Also, even thought your music and itunes library information should not be affected in the uninstall, I would strongly recomend backing it up. Go to where you keep your music files and make sure you back up everything in the folders "itunes" and "itunes music".
    The directions for the reinstall are here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 They include what to uninstall and in what order. This is for itunes 9 and earlier, but I think it is the same for itunes 10.
