ITunes will not open. What should I do?

iTunes will not open. I've tried restarting my computer, and that's about it.
I don't see any support documents regarding this, and am somewhat at a loss for what to do. I've never seen this happen before.
I'd appreciate any help. Thank you!

Hi,
This is a problem affecting many people after updating to Yosemite 10.10.3. If this is the case with you, try the following steps.
Go to your Applications folder, select iTunes, go to Finder > File > Get info and in the window that appears, go to Sharing & Permissions, unlock the padlock with your password, and change all permissions to Read & Write. You can now drag the iTunes app to the trash. Go to iTunes tab at the top of this page and download and install iTunes.

My sim tray is locked, and whenever I put the sim eject tool in the hole beside it, it will not open, what should i do?

Use a small thin piece of plastic (metal tools are likely to scratch the case)  and work along the seams of the tray. In all likelihood your tool is unlocking it but the tray itself is a bit gummed up, jammed.  Be patient, don't force things, and you'll probably get it open in short order.

normally both versions will install on a 64 bit system (and both should work).

  • IPhoto will not open, what should I do?

"Turn off the computer and restart, and then open iPhoto. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. This is done by quitting iPhoto and then open the program again while holding down the Option and Command keys. You can also try to restore iPhoto library from a backup." I have tryed to turn off the computer and restart many times, but what sould I do then... I don't want to lose all mye pictures :-( Please help me! Thank u very much

Do what it says.  Your photos will be safe in the library even if iPhoto can't access them. Make a backup copy of the library before trying. Here's another approach: Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Itunes will not open, message says library was created with earlier version. what now?,

itunes will not open, message says library was created with earlier version. what do i do?

Unless you just attempted to downgrade iTunes to an earlier verison this is probably a sign of a corrupt library.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • What is going on - my itunes will not open?

All of a sudden, my Itunes will not open? Have uninstalled, reinstalled, etc. no difference...

SO you get no error message when you try to launch iTunes, Just a brief flash of the hour glass then nothing?
After trying to launch iTune, go to the task manager and look to see if you can see iTunes.exe running on the processes tab.
If so, here is a troubleshooting method for this particular type of launch failure. This is a diagnostic process aimed at finding the cause of the problem. You will need to post pack with information about what happened when you tried the various steps. Once the cause of the problem is identified, we can look for a solution.

Troubleshooting silent launch failure in Windows XP
Before checking if iTunes works, restart your PC or close the iTunes.exe process with task manager if it is running.
A couple of simple things to try:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
Stop the bonjour service, this FAQ has instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2250?viewlocale=en_US
But usually it is due to a problem with cryptographic services.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.
    Start>>Run>>Services.msc
you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Then work through *Method 4* in the following link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.
If there are no errors try starting iTunes.

My itunes will not open no matter how many times i try! It says its due to a problem. what do i do?

When you gte requests to locate iTunes.msi like this, the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility usually fixes it.
Here is a method for removal, clean up and reinstall of iTunes.
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

Help! iTunes update 10.7 will not open: WHAT TO DO?
Recently I updated to Snow Leopard from 10.5.8  and then updated to 10.6.8. The recent update to itunes 10.7 has completely failed as iTunes fails to boot up and just send a message to Apple. So now I cannot access my music library. I tried deleting the new iTunes 10.7 and reinstalling iTunes 10.6.3 and also 10.3.1 with exactly the same result. I did the installation after turning off as many background software items as I could like Sophos Anti Virus and Little Snitch. This makes one want to give up on software updates - I have had an increasing number of failures as my machine gets to 5 years old.

  • The iphoto and itunes will not open please help

on my Mac G5 the iphoto and itunes will not open can anyone help

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Then, hold the Option key down when trying to open iPhoto, does it ask where it's Library is? Or what exactly happens?
