Itunes will not playback music...?

I have a nearly brand new iPhone 3 (less than 2 months). Recently I have been having problems with iTunes. For example, if I choose a song, it will "play" - ie: the play button is now changed to pause, as if I could pause the song, but the bar showing time progression is at 0:00 and will not move forward.
I have tried restarting iTunes and restarting the phone. I have also done all recent updates to the phone...Any tips?

Howdy ICrashIn2000,
It sounds like there's an issue playing back music in iTunes on your iMac. Take a look at the article linked below and make sure the issue isn’t caused by incompatible third-party iTunes plug-ins.

My iTunes will not synch music downloaded from CDs from my laptop to my Iphone. Help!

Are you seeing an error message in iTunes when this happens?
Are you syncing the music manually, automatically or over-the-air?
To get a better idea of the syncing options take a look at this video and this Apple doc -> iOS: Syncing with iTunes

  • Itunes will not reconize music in file

itunes will not recognize music files in new computer.  I have done everything in the help video and in the instructions.  I have re-download itunes also, and restarted the computer many times.

Dave, you are a god among mere mortal men!
I had used the check to only load certain tracks on my iPod mini that my kids use, while loading everything on my iPod 60GB.
I guess I should come up with a different method for that.
Thank you for clueing me in on how the checkmark works.

  • Itunes will not sync music to iphone

Since downloading IOS 5.1.1 my selected music in iTunes will not download to my iphone 3GS. Never had this problem before. The itunes library shows all the albums I want to sync checked off and even when I connect the iphone with the sync cable the songs will not be synced. I've looked at all settings and everything looks the same as it always has. I did get a new iphone 3GS recently to replace a stolen one but all settings remain the same other then the new software 5.5.1.
    Help?

Somehow this was related to me having to purchase a new 3GS when my other was stolen. At the same time we bought a new iMac. When I set the iMac up for my wife I set up a 2nd user account for myself. In that account I synced my new 3GS. It had all my music on there. My Macbook, where I thought the music files were still residing, had music files which were "grayed" out. When I tried to play a song from that extensive list I got an error message that the song could not be played because the "original" file could not be found. So I turned on "File Sharing" on both computers and when my library showed up on my Macbook I copied and pasted all the songs to my Macbook's music  library. I then had to go back and delete all the duplicated "grayed out" non-working files. I then synced my iphone to the new library and "voila" the music files had migrated.
There might have been an easier way to do this but I couldn't find it...and at least this worked!

  • ITunes will not play music, songs stuck at 0:00

I know this is a frequent question as I've spent three hours searching through the support discussions here as well as elsewhere online, but none of the possible solutions I found posted worked for me.
The problem, if you're unfamiliar with it, is that iTunes will not play any music (either songs I've ripped or songs I've bought off of the iTunes Store).
I've tried updating iTunes and Quicktime, uninstalling and then reinstalling both, updating my audio drivers, playing with the preferences of both iTunes and Quicktime, made both programs the defaults for all associated file types, and rebooted countless times.
I'm on a 3-month old Dell Inspiron running Windows 7 if that makes a difference.
Any new suggestions anyone has or something random you may have tried that solved a similar problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I'm afraid the problem is more widespread than just iTunes and the update didn't fix it. There's a thread out there about users not getting any sound/audio in Lion after wake from sleep or just having it idle for a long while.
Hopefully, Mac OS X 10.7.2 will fix the issue.
    Thanks!

  • Itunes will not recognise music on my ipod?

I have recently encoutnered a problem with my 5th generation 60gb ipod which I'm hoping someone can help me with?
When I plug my ipod into my computer and open itunes, it recognises that the ipod is plugged in, but asks me to set-up the ipod, like it is the first time I have used this ipod. Also it does not recognise any of the 5,000 or so songs on the ipod.
When my ipod is not plugged into my computer all 5,000 songs still appear on it and play with no problems.
For some reason itunes will not recognise the songs on my ipod - even though I have added them all with this software and about a third of them on this computer.
If I choose to proceed with the set-up of my ipod, I am afriad I will lose all 5,000 songs off my ipod.
Can anyone offer a suggestion - as it is, I either wipe my ipod or concede that I can't add any more songs to it, even though it is only half full.
Oh yeah, I have added all files to my ipod manually.
    Thanks!

With those symptoms, it's probably worth checking to see if you're getting a Windows drive letter confusion. For troubleshooting advice on that, see the following document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • Itunes will not play music or other media files suddenly.

Itunes will be playing a file, usually an audio file, then suddenly it will stop playing mid track. When I tell it to continue using the shortcuts, or the controls, or window bar it says it playing but no volume is produced and the track does not actually play as marked in the status bar.  No error is reported or crashing. Any suggestions? Only remedy is closing itunes and opeing the application again. Mild annoyance but it shouldn't be happening. Macbook Pro on Mavericks  and latest version of itunes

  • Itunes will not play music in old library after upgrade

please help! everything has been working great until I finally responded to the upgrade prompt itunes is always giving and upgraded to the 7.2 version. now, the itunes program will not allow me to play any of the songs that were in the library before the upgrade. they are all marked with an exclamation point in the first column, and when i click on them they say itunes cannot find the file...when i search for the files, I find a "previous itunes" folder but cannot retrieve the music. afraid to connect ipod to computer, for fear of wiping all of those songs off the ipod. have over 400 songs...would like to be able to retrieve them. already authorized computer. what should I do?

  • Itunes will not recognize music in folder

On my computer I have all my music in the itunes folder like it is supposed to be. After I import the music itunes will recognize it for a while but after a few days it will not recognize the music. Itunes says it cannot locate the file even though it is in the same place and has not changed in any way. All my files are MP3. I had this problem after my computer crashed earlier this year so I thought it had something to do with that along with some other problems. So when I had to completely reinstall Vista I thought my problems were over. I downloaded the newest version of itunes and imported a fraction of my music collection to test it. Still no luck as it still will not find the files. All my music files come from many different sources and this happens to random files from each source including the store. In one case it even deleted a file for an audio book when I tried to relabel it as an audio book rather than a music file.
Is there anything that I can do to the files or to itunes to make it recognize them? Should I convert files into AAC? Is there a setting I've missed that is undermining me? Please help me because this is driving me nuts!
Thank you for any help you might be able to give! ^_^

Using TweakUI to Move or Create Your Library/My Music Location
Use TweakUI (See: ’Disk is locked’ or ‘iTunes folder cannot be found’ when installing or opening iTunes ) to create a 'My Music' folder in a spot where you desire. iTunes should then find this location and deposit its Library files there, and the 'iTunes' folder and sub-folders as well (if you direct it to).
First, see this Article for some background information: What are the iTunes Library files?
If you cannot see the ‘My Music’ folder within the TweakUI drop-down selection, proceed on to the following:
1 On the start menu go to ‘Run’
    2 Type in RegEdit
3 Navigate in RegEdit to HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
4 Delete any entry for ‘My Music’
5 Navigate up the tree to HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
6 Make sure there is an entry for ‘My Music’ and is pointing to C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\My Music (you can edit the value by double clicking it)
    7 Close RegEdit
    8 Reboot
iTunes &/or TweakUI should now be able to find the folder.

  • HELP! iTunes will not play music...

I recently had my hard drive replaced in my HP DV7 notebook.  Im running windows vista (NOT by choice!!)
My laptop arrived with nothing installed. fortunatly I had backed up my iTunes library on my external HD. I reinstalled iTunes and all of a sudden a heap of music was dumped into my iTunes library
When I went to sync my iPhone 4 and my iPad1, the iTunes library was trying to override the music that was already on my iPad and iPhone.  For some reason the music on my iPhone and iPad is different to that in my library, which I dont understand.
I have tried to bring the music from the iTunes backup over but nothing is working....
Also, none of my music in iTunes will play
I have googled and done everything I can find and nothing is working..... My music will also not play in windows media player either...
So my questions are:  HOW can i get my iTunes library to be exactly as my iPhone and iPad are?
    And
How do I fix my music so it will all play again?
I have turned off automatic updates and only do manual backups of the iPhone and iPad now as well as transfering my purchases manually but I am worried that when my iPhone is replaced next week, when I try to sync my new one, I may loose everything from my original iPhone backup (last backed up today)
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I could not update my windows drivers because my computer does not have Internet Exploder - I use firefox - and when I did finally find a place to access the different browser items, internet explorer would not download.
As for the drivers, according to the website, my drivers are way too out of date to update (they're from when I first purchased my computer back in 2003).
As for how I updated iTunes, apple update on my computer started automatically downloading it when i had itunes open the last time.
As long as I don't go to open itunes, music will play in musicmatch and realplayer and even through my DVD.
What it says is (and this is the last time it opened) it said something like: "iTunes is unable to open because the sound and audio drivers are missing". The other message that i got was along the lines of "iTunes will be unable to play because the sound and audio drivers are missing/damaged." and then it will open and you go to double click on a song and it doesn't even start playing.
I apologize if the message is not recognizable, but I had to unplug my computer and move it back home so it's been traveling this weekend and I cannot plug it in.

  • ITunes will not play music videos through airplay

This is a specific user account issue.  If I create a new account I do not have this issue.  That being said I really want to solve this for my existing user login.
Music Videos (and tagged as such) play in iTunes fine.
If I select my AppleTV (which is listed as an airplay device).  It completely ignores the selection and continues to play on my Mac.  I am unable to play Music Videos over airplay.
When playing music I am able to select any airplay device and it works fine.
When playing movies I am able to select any airplay video device and it works fine.
If I change the Music Video tag to Movies it plays fine
If I change it to Home Videos it plays fine.
If I try to launch iTunes in safe mode it fails to play at all because of the lack of Quicktime support.
Obviously it's something in my ~/Library that is messing it up somehow.
The only plugin I have is AudioScrobbler.bundle and removing launching iTunes does not solve it.
I've tried recreating all of my iTunes preference files and that doesn't solve the issue.
    It's maddening!
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Greg

I have narrowed it down to the ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.iTunes.(incredibly long hash).
Removing this file causes a new one to be regenerated and that solved nothing.
Removing the ~/Library/iTunes directory and the ByHost preferences file and rebooting did work temporarily.
There was only one plugin (AudioScrobbler.bundle) in the iTunes directory.
I was able to play a music video and select the AppleTV and then broadcast to it.  This lasted last then a few hours and now it's back to the way it was before.  Select the AppleTV is silently ignored.
Highly frustrating.  I have a broke and fixed version of the com.apple.iTunes ByHOST preference file but doing a diff of the two is useless as most of the xml entries are long strings of hash values.  No human discernable difference between the working and not working files.  At this point I defintely want to file a bug report.
