ITunes will not re-install after virus infection in Windows Vista

  Hello there!
I hope you are having a good day today!
My name is Austin and I hope you can assist me with a problem I am having re-installing iTunes.
Laptop: TOSHIBA Satellite L305-S5877 SYSTEM UNIT
  Model No.: PSLB0U-07K02D
Windows Version: Windows Vista Home Premium - Service Pack 2 - 32-bit Operating System
The laptop belongs to a friend of mine.  He contracted the MS REMOVAL TOOL virus, at which point he brought the machine to me to clean it of this virus   for him.
Following instructions I found online, I cleaned his machine of the MS REMOVAL TOOL virus.
Here is a list of software I used and is currently installed on his laptop:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (installed and used to remove the MS REMOVAL TOOL virus)
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 (installed this for virus protection)
Secunia PSI (installed this to locate and patch programs that are a security risk)
Advanced SystemCare Free 4 (installed and used this to clean up registry errors and such)
Here is a list of basic maintenance tasks I performed after removing the virus:
  Ran Disk Cleanup
  Ran Disk Defragmenter
  Emptied the Recycle Bin
  Updated the system drivers
  Ran Checkdisk
Once I cleaned up his laptop and it was running fine, I gave it back to him.  He proceeded to bring it back to me the next day explaining that iTunes               wouldn't open.  I went to http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and downloaded the latest version of iTunes and proceeded to run the installer.
I have tried several times to get the installer to run, but all I get is this error message each time:
The older version of iTunes cannot be removed  Contact your technical support group
After several failed attempts to get the installer to run, I went online for help.  I found this article on apple.com which addressed my exact problem:
  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
I have followed these instructions EXACTLY no less than 4 separate times and continue to get the same  error message.
I have done manual file searches in DOS using the /s switch and by using Windows Search for anything related to:
  Apple
  Quicktime
  iTunes
  Bonjour
  Apple Software Update
  Apple Mobile Device Support
  Apple Application Support
and made sure either they were copied to my Seagate FreeAgent Go drive or deleted completely.
I have made sure that the iPodService.exe service was NOT running.
I have run a disk defragmenter after every time I followed those steps listed above but to no avail.
I have disabled the AVG Free Anti-Virus protection and that did not make a difference either.
I have used the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, but iTunes does not appear in the list of programs to uninstall.
The installer does the same thing every time.  It seems to run fine and appears to get close to the end of the installation of iTunes, then quits suddenly and   posts that error message you see above.  I am at a loss for what to do next.
I just found another article suggesting I empty the Temp folder in Vista which I did clearing it of everything related to Apple and iTunes and tried to re-install   iTunes using the iTunesSetUp.exe installer and got the same error message listed above. HELP!
Thank you so much for your time, assistance, and great patience in reading this long letter!
P.S. He needed his computer for the weekend, so I won't be getting it back until next Wednesday.  I'm hoping to round up some suggestions so I can get       right to work on it when I get it back.
I do hope you can help me.
  Thank you so much,
  Sincerely,
  - Austin

Hey!
Glad to hear that you and your family made it through relatively unscathed!  I think we all need to take better care of our wonderful planet, because I think we are upsetting Mother Nature!
I have the Windows Installer Clean-Up screen up and tried to upload a screen cap for you, but IE immediately shuts down every time I try.  So I'll have to transcribe the screen for you:
  I see the following:
(All Users)
(All Users) [1.2.0.10]
Those are the top two lines.  The following lines after that are programs he has installed on the machine like Acrobat, Adobe, Autodesk Inventor, and such and they all have a name and program number in brackets.
And I now again have the obligatory Apple programs installed and listed again:
(All Users) Apple Application Support [1.5.1]
(All Users) Apple Mobile Device Support [3.4.0.25]
(All Users) Apple Software Update [2.1.2.120]
(All Users) Bonjour [2.0.5.0]
Please note that iTunes is NOT LISTED.
Everything else 'appears' to be normal, I'd say.
Take care, and I'll see you on the flipside!  According to my clock, it's 4:11am Thursday morning there!
See ya!

  • ITunes will not complete installing!

I have had probelms installing iTunes for apx 2 years. (when version 6 was released).
So I thought I would try to install version 7.
I installed QuickTime v7.1 with not problems, however when I try to execute the "iTunesSetup.exe" it seem to reach the end of the install process and then I get a message stating that "The older version of iTunes cannot be unistalled".
I have gone thru all of the posts on this discussion and tried every trick mentioned when the 1603 error has occurred with other people. Yet it still will not complete the installation process.
I found the "iTunesSetupxxx.log" and displayed it to see what is occurring and it still has the 1603 error as being the last error. I have included the last part of that log below:
    fdintCOPY_FILE
file name in cabinet = QuickTime.msi
    uncompressed file size = 24522752
    fdintCLOSEFILEINFO
file name in cabinet = QuickTime.msi
    fdintCOPY_FILE
file name in cabinet = AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
    uncompressed file size = 2078720
    fdintCLOSEFILEINFO
file name in cabinet = AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
    fdintCOPY_FILE
file name in cabinet = iTunesSetupAdmin.exe
    uncompressed file size = 108096
    fdintCLOSEFILEINFO
file name in cabinet = iTunesSetupAdmin.exe
    Executing: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe" /i "C:\DOCUME~1\JOE~1.CHA\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP508.TMP\iTunes.msi"
    Returned: 1603
I have looked for the folder mentioned in the executing line and cannot locate it.
Anyone have any ideas that are outside of the normal posts listed in this forum?
I have deleted everything that is remotely related to iTunes, iPod, QuickTime, and even Apple from the registry after backing the registry up of course.
Yet I have not found a way to get around that 1603 error.
    Help!

I have investigated a little further on my initial point where I could no longer run iTunes. The last functioning version that I had installed was version 4.8. When I tried to upgrade to version 5, it gave me an error that some of the install files were corrupted and then it froze up. The only way it could be ended was by using task manager. From that point on I have had nothing but trouble. I tried to reinstall version 4.8 but I got an error on that as well. So ever since this occurred I have been trying the newest version just to see if it would accomplish the task of creating a functioning version of iTunes. Each time it will reach a certain point and give an error message about the older version could not be removed.
So that is my history on this issue.
Anyone out there have any ideas as to what I can do to at least get a version that will work installed?
Even it is the same steps that have been given before, at least I will know someone is actually listening to me and not igoring me like the apple support does.
    TIA!

  • Vista will not boot/install after performing a restore to factory settings on satellite l305

I have a satellite l305 that i bought new thru walmart.com about a year & a half ago, and for the past few months it seems like there are more & more issues with this pc that are causing it not to work properly-everything from drivers failing-or even disappearing, in some cases-to  crashing into a blue screen everytime i insert a micro sd card into the slot.. My sound drivers are gone & even after i THOUGHT i downloaded them again, they still won't install or even recognize that they are there and then yesterday it suddenly stopped being able to fully load some of my fave games  that i play daily.. I have tried EVERY SINGLE SUGGESTION in EVERY  article, forum, help site, etc.,that i could find & even tried to get help over the phone from a pc tech here locally, and nothing has been able to fix my issues. I have done so many system restores from so many different restore points, installed updates, uninstalled updates, tried to install new drivers, rolled back drivers, started in safe mode to do diagnostics checks, entered BIOS & checked EVERY setting, reset all settings to default, checked error logs, etc., etc., etc...I have even completely disassembled my entire laptop & checked all wiring, fuses, etc., made sure everything was working, etc., So, finally yesterday I decided that it's gotta be something to do with a tech issue-probably with my vista home premium OS that came pre-installed at purchase, so i thought it best to just go ahead & go into the back up & restore & back up all my files onto an external hd using the file transfer wizard option inside the restore center, and then proceed into restoring the pc to it's factory, or "out of box", state. And i assumed i covered my bases by saving the back up-just in case...ohhh no-not the case at all!
It did't even occur tp me to that i might need an actual BOOT disk for vista after the fact. I just assumed that "out of box" meant just how it originally came-WITH vista pre-installed & ready to set up-like it did the day i bought it! i also was under the assumption that, isnce it never asked for a product key or anyting to activate vista then, that it wouldn't need one now either. But anyway, so this is where i'm at now-after i did the factory restore & turned it back on, it said to wait while windows finishes installing-but it never finished, then finally about an hour later, it said that windows was unexpectedly interrupted during installation & did not complete, and for me to restart pc to try install again. But after i did that, it was the same thing over & over. it NEVER installs!
So then i decided to go ahead & "restore windows using back up image" that i created on my external hd prior to  the factory restore, thinking that  it would just kinda pu **bleep** all back, but thats not working either. it recognizes the drive, and takes me to a menu where i can actually even view all the files on the drive and even tho they are known by my pc to be back up files, it still won't associate them to being back up files to MY PC!! I even got desperate enough to find a site that claimed to offer a free vista boot disk in the form of an iso image that i burned onto cd & tried to boot from as well. That actually took me to an install screen for windows & all the way to where it asks for product key-which DID NOT come locatedon any sticker anywhere on my laptop, and because they DID NOT include any OS utility, install, or boot disks with the purchase of my laptop, i don't know what the product key is OR where else i might be able to find that info, and i WILL NOT pay for ANOTHER ONE,  just because they were too lazy or cheap to send  the disks with the pc! so i tried to skip this step till later, but when i skip it, it shows anpther error saying that install was terminated & could not finish install & if i wish to continue, for me to restart my pc & re-attempt install..WHAT IS GOING NE WITH THIS AND WHAT CAN I POSSIBLY DO TO JUST BE ABLE TO USE MY LAPTOP AGAIN?? HELP ME PLEASE SOMEONE!!

    Hi,
I do not really understand... Did you made a backup before restore to factory settings? And did you copy all backup files to an external device? If not, the data is gone!
Why? Restoryng to factory does not mean a reinstallation. It means to fill the whole harddisk with an image of the first (factory) installation. All other data will be destroyd! Other partitions are deleted and normally you find only one big partition - the whole hdd.
If you have a complete backup on external drive and it is corrupted during restore, try to open the files manually. Maybe you can restore some single files.
    Good luck
    kind regards
    Stefan

  • HT1491 My password in iTunes will not work, even after changing it. It keeps showing a window to add PW. I do and it pops up again.

My PW in iTues will not work. Even after changing it. Window pops up and ask for PW. Over and over.

I would be worried about that - but it may turn out to be nothing.
Since you already changed your password, you're probably OK - but I recommend looking at your purchase history to see if there's any unauthorized purchases (use iTunes on your Mac or PC to go to the itunes store, then click your account in the upper-left or upper-right corner). If there are any new purchases that you didn't make, click the button to report problem (and if they happened after you reset your password, you should immediately change your password again).
I think sometimes when you change your password and verifiy your credit card info, it can "reset" the warnings - so it may actually have been you logging in to your own account that caused you to get the warning. But I'm not absolutely sure of that, so it's best to check your purchase history (and reset your password if necessary - but you already did that).
I also recommend turning on "two-step verification" (but Apple makes you wait a few days after changing your password to turn that on). With "two-step verification", Apple will send you a text message with a 4-digit code the 1st time you try to buy something from a new computer - since a hacker won't have your phone, they won't be able to continue (theoretically). After the 1st time, it goes back to mostly working normally (until the 1st time you  try to purchase from another new computer, then you get another text message - so this alerts you to someone, somewhere else, trying to get into your account).

  • ITunes will not delete file (after confirming & sending to recycle bin)

Files deleted within iTunes do not disappear from my hard drive.
I answer "Are you sure you want to remove the selected podcast from your iTunes library" and select the "Remove" button.
I then answer "Do you want to move the selected podcasts to the Recycle Bin, or keep them in the iTunes Music folder?" with "Move to Recycle Bin".
Music files (mp3) occasionally delete properly but video podcasts (Geek Brief to be specific) will not delete.
Music is stored in J:\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music which is slightly non-standard but seems to fit the rule of being "inside" the iTunes folder.
Any ideas? [I've seen similar but not quite the same posts where people are trying to delete files outside the iTunes folders......]

I too have this same problem with deleting video podcasts. The problem doesn't happen all the time, but probably a majority of the time. It is quite annoying as many of the video podcasts I subscribe to are in HD format so it is rather frustrating to have to manually delete them from the iTunes folder after deleting them thru iTunes, but since they take up gigs of space it is necessary to go in and clean them out every once in a while.

  • G56 will not start install after format and copy from recovery usb

so i just replaced the hdd in this laptop running win7. i am trying to fix the imminent hdd failure message for one of my mother's friends. anywho... i created the usb flash (13.5gb) and then replaced the hdd. went into the bios and enabled usb floppy and moved it up in boot order.
the pc boots into recovery fine. it formats and copies the files over also. what it will not do is reboot into the install of windows. all it wants to do is reload the recovery. i have tried many different ways of getting this done and nothing seems to be working.
at first the floppy was first. now i have it second, after the hdd. i have pulled the usb after the format and copy. i have left it in.
i dont know what else to do. any help from yall would be a wonderful thing.
    thanks,
    patrick

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Sounds like you are using the wrong restore disk to install Mac OS 9. The G5 came with its own restore disks to install Mac OS 9, and that version is 9.2.2. The restore disks for the G5 are labelled such.
If you purchased the G5 used from someone else, and they did not include the original disks, contact them for the disks. And if they lack the disks, ask them to call AppleCare and see if they can get the disks. If you lose the disks, and are the original owner of the machine as a new machine, call AppleCare and see if you can get the disks yourself.

  • ITunes will not play videos after 10.7.0.21 upgrade.

This morning I received a pop-up that a new version of itunes was available...blah, blah, blah...I agreed and upgraded.  Since then videos will not play.  It starts, the viewer comes up, a black screen then itunes crashes and it's back to the desktop.  The videos worked fine before the upgrade and I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.  What to do now?

Let's try the following user tip with that one:
iTunes for Windows 10.7.0.21: "iTunes has stopped working" error messages when playing videos, video podcasts, movies and TV shows

  • Apps in itunes will not re-install on iphone

Installed iOS6 today, there was some sort of probelm and I had to wipe iphone and do a restore... now the vast majority of my apps will not resintall on my iphone, I get a message saying there was an error installing apps and it lists them all.
Is it because they are not compatible withi iOS6?
    Any other thoughts?

I'm having similar issues.  My iPhone shows "Dock Connector" as one of my speaker choices when playing music.  I cannot send sound to the earpiece.  Intermittently alert sounds works.
Ringer works but alerts don't.  I only get vibrate on alerts.
The hardware volume buttons don't work.  The Ringer icon shows up on screen, but the volume can't be changed.

  • ITunes will not start even after permission repair, disk repair.....

Let me continue plst files, deleted old install and re-installed, downgraded version, ran disk warrior, tried new user account. Backed up everything re-installed fresh OS, still did not start, installed update plus latest version of iTunes. Still does not start. Called Apple support, did the usual permissions repair etc..... Ran Apple Hardware Test no problems found, TechTools Deluxe no problems, MemTest no problems.
On hold now waiting for Apple support again. I am assuming at this point there is a unknown hardware issue. Any ideas?

You really went the extra mile trying to pin down the culprit! So.... who was the culprit anyway? which hub? the keyboard acts as hub, was this powered or un-powered, too? which would be of interest.
Instead of hub, maybe a PCIe USB2 card?

  • Firefox will not re-start without "ending process" with Windows Vista Task Manager.

    Error Message:
“Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.”
Have to start Task Manager and then end firefox.exe process.
    Thanks all.

  • DOWNLOADED  a copy of Lightroom 6 as free software with my camera but it will not run on my 32 bit machine, windows vista and ther are no download option availble for Adobe.

How do I get someone from adobe to interact with me on this problem. So far Contact links have not lead to Adobe support person.

Adobe has been posting a warning about system requirements for Lightroom [6] a while ago. This is from that message:
'In order to leverage the latest operating system features and technologies, Lightroom 6 will require Mac OS X 10.8 or above, or a 64 bit version of Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. Focusing our work on more modern operating systems and architectures allows us to spend more time adding functionality requested by users, including additional advanced imaging features and improving general application performance.'
So the only way to work with Lightroom [6] is to upgrade your operating system from 32 to a 64 bit version, like Windows 7 or 8.1
A 32 bit version also will not be available. Another choice is to use Lightroom [5] in stead.
