ITunes will not recognize any of my ipods

None of my ipods will show up as devices in iTunes. System profiler recognizes the ipod as a USB device. I am using a brand new cable and have tried multiple USB ports on the computer itself.
I am running the latest version of iTunes...

Panther is quite outdated operating system, it would be better if you could upgrade atleast to 10.4 "Tiger", 10.5 "Leopard" is the last operating system which will work with PowerPC -processors (G3, G4 and G5) so you might want to upgrade as much as you can at once. Apple does not seem to host any versions of iTunes on their website which would work on 10.3 "Panther". iTunes 10.1 will not work with Panther. I Googled quickly and it seems that iTunes 7 is the last series which workd on 10.3 but they might too old to support your new iPods.
I think you'll need to upgrade your OS.

    Hello, bone61.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your device is not recognized by iTunes, I would recommend the steps in the article below.  Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  If the issue persists try all remaining steps.

  • Itunes on my Imac G5 will not recognize any of my ipods

I was given an Imac G5, which has hardly been used and had never ever had any updates. I connected my Ipod Classic and Nano ( all circa 2007, 2009) and Itunes doesn't recognize it as an Ipod so I cannot sync them. I am very new to the Mac World and would like to know if I can update the operating system ( Panther Mac OS X) to another more current system. I downloaded Itunes 10.1 but all I keep getting is a window saying "The Installer Package " Install Itunes" cannot be found. The Bill of Materials for this package was not found". I am sorry I have no ides what this means. I hope someone can help. Many Thanks

  • Help I itunes will not recognize my iphone or ipod. Trouble with USB driver, device not running in safe mode, and HDCP not supported.

Help! When I connect my iphone or ipod touch to my computer, windows recognizes my device but itunes will not. I can still see my songs, videos, and access the itunes store but my phone and itunes store have no connection so it does me no good. I have for 2 days now tried every trouble shooting method posted with no luck. I think I may have finally found a lead. My Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is showing up under portable mobile devices while it is supposed to be showing up under universal serial Bus controllers from my understanding? Also, while running my diagnostic report under itunes it also says itunes is not running in safe mode, it is not showing enabled in windows firewall (which it is checked), and the HDCP is not supported. I don't know what to do? I am in tears here, someone please help!!!

  • TS1591 iTunes will not recognize ANY of my three devices

This evening I attempted to sync my iPod touch (4G) and it would not show up in iTunes at all. I tried different ports, different cables, resetting the device, shutting down and restarting my iMac (which is only a few months old). NO recognition whatsoever.
Other devices (my optical drive and my backup drive, audio interface) connect to the iMac via USB just fine. No incidents. In fact, the iPod appears to be charging, so it's connecting. Just not syncing.
So, I tried my iPad. It's only 9 months old. No recognition, no sync, nada. It doesn't exist in iTunes. I reset the iPad. Still nothing. It charges but won't sync.
So I tried my iPhone 5 (just a couple of months old) same response. Nada. no recognition. What's weird about the iPhone is that I was connecting via Wi-Fi, and THAT sync capability disappeared too. I can't even restore Wi-Fi sync because I have to be connected using the sync cable to do that.
Three devices, no sync capability. The mac otherwise works just fine.
Should I or can I reinstall iTunes? Is that even possible? Otherwise, I am at a loss. What's worse is that I'm not finding many other incidents on Apple support--except for one or two unresolved ones and that's not very encouraging.

Sorry, but trashing the iTunes preference files didn't work, though your instructions were clear enough. The only thing I wondered about was the prefs for the ipod and whether those should/could be trashed too.
One other observation--I had a problem with iPhoto last night as well (when it rains, it pours) and found a similar solution on the discussion. Not only did that fix iPhoto, but iPhoto was able to read the contents of my iPad just fine. So, my iPad is at least being recongized by another application--just not friggin' iTunes!
Oh, and I tested my iPod on my wife's Vista machine--iTunes read it with no trouble (once the drivers were installed, that is...) So, I'm leaning towards a reinstall of iTunes...unless there are other suggestions to try?
Would anyone from Apple care to weigh in? Particularly with the iTunes reinstall, since I guess that's a bit of an ordeal on OS X.

  • ITunes will not recognize any of my libraries!

It just started happening today. iTunes wouldn't open my library and would make me 'choose a library.' Everytime I chose a library it wouldn't open. Those necessary files are there, but not working properly (one of my libraries said it was damaged). When I went to the library, I clicked on the xml file and the temp file and then they just suddenly disappeared....
I noticed that there a lot more temp files in my itunes folder...is that a virus or something?
Please help...it's really hard to explain!

  • HT1449 I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices

I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices. Help please

The ipod is not a backup/storage device.
You need to copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
The Apple store will do this for you,  you can call apple support and they will help you, you can use google.

Well, there is always the possibility that it's been jailbroke, in which case, you're out of luck.  However...

  • My itunes will not recognize my ipod shuffle after installing Mcafee

My itunes will not recognize my Ipod shuffle, I have tried almost everything Itunes has suggested including uninstalling and installing Itunes.  I am at a loss, the computer recognizes the ipod and assigns a drive to it.  When I click on the drive there are flies in it.  I have disabled the firewall, checked all firewall settings as suggested in previous forums.  I have tried deleting the temp files but that keeps getting hung up on a file that says it is in use.  I can stll use my ipod because it charges but I can not update songs etc.
I contacted Mcafee but all they did was turn the firewall off (I could have done that myself).
If there is any help I would appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Nadine

The first thing I did in the morning was contact McAfee they turned the firewall off it didnt work so they said it wasnt their problem.  I attempted several other things using ITunes help but none of the solutions worked.  I would say it is something in my computer but the drive shows up in my files so the computer is reading the USB port.  I tried changing the drive but that didnt help.
I cannot find a universal "OFF switch" in McAfee But I have turned the firewall off several times after many different attempts.
I do not find an area where I can tell Itunes where the Ipod is in Windows Explorer, that would be helpful at least it could try to locate it then. You would think this feature would be available since Itunes would like us to purchase music through them to load on our equipment.  Since my computer does not recognize my Ipod there is no need for me to purchase music.
Do I sound frusturated - I AM But I appreciate your trying to help.

  • Itunes will not recognize my ipod. How do i fix this?

Itunes will not recognize my ipod. How do I fix this?

Connect your iPod to any computer with iTunes installed, highlight your device and try syncing the apps only. If it doesn't work might have to restore through iTunes. With the new iTunes and iCloud beta, you can have the iTunes list what apps are missing on your device but if you had previously purchased in the past and then have iTunes install them. You should always get in the habit of backing up your iPhone whenever you do any firmware/OS updating/upgrading or transferring over to new device. I really really really really hope you can get back at least some of your old info. I will tell you this, I have been kicking myself in the butt for not routinely backing up my iPhone when my beautiful special iPhone 4 came up missing and had to revert back to my 3GS. iPhone 5 will be released in a few months so I am holding off on purchasing a new iPhone til then, not that I did so without reservation and a little bit of iPhone 4 withdraw.

  • HT1459 Serial number is faded and too small to read. Itunes will not recognize my IPod Classic. How can I delete the current iPod software and reinstall it to see if this would solve the problem?
