ITunes will not recognize iPhone 3gs, but the phone charges. I've tried everything!

Hi
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.
I've tried a different USB port.
I've turned the phone off and on.
I've restarted the computer.
I've restarted the AMDS.
I have all the latest updates.
I'm using an iPhone 3GS on a Windows 7 laptop.
I have no other problems with the phone, and I did nothing to make it unrecognizable.
My computer recognizes it as a device, but iTunes doesn't.
iTunes does however recognize my iPod.
Please help me!!!

Does you have tried everything include verifying the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed, checking for 3rd party mobile phone software installed on your computer, and troubleshooting 3rd party security software?

  • ITunes 8.2 will not recognize iPhone 3GS on Windows XP Pro

Hi guys. I just got a new iPhone 3GS and I'm having problems getting it to sync up to my PC. I have an HP NC6400 PC notebook with Win XP Pro SP2. I installed the latest iTunes 8.2 and connected my iPhone, but nothing happens. The iPhone doesn't show up under devices and it doesn't ask to install drivers. I did several days of research on the net and tried a few different things. I booted up the iPhone in recovery mode, and it then asked to install a driver, but couldn't find any valid drivers. I found on a post somewhere that the iPhone uses a driver called USBAAPL.SYS under C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, but that file is nowhere to be found. I tried removing and reinstalling iTunes, and even tried iTunes v8.1, but no luck. I even found a link to download the file and tried to install that driver for the device, but it didn't recognize it as a valid driver. I tried connecting my iPhone to a friend's computer (Dell desktop PC also with XP SP2) and it worked perfectly, but on my own PC, no luck. There's something wrong with my PC.
There's another symptom that I noticed and I'm not sure if it's directly related or not. When I load iTunes, I get this message:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I found a post referring to this on Apple's support site here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2372?viewlocale=en_US
I followed those instructions, and it seems the error message went away. Still though, no iPhone!
Can anyone please help me? Are there more diagnostics I can run? Is there a way to REALLY be sure iTunes has been completely uninstalled? Is there a way to see if some other software may be interfering with the installation of the drivers? My iPhone works fine on other PCs, but not mine! Thanks for your help!
    Eric

Hey guys. Ok it looks like I figured it out for myself.
I opened the iTunesSetup.exe file with WinRar, and it allowed me to extract the individual .msi files for the various iTunes components. This included AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi, AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, Bonjour.msi, iTunes.msi, MobileMe.msi, and QuickTime.msi. I then ran each .msi individually and Removed each component. Once this was finished, I ran iTunesSetup.exe again and installed from scratch, and it worked! It looks like there was something wrong with an old installation and it never completely uninstalled. Now it's detecting my iPhone and working fine!

  • Windows & iTunes Does Not Recognize iPhone 4 But It Charges?

I have an iPhone 4 16 GB Factory Unlocked. Yesterday it was fully working. I don't know why, today, my PC doesn't recognize it, even as an camera. I don't see Apple Mobile Device USB Driver listed in the device manager. Tried several programs concerned with iPhone, but no luck.
Uninstalled everything related Apple like iTunes, Bonjour, Apple Application Support etc., and used a program called "ByeTunes". Reinstalled iTunes but it does not work. I tried plugging it to my laptop, still doesn't work.
Also, I'm using Windows 7 x64, and re-installed Apple Mobile Device Support for 64-bit several times. It didn't work.
However my phone charges, does not beep that plugging sound or show charging indicator but the battery level increases, when I plug it to my computer. But when I try to charge with firewire it works.
And last, my PC can recognize my phone in DFU mode, fortunately. But I'm afraid of being stucked at restoring process.
    What should I do?
    Thanks.

I am facing the same issue. Tried everything like, Reinstall Itunes, Tries the sync on 3 diffrent laptops with windoes 7, XP and vista, Connecting in restore mode, DFU, Apple mobile devices restarted..nothing has worked. I am not sure if i do "erase all setting and content" will help  because if the i tunes cant recognise the i phone now, then after erasing everything will it recognise to restore??
Can any 1 help if i do " erase all setting and content" will help and will itunes recognise the iphone then?

  • ITunes will not recognize my iPod, but windoes DOES.

When i plug my 30gig iPod into my pc via usb, windows recognizes it, and it even prompts iTunes to pop up. After this however, nothing happens.
I cannot get iTunes to recognize my iPod, therefore cannot update it.
I have tried all of the steps on the troubleshooting guide on apples website, and itunes still will not update my ipod. I also even switched the letter of the iPod drive as directed by another post.
    Please help!

    Hello,
Yes, I can help you with the "can't mount iPod" issue. Check out these steps:
Eject your iPod from computer (for now).
    Close Updater and iTunes programs.
    Restart the computer.
Put your iPod into disk mode.
Connect your iPod to your computer again.
See if your Updater works for your iPod.
Also, if that didn't help with the problem, your iPod's hard drive might be out of place, if you're getting this kind of message. If you suspect so (especially if you hear strange sounds and clicking coming from the iPod), then try this:
Tap your iPod firmly on both sides several times, using your hand. This might work for you to tap your iPod'd hard drive back into place. It's not just a joke, since it works for lots of people, if their problem was the iPod's hard drive being out of place.
    I hope this helps!

  • ITunes will not update iPhone 3GS to 4.3.5

I asked this question in the iPhone Hardware discussions but after reading around the support discussions it seems my iTunes is the trouble.  I have an iPhone 3GS and when I hook it up to iTunes there is a message stating that there is a new update for the iOS from my current 4.1 to 4.3.5.  When I click on the update button, a window pops up stating that iTunes version 9.1 is the latest version but there is nothing about the update to the iPhone.  Any ideas?
      Thanks

  • TS4036 I need to restore my iphone 5. Yesterday there was an icloud backup dated 4/1/14. Today I only see a backup with the lost data from 4/4/14. Itunes will not recognize my device, yet it is charging and importing pictures. Any suggestions?

Yesterday my autistic daughter was using my phone, as she often does.  Some things got deleted.  I went to do a restore and it showed the last backup was 4/1/14. My phone auto synced at 10:51 AM on 4/3/14.  I had to leave, and when I came back itunes no longer recognized my phone.  Its charging, it can import pictures, but nothing on itunes works.  I wanted to do a restore, but now I only see the 10:51 backup, which is after selected items were deleted.
My questions:  How can I make Itunes recognize my iphone (running windows 8)  How can I find the backup from 4/1/14, as it has the most current information?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Shelly

Whenever I update from Windows 7 get error 1602, iPod shows USB connection to iTunes, but iTunes will not recognize the device. None of the Apple documentation helps. The Apple Mobile Device driver is loaded and operating. The anti-virus software and firewall are not at fault (were uninstalled, and made no difference). The iTunes on my older machine running Vista does recognize the inoperative iPod (iTunes has detetced an iPod in recovery mode) and allows me to restore the device. Can anyone help to resolve this problem on the Windows 7 PC?

So yu tried all of this:
Error 1600, 1601, 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
If you had then time for an appointment at ther Genius Bar of an Apple store.
