ITunes will not recognize IPod Or Nano

Help - i have spent the entire day reading and trying different options to no avail.
I have a Dell Latitude D620 Microsft XP. I have not synced to my nano in 2 months. Just purchsed an IPod Classic for my girlfriend.
I connected the nano to the computer. ITunes comes up as it should, but does not show the device. Windows does recognize it.
Ipod - samething.
I can not get Itunes to show the devices so that I can sync.
I have tried uninstalling and installing ITunes several times.
I give up and I am at the point of returning the IPod.

Kristine, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that already, to no avail, and have also reinstalled iTunes and trashed the AppleMobileDeviceHelper files per the instructions..

also without result. Glad that you were able to resolve your trouble with a hard reboot, thanks again for the suggestions.

  • Itunes will not recognize Ipod Touch

Ok, so I tried to install Itunes 8 when it first released the other day. I received the BSOD, I ended up reverting back to the last known working configuration for windows. So back to Itunes 7.7.1 or whatever. Plugged my Touch in, and it would not recognize at all. I checked in the hardware config and it seemed that the drivers were not installed for the Ipod. I found out about the HP printer fix, and unplugged my HP printer. I installed Itunes 8, works fine now.
BUT, I plugged my Ipod Touch in, and I get a new hardware wizard, installs the drivers, and asks what I want to do with it, pull pictures off? It's acting like an external drive. Itunes won't recognize it though, no beeps stating it was connected, just won't recognize it is there.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

The first five of those I actually tried. I should check the services menu, and I uninstalled Itunes, but did not restart afterwards. So when I reinstalled, everything was still there. I will try doing that tonight after work.

  • Itunes will not recognize ipod-complicated

Installed itunes on computer 2 and purchased a new song from the itunes store. My ipod will not show up on itunes to sync this song and I had hoped to get my library of music from my ipod transferred to this computer. Help!

  • HT1459 iTunes will not recognize iPod for syncing, downloading versions, etc?

I am attempting to connect/sync/download latest version of iTunes to my brand new iPod Touch, 4th generation.  Nothing happens.  It says I need to have 10.6.3 version or higher, but when I attempt to download to the iPod, it only downloads to my computer.  I am connected via the USB cable, not via WiFi.

Well, it looks like the iPod will need to come back to factory settings none the less. Try doing this:
First, show "Hidden Files and Folders" (Open my computer, click on "Tools" then Folder options, click on the view tab, put the dot next to show hidden files and folders and apply, ok)
Then, Terminate ipodservice.exe and ituneshelper.exe (This is assuming iTunes launches)
Connect the ipod, wait for it to show in My Computer.
Double click on it and you will find an ipod control folder in here - Drag and drop this to the recycle bin, close and open iTunes....Let's see if the ipod will be recognized allowing you to restore it.

  • TS1410 My iTunes will not recognize my iPod Nano 6th gen.   It has worked in the past and it works with my iPod 4th gen.  I've gone through the troubleshooting steps as suggested, but still -- nothing.  Now, what??

iTunes will not recognize my Nano 6th gen. as a device.  It has been recognized  in the past and iTunes does recognize my Nano 4th gen.  The device connects to the Mac and charges allright.  All of the functions on the Nano work but want to modify my music, I'm tired of the same songs etc.

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.

  • Why won't my computer recognize that I am plugging in my ipod? itunes will not recognize it either

I keep plugging my ipod into the computer and it will not recognize that anything id plugged in. Also, itunes will not recognize that it is plugged in either. It is a 2nd generation ipod

I'm having the exact same problem with my iPod Nano 2nd Gen.  Neither the new MacBook Pro nor the 1 year old Mac Pro will recognize it.  I authorized both computers but the Nano doesn't show up on either.  Strange because I have the iPod Classic (from 2000) and it works fine.

  • HT1459 Serial number is faded and too small to read. Itunes will not recognize my IPod Classic. How can I delete the current iPod software and reinstall it to see if this would solve the problem?

I recently upgraded my Itunes softeware, now itunes will not recognize my IPod Classic. If I delete the current IPod software and reinstall it, would this solve the problem, and if so, I'll need step by step instruction.

    Yep.
