ITunes will not recognize my iPod Touch 4 so I am not able to restore

I am trying to restore my iPod Touch 4th Generation so I can get rid of the jailbreak but whenever I plug in my device, the computer recognizes it but not iTunes. I have managed to get it to recognize it a few times which is when I try to restore it, and I'll get to the point where it says "preparing for restore" or something to that effect, but it will stay like that so I cannot restore and get rid of my jailbreak. I know this may sound confusing but I can't think of another way to explain it and I really need help.

Jailbreaking can have its unintended consequences. It is against the terms of use of the Apple forum to discuss/help with jailbreaking or or jailbroken devices.

I'm using a Mac desktop and it/my itunes will not recognize my ipod touch. I have resent my ipod and have also done all the suggested things on the apple website and still it is not being recognized, I do not know what else I can do. My macbook will recognize my ipod touch but I don't want to sync it to that itunes since it is already out of date, I want to sync it to my desktop mac where I already have the latest version of itunes, and all the music I want to sync onto my ipod touch. What can I do?

  • ITunes will not recognize my Ipod touch.

iTunes will not recognize my Ipod touch.  It attempts to perform a recovery, but must restore first.  but the restore fails, gives my 1604 code.  I have switched cords, USB ports all with no success.  I have a second touch (an older generation), a 160 GB Ipod & a shuffle that all work fine.  Not sure where to go.  One place said that I should reinstall iTunes, but wasn't sure if I would lost my library and apps.  Pleas advise.  Thanks.

Windows 7 home premium, 64 bit, itunes 10.7.0.21, ipod 5th gen ios 8.3. I know I am not running the latest version of itunes for the

lastest version of itunes. That message would come up everytime I was charging said ipod with itunes open. I just updated to iso 8.3
and now I don't get that message anymore when I have itunes open.I tried turning off ipod/computer/restarting, nothing. I tried going
to administrator/services/apple moble device and stop/start service nothing. Device manager shows the drivers are installed.

    hi sally,
see if this user tip by Yorkwill helps:
+In the end what works is to just force the drivers on what windows thinks is a camera, i.e. to ‘update’ the device to use the correct driver. There are some hints on how to do this already listed on this forum, but I’ll try to give some more detailed information:+
+1. First off you need to have iTunes installed and the ipod touch plugged in+
+and recognized as ‘something’ e.g. digital camera (it shouldn’t really+
+matter what it’s recognized as, but it needs to be found by windows).+
+2. Search for usbaapl in the C:\WINDOWS system folder:+
+o open windows explorer (e.g. Right-click Start and then click ‘explore’)+
+o right-click the WINDOWS folder and select ‘Search’).+
+o type in usbaapl and hit Search – try to ignore the dog!+
+You should find the driver info in a sub folder of+
    +C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE e.g. C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B+
+Remember that location (either leave the search box open or copy the folder+
    +name into note pad – you’ll need it later)+
    +If you don’t find usbaapl.sys, usbaapl.inf etc. then your drivers have not+
+been installed with the iTunes install and you’ll have to reinstall iTunes.+
    +3. Locate the ipod-camera device:+
+o Open the device manager, e.g. using Start > Control Panel >+
    +Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager+
+o Look for a device called ‘ipod’ - if your ipod shows up as+
+‘digital camera’ it will be under something like ‘imaging devices’.+
    +4. Update the driver:+
+o Right click the ‘ipod-camera’ in device manager and click on+
+‘Update Driver’ – the Hardware Update Wizard will open.+
+o Check the ‘Install from a list or specific location’ then click ‘Next’+
+o Check ‘Search for the best driver in these locations’. Un-check+
+‘Search removable media’ and check ‘Include this location in the search’.+
+In the text box below type (or better copy and paste) the folder+
+containing the ipod driver information found in step 1 (in the example+
    +above it was C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B), +
    +then click Next.+
+You should now see something like ‘Apple ipod device driver’ or so. Continue+
+installing that device. Once the driver has been installed the ipod will come+
+to life and iTunes (if you have it open) will show it.+

  • Why ITunes do not recognize my iPod Touch

    Hi everybody!
I have an IPod Touch and for some weeks, I have big problems with ITunes I can not solve.  Let me explain:
Initially, it worked fine.  Then one day, decided that ITunes does not recognize my IPod Touch, more precisely it do not read more.
When I plug my IPod Touch, ITunes tries to read it and then a message appears saying: «ITunes can not read the contents of the IPod xxxx».  Then they told me to restore my IPod to restore the original settings, I tried but it did not work either because after a while a message appears telling me that my internet connection failed while yet it works!!?!!
Then I tried to solve the problem in the tab «Help» ITunes under «establish a diagnosis» and then the test tells me that there is no IPod detected while my IPod is plugged and recognized in Windows Vista.  It tells me: «ITunes could not connect to the IPod xxxx because the record is missing the match.» What does that mean??
I also tried everything in the Apple support and nothing worked.  My IPod ans ITunes are up to date.  I even uninstalled ITunes and any Apple product for the reinstalled everything but it still does not work.
    Does anyone can help me??
I confess that I am discouraged and frustrated.
    Thank you in advance!
    Zazzz

    Merci d'avance!

  • Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes... getting beyond P/Oed!!!

Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.
    Evie

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

Just let the battery drain until the screen shuts off. When you charge it back up it should boot up normally.
