ITunes will not work - QT fails to initialize

Like many others here, I've had problems ever since downloading itunes 5. When I try to launch iTunes, I get an error stating "QT failed to initialize. Error# -2095. Please make sure QT is properly installed."
I've tried removing QT using add/remove programs (I thought I would remove it and start with a new download), but when its gets to the end of the removal process, I get "QT failed to initialize. Error# 63441. Please make sure QT is properly installed" then "Error 1402.Could not open Key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc\QuickTime\installed File Types\3g2,3gp2. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key."
I've read thru a number of the posts and tried several of the fixes but nothing seems to work. I cannot launch iTunes because QT doesn't work, but I can't launch QT to try to fix the problem.
Any ideas?

okay ... some of the kinkier errors i've seen lately have seemed to be associated with Windows Installer problems ... so let's try giving the first 5 methods on this document a shot:

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

I get the itunes has encounterd a problem and needs to close, sorry for the inconvenience error, no specific error number. I do not have QT installed,
not having QT installed is what will be causing your itunes error message at the moment. let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1 install.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

Ive got the same problem, just got my iphone unlocked, and they told me to sync it to itunes to get it permently unlocked, well everytime i plug my iphone in it says; it wont work as it needs up dating to 10.6.3, which i have already updated, but still doesnt work, so how can i get my phone unlocked?

Thanks. I have been using iTunes since its inception and have never had a problem...I'm using the latest version. The progress bar is the bar that moves when you're playing a song..it just won't start when I double click on a song,..have tried quitting, rebooting etc but nothing works. You may need to put the iPod into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset the iPod and re-sync its content.

When uninstalling iTunes on your windows computer, there is a specific way it must be done in order to completely uninstall all components of the software. Ensure you follow the article for your correct OS.

ITunes will not work on Fresh INstall of Vista x64 SP1

I have a strange issue. I have a Windows Vista x64 with SP1 (Yes the DVD is a production DVD from Microsoft not a slip stream copy.) and I wanted to do a fresh install of Vista with SP1. Reinstalled OS and everything is running great but iTunes. When I start iTunes I get this error message about "mssip32.dll" being damaged or corrupt please reinstall the app. So I looked around good old Google and apple.com. I found several fixes about re-registering a set of dll files. So did them all, no change. Reinstalled Vista from scratch again, no change. So for the heck of it I reinstalled Vista with no SP1 installed and then applied SP1 and it works fine. I reinstalled Vista with SP1 and have been running it for over a week and everything on the system is tested and solid as a rock with no issues. The only program that will not work is iTunes. I have also tried all the way back to version 7.4 and no luck.
Any ideas on this?

My friend had his ipod connected to my computer to charge. Conneceted through USB on a Dell/ Windows 2000 / system. He disconnected the ipod without properly ejecting it - Now, when i connect my ipod, iTunes will not recognize it- iTunes does not open- screen just reads do not disconnect. When i manually open itunes with the ipod attached, it freezes. I have re-installed iTunes, rebooted the ipod, nothing works. Recommendations? Have scowered this site for answers, tried just about everything, nothing has worked. Your help is greatly appreciated!
