Itunes windows 2000 wont install

hi,
i am trying to install itunes on one of my older computers which has win 2k. when i start the installation i get this: "the windows installer service could not be accessed. this can occur if you are running in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. contact your support personal for assistance."
win2000 sp4, windows installer 3.1 v2., i just upgraded it from windows ME (it is a little slow for win xp)

Which version of iTunes are you trying to install? Windows 2000 is no longer supported, 7.3.2 is the last version that will work with Windows 2000: iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000

  • ITunes 9.2 wont install fully, DVD driver not Windows compatible?

I have tried to install the 9.2 version of iTunes several times but everytime it ends up with an incomplete installment. I keep getting an error message telling me the digital signature for the CD/DVD driver isn't designed for Windows and wont install. The rest installs fine but when I open iTunes I get told the software hasn't installed properly and wont work if I want to import or burn DVDs.
I'm not sure if this is related to the installation problems but when I try and activate my iPhone (4g) the iTunes doesn't recognize the phone. It doesn't show up at all.
Anyone have any idea what's going on?

I'm not sure if this is related to the installation problems but when I try and activate my iPhone (4g) the iTunes doesn't recognize the phone. It doesn't show up at all.
It could be related. A snarl-up in device filters in the registry can cause issues with both optical drives and USB connections (for example).
My suspicion here is that you've got damaged GEAR drivers for iTunes, and they are interfering with your attempts to install iTunes.
Perhaps try a manual uninstall of ther GEAR drivers (quit iTunes first):
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=DRIVERS:Windows_-_Updating%2C_removing%2C_64_bit_versions%2Cetc
... and then try reinstalling iTunes. Does the reinstall go through any better?

  • Itunes 10.4 wont install

Itunes 10.4 wont install. The installer goes through the motions and then has a fatal error. Have re-downloaded it three times and still not working. Have seen this issue raised on non apple forums, but not with any decent fixes (other than go to to a genius bar) ..... I would like an 'official' apple fix for the problem.

That's why we didn't buy iPods as media players.
If we knew more about your computer hardware we could make recommendations.  It's either return the iPods or upgrade your operating system to at least Leopard so you can run iTunes 10.
To get more information about your computer, go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number.

Both the error 7 and the error 2 suggest that there's some damage to your Apple Application Support. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different apple programs are stashed.)

  • 9iFS R2 on Windows 2000 repeated install failure - help !!

    Hi All,
here is a desperate plea for help with 9iFS R2 on Windows 2000, service pack 2, the story so far ....
    1) clean install of windows 2000 with service pack 2, network configured and working.
    2) install Oracle 9i R2 database and configure tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora as per the oracle by example documents for R2
    3) reboot machine and all service come up fine
    4) install Oracle 9i R2 Application Service with option A to just install web server and cache stuff. This is installed in its own oracle home, all seems fine, reboot the machine.
    5) all the services come up fine ( so far so good eh !! )
    6) follow the pre-installation for 9iFS R2 ( as per the solaris install notes as i can't find any windows specific ones ). This includes the creation of a tnsnames.ora file in 9iashome\9ifs\network\admin, checking of the configuration required for 9iFS, all seems fine. Reboot the machine and all services come up fine.
    7) start the 9iFS install, this is installed into the 9ias home as per the instruction. Install proceeds, enter config information, various connection tests are performed ok, and then we get to the 'configuring oracle 9iFS' screen which has a whole load of tasks which the installer then works its way through. When it gets to the 'executing setup scripts' option ( second from bottom ) it immediately throws a java exception, about 'file access denied', 'unable to create ifs directory' with no error code or anything else. The configuration screen then exits, and says installation complete successfully ! As you can imagine it hasnt, and nothing is configured. I have repeated this 4 full times now, reading the oracle install docs very carefully. Same thing every time. However, and this is the strange part. If at that point, I uninsall 9iFS using the oracle installer, and then try and reinstall 9iFS again, when it gets to the section of where to create the schema, and i tell it the same IFSSYS as the one created previously, it will then warn me its going to delete it and create a new one with the same name. I select 'yes' create it again and this time the install completes with no errors ! Hurray you think, ahhhh BUT....
    8) reboot the machine, start up the browser to point at the local machine port 1810, and log in successfully. Then select the node on port 15x41 ( sorry cant quite remember port number ) as per the post installation docs, and told to 'launch it'. This i do, providing the administration account user name and password which has been used to install everything so far. Explorer sits for about 60 seconds then returns to the screen with the portal node still down. I have tried starting the node and domain to no avail, both fail to start with no reason for the failure and nothing in the 9iFS\logs to explain whats failing - sigh.
    OK the questions
    1) why do i initially get this file access denied problem so failing the install - is this a known windows problem ?
    2) When i do get the install to complete by reinstall 9iFS and rebuilding the schema can I not then start the node or domain ?
In effect I am installing all these on a single machine with 1 Gig of memory for evaluation and prototyping as a possible Document Management System which we can build custom solutions upon. With being unable to install it at all we are at a total loss. Can some one save my sanity and remaining hair and offer some help/suggestions as to why this is not working ?
    best regards
    Tom

    Thomas,
thanks for your hints, it helped me quite well getting iFS installed on my machine! But when I try to start iFS from the administration GUI I do have excactly the same problem like you:
start up the browser to point at the local machine port 1810,
and log in successfully. Then select the node on port 15x41
as per the post installation docs, and told to 'launch it'.
This i do, providing the administration account user name and
password which has been used to install everything so far.
Explorer sits for about 60 seconds then returns to the screen
with the portal node still down. I have tried starting the
node and domain to no avail, both fail to start with no reason
for the failure and nothing in the 9iFS\logs to explain whats
failing - sigh.At first my thought was iAS might have problems with special characters in the admin's name or password (due to security guidelines we had to change the admin's name). But also with alphanumeric name and password it doesn't work.
Furthermore, also starting iFS using the BATch files doesn't work always. The services seem to start up correctly, but I'm not able to connect via share, FTP, HTTP or anything.
It got worse when I accidently called "ifsundeployear.bat": after that I no longer was able to redeploy the iFS's EAR, I only get error messages complaining inconsistency between local config files and the repository. Logfiles didn't help at all. So at the moment I'm reinstalling everything once more, sigh.
Did ANYONE get iFS started the way it's supposed to be under Windows 2000?

  • Itunes 64 bit wont install on my Dell XPS due to Windows Installer problems. Can somebody help me out with this?

I have Windows 7 home premium, running on a Dell XPS 15, with 64 bit OS, and when i went to install itunes for my new phone, it would almost install, but then say that it couldn't install due to issues with windows Installer. has anybody had this happen to them? can anybody help me out with this?

    Many thanks.
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".
Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

  • Windows Vista wont install Ipod drivers

    OK I NEED HELP....
I have Windows Vista and I am trying to install my iPod Nano, but everytime I plug my iPod in it ask me to insert the CD that came with it. As I don't have a CD I just click to install drivers automatically. Than it gives me an error saying 'unable to install drivers'. The divers do show up in the device manger under- other devices but there is a little warning sign next to it. So I right click on it and update driver, which it then tells me that it can't update driver. I have the latest version on iTunes and Quicktime, and I have also done a restore on my pc. Spoken to Apple 4 times!!! got no where with them. My iPod works fine on Windows XP machine, but not my Windows Vista. Has anyone else had any troubles with Vista??

I'm not sure my problem with Vista is the same. New computer with Vista, and I'm trying to transfer my library from old computer to new one. I loaded latest version of iTunes. When I put in my apple ID, my acct balance and items in my shopping cart appeared. When I connect my iPod, it is recognized.
I found an article that gave two options for copying library to new computer. One was to use backup discs to RESTORE, and the other was to use the iPod as a hard drive. It says that it will ask if I want to restore when I insert backup disc, but it does not ask. I tried Import, but tht didn't work either. When I connect my iPod, it doesn't copy the contents from there either. It only gives me the option of erasing iPod and loading what is on new library (which is only about 12 songs). I get a msg that I am synced to another library and can only be synced to one. I still got that msg after I deauthorized the old one.
Any suggestions on how to load music onto new library?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Windows 7 wont install ('No Bootable Drive')

This is EXACTLY what I've done:
I've formatted and reformatted and partioned and wiped and formatted my hard drive innumerable times over the years. I have a Macbook Pro 4,1 (15-inch Early 2008).
When I went to install Lion, I wanted a clean install, so I installed OS X 10.6 via USB with my iPod, then immediately upgraded to lion. When I did the 10.6 install, I first completely erased the entire internal HD.
In Lion, I then opened the Bootcamp Assistant, and partitioned my drive. I have attemped to install windows in the following ways:
Via USB, using my iPod and my thumb drive. After holding option at startup, neither of these have appeared as bootable disks. I have used 4 different discs at this point, from friends and neighbors, but none of them appear as bootable using USB devices.
I then asked a friend to lend me his external DVD drive. I then tested each of the installs using the optical drive, and all of them returned the same error:
"No Bootable Device - Insert boot disk and press any key"
I know at least one install installed fine in VMware, and they've all been installed on different computers sucessfully before. The PC I've been using was willing to boot up from every disk. My disks are 64 btw, but I have a 4,1 so I think I should be fine.
Essentially, my question is am I missing any firmware or drivers, or why do I get a DOS prompt, presumably loaded from the disk drive telling me that drive is not a boot disk. Why wont my computer (just completely wiped with 10.6.3 retail + Lion) recognize any legitimate windows CDs, saying they are not bootable?
Like I said, I'm using an external disk drive, as my MBPs internal optical drive refuses to read and spits out most DVDs (it has for a long while, CDs work).
I have tried everything I know of, please provide suggestions.
    Thanks

    Hello,
There is a "boot camp" forum (you have posted in the wrong forum) you might get a better answer there and there is a KB that answers all your boot camp questions...
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
QUOTE: "my MBPs internal optical drive refuses to read and spits out most DVDs"
Have you tried putting the disk in and shutting down the MBP(before it tosses it out), then restart and load from the DVD drive (hold "C") ?
Also, you don't need to flip out on Kappy, We are all mac users trying to help each other out... we are not Apple...
What he means is that depending on your model there are some external drives which do not work with macs. So, you should make sure the drive you use is mac compatible

I am running WINDOWS XP and I get the same message as ITunes 10.6.1. installs. "A program required for this install to complete could not be run. contact your support personnel or package vendor."  The installation then terminates itself.
The message comes up while installing my current edition ITunes 10.3 with QuickTime, but the program seems to ignore this message and completes the installation.
What program is missing so that ITunes can be installed without any problems?

  • Itunes and Quicktime wont install

When I tried to update my iTunes and Quicktime recently, it succesfully downloaded, began installing, and once the progress hit Quicktime, and error showed "an older version of quicktime cannot be removed." Now the issue is, that before this happened, the update had already removed the older version of iTunes. However, it was unable to install the newest version due to this quicktime issue. So here I sit. Help?
    -D

once the progress hit Quicktime, and error showed "an older version of quicktime cannot be removed."
Most probably that's an issue with the installation database in the QuickTime.msi file.
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we need to hunt down a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes 9.2 again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Itunes exe file wont install

    Hi,
Two days ago I formatted my pc (Windows 7 Professional 32bit) & have been going through the process of downloading & installing various programmes online. I've installed half a dozen or so & have got to iTunes. Visited apple.com to download the latest version, but everytime I double click, or 'run as adminastrator, nothing happens..?
Restarted PC, turned off firewall & done Windows update, numerous times now & still nothing.
I finally had the bright idea of downloading Quicktimeinstaller, which was no problem, this then presented me with the option to download iTunes. This I did but the file gets half way through the download & I get "iTunes has an invalid signature. It will not be installed"
I'm pulling my hair out now, can anyone help? I have no previous iTunes installed as hard drive was wiped & every other program I've downloaded has istalled 1st time.
    Many thanks

OK after hours of my time & a significant loss of hair, I've managed to download it...!!!!
All I did was went to:
    http://http://www.dkszone.net/itunes-10-1-download-supports-ios-4-2-airplay
and downloaded iTunes 10.1 (older version) this came down as the normal setup.exe file and installed to my PC, as soon as you open and run this version of iTunes it will inform you of an updated version 10.6. Just hit the install and go...
    IT WAS THAT SIMPLE
I hope this will help others NOT to waste precious time, as I did..!
