if it works in media player, it's probably the wrong format for iTunes (.avi won't work!). i dont know if they plan to fix this or not, but you can find software to covert the file types.

How can I trasfer my Windows Media Player Files to my Ipod

    Open itunes.
First go to the edit menu, select preferences, click the advanced tab, and select importing. For best song capacity on the ipod, make sure that the encoder is set to "Import using AAC encoder", and "High quality 128 kbps". Hit OK.
Then go to file menu, then go to "add file to library" or if its a whole folder "add folder to library".
Select the song or songs you want to add, then hit open. A box will come up saying "one or more of the files you are adding are wma files",click ok and itunes will convert them into aac format (this could take a while if you have a number of songs). It should be noted that this will only work with unprotected WMA files, not ones bought off of the windows media store or imported to windows media with protection.
Once the music is in your ipod library there are a few ways to get it onto the ipod. Here are two.
    Manual
Connect the ipod, go to the edit menu then preferences and select "manually update songs and playlists" Then , from the itunes library, highlight all the songs you want on your ipod by holding the shift key and clicking on the last song. Right click and go to copy. Click on your ipod at the left hand side of itunes, then go to the edit menu and paste the songs into the ipod.
    Automatic
This is the default mode on ipods. For automatic mode, connect the ipod, go to the edit menu, then preferences, and tick "automatically update all songs and playlists" and also tick "update checked songs only". Once you have added song to your library, simply untick the boxes of the songs that you do not want to be transferred onto your ipod, then itunes will automatically update only the songs that you have ticked.
Sorry its a bit long, but hopefully it helps. Post back if you have any problems

  • After migrating to a retina macbook with mountain lion I can not play windows media player files with flip4mac anymore

After migrating to a retina macbook with mountain lion I can not play windows media player files anymore. I use flip4mac pro 3.0 and quicktime 7.6.6.
The message I receive is: De bewerking kan niet worden voltooid. (OSStatus fout -50). I also have problems with zip files that can not be saved on the desktop anymore while unzipping.

I actually installed Quicktime pro and Flip4Mac Pro again after I bought the Retina Macbook. Today I did it again but still get the same OSStatus error -50. I guess there is some old file that has to be removed. Flip4Mac comes with an uninstaller. Quicktime does not.
I read that his could be something with security that is why I mention the problem with the zip files as well.

  • Windows Media Player file format invalid

I'm running Mac OS 10.3.9 and the latest Windows Media Player 9.0.0. Sometimes when I try to open Windows Media Player files (.asx) people send me I get "Cannot play back the file. The file format is invalid." How can I get these files to play?
Or is there another Mac application that will play these file (.asx) file formats?
    Thanks.

  • How do I import music from itunes, windows media player or my music onto a ipod?

I have just got Now 83 on cd and want to download it onto my iPod touch (4th gen ios 6.1), I have iTunes and have made a playlist with the songs on, I have ripped the files onto windows media player and  i've got the songs in my music folder. What do I do now? I've tried copying the playlist and file but it doesn't work so... (10 points if good answer)

So literally all I need to do is sync my current iTunes library on my iPod to the computer I'm using now as I have synced my other songs onto another computer?
If this is yes, you will get 10 points.
    Don't lie.
    No - exactly the opposite.
You cannot sync the music on the iPod, from the iPod to iTunes.
    You have a choice:
Follow lllaass's tip, mentioned in his post of 22:35 this evening. Not my preferred method, because I believe it becomes difficult to manage with a large complicated Library and an absolute nightmare if you ever need to Restore your iPod. Not to mention moving everything to a new iPod, eventually. But don't let me stop you.
Take my advice. Put all your music etc. into one Library, using an external drive to move songs from other computers to the one computer and iTunes Library you intend to use. That way, you have one Library to work with (which you should then regularly back up onto the external drive, so that if your computer's drive fails, you can restore your Library from the most recent back up). Play counts, Playlists etc. etc. are all there, in one place. Less likely to lose some content, compared to having stuff all over the place.
    Assume that I am lying...
    Huh? What's that all about? I'm trying to help you. I have quite a few points to my name, you can see for yourself. Those points are awarded by people who feel that I've helped them, I don't put them there. You will find that I can be very caustic in some of my posts, but that's with people who deliberately come here to cause trouble. Unfortunately, there are many of them. Their posts usually start with;
    I hate Apple
    I don't like iTunes
    I bought an iPod
they have a user name such as "Fred Linux 985"
    ...and they have no points
    (I have nothing against Linux).

  • Itunes & Windows Media Player

Does anyone know if I can play the music I have on my itunes in Windows Media Player? Or how to change the file format successfully so it will play in WMP. I've just bought a new phone & want to put some of my music onto my phone, but don't know how to.

    This microsoft link should help:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992
WMP does not convert audio files, though the Windows Media Encoder found here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx
will work-at least with WAV files. Of course iTunes has been able to convert files to wav for quite awhile.
    From this document:
    https://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/codecs/comparison.aspx
you can see that Microsoft would prefer WMP users use WMA Pro as an alternative to AAC files.

  • Windows media player / file conversion help

I've got a real old school version of Windows media player on my other computer which has about 1300 songs on it that i don't even still have all the old cds to. I tried to process those songs onto my ipod and it says they are "protected wma files" is there anything I can buy program wise that can convert those files to something compatible with the ipod and itunes? I heard something about Nero but I've never tried that out. I was just wondering if anyone else had ran into this problem thanks.

  • Not able to open Windows Media Player files with Quicktime Pro

    Hi,
I have recently downloaded a couple of videos that I am planning to use in FCP. The file extension of the downloaded videos is .asf and I am able to play them with Windows Media Player. However, to use them in FCP I have to convert them into Quicktime format. I have Quicktime Pro version 7.0.4 and I was told that I should be able to open the files in Quicktime therefore automatically converting them into quicktime files. It's not working and I am completely out of options and ideas.
Please help if you ever had that problem.
    Thanks in advance

As I understand it M$ is providing additional distribution as a sort of "seal of approval."
Don't forget WMV/WMA is a proprietary codec from M$ and involves licensing. In that sense they're providing resources. Apparently the Flip4Mac folks are actually building it themselves though.
Think of it as being in the construction business and you're required to buy the lumber from only one source but you still have to build the house yourself.
I've just got done downloading the newer version and
    I hope for improvements.
It looks like M$ is giving some resources to the
flip4mac creators. Maybe a M$ "plant" all along?

  • Windows media player files will not play. I downloaded the plug in but does not show up under plugins. Why won't it load?

Whenever I try to play a wmv file through firefox it will not load. It was not a problem a few weeks ago. Under plugins it is saying I do not have windows media player. So I tried downloading it using the troubleshooting directions from firefox. But it still will not show up under plugins. Any help would be much appreciated.

'''np-mswmp''' in your Installed Plugins listing ''(in '''More system details''' to the right of your posting)'' is the Windows Media Player plugin for Firefox.

  • Windows Media Player file (mpeg-2) to imovie

    hi
i have this sony camcoreder that has no fire wire port
i know that it will not work direct with imovie
does any one know if i can take them off my windows xp as a mpeg-2 it works in windows media player but not quickk time
onto a memery stick then onto a mac

What sort of camera do you have, why do you think it won't work with imovie.
If indeed you can't import straight to your mac and put the mpeg2 file onto a USB stick you can convert it for imovie using something like mpeg streamclip.

  • Safari no longer runs windows media player files

so I am running safari 2.0.4 (419.3) and OSX 10.4.8 and Windows Media Player 9.0.0 (3307)
and I am going through the www.amazon.com pages to purchase a few CDs.
I find that when I click the Window Media audio sample link - Windows Media Player does open and claims the error "Windows media Player" cannot play this file because the Player does not support this file format."
Anybody know a work around to this issue.
I reinstalled WMP but still the problem persists.
    Cheers,

    Hi Noah-
Windows Media Player will not play natively on an Intel Machine. The alternative is to install the free Flip4Mac. After installation, this plug-in includes its own preference panel in your System Preferences.
Give it a try and post back.

    THANKS!

I will be burning the file to a DVD so our different branches can watch them on a tv or laptop.
OK, this brings up a few more questions. With regards to the playing on a TV set, will this disc be placed into a DVD set-top player? If so, you want to create a DVD-Video. This is something that PrE can do. It can do light authoring, if necessary, by adding navigational Menus, or can burn an Auto Play DVD-Video. You will NOT use an Export/Share to .WMV for this. Some devices, like maybe Playstations, can possibly work from a .WMV, but set-top players cannot.
Next, a DVD-Data, with the .WMV can be played on a computer, but a DVD-Video can also, and one would just need a DVD software player progarm.
The DVD-Data with the .WMV would work for the computers only, and the DVD-Video would work with both, so long as the computers have a DVD software player.
I have a large screen proejctor at my site so the end reuslt will be about 3x4 feet.
If you are going to feed the projector from a computer, say a laptop, I'd Export/Share to a DV-AVI file and just feed that to the projector. The quality will be highest. In playing from a computer, you could use a DVD-Data disk, but would be better to play from the computer's HDD, rather than from a DVD-Data disc in a DVD drive, as the speed of data transfer will be better. One consideration for playing from a computer to a projector is whether you'll do it from the computer that you are editing on, or whether you'll need to transport the AV material to another location. If you will transport, then there are two considerations: a DVD-Data disc can transport the more highly compressed .WMV, though total size will need to be considered. The DV-AVI file will still give the best results, but the file will be larger. I'd think about transporting on an external HDD and hooking that up to the remote computer. Now, if the feed is from a DVD set-top player, you're going to want the DVD-Video, just as above.
I know that is a lot of material to consider, but I'd hate for you to distribute DVD-Data discs. with .WMV's and get the call that no one can play it on the conference room's DVD player, hooked up to the TV. Or, have you arrive at the location of the projector, only to find that you have either the wrong type of media, or have not gotten the best possible results. Your Project might need, or at least benefit from different distribution media for different uses.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
