ITunes wipes library after closing?

I'm having a really annoying problem...I have an iPod Touch 4th Gen and I've just installed iTunes on my new laptop. I imported my music to my new laptop via Home Share, but after closing iTunes and re-opening again all my music was gone? So I added music from my new laptop to iTunes, closed it again and opened it and it was gone again. It takes me absolute ages to re-add all the music and it's really annoying that iTunes wipes my entire library and basically resets itself everytime I close it. Help? I'm using Windows 7 and the latest version of iTunes. How can I make the songs stay in the library even after I close iTunes?

OK so at some point you got the "iTunes has experienced an error and needs to close. Do you want to send the error to Microsoft?" error. follow the instructions at the link below to repair iTunes and uninstall quicktime. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302372,
If this does not work, your library may have becomed corruppt or you may have to do the stand alone install of quicktime.
Just post back and tell us if this fixes your problem or not

WOW! Thanks to all who directed me to Sony for this issue. I have downloaded the update http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2715 (which by the way would not run for the first few times stating it was an update for Vista even though I chose the Windows 7 OS and the page showed was for 7.) I have rebooted about 4 times so far and everything is still in iTunes. Oh thank you all.... BTW I had my computer in with the Sony Backstage guys for a tune up a few months ago and I explained this issue to them. They had no idea and recommended I go over to the Apple store in the Mall. I would think they should be versed on various software related issues which can create trouble for users of their products just as they are versed in the nuts and bolts of how to save this, and move that, and make backup disks, and read my email. : ) Keeping my fingers crossed.

  • Itunes not opening after closing

I installed iTunes 6 and after the installing and agreements and all that stuff, it was open. I was glad cuz I had to go through some steps first to get it to even show up. Everyone is having problems with this and personally it's starting to **** me off. So after getting it open FINALLY, I closed it cuz the music store was not working, it just showed that little bar but never went to the store. So now that I've closed it, it won't open again. What's wrong with it now?

  • ITunes reopens itself after closing

    Greetings,
Since version 5 I and many others whom I know cannot close iTunes. It closes then immediately re-opens itself. Even using Task Manager to close it, it simply re-opens itself again, and in the end the only way to close iTunes is to re-boot the computer.
I have sent Apple about 50 emails with regard to this problem, as have many other people I know, but none of us has ever received a reply.
I believe this is a common problem.
I have managed to ascertain that the first opening of iTunes uses the path C:\Programs\iTunes, but that all automatic re-openings thereafter carry a suffix: C:\Programs\iTunes\ -embedding.
I have disabled all my security software and the problem persists.
Please does anybody know how to resolve this problem?
    Thank you,
    nippauls

    PROBLEM RESOLVED!
Here is what I did and it has fixed the issue of iTunes continually re-opening itself after closing with reference to DCOM and embedding.
I disabled DrWatson by editing the following registry key from 1 to 0:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug = 0
I disabled DCOM by editing the following registry key from Y to N:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OLE\EnableDCOM = N
    Then I restarted the computer.
Then, using Control Panel, I removed iTunes and restarted.
Then I went to C:\Programs and deleted EVERY folder relating to iTunes and iPod. If a folder refuses to be deleted, open Task Manager and terminate the relevant iPod process then it will be possible to delete the folder.
I then cleared my Prefetch folder, temp folder, and then recycle bin.
I restarted the computer, and re-installed iTunes.
    PROBLEM RESOLVED
Hope this helps other users with similar problems.

  • ITunes will intermittently fail to retain my library after closing.

I am running Windows 7 and keep all my music on an external HD. After adding the folder of music and videos and books and applications and shut down the program ad re-starting, iTunes acts like its the first time its been run on my system. It retains absolutely nothing. I restarted once and the first time it did retain, yet the second time I re-started it after cleaning up a boatload of duplicates it reverted right back to being the first time I opened the program with no recollection of any of my files imported from last time which was just about 2 hours ago. I exported the library this time and now am re-adding that folder to the application which is taking quite a long time being I have 14k+ songs and numerous videos to import yet again. This has been happening off and on for about 7 months now and it is quite frustrating. If by any chance I happen to try to sync my iPad or iPod with iTunes it thinks I am a new user again even though the application still has the last sync listed in the preferences menu. I am at the end of my rope here and feel that this program has now left me with two unusable devices that I paid quite a bit of $ for. Please Apple, offer some relief! I have uninstalled and reinstalled all apple applications as one support rep instructed me to do. That was about 5 installations ago in the last 2 months. I have read through so many of these topics and see no answer to this issue.

  • I can't add folders to my itunes (v10) library after reinstall.

So I got hit with the "new Library" error after having Itunes 11 for a week or so. After this awful mishap, I uninstalled 11, and got 10 back because I had never had any problems with it. After reading countless forums on how to import all my music that was in my library before everything (going to 'Previous Itunes Library, etc"), only some folders(albums) imported. (Not anywhere near all my folders of music I had) Now most of my folders will NOT add to my library by going to 'Add Folders to Library", and you can only add them by individual files/songs by going to "Add File By Library." It would take me years to do all of this with all of my music. PLEASE help.

keep all of my music in a music folder, and when I want to put them onto my iPod, I just drag them into my iTunes library (or go to File > Add File to Library).
    Why?
    Just leave them in iTunes.

  • ITunes relaunches itself after closing (Windows 7)

Yesterday was all OK, but today after I closed iTunes is restarted itself. Nothing was changed with the system since yesterday. I've found a couple of topics with the same problem, but they're both about MacOS. I have this problem on Windows 7.

I'm going to ask the hosts to move this to the windows part of the iTunes part of this forum. YOu'll stand a better chance to get an answer there than you will here.

  • ITunes imports library after every restart creating a 'damaged' file

I have a MacBook Pro 17" running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and iTunes version 10.3.1.  I have upgraded to two WD 750 hard drives internally, and my music library is approximately 500GB.
Almost every other time I restart iTunes or my laptop, iTunes has to reload the library and tells me that it's created a Damaged library file with the recovered music.  Each time it does that 'library' contains all of my music, and each damaged library is exactly the same.  Is anybody else having this issue, or had this issue and found a solution?
I have tried re-installing my OS, re-installing iTunes, as well as running numerous checks on both hard drives.  Thank you!

While it's sporatic when nothing has changed in the library, it would appear that Everytime the library is added to, it will malfunction again in the same way...
I'm going to try RAIDing my hard-drives, re-installing it all, and seeing if that changes things, Here Goes!

  • ITunes re-opens after closing the application down.

Lately, after I click the 'x' to close down iTunes, my computer slows down a bit, and iTunes opens itself back up and is mostly black instead of the normal color and look. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Alright heres the thing: Gimme Some Tune has to be deactivated just before iTunes. Therefor I wrote a very short script but now I have to quit iTunes by activating this.
Here comes the source .... wait for it .......... code:
    tell application "GimmeSomeTune" to quit
    tell application "iTunes" to quit
Anything beyond that exceeds my AppleScript "knowledge". So maybe someone with a little bit more skill can pick up the idea and write a script that opens iTunes, waits for the "cmd+q" and then shuts GST right before iTunes? Would really appreciate it!

  • Itunes looses library after reboot

    Hello,
I have installed Itunes. Imported all my music into the library.
Once I reboot my computer and re-open itunes there is nothing in my library?
I have re-imported all my music over and over and over. Everytime I reboot the library is empty. All my music is fine and is on HD but Itunes library empty?
    Can anyone help.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what the problem is, but this may fix it:
Hold Shift as iTunes loads, you wikl be presented with a dialog asking if you want to create a new library or choose an existing one. You may need to create a new library, or find the library. It may then work without having to press Shift each time

  • Reconnecting itunes with library after fresf windows install

how do i reconnect itunes (that is installed on my new OS drive C:) to my old itunes library (installed on old media drive G:)?

Press and hold down shift as you launch iTunes, keep holding until this dialog appears.
Click Choose Library... and browse to the old library that you want to connect to. This would normally be found at \Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl or, \Documents and Settings\<User>\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
In some cases you may need to fix security permissions on the folder. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.

  • ITunes slows PC after closing

I use iTunes to sort and play my MP3's. Every time I close iTunes my computer slows down to a snails pace for about 2 minutes. I have monitored CPU and memory usage but nothing odd happens during those 2 minutes, and no major hard drive activity happens either. I have 2GB's of memory (DDR2) and a 3.2GHZ P4 CPU. I have 3 HDD's (60GB, 120GB, 200GB - all PATA). The MP3's are on the secondary master IDE (200GB). Can't figure out why it does it. Running XP Pro.

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. When I close iTunes on my Windows XP Pro, my computer slows down. I can see the process iTunes.exe still running in the task manager with the processing near to 99. Any answer about that problem?

  • ITunes pops up after closing

    Hey
I'm using the newest version of iTunes for Windows, and everytime I close it, it opens again. How do I fix that?

    Bump! help please

  • After closing iTunes 6 it's still hogging CPU

I had no problems installing the latest iTunes 6 and Quicktime. It all looked as if it was running OK.
However I noticed that each time I closed iTunes my PC (P4 2.4ghz/1024Mb RAM/XP Home SP2) was running extremely slow.
Using Task Manager, I looked at the CPU usage - YIKES - iTunes.exe was still there hogging between 50 to 99%. I'm having to kill this process manually to sort this.
Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas how to fix it, as it's a bit of a pain having to do this each time!!

I've about 1100 albums in my library - I wonder if it's doing some sort of maintenance process after closing - and because of the size of the library it's taking this amount of time?
hmmmm. i believe that itunes updates the itl file on close-down ... but it's a bit of a mystery why it would be making such a meal of it in your case.
starting to check through odd possibilities, now. does that PC have dual cores or processors? if so, perhaps check to see if you've got a variation of this issue (it hits imports as well, so i wouldn't be entirely suprised if it was also hitting some other library-related functions):
