ITunes with Airtunes via Airport

Dpes anyone know a workaround so that I can play iTunes through my airport speakers AND, at the same time, play the same stream through my computer speakers. Currently, the pulldown menu at the bottom of the iTunes window permits a choice (airport OR computer), but not both at the same time. I want to play through both at the same time. Any advise on this topic would be appreciated. Thank you. Dale

Hmm. I would have thought you would have been offered the AirPort Express update via Software Update. I think I got offered it as part of a general AirPort upgrade, but I'm not sure about that now.
You can always go to the Downloads page that's linked in the bar on the top of this page and peruse the offerings. Likely candidates for updates would be Bluetooth devices, Airport cards, Airport base stations, and the computers themselves if they're older. There are a couple of updates for G5s, but they're for the first models, I think.

Hello everyone!
I was overly excited to receive the airport express 802.11n Wi-Fi
and everything works wonderfully. But some trouble arose non the less:
The reason for the wireless AirPort was to allow projecting Videos via a Beamer on the wall
and have fantastic sound, even though the soundsystems are standing elsewhere.
But when opening itunes (it works with normal music just fine) and starting a purchased video there,
there is no way I can choose the external soundsystem to be used to generate the sound.
This drives me nuts! It would be really silly to not be able to use a soundtransmitter by apple
when watching a video by apple's itunes, wouldn't it? That makes no sense.
Please tell me there is a way to make it work....

Apple does offer an option that does both. It's called the Apple TV.

Apple TV2 with iMac via AirPort but without W-Lan?

I have my iMac connected to the internet with cable-LAN. iTunes is ready and the iMac has AirPort. I have no Wireless LAN. Will I be able to connect Apple TV 2 to my iMac via AirPort without W-LAN? (They couldn't tell me at my local Apple dealer...)

If your network doesn't have wifi, connect your devices by Ethernet, wifi is not a necessity and indeed Ethernet is always the best way to connect things on a network.
An ad hoc network created with your iMac cannot be used with the Apple TV.

Can't share internet with iPhone4 via Airport with MacBook Pro on Ethernet

I'm in Iraq being abused by a criminal ISP offering 256K (yes, kilobytes per second!) connectivity via a cat IV ethernet cable to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.9). I have a first-gen iPhone4 (16G, version 4.2.1), it will not connect to the internet via airport to my MacBook. I'm getting a good wi-fi symbol on my iPhone, the Airport is correctly finding my MacBook's network, and it properly demands/accepts my WEP password. But I cannot get mail, go on line or use any apps.
Under the DHCP tab on my MacBook's network on the iPhone's Settings/Wi-Fi page...I have a good IP Address and Subnet Mask. Previously I've also had numbers show up on the Router and DNS lines as well...but they are now blank. I have never had numbers on the Search Domains or Client ID lines.
Can anyone tell me what's missing to get my internet sharing working?

OK, on your iPhone you have four fields that need to completed for any type of WiFi networking to operate. The fields are (in order) the IP address of your device, the subnet mask for your network, the "router" IP address, and finally the DNS addresses.
I'm not sure what these numbers look like on an ad hoc network, but a typical router based network would look like:
Device IP: 192.168.1.x with x being between 2 and 255
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
"Router IP": 192.168.1.1
DNS: usually a pair of IP address separated by a comma. Sometimes this is supplied by the network you are conneccted to, other times you specify an address (like OpenDNS or Google's DNS service)
If your phone has an IP address of 169.x.x.x, it means that your ad hoc network is not supplying it with an IP address. Make sure that the DHCP box is checked (the ad hoc network will assign an IP address) or manually assign IP address.
To be honest with you, I'd go out and buy a basic N router (about $40 US), plug it in to your ethernet connection, and connect your devices to that. You get far better security as the router has a firewall and you can use WPA2-AES encryption on the wireless side - and it is easier to set up.

Sharing internet connection with Windows via Airport

I have an iMac Intel Core Duo connected to an ADSL modem via ethernet. I'd like to share my internet connection via Airport with a Windows laptop (which is running XP with SP2). I've read that this is possible and I've tried setting it up but the laptop isn't seeing the Airport network at all.
I've created a network with security off, from the Airport drop-down menu in the iMac menu bar, turned Internet Sharing on (Share from: ethernet - to computers using: Airport). I have Windows Sharing and Personal Web Sharing turned on, and my firewall is off. But the Airport network still doesn't show up on the laptop.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or at least point me in the right direction.

i am having the same problem. i have the mac connected but when i go to windows i can't get the page open that says to connect. when i run the mouse over the icons at the bottom of the page it shows the airport signal being excellent. but i just can't get to a page to enter the "key to connect". it is greyed out and shows that it is limited or not connectivity.

Connecting Itunes to reciever via Airport Express LAN

First off I've read so many articles on connecting that my head is spinning. I've got an older 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Imac. I've got two airport expresses, one brand new, the other a second gen I think, but let's forget about that. It's connected to a pair of powered speakers at the other end of our loft, but drops out constantly regardless of channels picked. Eventually I'll get an airport extreme, which is what I should have done in the first place. My Imac is close enough to my receiver (vintage B&O 5000). Can I just run a LAN cable from the Imac to airport express? Obviously I need the mic/optical jack for connecting the receiver via RCA. The second part of my question is will the airport express still work as a DAC connected this way? I just want to have my music connected to one real pair of speakers for now, and will start from scratch building a wireless network for the powered speakers once I get an airport extreme. Just...can't... stand... dropouts anymore!

ITunes with Airtunes Problems

I have a problem with iTunes/Airtunes,
I am using iTunes to access my music collection, which i consider fairly large ( approx 80Gb)
Every now and then itunes will ramdomly either skip a song half way through or it will not cross-fade its tunes. Even though the cross-fade feature is active.
I have tried reinstalling OSX and this made no difference, I have also tried resetting my airport settings ( as i play music through Airport Express) Although iTunes does this even when playing through my powerbooks speakers.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this problem is really annoying! I like iTunes and wouuld like to contunue using it but if it has bugs in it then will have fo find a new Music Player.

I have had the same experience. I am using itunes on windows xp. I have the Airport Express configured as a client and am using a Linksys as my base station.

Cant stream video sound from ITunes to stereo via Airport Express

I'm using a PC with wireless (Centrino 802.11g) with Itunes (Latest release 7.0.0.70) and for some reason the sound from Itunes video will not stream wirelessly to my stereo connected to my AirPort Express.
When the video is embedded in an Itunes playlist of MP3s, the sound will work fine through the AirPort Express with the MP3 tracks, but will toggle over to the PC speakers for the video.
Any ideas gratefully received?

Problems syncing with .mac via airport extreme

When I try to sync my calendar via .mac I get an error can't connect to .mac sync server. There does not appear to be a problem with idisk syncing.
When I use a hardwire connection I do not have a problem. I have no problem browsing or streaming itunes music using the express nor printing. It has been suggested that the signal being sent is not of sufficient "quality" for the .mac to accept the link.
Is this likely? Is it possible to alter the configuration of the airport to result in a stronger more stable link? I would be willing to sacrifice some speed for this reliability.

Yes. You just need to point iTunes on your Mac to the new location for its Media Folder on the AirPort Disk attached to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS).

ATV 3 doesn't play non iTunes 1080p video via Airport Router

Please advise what could be the problem. I was using a Zyxel nbg460 router and it was paying nice probably converted from MKV movies in 1080p, loading hem almost instantly and playing without a problem. But when I hooked up Airport Extreme 5-th gen, it stoped playing them. It buffers and buffers and nothing happens. Altough It plays 720p really nice. Help me please, because I bought 2 more Airport Express for extending wifi over my house, but it doesn't work.... Plugged back old router and it is all playing nice. Well, I have had my iPod for about 3 years, it is a 4th generation non-video 40 GB. One day it just stopped working, and now it does not play any songs. when I turn it on it makes this odd whirring sounds that computers make when they try really hard to do something. I cannot charge it, and it is not recognized by iTunes. Also when I turn it on, I get the apple.com/ipod/support (or whatever it is) screen. Needless to say, my warranty is expired, and so I cannot do anything for it except get a new battery, or buy a new one. Is there any way to fix this problem, or anyone out there who is experiencing the same thing?
I'm having the exact same problem with my wife's iPod. However it will play about 3 seconds of a song and go onto the next song.

Airtunes via Airport Express crashing MacBook

Very frequently when I'm playing music via AirTunes, my MacBook freezes (keyboard, mouse button, trackpad) but the music keeps playing just fine. The iTunes display shows the correct track and progress bar - but I can't switch applications and can't access Force Quit. The music will continue to play beautifully until I decide to cause a forced restart of the MacBook.
Anyone seeing this behavior? (Most posts seem to be about sound cutting out or sound quality suffering)

Music interrupts when using iTunes & remote speakers via Airport Express

Like many other I have had this problem.
Short version:
It disappeared when I turned of a wireless network expander and was only running the network with the wireless router and Airport Express on.
Long version:
I had the folowing setup. One Linksys wireless router, one Linksys access point configured as wireless repeater (to extend the range of my network). About in the middle my Airport Express is located. When I disconnected the Wireless Repeater the problem disappeared. My conclusion is that Airport Express was switching between the two "base stations" and that was when the interruption was created. Anyone else who has about the same setup and do experience the problem that can verify by disconnecting everything except the wireless router?

The trouble you are reporting sounds like WiFi connection probs. Signal quality and strength is just not sufficient to ensure a constant and high enough data transfer. I would recommend to do some test with AP and computer being rather close to each other. Its may a good idea to switch from WEb to WPA encryption.

Need Help with printing via airport

I have just purchased an airport extreme and am having troubles with it already.
The printer is not being able to be printed on even though the print is recognized by the base station. it is HP deskjet D2330. The bonjour program that comes with it wont accept the disk that has the proper .inf file. I even tried using the IP address of 10.0.1.1 still no dice. How do I set this up, this very important!!!!
My internet connection is also a lot slower on my main PC (windows xp pro w/sp2) which connected directly to the airport with eithernet cable and the internet is extremely choppy.

Problem with sharing internet connecting with Wii via AirPort

I have an iMac running the latest updates of 10.0.4. My internet is DSL, so it comes into the modem via the phone, and then the modem connects to the iMac via an Ethernet cable. ie: I don't have a wireless network.
I just bought a Wii and want to connect it to the internet using the built in AirPort feature of the iMac. After I turn on Internet Sharing in Sharing, the Wii will find the iMac as an Access Point (that's the term in the Wii menu).
The problem I have is that the Wii will not connect to the internet unless I turn off the firewall in OS X. Obviously, this isn't a great solution to getting the Wii connected.
Does anyone have any idea of how to allow the Wii through the firewall without turning off the firewall.

In the Firewalltab>Advanced, is UDP being blocked? You can also open specific ports.

Sharing Internet with others via AirPort Extreme

I have Air Port Extreme in my Mac Pro and I recently set it up so that my girlfriend who has a laptop PC can share my internet connection. My concern is now that anyone in our building can use my connection, right? I've heard something about passwords and things like that. Something about wep passord...
Can someone tell me how I get a password so that not anybody in our building can use our connection?

Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8) With built in Air Port Extreme

Plug the external hard drive into one of your stationary Macs. On that Mac go to System Preferences-> Sharing preference pane and enable File Sharing.
Now you should be able to access that drive from any of your other Macs.
