ITunes with Vista

I have Windows Vista ultimate installed on a PC.
When I connect my iPod Video windows warns that this device needs to be scanned. I have refused to allow it to do so. iTunes will sometimes recognize the iPod is connected, sometimes not, sometimes it will freeze.
Same Hardware with XP Pro installed never had a single issue in the 6 months I've owned the iPod.
thanks,

I also have undocumented issues with iTunes 7.1.1 and my 80GB 5th gen iPod. I waited patiently for 7.1.1 (it would not work at all with previous version of iTunes and Vista) and even when I installed 7.1.1 it would not recognise the iPod was connected, or if it did it would crash and blue screen Windows.
What I fond worked was to restore the iPod back to factory settings (make sure you have a good back up of your music, either in iTunes on your PC or better still on both your PC and a extra backup. This will effectively completely wipe your iPod. I then found conecting it back to iTunes that it recognised it quickly and synced the music quickly, i.e. it worked as expected.
However, trying to sync the Vista My Pictures folder with my iPod is impossible. I have about 5,000 pictures and it takes about 1-2 minutes per picture to optimise the pictures before syncing. As you can imagine, I have not let this function complete, an in mot cases it still crashes my PC. Something is no working still, maybe related to the recognised USB support issue for iTunes that Microsoft is still working on.
Does anyon have any ideas?

  • Ipod not recognized by itunes with vista!!

I (amid all of my other troubles with vista) have updated to itunes 7.2 but am not able to get itunes to recognize my 30 GB video ipod. I perused the other discussions and noticed others have had the same problem but never came across an answer.
    thanks

I just got Vista too and it does recognize my ipod, but itunes can't find a lot of my songs on the computer. I tried to uninstall itunes and reinstall it thinking that it would seach for new music when I installed it again but nothing new happened when I did that.

I can't import audio CDs into iTunes with my new Dell 531 Vista computer. The songs seem to import, but only small (~50K) files are created, which don't play. JohnAndKel,
That's odd because the CD reading test that the diagnostics runs didn't report an error. What happens if you select a song from the CD in iTunes and play directly from CD?
(Just a note, the filter trick doesn't do anything for CD import, just CD burn. iTunes doesn't use the Gear drivers for reading the CD.)

  • Issues using/uninstall/installing itunes with vista

I recently purchaed a computer with vista. Everything was fine with my computer and itunes for a while and then all of a sudden I received a message (through my desktop) that an iTunes file was currupt. Now when I try and open iTunes I get the following message:
Error writing to file C:\ProgramFiles\iTunes\ITDetector.ocx Verify that you have access to that directory.
    iTunes won't open after this.
I have tried to uninstall iTunes (which it will not do) and I recieve this message:
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing the package. This may indicate a program with this package. Error code is 2330.
When I try and install iTunes 7.2 I get the following message as well and the installation stops:
Unable to install the GEAR driver set at this time. THe GEARAspiWDM service use bythe GEAR driver set is scheduled to be deleted duringthe next system reboot. please reboot the system and run iTunes again.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can either repair iTunes or uninstall and then reinstall a working version? I appreciate the help,it has been a little frustrating.

Just doublechecking something. Were you installing the version 7.3.0.54 that came out just yesterday, or an earlier version?
If it was an earlier version, perhaps try a 7.3.0.54 install to see if that goes through any better. Here's a link through to that installer:

  • ITunes with Vista and data execution prevention

    Hi,
I just installed iTunes on a Vista machine. But the data execution prevention doesn't allow to start the iTunes.exe. I even can't add an exception in vista, it complains that it is not possible for iTunes.exe.
What the **** could be wrong here?
    Thanks for answers

    Thank you kindly.
From the Start menu, click Open.
In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected and that "Hide extensions for known filetypes" is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now open your C:\Windows\System32\ directory. What files and/or folders can uour see in there with QuickTime in the filename or folder name?
(In a standard QuickTime installation on a 32-bit system you should see just two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

At this point I have a dvd drive, but Itune gives me a warning the registry settings for burning cd's and dvd's are missing and that I should reinstall itune. I've been in this loop at least 3 times. So, is their a fix, or I can have a dvd drive or itune but not both? many thanks for any assistance. Manny

It's probably best to first check for a device filter conflict:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
But if you still get no DVD drive, *even when there's no filters in place but the iTunes ones,* then you're one of the unlucky ones.
At this stage, on some Vista PCs, the filters for the GEAR drivers that iTunes uses for burning and importing seem to be causing some conflicts. This article outlines your options:
Optical drives not recognized in Windows Vista after installing iTunes 7
It's probably worth keeping an eye on that document, in the interests of seeing if any new information becomes available. (Preferably information about a proper fix.)

  • Itunes with Vista, Data Execution Protection settings closes Itunes.

I star-up Itunes.  It launches correctly.  Once the Itunes window is open and my music librairy appears, Microsoft closes Itunes.  The final message says its the Data Execution Protection settings that forced it to close.  I try and change the settings by turning the DEP off for Itunes, but it says that it can't run without it and refuses to disable it for Itunes.
Called Apple, they say it's a Microsoft problem...
Called Microsoft, they say it's an incompatibility problem with Apple and pointed me here.
    Any suggestions?

After seeing Bill-Taylor's response, I decided to try alexloise's suggestion to see if it would solve the relatively minor Vista/DEP on iTunes shutdown issue. The short answer seems to be "no," at least in my case. The Microsoft link that turingtest2 posted gave me a big headache, but did not show me how to disable AutoRun for the CD/DVD drive.  (If I understand correctly, other types of AutoRun should already be disabled if all Important and Recommended Windows updates have been installed.) So I tried the registry edit suggested in this article: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2254345,00.asp. Only then did I see the iTunes notification mentioned by alexloise:
Unfortunately, I continue to see the familiar DEP notifications when exiting iTunes 11.4.

  • ITunes with Vista and fingerprint reader

    Hi
I have a new iPhone and a PC running Windows Vista. Just after the installation of iTunes 8.0.2 when I try to login for authorization, iTunes freezes and the only way to close is Ctrl-Alt-Canc.
Furthermore (yes, it's another question..) it is impossible to import from a separate disk a song purchased in iTunes Store.
    Any workaround?
    Many thanks for any answer.

Definitely a Windows Vista issue unless it's iTunes specific ...
Try playing a song in another program in Windows and see if the problem repeats itself. If it does, it's unrelated to iTunes completely and is a Windows issue. If it doesn't repeat itself, try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.

  • Playing shows on itunes with vista

We bought out little girl a cheap Acer laptop for playing games and listening to her music. The problem I have is that the t.v. shows that we get off of iTunes won't play right. When you play a show the sound most of the time plays fine but the picture keeps stopping. The iTunes on the Acer is set to play stuff we download from my wife's iMac and my MacBook Pro. The shows will play on both of our computers fine so I don't thing the files are corrupted. I've reinstalled iTunes on the Acer and it didn't make a difference. We even downloaded one straight to the Acer and it still does the same thing. The Acer is running Vista Basic. Any help to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks

To do wifi sync, you have to connect, wired, open iTunes and the main info panel for your iPad. THen enable wifi syncing. Sync wired, unplug and then you should be able to wifi sync.
Some tricks/glitches. Sometimes you'll need to wake up the iPad to get it to sync. I've also had to turn off the 'open iTunes when iPad is detected' after my iPad spent all night opening iTUnes every time it tried to 'reach out' and find my computer. it is also significantly slower to sync over wifi than wired, so bear that in mind.

  • Volume changes on playback in iTunes - with Vista and a brand new computer

  • Vista + iTunes (with Gear Drivers) = no CDRW Drive

Iv'e searched and troubleshooted this extensively and it appears the bottom line is that Gear Software is incompatible with my CDRW Drive and/or Vista. After an iTunes update, and rebooting my system, my drive (Sony DRU-710A) disapeared. The system could no longer recognize it. Turns out if I delete the UpperFilters registry entry (GEARAspiWDM) and reboot, the system recognizes the drive but then I get an error that iTunes needs a certain registry entry to function properly, and I can't burn CDs. I've updated my Gear Softare Drivers, my CDRW drive firmware and installed the latest iTunes... the only way to get it work now is... delete the registry entry, reboot windows so the OS recognizes it, then reinstall iTunes so it recognizes the drive...then I can burn a CD, but if I reboot, the system no longer sees the drive until i do it all over again.....this really stinks.... is the only way to get this to work to install a version of iTunes that doesn't use the Gear driver? and if so, which version do i need?

There appears to be a solution thanks to a poster on the Gear Software forum. Gear Software is the source for the Gearaspiwdm filter driver that is installed with iTunes.
Go to http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/forum/index.php and look for the post titled "Missing drives in iTunes - PLEASE READ!" which is located under GEAR Powered Products near the bottom of the page.
Registry changes should not be needed when using iTunes with Vista as many of you have found that such changes cause problems with iTunes. I'm currently using iTunes and another burning program which both place filter drivers in the registry entry for the cd/dvd drives and everything is working fine so check out the info mentioned above and post here if it helps. Thanks.

Not necessarily. Many times hardware gets shipped with older drivers - reguarless of when the comuter was purched or bult.

  • Syncing iPod in iTunes with Windows Vista

I have the latest version of iTunes.
I upgraded from XP to Vista.
iTunes was syncing my iPod fine before the upgrade.
After I upgraded, iTunes worked fine (although taking up a huge amount of RAM) but syncing my iPod happened like this:
iTunes would recognize the iPod and seem to start syncing but would just sit for 30 to 40 minutes, iTunes extremely slow. Then, after 45 minutes, iTunes would finally begin syncing and finish in a normal time.
It's been like this for a month now and I'm going crazy.
I'm really dissapointed, not only because Apple took forever to release an update to iTunes that would work with Vista, but also because the update barely fixed anything.
I'm not even going to bother wasting my time calling customer support.
Any sort of assistance would be greatly appreciated!
