ITunes woes with adding artwork

iTunes 10.0.1 (the latest).
Media is on a Time Capsule.
Attempting to add artwork to movies, tv (haven't tried music, but they are complete) and it spins and spins and does not add or iTunes goes unresponsive for 10 or 15 minutes causing me to force quit.
Or, I add the artwork, hit ok and nothing happens.
I recently purchased an Apple TV (2), so having movies on my macbook pro makes no sense and now been adding them and why they are on the TC. It plays fine, am able to add descriptions, etc. but can't add artwork.
Searched around here and someone suggested MetaX, tried that with unsuccessfully.
Any assistance would be appreciated as I've been at this now for some 2 hours.
Thanks!

I too am having the same problem, however my tracks aren't going into recently played..  I also am using 2 different users on this particular laptop and even when I share my library and it's visible on the other user's iTunes I cannot copy any of the songs onto their iTunes.  They have admin access.  I just don't know what to do this is killing me.

  • Itunes crashes while adding artwork and other information

Itunes crashes while adding artwork and other information to video and music files.  Killing the process is the only cure and crashes after inputing information for 5-10 video files.  I have the latest version of itunes, and this did not happen to pre 10.x versions of itunes.  Running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.  64-bit iTunes.

I do not think it has anything to do with router at all. I have 25mbps down and 6mbps up where I live. This is not shabby at all and I have latest TimeCapsule which is acts as my router at home. Yet the latest iTuns blows up playing streams. So I use this player instead: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html. Not as pretty, but at least I can play radio stream 24 hours a day with it and have no problems. iTunes 10.7 does not last one hour I too wish Apple fix it.

  • Problem with adding artwork manually in itunes

I'm having trouble manually adding artwork to several albums in itunes 10.7 on macbook pro (the 'get album artwork' facility won't pick these discs up presumably because they're too obscure).
I go to 'get info', select the relevant check box, then add a  non-read only, apparently normal jpg to the artwork box. This image then displays successfully in the artwork box, I press ok, but when I return to the albums list it won't display at all. This has been consistent problem that I haven't only experienced in this version of itunes and it's very irritating having just a few blank albums that refuse to change.
Any ideas what might be causing this. Or is there a workaround or an alternative method I can use to add artwork?

    Thanks both for the responses.
Limnos - I can't find an equivalent 'show artwork' function in the view menu in my version of itunes, and I'd rather not have step back to an older version of itunes if I can avoid it.
BUT having thought about it I think the root of the problem must be that they are all albums with .flac files that have been imported into itunes using the 'Fluke' software. I suspect this might be what's causing the problem - and I'm wondering whether that means the problems with Fluke itself. It's annoying that there isn't a quality music player on mac that handles .flac and I have to use these crappy converters.
If anyone has an idea about how to solve this please pitch in, but I suspect this goes beyond the remit of these forums.
    och well.

  • ITunes freezes when adding artwork

every so often when I'm adding albumart to iTunes my cursor freezes on the box in the bottom right corner, with no easy way to get it unstuck  (looks like this - http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg155/Mo-Dilla/frozen.png). I have to quit/restart in order to fix it. Please help this glitch is making it very frustrating to update my music.

I thought this was a problem until today. I added artwork to a mp4 file and it froze as expected. Rather than ending the process with a force quit, I browsed a web site. In about 4 minutes, the artwork was added and itunes was no longer froze. I don't know why it happens, but I suggest that you leave itunes alone for 10 minutes or so and see if the artwork gets added eventually. This may work differently on a mac than on windows, but hopefully not.

  • Grouping compilations no longer works after adding artwork..!

Until yesterday I had never bothered with adding artwork to my itunes library as I had a gen 3 iPod that would not show it anyway. I have a new ipod so last night I decided to add artwork, this I did by getting what I could from Gracenote, the rest I have been dragging from images on Amazon and other sites. Ever since doing this the Group Compilations option no longer works, despite having this checkbox ticked in preferences and making sure that the yes box for part of a compilation is ticked for these albums. In addition, every song in a compilation album is displayed individually in the Cover Flow view option.
Is this a peculiarity of 7.2 or is there a way I can get this to work again? I am sure it is something to do with having added artwork as it was working fine before.
The help menu in itunes seems to have stopped working too now, which doesn't help...obviously!

  • Movie downloads but stays in temp folder with no artwork

I purchased the old classic Forrest Gump and watched it fully download. However when completed it showed up in movies but with no artwork and when i double clicked it could not locate the file and showed the '!' symbol.  When i searched around i noticed the 'Dowbloads' folder inside the Itunes Media folder.  Inside that was Forrest Gump.tmp folder with a download.m4v file which was indeed my movie which would play in itunes but with no artwork and no authorization for Apple TV.
I found a free movie today on itunes which downloaded just fine, placed itself where it should go, with artwork and working fine on the Apple TV..
Is it possible for there to be a currupted file on the itunes servers?
I accidently purchased Forrest Gump again and it did exactly the same thing.  This morning it had moved itself to the right location but still artwork or authorization for apple TV
I got a responce from support saying they noticed the double purchase and would refund me but they still didn't listen or solve my problem.

The general method of use is to download the script to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist. Some scripts offer a choice of track by track confirmation of changes or fully automatic processing of the selection. Many of the scripts can optionally display a progress bar while running.
You are strongly advised to backup your entire library, or at the very least the iTunes Library.itl file, before use. Test the behaviour of your chosen script on a small group of files first to make sure it does what you want before applying it to large numbers of files.
Most builds of Windows will execute *.vbs scripts when you double-click them. If that doesn't happen then you might need to visit the Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features control panel to enable the Windows Scripting Host. I can track down details if you have issues.
Backing up and restoring data is an area that is often glossed over. Most people don't try to learn much about it until they've lost something important. (Me too )
If your iTunes library was in the usual layout then normally copying the whole iTunes folder from the User's Music folder in the old computer to the User's Music folder in the new one will usually work fine. Ideally this is done before iTunes is installed so that there is no empty library to replace, and all settings are picked up from the old library. This post contains more details.

    Please fix!

After "Restoring iTunes Library backup" it wont link to the files in the iTunes folder. I've followed the procedure as described, and the iTunes folder is in the correct location. iTunes lists all my music correctly (albeit with no artwork), but can't locate any of the files.
I've been restoring my iTunes folder from a backup hard drive to a new computer on which I've downloaded the latest iTunes (10.7). If this is a newer version than the one I backed up with could this be the problem? (I had the latest (to my knowledge) iTunes when I backed up the folder about 3 weeks ago, was this version 10.7?)
Or is the version of iTunes (within recent updates) not an issue when restoring a library?
    Using Windows 7.
    Any help please?

  • How can I get ITUNES to display manually added artwork for each song regardless of the album name?

I have been manually adding artwork to my songs. When I click the Show Artwork check box, it doesn't show the cover art. For example some greatest hits albums have different cover art per track. ITUNES picks one of the cover art and shows it for the entire album grouping.
Anyway around this? I want the added cover art to display per song.

The artwork of each individual track does display during playback, in the small thumbnail at the top of the iTunes window, or at the left of the MiniPlayer control (opens by clicking the thumbnail), or the larger artwork panel that is shown if you click on the Show Large Artwork control in the MiniPlayer. It should also display on any iPod or iOS Now Playing view.
The Up Next list uses the album art (usually cover of the first track) for everything from the same album, which is perhaps a shame, although in general one artwork per album makes sense.

  • Adding Artwork in iTunes 10

I used to just search for the artwork in Firefox, then go to Get Info in iTunes and drag and drop the album art...
That doesn't seem to work now. Oddly enough it worked ONE TIME but it hasn't worked again since. The cursor doesn't change.
What's the fastest way to add artwork in iTunes10?

adding artwork never was a problem. Usually, as was already suggested, I would choose the whole album (highlight all songs from the same album), if I see all the songs, or just right-click on the album if I am in the higher level menu (see only albums), then go to Get Info and in the main Tab called Info there is a place for the artwork in the bottom right corner, where I'd drug the artwork file from the browser or Finder. There is a green plus sign appearing above the field, then just drop the image there.
It always worked, NOT ANYMORE, probably, after I updated to version 10.5.2, cannot be sure: I've just converted an LP into wav files using a converter and then tried to add the artowork to them. That did NOT work the way I described above. For some of single songs I was able to add artwork by droppping the file into the artwork field
at the left bottom corner of the main iTunes window, but for some it did NOT work! Some further investigation gave the following: if I open Get Info for some individual songs, there is an Artwork tab there which is accessible (and show by clear black colour). The artowork can then be also added there (by dragging). However, for some songs that field is not anymore accessible and is masked (shown by a soft gray colour). I have no clue of why this happens!!! Does anybody have any idea???

  • Help With Adding Back Up of Songs & Lists on Re-Installed iTunes v 7.0.2

I have a portable hard drive with a back up of my 10,000 songs. I have to get my Gateway PC laptop serviced as it continues to crash, and so I will need to re-install iTunes v 7.0.2 and then add back my songs from the portable hard drive.
I need help with a couple of questions:
    1) Is there a quicker way to add the songs back on to iTunes rather than adding individual files (for songs) and individual folders (for albums)?
    2) I have several song lists (some used to make CD's). How can these lists be backed up as well so that I do not have to re-create these lists?
    Any advice very much appreciated.

There is a good article on backup here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1522195&#1522195
If all your music is in the iTunes Music folder and you have room, just copy the iTunes folder to your external drive.
This will include both your music files and the iTunes library files.
If you music is stored in other places, you need to backup those too. When you restore you need to ensure the full path name is the same.
Life is also much easier if you can keep exactly the same account name if you reinsall windows as the account name is part of the path to My Documents.
