ITunes won't add my videos

Hi, I have a problem thats driving me off the wall.
I have some movies I want to add to my iPod and so I'm trying to add them to my Library. It's worked in the past, but now when I try and add the movies(which i happen to know for sure are in mp4 format)it allows me to select the movie and press the "Open" button and then nothing happens, the movie is not added and there is no error message. It has worked in the past, but for some reason suddenly stopped working yesterday.
Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance for any help you might offer.

iTunes:
** Video content purchased from the iTunes Store.*
** QuickTime and MPEG-4 movie files that end in ".mov", ".m4v", or ".mp4" and are playable in QuickTime Player.*
** Video podcasts.*

You have to convert the other video files into a format iTunes can use.
Now the question is; How are you trying to add the mp4 files to iTunes?
The Add File command should work for those.

  • ITunes won't add files or folders

For the last couple of days I've been having a problem where iTunes won't add files or folders for no discernible reason. Yesterday I was able to add a few videos, then I wasn't. Today after reinstalling iTunes it added my music just fine, but when that was finished and I wanted to add something else, nothing. I don't know why it's doing this. Drag and drop doesn't work, either. When I try to bring a file over, I get a little red circle with the line through it saying it can't do it.
    Help?

Ok. So its finally working again. Not sure why, but maybe my experience will help someone else.
All I can say is that I have been trying a relentless combination of mounting and mounting the drive, checking and unchecking the 'copy files to iTunes Library', running 'consolidate library', and everything in between. One of them finally kicked it back into action.
Nice Apple. 9.2.1 isn't buggy at all...that's sarcasm.

  • ITunes won't play quicktime videos on Mac anymore.

    I'm using 10.7.3
    iTunes 10.6
    MacBook Pro 2.6Ghz 4GB ram
iTunes won't play my video anymore and it's been a while I'm not sure when it occured if it's after an update to snow leopard or iTunes updates...
When I double click a video I get "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." ??
...and cannot convert the option doesn't work I get this other message when trying to convert a version for APPLE TV in advanced menu "None of the selected files were converted because they could not be found."??
But the movies are quicktime movies in my library and the MPEG-4 plays in iTunes but not on APPLE TV.
From all my videos I get one only going through APPLE TV and when I try opening it it says error occured why opening and never works??
It seems APPLE is regularly messing things up in updates to loose people so they have to pay for tech support, I didn't upgrade to iPhoto 11 and cannot import anything anymore into it so my entire library is a dead one ; not a cool way to do business than messing people software so they have to buy newer versions!!!
Any specialists that know how to fix this ??

The 32-bit solution has never, I repeat, never worked for me.  I've even done a full reinstall on a clean drive of OSX Lion with a fresh install of iTunes downloading a video of "The Big Bang Theory" that just came out this last thursday and still get the error (just finished the full reinstall to a clean drive now and, no, I didn't do any backup restores.)
The only solution I've found is to remove the video from iTunes, without deleting the file, then import the file back into iTunes.
Switching to 32-bit iTunes to run the file causes iTunes to tell me it needs to open iTunes to play the file then it sits and waits for itself to open until I cancel the process.  The video then plays without audio.
I have noticed that I can stream the files to my Apple TV to play even while getting the error trying to play them on the computer I downloaded the files onto.
As a result of this error, I've had to reduce the amount of content I purchase from iTunes.  no more buying whole seasons at a time unless I do it at the start of the season.  Even then, I'm reconsidering it.  The amount of work required to get the files into a playable status on the computer is simply too great on an on-going basis.

    Hey guys, here's my problem.
I had some major issues with OSX last week that a trip to the Apple Store couldn't fix. Their only advice was to save all my pictures, music, documents, etc. and reformat. I did that yesterday. I reinstalled everything and then downloaded all the most recent updates.
Today, I can play all the music I own in iTunes (music imported from CDs, bought from other sites, and music bought from iTunes itself). However, it won't play any of the music videos I have (all bought off iTunes).
I have authorized the computer again and again. When I try to open the videos in Quicktime it tells me that I don't have permission to play them and that I need to authorize the computer.
    I'm lost. Any help?

Yup, this Audio but no Video WAS exactly the same trouble I was having, on my MacBook and iMac but not the other 2 MacBooks. This was due to the speaker settings at the bottom right hand corner of the iTunes window. I do use multiple speakers via Airtunes, on the two that were having trouble but not the other two, and although the speakers were only set to the computer it still wouldn't play the video content.
Whilst the audio (of the music video) was playing I then went to reselect multiple speakers, which brought up the "*failure to connect to remote speakers network refused connection*" warning, then I unchecked the remote speakers to leave just the "Computer" and hey presto the video came to life.
Thank you Charles C n Miami and hope this extra info helps.
    Happy Music Video Watching

  • ITunes won't add large files to the library

I use software to convert my personal DVDs into Apple TV format via H.264 decoder for 720p resolution. The resulting files are typically larger than 3GB for a 2 hour movie. Now iTunes won't add them to my library so I can't sync them or stream them to my Apple TV.
Any advice? Is there a setting in iTunes that I overlooked?
I have tried the mpg4 conversion setting for 480 resolution and those files will load into iTunes and stream to Apple TV, but they are grainy and a horrible quality. So for those saying I don't need to use the H.264, I am picky and want a high quality resolution.
Thanks for any advice and help.

It is possible that there is something else wrong with my files. Several mp4 files worked fine prior to getting a new iMac and transferring the files over (using ext HDDs, not the migration wizard). Quicktime won't even open the files in question. It states that they are not movie files.
Sounds odd, they may be corrupted.
Try enusring the file extensions are either .mp4 or .m4v (or .mov perhaps).
3GB+ for a file intended for AppleTv 2 hours long sounds excessive and may exceed AppleTv playback specs but it shouldn'tbother quicktime. If the files don't open in QT they may well be corupted.

  • Itunes does not add some videos

itunes does not add some videos you create, are videos of my nephews and does not add, also new films and not to add that I can do .....

this should help a lot. i've had the same problem w/ my ipod but i ended up fixing the problem and having about 5 videos on my ipod (until it was stolen). nevertheless, download a program called Videora Ipod Converter. once you're done installing it, click on Setup on the tabs to your left and then click Profiles. After that, create a profile with the following settings.
Existing Quality Profiles: (create new profile i.e. ipod)
    Profile Name: (same as above)
    Mode: MPEG-4 > CBR Bitrate: 768kbps
    Resolution: 320x240 Framerate: 29.97fps
    Passes: One
    -audio settings-
bitrate: 128kbps Channels: stereo Sample rate: input
after that, you should be fine. make sure you use the one-click transcode because you wont be able to complete fully with the transcode option (i forgot why because its been such a long time since i had my ipod)

  • ITunes won't add my music folder!

I've been trying for weeks to figure this out, my music folder is pretty big, almost at 60GB, and it used to be when I tried to add it to my iTunes library it crashed, well, I've been trying recently to do this, and it isn't crashing...but it won't add the whole folder. It adds maybe 1,000 of the songs and then it stops and won't add anymore.
Is there any way to fix this without having to go through and add 600+ folders manually?
      Windows XP Pro

    Hi Chris,
I appreciate all the info, but for some reason several of the artists didn't get backed up like they should have in the itunes music folder, so I have to add them back from my ipod. However, when I've tried to do that, it says I have 2 copies of each song and then when I delete the one I added off my ipod, it says it can't find the song.
But my ipod names the songs weird so I don't know which song is which! if that makes sense...
And b/c I deleted and then added back my itunes library several times when I was trying to get it sorted out, I have 3 copies of every playlist, even the automatic ones.
I'm so frustrated right now about all of this, and I can't sync up my ipod like I want to until I get all this figured out!

  • ITunes won't add pdf file to library

Using iTunes 10.7 on Mac OS 10.6.8
Simply trying to add a PDF file (created in Word for Mac 2011 v. 14.2.4) to my iTunes library so I can upload it to my iPad.
I have done this many times before with no problems. Suddenly my iTunes will not add my files to the library.
I did just run an automatic Mac software update (not sure what it was), and an recent update from Microsoft, but nothing out of the ordinary and I can't see why that would affect whether iTunes adds files.
Tried looking in HELP function but fould nothing remotely related.
Have no idea what to do now.
Any suggestions?  This is something that I do a lot of so I'm having a real breakdown here!
    Thank you for any help.

  • ITunes won't add or import new files

I am running mountain lion 10.8.2 and my system is fully updated.I have my itunes library on an external drive but I am unable to add new files to iTunes.  I have tried dragging and dropping and the plus appears and when I release the files I get the color wheel for several seconds but it does not get added.  The same happens when I try going through the menu and cmd+O.  I can download new items from iTunes but nothing can be imported.  I am at my wits end and can't figure out what is going on.

Update: this appears to be the solution, though not for the faint-hearted. The problem was a bad iTunes Library.itl file.

This solution worked for me, but my Time Machine let me down and I had to go back to a much earlier library file.

  • Itunes won't add iphone to devices, why?

2 days ago i downloaded itunes, registered my iphone, put some songs in it, everything was fine.
but today when i connect it, itunes won't show up that there is iphone connected.
    i'm using windows xp btw.

i had this problem last year, too.
    here are some ideas:
    1. Restart you're computer and connect your iphone to the computer again.
    2. if you're iphone can be found in the " Windows Explorer", you have to reinstall iTunes, because the programm "Bonjour" (part of iTunes, to detect your iPhone )
    3. check your Power Cable or Sync Cable of the iPhone.
I hope I could help you!
    Yours sincerly,
    Philipp

  • Itunes Won't add certain fully Compatible Video Files from Another Library

I recently updated to Leopard 10.5.2 on all my Mac computers. Ever since doing so, trying to add certain ipod compatible files to my Windows machine is touch and go. I have been doing the same add a file network transfer every day without incident pulling from three different Mac Itunes libraries. Until I went from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2. I can see, click, and request the file, but some files transfer without delay, others never copy over. I can't figure out why. One day recurring files with similar names transfer, others don't. I thought it could be a file name issue or directory name length, but I couldn't detect a pattern. The only way to transfer the file is to copy and paste to my Windows desktop, then drag and drop to my Windows Itunes libarary. Everything works fine that way, but it takes extra steps. Anyone have any ideas. I have no trouble with both my Mac and windows machines seeing each other and trasnferring files using explorer and Finder.

When this happens on my Win XP home PC, the file & folder have been mysteriously set to read only.
But you said yours were coming from a Mac, right?
In Windows, right-click on the file > Get Properties. I uncheck the read only box. Sometimes I have to restart iTunes. Other times I've had to restart the whole PC because the lock won't go away until I do.
Older versions of Windows had a nifty way to get rid of file locks on-the-fly, but they removed it in WinXP.
It's not just iTunes, either. These random file locks/read only settings happen with other files. I started happening about 6-9 months ago after a Windows update.

  • ITunes won't add songs to my iphone/adds them but they don't actually add?

Ok, so I keep trying to add songs to my iPhone, and half of them just appear greyed out with the circle next to them, and no matter how many times i sync, they won't ever add. Then, out of the songs that do add randomly, most of them don't appear on my iPhone and when I try to play them on iTunes (in the iPhone playlist) an exclamation mark appears next to them (so they didn't actually add, but they're in my iTunes library so I don't understand why it "can't find" the songs when I add them to my iPhone). As a result, out of 433 songs I've been trying for 2 hours to add to my iPhone, only 14 actually show up on my iPhone. All the songs that have added AND actually showed up on my phone and played are songs that I've purchased from iTunes, so I'm not sure what that's about. Oh, I also had like 50 songs on my phone before I tried adding all the new ones earlier, and when I started adding new music, all the previous songs that were on my phone disappeared from my phone and have exclamation marks next to them in my phone's itunes playlist. Can someone explain what's going on with iTunes?

Disconnect your iPod from your computer.  Close iTunes and re-open.  Connect the iPod cable to a different usb port, re-connect and fingers crossed the error will go away (happened to me on Sunday and doing the above resolved).
