ITunes won't back up my iPod

For a long time now iTunes has been acting strangely. Whenever I plug in my iPod, it appears in iTunes but it's grayed-out and it has a spinning symbol next to it. After a little while the message "iTunes was unable to load data class information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later." However, after closing the message iTunes ungrays the iPod and it begins to sync. The sync begins but it always freezes during the second step of the sync, when it backs the iPod up to the computer. Right-clicking on the iPod name on the left sidebar as well as trying to get to the preferences menu both temporarily freeze iTunes.
Sometimes when I use iCloud (to bypass the backing-up portion of the sync), then I can sync the iPod fully. When i select "sync to computer" from iTunes, it notes that the last time i backed up to my computer is "Unknown", even though I have synced to my computer a bit ago and the saves do exist on my computer. Occasionally while running iTunes diagnostics it says that it cannot connect to the iTunes store but upon further testing it can.
I've scoured Apple support for solutions and none have helped. I've run the "Netsh Winsock Reset" command but it hasn't helped. I've downloaded Autoruns for Windows to see if any other Winsock providers are conflicting with with Bonjour, but only 4 other common microsoft programs were running concurrently...so they probably aren't the problem.
As for security programs, I've used a handful of different ones over the course of the last few months. Currently I'm using Norton Security Suite and Microsoft Security Essentials. My computer has had frequent malware problems which may or may not be related to why iTunes isn't functioning...i'm not sure.
I'd really like to be able to get iTunes working so i can enjoy my media again. Thanks!

  • ITunes could not back up the iPod because the iPod disconnected

I had and solved a problem similar to the one reported by others: My iPod Touch 5 would not back up to iTunes. I was trying to update the iPod from iOS 8.1.3 to iOS 8.2 using iTunes on my PC and iTunes needed to back up the iPod before installing iOS 8.2. All of the attempts ended with the error message, "iTunes could not back up the iPod 'username' because the iPod disconnected."
I was finally able to update to iOS 8.2 directly from the iPod using wifi rather than through iTunes on my PC but the iPod still would not sync/backup with iTunes. (iTunes version 12.1.1.4 running under Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) SP1.) I tried a soft reset on the iPod; powering down and back up the PC; restarting iTunes; disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod. Nothing helped (I did not turn off my security software). The "Backup now" command and the "Sync" command in iTunes both resulted in the same error message as given above. "Sync via wifi" was NOT checked in iTunes. The backup file in the PC was renamed "Backup-Old," forcing iTunes to start a new file, but that didn't help either.
Finally, I discovered that Backup/Sync DID work if I started the Sync from the iPod using the "Sync Now" command in "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync" under the "General" section of "Settings." After doing a backup once that way, the backup via iTunes worked properly. I don't know why it worked that way but obviously some block has been cleared. This method might be added to the list of "things to try."

I have the same problem tonight for the first time. I restarted the iPod and my powerbook then used disk utilities to repair disk permissions then tried again. It got stuck on step 4 13 of 13 songs. Each time I try it gets a few more songs over before it freezes. Then I get an error message; Unknown sync error
    0xE800400B.
While it is syncing the "s" on "slide to cancel" on the iPod screen is flashing. Finally iTunes freezes and I have to "force quit".
In previous tries the iPod turned off yet it still appeared on the list of devices in iTunes even after getting the "unknown error" message.

  • HT1711 I don't know my password and iTunes won't back it up without it.

Yesterday I took my password off of my phone and this morning when I was turning it back on I typed in the wrong password so it reset it to whatever I had actually wrote and I have no idea what I wrote so I ended up locking it for an hour before giving up on guessing what the password was. And now when its plugged into iTunes it won't back it up because there is a password on it! I've done a lot of stuff in my notes since the last time I plugged it into iTunes (which was a month ago or something, I'm rearly on my computer).
I've tried to restore my phone three times already and it's not working because I'm trying to restore it with the 5.1.1 firmware because I still haven't updated my phone because I really don't like the 6.0.1 update and every time is says that there is an error but when I go to the linked site that says how to fix the error nothing is working for me! And even if I do restore it with the 6.0.1 update I will still lose everything from my notes!
Can someone please tell me how to get everything back to normal!!!! (By the way I have an iPhone 4S)

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.

I get a message when downloading video to the Ip[od: "I tunes could not back up the Ipod, because a session could not be started with the Ipod." What does this mean? What can I do? I cant put in any video. HELP!

I get these issues too, Even with a restore?
I work around it, (and would appreciate feedback on if this works for everyone) by :
Right clicking device in iTunes and selecting "backup", I then get the error; I quickly "ok" the error, then select "backup" again, then I often get the error a second time, but on the third attempt (in very quick succession) of selecting backup, the task initiates, and completes successfully!
Exactly the same for a restore!
    Did this work for you?

  • Itunes won't transport files to ipod

This has never ever happened before, but I plugged my iPod in to add some more of my music over from iTunes and apparently they won't copy because my 'iPod software is too old'. The message told me to go to www.apple.com/ipod to get the latest iPod software update. I updated iTunes but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm really stuck.

  • ITunes won't sync info to iPod touch

    Hello,
I keep getting the following error message when attempting to sync my contacts, calendar, and bookmarks with my iPod. When I check these under the "info" tab and ciick apply, the following error message appears:
"iTunes cannot sync information with this iPod because syncing has been disabled on this computer. Do you want to enable syncing? If you do not enable syncing, iTunes will not be able to sync contacts, calendars, bookmarks or mail accounts to your iPod."
When I click yes, the following prompt appears:
"iTunes was unable to load provider data Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later."
When I click OK, it takes away my selections to sync contacts, calendars, etc.
I have never disabled syncing. I've looked through system and iTunes preferences and can't even find an option to disable/enable syncing.
This was after I updated my iTunes. Then I tried reinstalling it but noting.
Any advice about how to resolve this very frustrating problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.
I'm attempting to setup up MobileMe and need to get this problem resolved.
    Thanks,

Ok...I found a fix that worked awesome on my iTouch. The only drawback was that I had to re-import all of my music, but that might have a lot to do with the fact that I fugged with my Library file(s) before attempting this fix. Here goes...
Follow tediknight's process for removal of the offending iTunes 9.1:
here are they programs and you have to delete them in order
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Now go here: http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=54#download and pick the version you would like. If you've got an iTouch, you're going to have to pick a version 9.0 or newer...which doesn't give much wiggle room. I picked the most recent version before the 9.1 clusterfug (9.0.3 and in my case 64 bit) because I knew that version had worked right up until the update. If you have a 64 bit Windows system, MAKE SURE you pick a 64 bit build. Otherwise, you're just wasting your time downloading and will have to start all over.
I spent three days solving this problem, and now I'm back up and running. (Other than still having a thousand or so songs to move back into iTunes. But, like I said earlier, that may have been my own fault, or my inability to follow the instructions to restore my library. The files are still there.)
I hope this helps some folks out. I know I was frustrated to all **.

  • Some video purchased in iTunes won't load on 60GB iPod

Upgraded software & iPod yesterday. Have purchased several seasons of TV shows (Weeds & others). Before update could see all video. Since the update iTunes shows the video playlists selected for syncing. Cannot find any episode) of Weeds on iPod anywhere in video section, although I saw the episodes being synced in status bar during update. I CAN see the other seasons OK.
Suggestions? Have already de/re-authorized computer w/o incident and can watch individual episodes in iTunes on computer... just not iPod.

I had the same problem after upgrading iTunes to 7.0 and iPod to 1.2. All my music is still on my iPod, as well as my music videos, but all the TV shows I have in iTunes are not showing up on my iPod. My iTunes has 11 shows currently, my iPod used to have all 11, but not only contains 5. One thing I did notice is the five shows still on my iPod are episodes I have not watched with my iPod to date. The other 6 I did watch using my iPod. Could there be some licensing issue with the latest update to my iPod software restricting having the shows on the iPod after viewing them? What if I want to watch the shows again on my iPod? Please note: I have not unchecked the shows to restrict tranferring them to my iPod. How can I get all my episodes back onto my iPod?
