ITunes won't connect with ATV1

I have a first generation Apple TV. It has worked flawlessly for over a year, but now my iTunes fails to recognize it. I deleted my computer from the Apple TV on the weekend, and then did a re-sync (which takes about 7 hours thanks to my library). Seemed to work fine. Apple TV works fine, but opened iTunes on my computer again today, and once again no Apple TV in the devices. I did search the forums, but couldn't find the answer. Any help would be appreciated.

OK, I think I may have found the answer to my own question. This is a cut and paste. Unfortunately, I don't have time to try the fix yet. I will post when I do. Hopefully it will help someone else:
READ THIS!! - SOLUTION HERE!!!!!
The problem is that your ATV was synced to your "old" itunes library and when Itunes upgraded it became a "new" itunes library. ATV can only be married to one library (the old one for now) and so it is not allowing the new Itunes ot even find it. You have to get divorced from your old library before you can marry your new one.
Steps:
1- ATV- Settings/Computers and click on the first item which is your old library. Then confirm you want to disconnect from Itunes which basically divorces ATV from old library and deletes all the old content. In my case there were two movies and five music videos which had not been synced and miraculously those were the only items not deleted (I CAN'T PROMISE YOU THE SAME WILL BE FOR YOU SO TAKE PRECAUTIONS IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF STUFF...I risked like $30). Everything else was gone from ATV.
2- Restart both ATV and Itunes
3 - ATV - Now you are ready to marry to the new library. Go to Settings/Computers/Add Itunes Library.
4- Itunes - Open Itunes should now find the "Apple TV" device and a link right next to it to setup a new synch - NOT STREAMING. This is what you have been looking for. Click on that little link and enter the password displayed on the ATV.
5- Itunes now has the elusive Apple TV tab under preferences but of course you dont need it now since it will show your Apple TV listed already. But there it is!
6- In my case Itunes started retrieving my my two movies and five videos into Itunes and then proceeded to synch ALL my stuff back to the ATV - overnight and then some!
And peace was restored to the universe.
Good luck

  • ITunes won't connect with iPod

Whenever I plug in my iPod, it begins to connect, but instantly goes to the "Now Ejecting" screen.
It won't even show up on iTunes either.
This might be because last time I was updating it, an impatient somebody unplugged it mid-download and a little bubble popped up and said that there may be problems with the iPod.
    The bubble was right.
    halp.

  • Tried to update to newest version. I got error because i didn't have this recovery program disc that was supposed to come with the purchase but it didn't and now my ipod touch 8gb won't connect with itunes and is stuck on a connection with itunes screen

I tried to update to newest version via pc. I got error because i didn't have this recovery program disc that was supposed to come with the purchase so it says, but it didn't and now my ipod touch 8gb won't connect with itunes anymore and is stuck on a screen displaying an itunes icon with a usb icon.

oke i'm not done with the whole thing, but i'm doing that right now. Most of the advice I've already read didn't work and at a certain point it said something about shutting down programs then restart. but i notice that there are some pretty important system things in that list and i don't want to mess up my pc :s i'm not a pc genius... and because i'm dutch and my pc-language is in dutch I often have trouble translating and well... i don't always understand the technical stuff in all the articles -_-

On my windows 7 machine, itunes won't connect home sharing with my apple tv.  This problem started about two itunes updates ago.  Any thoughts?

Also might have better luck posting to the Apple TV forum.

  • HT4623 phone is locked with a passcode and I don't have the passode, it says connect to itunes, and itunes won't connect because it says to enter passcode on phone. The device also does not show in itunes so I can't restore

iphone 4s is disabled. It says connect to itunes. Itunes ays could not connect because phone is locked with a passcode and to enter passcode on iphone before it can be used with itunes, but I can't enter the passcode because 1) don't know it 2) it's disabled. The device also does not show up in itunes, so how can I restore the phone or unlock it?

Same answer as last time you asked the exact same question:

  • My ipod touch was submerged in water and now it is telling me to connect to itunes, but itunes won't connect until i put the passcode in my ipod, and i can't do anything with my ipod until it connects. what should i do?

my ipod touch was submerged in water and now it is telling me to connect to itunes, but itunes won't connect until i put in the passcode, and i can't do anything to my ipod until it connects to itunes. so, basically i can't do anything from the ipod or to it from the computor. what should i do?

    Restore...
From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

  • After installing Norton Antivirus to my PC, iTunes won't connect

A few months ago, after getting a nasty virus, I had Norton Antivirus installed on my PC.  Since then, my iTunes won't connect to the store.  This wasn't a huge deal until I got an iPhone, now it's a constant issue.  Has anyone had a similar issue or know what in the world to turn off/on to make it work again?

What iPad117 is describing is recovery mode. this will need a restore in itunes to be able to use the device again, clearing all data. If you want to avoid this, try this first: Try a different usb port. A lot of ports are not compatable with some iPads. One in the back of the computer is usually best. Also try a different cable, and make sure itunes is up to date.

  • Itunes won't connect to the internet...HELP!

itunes won't connect to the internet everytime i try to accsess the itunes store it says there a connection error and that i need to check my connection. I know i am connected to the internet on SPRINT BROADBAND. What can i do?

I am having the same problem. Upgraded from 8.0.1 to 8.0.2 Everything worked fine before the upgrade. Since the upgrade I can connect to the internet but Itunes will not connect to the itunes store. Network is fine. There is no problem with my firewall. The problem is with upgrade to 8.0.2. I did a system restore to yesterday and itunes is back to 8.0.1 and is running fine. I tried the update again and back to the same old problem. Spent about 6 hours searching for the answer but I have found nothing. If I restore itunes back to 8.0.1 it works and connects to the itunes store. If I upgrade to 8.0.2 itunes will not connect to the itunes store.

  • Itunes won't sync with my iphone 4s

itunes won't sync with my iphone 4s. I performed device sycn and device connectivity tests and they all pass. Nothing changes on my phone though. itunes version 11.1.3.8 and IOS version 7.0.3

  • My itunes won't link with my apple tv

my itunes won't link with my apple tv, I've tried shutting down my modem and router and all devices, I've unplugged the power, I've reset with menu and down button....what else works? Have had the ATV2 working since june 2011, problem started with in last 2 months.

I'm having the same problem. I have reset the Apple TV, reconfigured homesharing on both the Apple TV and iTunes, and all the other stuff described above. One other bit I can add is that my iPhone will connect to the Apple TV, it's just the Mac that won't. As with kwillie, I've had this Apple TV 2 working with my 2008 Aluminum MacBook for quite some time. The Apple TV is recognizing the computer and can play music from it via homesharing, but the computer can't AirPlay back to the Apple TV. Very strange.

  • My itunes won't connect to the itunes server. Can someone help?

My itunes won't connect to the itunes server. Can someone help?

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
When you repost, you'll need to include a lot more informaton about your system and the exact nature of the problem. As it is, there's nothing for anyone to base a diagnosis on.
    Regards.

  • My iTunes won't connect to the iTunes store why?

My iTunes won't connect to the iTunes store why?

Hey, I had the same problem with the itunes not connecting to the store thing, I recommend checking your firewall and stuff make sure itunes (or safari) is not blocked, if everything is ok with that (apple apps not blocked), Uninstall Itunes, safari, quicktime icloud and whatever apple app you have on your computer. and get an earlier version.... the problem in some cases? Apple Application Support on itunes 10/quicktime 7 and later, a flaw that apple has to work on I recommend downloading a earlier version of itunes

  • Itunes won't connect to active WiFi

I've read all the forums and topics but still haven't found the answer to why iTunes won't connect to the WiFi at my home. I have no password on my WiFi. Other computers in the home use it just fine. Safari on iPhone works great. I reset the network on iPhone and chose the home network. There are plenty of bar showing it's active but I keep getting the same message in iTunes that it can't connect to iTunes because it needs a WiFi connection. What else can I possibly be missing. I've been using Mac since '84 so I'm quite experienced with all settings and what they do but this one has me stumped. What can you suggest. (new iPhone 3G)

You are not connected to your WiFi network as you do not see the WiFi symbol on the iPhone you can see the 3G symbol. The iTunes Store on the iPhone does not work via 3G it only works via WiFi.
Clearly you are not getting access to the internet via your WiFi.
You should turn on WiFi on the iPhone and then you will see the iPhone searching for wireless networks. Your WiFi should appear in the list and you should then select it by touching it in the list. It should then have a tick mark against it in the list. If it does then touch the blue circle next to the WiFi name which will show you the details of the WiFi you are connected to, if the screen does not contain IP addresses then you are not connected to the internet, even though you may have WiFi connection. Are you sure the WiFi you are connected to has working internet?
