ITunes won't even run

I just bought an iPod Nano, installed everything, updated everything, and when I try to open iTunes, I can't even get it to run. I am working on a Windows XP. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Even starting from scratch with nothing but what came on the disc with my Nano. Help Please!!

You may have already done this, but if not, you'll want to post this in another forum: iTunes for Windows. You'll find better help and advice there.

  • Installed 4.9... now iTunes won't even launch

Okay.... here it is: I downloaded and installed 4.9 and now when I click on the iTunes shortcut on my desktop, iTunes won't even launch. In addition, my laptop won't even shut down properly now. I get a bizarre error message and it hangs for 4 or 5 minutes (despite the fact that I try to End Program over and over again). I have had to take the battery out to shut it down because of all this. More important, I can't access my iTunes!
    thanks,
    P.

Try using the "Clean' method for uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes. See Da Gohpa's link, toonz' link, as well as all the related links and activities provided below.
You may first want to try a “Repair Install”:
    - Start menu -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Add or Remove Programs
    - Select iTunes, Select Change/Remove button, Select "Repair", Click OK.
If that does not work, then read all the below and apply it to your situation:

b Uninstalling iTunes will not erase your music files,
or the two meta-data files iTunes uses to store your music info files (iTunes 4 Music Library.itl & iTunes Music Library.xml). However, it is
    i always
a prudent idea to have backups of your music files on some external source (CD, DVD or External Hard Drive).
b Prior to implementing the info in the links above,
close ALL running programs. In addition, you
    b should
    i temporarily
disable any TSR programs like firewalls, virus scanners, spy sweepers and the like. You will need to disable them both before uninstalling ANY software and/or before installing ANY software. Most of these TSR programs have System Tray Icons (usually located in the lower-right corner of your XP screen), that allow for an ‘exit’ or ‘quit’ or ‘shutdown’. Usually a single right-click on the icon will bring up a selection menu.
These TSR programs can impede installation of some software or create conflicts later on during operation (or lack of operation) Some anecdotal reports suggest that iTunes 4.8 & 4.9 are affected. Based on the amount of success by folks here who have tried the Clean Install, this seems to be a good solution for a variety of iTunes operational ‘glitches’
Please note that your TSR programs will all restart upon reboot. You will not be left unprotected. This also means that you need to remember to disable them when reinstalling iTunes after rebooting.
    b Also:
You may still need to turn off the 'Fast User Switching' even if no one else is using the computer.
==>Start/Control Panel/User Accounts/Change the way users log on and off/ ==> remove the check mark from FUS.

I've just updated my Itunes to the newest update (iso7 I think) and now my itunes won't even open. It just jumps 2-3 times on my dock then doesn't open. I have no idea what to do , please help!

Open Finder. Go to the "Go" menu in the menu bar. Press and hold Control and click on Library. Go to "Preferences". Find a file named, "com.apple.iTunes.plist" and delete that file. This won't delete your iTunes content. It will reset iTunes. Try it again.

  • I can watch all of my old TV shows on iTunes, but the last one I downloaded jammed up after about one minute.  I tried quitting I-tunes and re-starting my computer to no avail.  iTunes won't even let me delete it so I can try downloading it again.

  • Music gone, doesn't recognize iTunes, won't even respond...

    Felicitations, guys, :P
I have a four-year old white 30G iPod that's been working as perfectly as the day I got it...until now, and I'm getting a little frustrated. D: My family and I went on vacation for a month, and I brought my iPod along for the trip, of course. I don't have the regular iPod charger that fits into the wall, since I usually use my iHome to charge it, so over the vacation I used my computer cord and my dad's laptop to charge it.
This usually works fine, since he doesn't have iTunes (it's a Lenovo using Windows Vista) and therefore doesn't try to sync up...usually it just charges great. I always use the "safely remove hardware" tool to eject my iPod to use it, but about halfway through the vacation, after ejection, I found out that my iPod had nothing on it - no music, no videos, no photos. I checked the settings and it had all 30G of space on there, so everything was erased, not just corrupted (or so it seems; I'm not an expert.)
I searched my dad's computer for my music, but it wasn't there; I didn't really panic, though, since I figured I could just resync it to my iMac when I got home, and everything would be fine...
So, I'm home now, and everything isn't fine. I plugged in my iPod into my iHome to let it charge (it was dead) and when it had enough juice, plugged it into my computer to let it sync. What do I get? A message on the screen that says "Please plug into iTunes to reboot," or something like that - I can't quote verbatim. Well, I was already doing that, so I ejected my iPod and made sure it was reset, turned it off, turned it on, then plugged it back in...and there's no response from iTunes. It won't even acknowledge my iPod.
Right now it's still plugged into my computer, and all it says on the screen is "Do not disconnect" in a strange font. Nothing else. Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks, everyone,
    -Ari

Just an update - I let my iPod run out of battery and die, then plugged it back in. iTunes acknowledged that it had a corrupted file (I was wrong, then) and was going to restore the iPod, but it couldn't fix it due to an "unknown error." Then my iPod fitzed a little and shut down. Should I just guilt my parents into buying me an iPod Touch, which I've wanted for awhile?

  • Keeps saying damaged library. i have uninstalled and installed, deleted files and sent files to recycle. nothing works and now itunes won't even open.

i have repeatedly received the message that the itunes library is not valid and is damaged. i have uninstalled itunes between 6-8 times, sent files to recycled and still get the message. now, it won't even open....

Have you tried the procedure here?
How to recreate your iTunes Library
If not, that might do the job for you.

  • Firefox is starting in a small window, and won't even run no matter what. Help?

Okay, long story short, I accidentally downloaded some viruses. We got them removed (me and my father), but now, Firefox won't start! Well, it does, but it opens in a very small window, doesn't have the logo, and can't do anything but shrink. Please note, that not even Internet Explorer/Exploder could connect to the internet, so I'm using another computer.
    Best of luck,
    Red (My nickname).

When you start Firefox, normally there is a thumbnail of your startup page above the Firefox button on the Windows 7/Windows 8 Task bar. Is that all you see, the actual window is nowhere to be found?
    '''''Thumbnail Only'''''
Sometimes the Firefox window gets off-screen. If you have a multiple monitor setup, make sure both monitors are on. Other users have reported that sometimes Firefox behaves strangely when the second monitor is off.
In all other cases: Sometimes the Firefox window gets "off screen" somehow. You often can force it to appear on the screen by right-clicking the little thumbnail image above the Taskbar and choosing Maximize. Does that work?
One possible cause for this is that the file which stores window sizes and positions has become corrupted.
'''Method #1:''' ''If you can get a maximized window:''
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''xulstore.json''' to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old as well.
Start Firefox back up again. Do windows display normally again?
'''Method #2:''' ''If you cannot get a Firefox window at all:''
Shut down Firefox by right-clicking the taskbar icon > Close All Windows.
Using the Run dialog (windows key + R) or the Start menu search bar (or in Windows 8 maybe the charms bar search bar?) type or paste the following and press Enter to drill down to the Profiles folder:
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
Here you may see one folder -- in which case, double-click into that -- or more than one folder -- in which case, double-click into what looks like the most recently updated.
Scroll down and rename '''xulstore.json''' to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old as well.
Start Firefox back up again. Do windows display normally again?
    '''''Broken Window'''''
If you get an actual Firefox window with missing features, try launching a new window using Ctrl+n. Also, try double-clicking the top bar to maximize the window. If neither works, please try the steps above for the Thumbnail problem.

  • My iTunes won't even load anymore, when I click the icon, it looks like it will open and then it doesn't. Please Help!

iTunes will not open at all. It looks like it will and then it doesn't (the windows loading symbol appears and then it disappears). I even tried uninstalling iTunes and downloading it again and installing it, nothing works! Please Help!

    1. First check if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    2. If that fails, refer to following article to remove SC Info.lib file:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    3.  If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime.  START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REAPIR.

  • Itunes won't even open??

for some reason after i downloaded the new itunes, it worked like 1 time then all after that i double click on it, it won't show up, i go into both harddrives and click on the icon there and it won't show up either, it just had the little loading symobl for a couple seconds then nothing happens. Anyone know the problem?

many people have this problem, myself included. i've yet to find a way to open it, except uninstalling it and reinstalling on occasion. try temporarily disabling norton internet security 2005 [if you have it], that doesn't work for me, but it works for some.

  • ITunes won't even start

Hello, I've never had problems with this before, but ever since I got the update it wont start at all. Any help here?

It appears in my processes for 3 seconds then disappears.
that tends to be most consistent with malware, so i'd try randy baton's suggestion.
download fresh definitions and run vigorous virus and spyware scans. if your security software providers offer them, try running an online virus scan too. (that can sometimes pick up an infection even if the security software on the PC has been compromised.)
if your security software providers don't offer online scans, perhaps try the Symantec Online Virus Check. (apologies in advance ... it takes an eternity to complete.)

  • ITunes won't even open, please help!

iTunes used to open when I turned on my PC but now will not open at all. I cannot access any music files or even use iTunes as a media played for cd's or anything. Everytime I try to open iTunes I get an error message that reads:
"The iTunes Music Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file"
this just recently started happening, yesterday actually. I've tried updating iTunes, unsuccessful. Please assist!!!

    hi lotus!
"The iTunes Music Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file"
first check to see if the library file has been set to "Read Only":
What are the iTunes Library files?
but if no joy with that, head to the following KB doc:
iTunes for Windows: "Disk is locked" or "iTunes folder cannot be found" when installing or opening iTunes
    keep us posted.

  • TS1717 Restore my ipod? ITUNES WON'T EVEN LET ME SEE THE SUMMARY.

I have been going over my ipod touch for the past 5 hours: it was quite simple, i needed to reset my ipod to factory settings so connected my ipod, reset the settings and plugged it back into itunes.
Now for the past 3 hours, everytime i connect my ipod, itunes recognises that it is in, but only lets me see the 'Sync with itunes so you can listen to music, add apps and other media' whilst showing pointless arrows and texts telling me how to do so - my problem? EVERYTIME I CLICK ON A ******* BUTTON INCLUDING SUMMARY NOTHING HAPPENS.
I've tried everything but without even being able to look at the summary of my ipod, i can't even restore it back!
PLEASE SOMEONE HEP ME BEFORE I CAUSE A ******* RIOT.

Do you see any button that allows you to 'agree' or ' get started' or something?
Keep calm and reboot your computer. If that doesn't help, remove itunes and its components using
