Itunes won't fill in missing information automatically

Hi
Until now, my itunes always filled in missing information automatically, as i type in the first letters of the genre, the album or the artist... Now it suddenly stopped. It still works when i go on "go info", as when i select several songs i want to edit genre of, but when i do it directly on the playlist it won't work anymore.
Does anyone have the same problem? and does someone know what to do about it/how to change it back?
I didn't change any settings, and i already checked in preferences but nothing like autofill (un-)checking.
All i know is that it started a few days ago, i guess when i updated my itunes. well it updated kinda automatically i just clicked yes. But i mean i didn't do anything wrong, this thing is updating every two months!
This not-filling-in thing is really annoying because well, guess i don't need to explain why...
So when you know how to change it back please tell me!!
Thanks for any help!!

It sounds like you need to restore your ipod using the latest ipod software. Once you restore the ipod sync it back with itunes and it will allow you to set it up again. Use article 60983(click on support and enter that number in the search menu) when restoring the ipod, it will guide you through the process.

  • ITunes won't sync with my iPhone automatically after v10.4 update

I recently updated my iTunes to v10.4, since the update when I connect my iPhone to the computer (iMac) iTunes does not start up and sync automatically.  I do have "Open iTunes when this device is connected" checked on.  I'm running v10.6.8 on my Mac, have not updated to Lion.

Don't know about the 10.4 install, but see other reports of this similar issue tied to 10.4 install, and devices....maybe it's something that will be different with iCloud in the Fall, and this is an "oops" about what we need to do to be ready to use it?

Looks like whether you use the "prevent syncing" or the "open iTunes" settings, you need to select/deselect to get iTunes to properly work with (multiple) devices again.

  • Itunes won't start up, missing folder.

The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder.
Above is the error message I get whenever I try to open iTunes. I've tried re-installing, I've tried manually creating the folder on both hard drives. I'm not sure what to try next? The installs go fine?

This article deals with the problem:

Sometimes you can't find My Music in the list of special folders in TeakUI. If that happens there is something else you can do.

  • ITunes won't fill up my nano (I think)

    Hi,
My wife got me a 2 GB nano for our anniversary/Christmas. I have created a couple of smart playlists in iTunes (rock/pop and classical) and have set the nano to sync with those two playlists only. I have limited the size of the classical playlist to something like 450 MB and the rock/pop playlist to something like 1250 MB.
Anyway, when I sync the nano and then compare the playlists on the nano with the smart playlists in iTunes, all the songs are supposedly there. However, the space used for each playlist on the nano doesn't match the space used for the rock/pop smart playlist. That is, the smart playlist says something like, "230 songs 1.2 GB," but the same playlist on the nano says something like, "230 songs 880 MB."
So, I'm confused and don't know which reading is correct. I'd like to load up the nano completely (ie, use all the space available). However, the "About" setting on the nano itself says something like, "400 MB free."
I don't know how the iTunes smart playlist can have 230 songs and be 1.2 GB whereas the exact same number of songs on the nano is only using 880 MB.
By the way, the classical smart playlist matches exactly with the classical playlist on the nano.
What gives? What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

  • ITunes won't fill CD-R

I haven't been able to get iTunes to actually use all 700MB/80min of my CD-R's. If there's more than 45-55min of music in the playlist, it gives me the ol' "If you want to continue, we'll have to split the playlist across CDs" error message. This has happened with numerous playlists/burn attempts across several reboots...
    Any ideas?

Only audio CDs will show up in iTunes.
If it has MP3 files on it, go to File -> Add Folder {or File} to library and select the MP3 CD.

  • ITunes won't save changed track information

I am trying to edit and save track information (album name, # of #, etc...), including adding artwork, but no artwork ever gets added and when I click on the track to read the information, after editing it, it reverts back to the original information, except for the # of # and album artist. Those are the only 2 items that stay changed. I cant seem to change the album name, cant delete the comments and can't add artwork. My iPod Classic shows the original info, not the edited info, including no artwork.
This has never happened to me before. Any suggestions?

Ok, so I've narrowed it down to the folder containing the files has the read-only box completely shaded in (as opposed to a check mark). I can not, under any circumstances get this box to stay unshaded. I un-shade it, apply, go out, and when I come back, its shaded again. I've scoured the net looking for a fix and no one seems to have one that works. I am not sure how all my files on my computer got to this status as they were never like this before.
Has any one else had this problem and found a way around it?

  • A pop-up message is frozen on my settings page. I was trying to set up an apple id for iTunes when I got a message "required fields have been left blank. The missing information is highlighted in red." the ok button doesn't work. 1st gen iPad.

A pop-up message is frozen on my settings page. I was trying to set up an apple id for iTunes when I got a message "required fields have been left blank. The missing information is highlighted in red." the ok button doesn't work. The message is now fixed & I cannot get rid of it. Ironically, when I found this forum I was able to set up an apple Id. Please advise how to get rid of the pop-up box. Thanks!

I'm having this same problem as well and cannot advance--very irritating. All of the information is filled out correctly and I've editted my AppleID information online separately as well to get around this issue, but no luck...

  • My billing information is correct however iTunes won't accept it. I have tried changing it to "no" card, my statements from the banks are addressed to the same address. What the **** is going on?!

My billing information is correct however iTunes won't accept it. I have tried changing it to "no" card, my statements from the banks are addressed to the same address. What the **** is going on?!

Debit cards already in an account seem to keep working, but many people have reported that when entering or updating a card that debit cards are now rejected, and they're not listed in the accepted payment methods.
As to your issue, only the iTunes Store can help you with this. I understand the irritation, but please note that the U2 free offer is just a single song, not an entire album, so we're only talking about $.99 if you miss out but still want the track. Not a big deal, in my humble opinion.

  • 2 things: iPhoto isn't automatically copying all my imported photos into an iPhoto album folder AND ever since i upgraded my MacBook 120GB to Snow Leopard, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone.

So i have a 120GB MacBook that's about 4 years old (just updated to Snow Leopard--been working in Iraq, i'm a little behind).
Never had a problem with it.
I also have an iPhone 4 which i've had for about a year (up-to-date software as of about a month ago).
Never had a problem with it.
I've had iTunes for years of course (up-to-date).
    Never had a problem.
    1.
Now my iTunes won't recognize my iPhone since the Snow Leopard update.
iPhoto will recognize my phone, but iTunes won't.
Went through all the preferrences and i can't find anything that isn't set properly.
iTunes Helper is used during startup.
    Everything seems fine.
    Any help?
    2.
I use a WD external hard drive to back my Mac up every week or so.
I recently realized that half of my pictures from iPhoto are not copied to the external.
    They haven't been transfering over.
So i snooped through my folders and as it turns out, iPhoto hasn't been copying the pictures i import from my iPhone to iPhoto and saving them as .jpg files in the pictures folder (or iPhoto album or whatever) like i think it's supposed to.
My pictures folder has approx half of all my pictures in it, meaning at some point (probably 2 years ago) iPhoto stopped making the file copies of my imported pictures.
    I do not know why.
No idea how to fix it.
If i were able to fix that (with your help), would all the pictures that haven't been copied automatically copy to my pictures folder once i had the issue resolved or would there be a lot of dragging and dropping?
I've been clumsily and sloppily copying all my pictures to a new folder on my desktop and manually transferring that folder to a thumb drive (which i keep in my pocket) and my external (just so i have them in some form) in case my computer crashes or a mortar shell lands on my room and blows my computer up.
Can anyone please help me with any of this?
I can't just stoll down to the Apple store to ask the Genius Bar (I'm in Baghdad) and i don't have Apple Care so no one will help me on the phone when i call Apple.
    Thanks so much.

    hey mill1640,
Did you ever get your iPhone to register with iTunes? I just upgraded as well to Snow Leopard, and my my isn't recognized at all also.
If you did get this resolved, I would appreciate a little suggestion in the right direction.
    Many thanks,
    Josh

  • Itunes won't open automatically when I plug iphone in

I have recently had a lot of trouble syncing calendars with my iphone.  I have done all sorts of restarts etc.  One problem throughout (recent) is that when I plug my ipne in, itunes won't start up automatically and sync.  I cannot tick the box on itunes saying "open itunes when this phone is connected" as it is pale grey and won't let me.  Anyone any other ideas?  Everything is updated.
I am on a mac and running Mac OS  X version 10.6.7
    itunes version 10.2.2 (12)

    Thanks!
The likeliest possibility I can think of based on your symptoms is damaged Apple Application Support program files. (Much like iTunes versions 9.0.x, iTunesHelper requires a properly functioning Apple Application Support in order to work correctly.)
*Assuming that you don't have a Safari for Windows version 4.0.5 installed on that system,* I'd try the following technique with a 32-bit Vista:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2256037
*If you have a Safari 4.0.5 installed on the system* we'll need to try something different. (We need to make sure that you have an Apple Application Support 1.2.0 on the PC in order for Safari 4.0.5 to work ... at the present point in time, the procedure I outline above will only put an Apple Application Support version 1.1.0 back on your PC.)

I have the exact same problem.
I have uninstalled the program, rebooted and downloaded the update again. Same problem, same message.
Please, where is that missing MSVCR80.dll? I don't remember misplacing it.
    I'm a Windows 7 user.

    Hello Melly89,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like we need to uninstall not just iTunes, but its associated softwares as well.
I recommend this article to help with accomplishing this task:
