ITunes won't install on my system: error during installation of assembly

Hey everyone. I've been living a nightmare for the past month. I tried to upgrade my system to Windows7 x64 and had major CPU problems. After nearly a month of trying to fix it, I decided to go back to Vista x64. That solved my CPU problem, but now I can't get iTunes to load!
Here the error message I get during installation:
An error occurred during installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32"version="8.0. 50727.762",processArchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070424
Any ideas??

Doublechecking something, paradox. Head into your Windows Update and have a look at your Update History. Have updates also been failing for you? If so, what error code shows up for the failed updates?
(Doubleclick the failed updates to see a small window with more information, including the error codes.)

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

OK.  You may have to reinstall everything from scratch but follow following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components

Sometimes people getting these ones will also see failures of Windows Updates showing the same error message codes. In those cases, if we can get the Windows Updates problem sorted, we can sometimes also get the iTunes problem sorted.
Check your Updates History in your Windows Update. Have a lot of updates been failing for you recently? If so, click on each failure and check to see the error codes you've been getting for those. Are they 0x800736b3s or something different?

    Hello, Welcome to discussions.
To recap what was asked before. If you could post more information about your OS and system. Example below
Windows XP Home or Pro - What service Pack?
Windows Vista 32 bit or 64 bit - What service Pack?
*You can obtain this information by right clicking on My Computer or Computer and selecting properties.
If you are running Windows Vista there are currently two versions available for the OS
    -32 bit iTunes - http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    -64 bit iTunes - http://support.apple.com/downloads/iTunes8_0_2_for_Windows_64bit
*Also if you have Vista. When you go to install iTunes you can right click on the iTunes Setup File and run as administrator. You may also wish to turn User Access Control off for the moment to attempt to install iTunes. This can be accessed via
-Control Panel - User accounts - Turn User access control on/off and uncheck the box and reboot. Repeat steps but check box and reboot to re-enable the service.

  • ITunes won't install. Says error writing to file C:\Program Files\itunes\itunes.resources\da.lproj\AboutBox.rft

    iTunes won't install.
Says error writing to file C:\Program Files\itunes\itunes.resources\da.lproj\AboutBox.rft
Does anybody know what I need to do to fix this?

I am the administrator, so this can't be a rights problem. The error message says "error writing to file c:\program files\apple software update\softwareupdate.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory".
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive, as per the following document:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Itunes won't install. Error message: Apple Application Support not found

Itunes won't install. Error message: Apple Application Support not found.  What is the fix for this?

It is always these four updates that fail.  I've tried downloading and installing them seperately from apple downloads.  I've tried various recommended fixes, and nothing I can figure out works.  Before these problems, itunes worked on the computer for a year.
Thank you again for wanting to help me.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

    Hi, kdub5.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you can not update iTunes due to a .msi error.  I would recommend uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components as outlined in the first article below.  For any component that gives you the .msi error, go through the steps in the second article below.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" alert appears when you remove Apple software in Windows

  • Itunes won't install. AMDS won't uninstall

Itunes won't install. I've tried to uninstall itunes and all apple software so that I can install the latest version. But it won't let me uninstall apple Mobile Device Support. Can anybody help? How do I get iTunes back? Whenever I try to install the latest version it gets stuck just after checking the AMDS.

There is no text error message. The install of itunes just freezes on the "Checking Space Requirements" bit (which is immediately after it checks AMDS.
Hmmmm. Possibly a disk/file damage issue there, tom. If so, running a chkdsk over your C drive might help.
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
