ITunes won't launch after copied from old computer

I copied my iTunes folder from my old computer to an external hard drive. I then copied that folder to a new laptop. My iTunes folder is showing two additional folders - iTunes and iTunes media (has all my downloads listed). However, iTunes won't open at all - I don't even get an error message. Any ideas?

Get rid of Norton's, it's far more trouble than it's worth. This is exactly the kind of thing that happens when you run Disk Doctor or the other parts of the suite, and is why they got out of the Utilities market for the Mac.
1. Try repair Permissions with Disk Utility
2. Try Trash the com.apple.iTunes.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder
3. Try Re-install iTunes. Move the app from the Applications Folder to the Trash, then go to HD / Library / Receipts and trash any pkg file there with iTunes in the name.

  • ITunes won't launch after upgrade

I just downloaded the new iTunes upgrade onto my Macbook, and now iTunes won't launch. It just bounces once and then does nothing. I've gone through the uninstall and reinstall process, but still no dice. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (Also, since I uninstalled it, did I lose everything I'd previously downloaded to iTunes?!)

Anyone know what this is about?
    I'm running OS X on a 2.7GHz i5 with 16GB of RAM on a iMac platform.
I've tried to re-instal OS X, but that didn't help me at all. It didn't even change the error message.
Thanks for the help apple community - Take care.

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • ITunes won't launch after system re-install?

I had to reinstall Snow Leopard after my finder disappeared (I'm assuming some corruption to finder but who knows).  Anyhow, I've spent all day re-installing Snow Leopard and bringing it back up to 10.6.6.  Many of my third party apps needed to be re-installed as did major apps like FM Pro 11.  But the Apple app. that won't launch is iTunes 10.4.1.  Anybody with any thoughts on why this is happening and how I can resolve it?  Thank you.

I re-verified permissions, shut down and removed all power (inc battery)- restarted and itunes started when launched from doc. I don't know what the difference was, but it seems to be working.

  • ITunes won't launch after latest update

    Hi.
I've just downloaded and installed (through system update) the latest iTunes version and now it won't launch. It worked perfectly fine fine before the update but now it won't open. Icon bounces then just stops... Any ideas!? Thank you!

    Thanks for the replies...
It seems alot of people are having this trouble, I do have shapeshifter on my system, I'll try adding iTunes to the exclude list and see if that does anything. I'll try your suggestion with the library folder, does that mean to trash the iTunes library folder or just move it out of where it is? What I don't get is how it can be corrupted, it worked perfectly before the update

  • Itunes won't launch after trying to install podutil s/w

I purchased the ipod version of podutil. When installing the distribution s/w, it said "Podutil needs to run an application in order to determine if compatible with itunes". I agreed but it never returned any response as complete or unable to complete. Itunes showed in dock as running but never launched. When I tried to force quit, it would not quit. Even when I force quit in finder it would not quit. Now when ever I try to launch itunes it doesn't launch but it shows in dock as trying to run. It still doesn't respond when I try to force quit. If I attach the ipod, itunes still does not launch. Ipod shows up on desk top, I can launch podutil. I tried to run an upgrade for itunes found by software update (as an attempt to repair) but it locks up during update process.
Has anyone seen this lock-up using the software? My OS version my be off a bit, I'm sending this from PC at work so I can't check, but its last version of Jaguar.

  • ITunes won't launch after most recent upgrade

    Hello,
I recently installed the iTunes upgrade that appeared on my Software Update application. However, now iTunes will not launch, meaning that when I try to open the application, the icon in the dock bounces once and then nothing further happens. I have tried downloading iTunes directly from the Apple website, but the behavior is exactly the same. What do I have to do to get iTunes to work again?
(BTW, I'm glad to see that the updates are new and improved...)
    Thanks,
    Adrian

    Hi Adrian,
Just out of curiosity, what happens if you open iTunes from within the Applications folder instead of from the Dock? Does the same thing happen?

  • ITunes won't launch after upgrade - says files are missing

I had trouble upgrading to version 6 but disabled my anti virus software (McAfee) and the upgrade seemed to run OK. After restarting my computer iTunes won't run as it says files are missing and I need to install them. It was all working fine before. I have over 4200 tracks and I'm worried I've lost them although they are all still on my iPod. What do I do next? Please help.

  • ITunes won't launch after update

Automatic Updates installed ITunes 11.1.3 and now my ITunes won't launch

Sorry. I thought that would work.
It's clear that Apple has a problem on their hands. I have sent my information to Apple, which sounds remarkably similar to yours. Hopefully by the time we wake in the morning, Apple will have some answers.

  • Itunes Won't Launch After Licensing Agreement

Whenever I try to launch Itunes, by double clicking the icon, the licensing agreement flashes by very fast and then Itunes does not launch. I believe I had 6.0, but when that wasn't launching, I downloaded the new version (7.0), I believe. I've noticed quicktime is similar and will not launch. I've deleted and reinstalled multiple times, but the same thing keeps happening. Any suggestions?

  • ITunes won't download to iPod from new computer

I installed my iPod and iTunes software on my laptop pending the arrival of my new computer. I had no problem downloading music from the laptop and still don't. But after installing the software on my new Dell XPS400 and downloading music to iTunes, iTunes won't hotsync to my iPod. I can't get any of the music off my new computer except by copying it to disc and moving it to my laptop. This is not very efficient. Please help, someone.

  • Old emails suddenly disappeared after move from old computer

Yesterday I moved my email account from my old computer OS ubuntu 10.04 to a computer OS linux mint17. I copied the thunderbird ****.default folder c/w the profile.ini. All went perfectly with my email account springing up with all my emails going back a couple of years. Hearty slap on the back until tody when I switched on to look at emails and found only one, a new one. All other emails have disappeared.
I have read several posts and finally found the "archive" button and moved it onto the Tool bar, but my old emails haven't appeared in it.
Can someone please tell me where they are and how I can retrieve them. The server type has changed itself to IMAP (was Pop3 on the ubuntu set up). I am not good with technical computer language. Thank you.

Thank you Matt for your reply,
I looked at 'Help menu > troubleshotting information and click on the show button for the profile folder' and that is the one I copied over from the old computer. The problem arose from Thunderbird automatically setting up my new email account with IMAP when my old account (in Thunderbird 1.5) was pop3.
    With help from:
https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/email/change-pop3-account-to-imap-or-imap-to-pop3, I have reset the account to pop3 and then exchanged the old profile folder (abc123yz.default) a second time and now I have all my old emails again.
    So problem solved!

  • Image won't open after copy from lr 3 to ps3

    hello,
ps cs3  won't open an image after i select copy or use original from LR 3 3.5 /camera raw 6.5.
if i select open with LR adjustments (first choice at top) image will open.
i'm guessing this has something to do with the version of camera raw??
    thanks, Owen

Ok, i did some testing and here's what i came up with. I use both the d200 and d700.
all files are .nef's. the files of the d700 open in all 3 options from LR3.
there are some photos from d200 that open with all 3 options as well, however i found that in another series of photos with the d200 when i open the nef, do changes, and hit save, it doesn't reimport, it puts it in the folder as .tiff but doens't bring it back into LR
i can import the .tiff  back into LR3 but once it's imported my only option is to open with LR changes.
This is a bit strange?? two different shooting sessions, all in .nef one opens and reimports as .tif and the others don't.
    thoughts?
