ITunes won't launch. Have tried (I think) everything.
Okay, I want to get a little something off my chest and say that it is absurd how difficult it is to get help with iTunes, honestly. Really frustrating me ;_;
Moving on.
I recently got a new laptop, custom built and shipped last week. It's a Dell, 1GB RAM, 1.73GHz Pentium Processor, and all-around a pretty decent machine. Anyway, so I was looking to play music from my iPod through my computer, so I go to DL iTunes, and it works, I listen to music for a few hours, and then shut it down to go to sleep. I start back up the next morning, attempt to start iTunes, and nothing happens. I ctrlaltdel to check the task manager, and iTuneshelper is running, along with iPodmanager, stuff like that, but not iTunes.exe.
So I restart. Still doesn't load. I turn restart and turn off my firewalls. Still doesn't work. Restart again, uninstall iTunes and Quicktime, come back, re-download and reinstall, still nothing. Uninstall Quicktime only, DL the Standalone quicktime, install it, still doesn't work. Go through the whole msconfig deal. Still nothing. So, here's a list of things that have tried and not worked, for easy reference:
-Restarting
-Uninstalling iTunes/Quicktime and Re-DL'ing and reinstalling
-Uninstalling Quicktime, DL'ing Standalone, reinstalling QT.
-msconfig stuff
-Completely uninstalling McAfee.
Oh, yeah, I'm running Windows XP, by the way.
Also, my firewall has been turned off the entire time, so I know it's not that.
So, seeing as I'm going crazy without the ability to listen to my music, I would appreciate some help. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Since downloading itunes rev6 have been unable to use itunes...error message when launched "quicktime not able to initiate ..."
Apple procedure proposed through Windows XP error message function did not work..this has been the case since 22/11/2006.
Yesterday..went through the following procedure :
1/ uninstall Quicktime only
2/ re download itunes rev6 from apple site
3/ during download process "uncheck" installation proposition to have itunes as the prefered audio player on my PC
4/ complete installation process.
5/ re launch my computer..
6/ I checked that Quicktime worked ..It did ( first time since Nov 11 !)
7/ launch itunes = didn't open but no error message ?
8/ go into desktop configuartion & "personnalize option" & declare itunes as your prefered audio player
9/ re-launch computer..
10/ Surprise it worked !
Good luck & by the way totally agree with your opening comment..as I have just spent 6 weeks & endless time browsing the net to try to solve my problem..
Seeing the cost of the product which I love...very poor support organization = bad point for Apple!

I had a similar problem (itunes appcrash), I tried to delete everything, but by following really step by step this tutorial (link below), I managed to delete EVERY itunes file and component. Once your computer cleaned, just download back itunes. I hope it will work for u.

Itunes won't launch after trying to install podutil s/w
I purchased the ipod version of podutil. When installing the distribution s/w, it said "Podutil needs to run an application in order to determine if compatible with itunes". I agreed but it never returned any response as complete or unable to complete. Itunes showed in dock as running but never launched. When I tried to force quit, it would not quit. Even when I force quit in finder it would not quit. Now when ever I try to launch itunes it doesn't launch but it shows in dock as trying to run. It still doesn't respond when I try to force quit. If I attach the ipod, itunes still does not launch. Ipod shows up on desk top, I can launch podutil. I tried to run an upgrade for itunes found by software update (as an attempt to repair) but it locks up during update process.
Has anyone seen this lock-up using the software? My OS version my be off a bit, I'm sending this from PC at work so I can't check, but its last version of Jaguar.
powerbook G3 F/W bronze -pismo Mac OS X (10.3.3)I re-verified permissions, shut down and removed all power (inc battery)- restarted and itunes started when launched from doc. I don't know what the difference was, but it seems to be working.

Have tried the complete unistalll and reinstall without success
One thing i noticed is that when it freezes and i open task manager to close it down it says 32 bit next to itunes not 64 bit?

This is a user-to-user troubleshooting forum. Folks come here to troubleshoot their problems. So we, quite naturally assume that's what you were trying to do, and reply to try to help you fix it. The reason why you see so many people here saying there are problems is that this is where people come if they have problems and want to fix them.
If you believe the problem is all at Apple's end, and would like to register a sort of complaint with them (rather than do any troubleshooting of your problem), then it makes a heck of a lot more sense to contact Apple directly via the product feedback pages. (Because this is primarily an user-to-user forum, there's no guarantee an Apple person will see your post here. ITunes won't launch if iPod is connected but ejected
If I connect my iPod (set to Disk Use, no auto-launch of iTunes), then eject it through the Finder, iTunes won't launch. It hangs with no window until force quit or the iPod is unplugged. I've noticed this through several versions of iTunes.
Note that I found this topic already in existence here, but I felt that the issue needed a bump to the top of the list.Does your quicktime work perfectly? I got that message when I tried to open iTunes 5 a couple times, and my quicktime wasn't being sensed by the computer at all. It was just there.

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:

Got new ATV and all set up. It keeps loosing connection with iTunes on laptop and have tried everything suggested in set up guide. It works fine for a while then the iTunes account vanishes from 'computer' menu TV screen. Full Wifi signal on both devices so can't think what could be causing it to happen. Any suggestions please?
Sorry, I updated another thread I was a part of but didn't update my own thread.....ughhh!
I updated all of my ATV 2's and 3's to the latest firmware when it was released and have been problem free since. I do believe the major issue of not being able to connect after a period of inactivity has been corrected with the latest ATV firmware.
I can look at my network connection table using "netstat -an" in a CMD window and I do not see the massive number of connections I saw before the update.

As soon as I plug my iphone4 (running 4.3.3) into my pc, it appears in the left hand column and the little wheel starts turning. Then it stops after a few seconds and itunes freezes. I have tried everything. Can anyone help. Thanks

Yes, a very frusterating issue indeed. Someone else had mentioned a possible issue with real player, I tried getting rid of that and same issues. I even got completely rid of firefox for the moment. Guess what, problem still is persisting. I think this means it maybe something else altogether. I will go back to re-add firefox after I get this straightened out but now using Chrome for the moment.
What I've also found out is that the sound can be restarted when I unplug and replug in the 3.5mm speaker cable from the audio output jack on the back of the computer. Any ideas?

When I go to plug in my iPhone 5 to my PC it will charge my phone but it doesn't show up that it's connected to my computer or in iTunes. I have tried just about everything that I can find in the support discussions but nothing has worked. Any other suggestions?
If you have carefully follow ALL of the steps in that article, you are using a USB port directly on your computer and not a USB hub (don't use a front port on a tower or desktop either, as they are an internal hub) and you installed iTunes correctly using an Administrator ID and you have tried disabling your antivirus and firewall then there is no hope of it ever working. Look at the tip again, and go through it carefully, not skipping any steps.
Note, BTW, that an iPhone will not show up on a computer, only in iTunes. If there are photos in the Camera Roll then it will appear in Windows as a digital camera only. -

You will need to select and sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent sync remains on the iPad, not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from it. -
I was in the middle of the iOS 8 update and tried to turn my phone off (yes, I realize this was dumb) But what happened was it tried to reset. Now, my iphone 4s has the connect to itunes screen. I have tried to reset, recover, etc but I keep getting and error -51 message. Any ideas how I can get my phone working again? I am not worried about saving any info just having a phone to use!
Try a Hard Reset.....
Press and hold the Wake / Sleep button AND the Home button at the same time, keep them both pressed until the Apple Logo appears on the screen, it can take 10 or more seconds. Ignore the swipe to turn off message. -
