Itunes won't launch, no error message

I have an ipod shuffle and everything was fine till I downloaded the new version of itunes. Now itunes does not launch, it does not do anything atall, no error message, no hourglass, nothing.
Also, my ipod shuts down after playing for just 5 minutes. It seems like it is not getting charged even if I leave it in my computer for a while.
Quicktime launces without any problems.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

    Yeah

OK, so i cannot enter into iTunes safe mode, whilst monitoring proccesses in the task manager I noticed that itunes will only stay open if i keep my fingers on shift and control-i dont know if that is worth mentioning- the proccess promptly ends after the release of the said keys, (I tried both the shift control keys on either side of the keyboard-same result) so i am stuck there.
    P.S.
This version of iTunes had previously worked before, I uninstalled everything apple related after noticing how many processes (-id est-) /applications, were using up my memory.
afterwards I had need for iTunes, (i needed to wipe my iDevice) I reinstalled and this problem has arisen.

Itunes won't install. Error message: Apple Application Support not found.  What is the fix for this?

It is always these four updates that fail.  I've tried downloading and installing them seperately from apple downloads.  I've tried various recommended fixes, and nothing I can figure out works.  Before these problems, itunes worked on the computer for a year.
Thank you again for wanting to help me.

  • ITunes won't open - wordless error message

When I try to open itunes, I get a wordless error message that only shows a red octagon behind the itunes application symbol. The only option is to click 'OK'. Any ideas what this is and how to deal with it? I haven't used itunes in a few weeks, so I have no idea when this problem occurred. I've searched online and in the forum, so apologies if I'm missing something obvious!

Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ directory and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

  • ITunes 7.0.1.8 won't launch - no error messages

On 10/19/06 I upgraded to iTunes 7. The version on my system is 7.0.1.8. After installation and restart, I clicked on the icon and got a message that QuickTime wasn't up-to-date so I updated it. The on my system is 7.1.3.130. Since then I cannot launch iTunes. When I click on the icon the hourglass comes up for about 5 seconds and then disappears. I have gotten no error messages. I have used Repair on both iTunes and QT from the Add/Remove program screen.
I have read many of the postings here in the forum and am not certain what to do next. Could someone point me to course of action to take to uninstall/reinstall/downgrade, whatever, without screwing up the rest of my system?
I am running Win XP Pro, ZoneAlarm Security Suite, and as far as I know all my software is up-to-date.

OK, I took a deep breath and did the following:
-- using Add/Remove Programs, I removed all Apple products
-- I also removed the new Google toolbar just in case
-- I ran the Disk CleanUp system utility
    -- I defragged the C drive
    -- I restarted the PC
    -- I went to Apple.com
    -- I enabled pop-ups
-- I turned off the ZA Security Suite
-- I asked for the download of 7.0
-- It worked and iTunes loaded at the end
-- I restarted the PC w/ the Security back on
-- iTunes still worked after this test
I have to say I am hesitant about hooking up the iPod though. Maybe another day ... I hate messing w/ this stuff

  • ITunes won't open, QuickTime error message

By accident, I deleted QuickTime, and can now not open iTunes, so I downloaded QuickTime again, recieved a message that QuickTime has been successfully downloaded, but when I try to open/run it, I get this error message:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ContentIE5\TYMNQEZC\Quicktimeinstaller[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application"
I am a computer illiterate, Please help me!

hmmm. let's try an alternate technique for swapping out your QuickTime that doesn't involve redownloading an installer.
first let's just make sure your previous QuickTime is thoroughly gone.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • 7.1.1 iTunes Fails to Launch (No Error Message, Pretty Weird)

After downloading iTunes 7.1.1, I installed iTunes. The installation went well and everything was installed. I had no problem with installation.
However, after installing, I tried opening iTunes. However it fails to launch and I don't receive an error message.
When I open the Windows Task Manager and check out the processes, the iTunes.exe appears for 10 seconds and then disappears.
The weird thing is, is that iTunes version 4.0 works perfectly. (I think it's 4.0. It's the one that has the green note. The current versions have the blue note.)
I can open it up and play my music.
I have a Dell Dimension 8200 (It's about 6 years old.) The operation system is Windows XP.
Can someone explain and tell me how to fix this problem, so I can open iTunes 7.1.1.
    Thanks.

However, after installing, I tried opening iTunes. However it fails to launch and I don't receive an error message.
When I open the Windows Task Manager and check out the processes, the iTunes.exe appears for 10 seconds and then disappears.
doublechecking one more thing that can help narrow in on possible culprits with these sorts of symptoms.
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • ITunes won't run - gets error message from windows

I updated my iTunes, and then it would not run - got the "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. I repaired the files, same thing. I uninstalled and reinstalled, same thing. I followed all the directions on the support site, same thing. What now?

Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken or missing QuickTime. (itunes needs a fully functional QT in order to work properly.)
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly? or do you get an error message, or some other peculiar behavior, or find that it isn’t on your PC at all?
if you get an error message (or peculiar behavior, or find that it’s missing), the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes 6
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • ITunes will not launch--no error message

I just got a new iPod for Christmas (5th Gen 30 GB iPod with Video--Black), and I've been trying to set it up. I have yet to even plug my iPod into the computer because there is a problem with iTunes. Every time I click on iTunes or attempt to open anything with iTunes, nothing happens. For a few seconds the cursor will have an hourglass as if something was happening but then it goes away and nothing happens. I've tried many methods of fixing this problem but nothing is working, and without an error message, identifying the problem has been made difficult. I've reinstalled iTunes a few times and there really are no other problems with anything else on my computer. Can anyone help me?
Edit: I do not have Norton on my computer. I do have McAfee, Windows Defender, Lavasoft Ad-aware, and Spybot--Search & Destroy
Also, Quicktime is working fine, and no, there is NOT a flash of the license agreement
    Thanks
Dell Windows XP 1st gen. 2 GB iPod Nano (Black) ; 5th Gen 30 GB iPod with Video (Black)

That was my first attempt at fixing the problem and it didn't work. I guess I'll try it again.
    Edit: Nope, nothing

  • New Lightroom2 install won't launch properly - error message

I installed Lightroom 2 and filled in new upgrade serial number etc. then quit. Now if I try to launch the app I get an error message "An error occurred when attempting to change modules". This appears first and if I click OK the Lightroom2 window appears but with nothing in it (no side panels, no photos) and Clicking on any of the modules prompts the same error message. Can't do anything at all. If I try to open my previous Lightroom1 catalogue it seems to be doing something but then the same error message appears.
I've repaired Permissions, verified Disk, trashed Lightroom1 and 2 preferences, rebooted without login items but nothing has changed or resolved the problem. I had no issues running Lightroom1 on this Mac.

    G4 PowerBook al 1.33 GHz/1.25Gb RAM
    OSX 10.4.11
99.48Gb of disk space free out of 148.93Gb

    Problem solved!!
I was checking the differences between my normal admin User account/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom contents and the one on the clean other admin User folder in the same place and noticed that on the one that works there are a slew of folders in there (Develop Presets, Export Presets, External Editor Presets, Filename Templates, Filter Presets, etc etc). On the main admin account, there was only one, the first. So it seemed the install on that account didn't load all the needed info. I simply copied the missing folders from the account that worked into the Public folder, switched to my main account and added those missing folders in the proper place. Voilà!. Now Lightroom launches normally and I don't get the dreaded missing modules alert. Hurrah!

  • New HD installed, GB won't launch no error message

I am working to fix my husband's computer. We bought it last Sept. and three weeks ago it had major issues. We sent it in to have the sleep sensor, logic board and hard drive all repaired and/or replaced (replacement done on the sleep sensor and HD, not sure what they did to the LB.) He is running a MacBook OSX 10.4.11. We also had the Geeks import his data from his old system to the new HD.
Every time we try to use GB, it bounces once and then stops - no error message, no launch, nothing but a note in the crash log. I have tried creating a test user as well as working with the permissions and deleting the preferences (or the reverse - I followed the instructions on Bullets and Bones...)
Called Tech support - they said to reinstall using Disc 2 - I don't want to lose all of his HD or even all the things he has worked so hard with up to now. But I am at a loss for anything else to try! My next step is back to the Genius bar to see what the deal is - he is very frustrated at not being able to use programs that had no trouble before.
    Thanks in advance!

I've dumped the preferences list and reset the permissions to no avail. My only concern in doing a reinstall is whether he'll lose the audio files he's worked with up to now? Also, I'm confused because I was told to use the disc 2 for a reinstall but in putting in disk 2 there was only a text file saying to insert disc 1 to reinstall... I don't want to do anything rash here and have (many times!) greatly appreciated the value of the experience here on the Discussions boards - this is the first problem I've had where someone has not gone before me and I've been able to find an answer to fix my own problem. Thanks for sticking with me!

  • ITunes won't start - No error message

My iTunes was running fine up until a few days ago, then whenever I plugged my iPhone in it would freeze and crash. After reinstalling it, the same issue happened up until my problem now where it won't even start. I click on it and nothing at all. But, I open my task manager and it is there running with abnormally low usage. You can see in this picture, its in my task manager but on the bottom tool bar it is not running: http://yfrog.com/4jcaptureqkp
I end the process, and try to start it again, but to no avail. I have run Malwarebytes and Microsoft Essentials numerous times and have not found any issues. Outside of reinstalling it (for the half dozenth time) I am out of options.
I have scowered the boards here and Google of course without any luck. Your help or advice would be greatly appreciated in hopes that I don't have to re-install Windows.

I'm having much the same problem. I have XP Pro and SP3. I can't get iTunes or Quicktime to launch. I'm using iTunes 7 anf Quicktime 7. I tried the fix with the smart card file, but it didn't work. I can't get the Smart Card Helper to activate. I just keep getting a "1068 error" with I try to start it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
