ITunes won't let me change sorting information

Hello,
So, I like to keep all of the sorting information on the songs empty in my iTunes library. However, some of them won't change or go away no matter what I try. I've tried simply erasing the tag, converting to a new file, and converting the ID3 tags to "none". The sorting name always keeps comes back.
Is there a method that I'm just too dumb to have found out yet or is this some bug that I'll just have to try and look over?
Thanks in advance for your help!

In column view, most of the edited tracks will stay gray, and arbitrarily revert to black. In the info panel the sort fields will nearly immediately fill again - and onlyfields with corresponding name, artist fields will be filled. I did not specify an album artist, so the sort album artist stays empty.

  • ITunes won't let me change song information and hangs up...

Using an 2010 iMac and iTunes 11.x I tried to change some song information as I did it for several years and iTunes versions.
Now it seems to be an installation error and the program hangs up if I try to open the information pop up.
The music plays on but nothing else can be done as to quit iTunes (hard quit).
A reinstallation doesn't had any impact, but I was not able to deinstall iTunes first (error message: ...this program is part of OS X and cannot be deleted...)
I also checked the hard disk and the right management, everything seems to be fine.
Has anybody an idea how to get iTunes de- and reinstalled completely?
I did not find an guide for that.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hey there skipperchong,
The other file that it could be is the iTunes library file.. The problem is. This containes all of your playlists, file locations, library info and various other things.
So we cant simply remove it and let the OS write a new fresh one like the other file.
What you would have to do is remove your entire library of itunes, delete the library file and reimport your music again, which will, in turn delete your playlists.
Are you on a Windows computer or a Mac?

  • ITUNES WON'T LET ME EDIT SONG INFORMATION!!!

I want to edit the song infomation. but when i go to Get info and the folder where the artist, album, track numbers, etc. it won't let me change any of that. how do i get rid of this because i can't manage any of my music

Make sure they are not read-only. You might also need to take ownership and full control in vista permissions.

  • ITunes Won't Let Me Change Location Of Itunes Music Folder

iTunes isn't letting me change the location of the folder iTunes folder. I don't want the iTunes folder to be in the default 'My Music' folder, I'd rather keep it in 'My Documents'. Problem is, everytime I change the location (I change it through edit>preferences>advanced btw) it just makes a new one under 'My Music' as soon as I restart iTunes.
I've tried making a copy of the original iTunes folder thats located in 'My Music', copying it to 'My Documents', changing the location under the iTunes preferences, and then deleting the 'My Music' version but after a restart I simply get it back. What gives?
Btw, I have both 'Keep songs organized' and 'Copy Songs' turned off.

It will be easier to resolve your problem if you can settle for moving the iTunes Music folder - the sub-folder that actually contains all your iTunes media files - and leave the iTunes folder alone, since iTunes will, as you have discovered, continue to recreate a new iTunes folder when one isn't present.
That being said, can you confirm that you're following the instructions in this article in the Apple Knowledge Base. (The same method appplies whether you're moving the iTunes Music folder to a different drive or a different location on the same drive.)
After moving it, iTunes will not recreate the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder.

  • Your email address has changed or is invalid -iTunes won't let me change it

Help. I've tried everything including logging a request with Apple iTunes support - through the usual means, filling out the online request form. Still to no avail.
The story goes like this, I changed my ISP about three weeks ago. I'm pretty sure my registered email address was the one from my old ISP. Oops!
So I go to buy an App or Music from iTunes, it tells me that my account has changed and I should view and change my details.
I go ahead and enter my valid email address. Press Done. No verification email arrives in my account. Nothing in the junk mail either.
No matter what I do, no matter which of my valid email addresses I enter - I have two. I can't get iTunes to accept my email change.
I have logged two requests for assistance now - with great replies of Apple Support Staff telling me how important I am and how my issue will be fixed ASAP. But, nothing yet. It's been almost a week. Getting quite disappointed with Apple iTunes support.

I am having this problem too. I recently changed ISP b/c I wanted the iPhone, so I had to update my iTunes username to my Gmail account.
In fact, I logged in HERE using it as my new Apple Id... so it works!
But for some **** reason that is driving me nuts my iPhone will not connect to the iTunes store using my new Apple Id. It keeps saying my email has changed or is invalid and asks me to sign in to change it. So I do that, and it lets me in USING MY NEW Apple ID!!!! Then I go back out to the buy the App and the madness starts all over.
Come on Apple, do you want me to buy your apps, or what?

  • ITunes won't let me edit artist information.

Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't.
What I'm talking about is... I have a lot of music without artist names, so when I click the blank space to edit the artist information... it does nothing.
But that's only on SOME. The others will let me.
I'm just wondering why some files won't let me, or if there was another way to edit the file information (Artist, Title, Album, etc...)
    Thanks,
    Pavo Loco

Right click on a problem track and then select show in windows explorer. Now you should be able to see the song file, right click on it and select properties. If the track is read only, read only will be checked in attributes. If it isn't, maybe you have a problem with folder permissions so that you don't have write access to the file.

  • My iTunes won't let me change my album art

I have uploaded some home made songs into itunes and it doesn't let me change the album art. I can click it and tick the box and press ok but nothing happens. someone please help me, I am very annoyed by this.

Can't help you there. My iTunes is actually deleting artwork and shoving genre, album name, artist, and song title all into the same space. And the iPod keeps it that way for all eternity.

The problem is that once I do that, I get an error message saying that "my ipod's preferences were not saved because 'it' could not be found"... What can I do?

  • ITunes won't let me edit CD and song information?

I've added some cd's to my library and iTunes won't let me edit song information or add artwork.

There is a much easier way of solving this rather than converting all of the tracks to AAC..
    1) Go to where the album folder is stored on your PC and right click on the folder.
    2) Click on properties and unselect the box that says 'read only'.  After clicking apply, click OK to confirm changes.
    3) Now iTunes should let you edit the song info and add artwork

  • I am trying to change my country but iTunes won't let me

iTunes won't let me buy from my original country as the credit card is invalid in that country.  When I try to change the country it keeps reverting back to the original country.  How do I change the country without opening a new iTunes account?

To buy items from an iTunes Store in another country you must have a valid credit card drawn on a local bank, and an address in the host country.
