ITunes won't let me drag songs from song list... trying to put them into a playlist.

When I click on a song, or select the whole list, and try to drag them toward the new playlist I created, nothing happens.  They don't drag.  I think my original itunes folder on my computer was messed up by one of my young children.  I haven't used itunes on this computer yet, this was my first time adding songs and when it didn't work I deleted the app and then reinstalled it from the apple website.
I truly appreciate anyone's help... High School Volleyball starts tomorrow and guess who has to burn a CD to rock the gym

You can only populate a smart playlist using the playlist's settings since that's what makes it smart.

  • ITunes won't let me drag and drop songs from library to my device.  Recently replaced the harddrive and have authorized it with iTunes.

Recently had to replace my harddrive on my PC and files were not recoverable from the failed drive.  Installed iTunes on the new drive and ripped some cd's into the library.  However, I cannot transfer these songs to any of our "i" devices in the house.  I authorized the new drive with iTunes and still no luck.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • GarageBand won't let me drag and drop songs into the timeline.

GarageBand won't let me drag and drop songs into the timeline.  It did before, now all of a sudden it won't... anyone know why?
I am dragging them from iTunes, and it has never been an issue before.  I have used AAC, MP3, and AIFF before and never had an issue.
Is there a setting possibly that I need to change?

Same with me, Lion is a cool OS but the updates iTunes has nothing but problems. I can't even drag song to my desktop. You can try finding the song through iTunes music folder but the song I wanted wasn't there. To get there look at this artical http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1391. to help you find that song.

  • ITunes won't let me drag and drop music

I have converted files from YouTube to mp3 and then put them in my iTunes library... but iTunes won't let me put them into my phone. I have manually manage music selected and it has allowed me to do so in the past (maybe 2 weeks ago). I'm just really frustrated now because I don't like syncing my entire library because iTunes somehow manages to forget the majority of my music's artwork which is important since I paid for all but 3 of the songs in my library. Help?

Also, you may have to do this since the iPod may think the rebuilt computer is a new computer/iTunes library. Otherwise, you will only be able to manage videos and music manually.

  • ITunes won't let me edit CD and song information?

I've added some cd's to my library and iTunes won't let me edit song information or add artwork.

There is a much easier way of solving this rather than converting all of the tracks to AAC..
    1) Go to where the album folder is stored on your PC and right click on the folder.
    2) Click on properties and unselect the box that says 'read only'.  After clicking apply, click OK to confirm changes.
    3) Now iTunes should let you edit the song info and add artwork

Has anyone got a script to read a list of email addresses from a Mail message header and put them into a group in Contacts?

Now Tony, I know you can't hear my tone on a forum post but I was not complaining, simply stating facts . This change brought several people in my office to a grinding halt in a long established workflow that is really rather simple (and I thought was already assumed from the original post above ):
    1) Select a set of records in FileMaker Pro 12 and export only their e-mail addresses as a CSV file.
    2) Open that CSV file in Excel.
    3) Copy the column of e-mail address.
    4) paste into the appropriate recipient field in Mail.
    5) Send
If I were to complain it would be about Apple's typically opaque approach to updates. There is no granular explanation of why changes were made or even "what" changes were made.
Complaining is futile since Apple is Apple and is unlikely to change, but sometimes it is cathartic to "shout into the void" .
I had thought about doing something with a formula in Excel and your suggestion was simple and helpful. Again, however, it is only a workaround for a long established helpful behavior that Apple has inexplicably broken/removed in Mavericks Mail.
I, and the other posters here, would love to have the capability back rather than have to add previously unneeded steps to our workflows.
Ultimately we may add scripting steps to the FileMaker side to export the address lists with commas inserted already if Apple ends up having permanently removed this feature.

  • ITunes won't let me drag and drop anymore

Last friday, I closed my Macbook and it never started again. I bought a new one. The guy at the Mac Store said, "Just plug in your iPhone, enter your pw, and everything will work like it used to." Of course, I left the store thinking, "No way is that going to happen," but I didn't stay and fight. Of course, I plugged in my iPhone, immidately my Mac started saying, "You do not have sufficient permissions." To get rid of it, I read a post that said I should select to sync and then unsync everything from the phone (which deleted everything of course, but I'm not that upset about). Anyhow, the iPhone syncs now, but the lingering issue is that my old computer let me drag and drop MP3 files directly from my Finder window to the iPhone music library in iTunes. I DID NOT HAVE TO USE THE ITUNES LIBRARY AND I DID NOT HAVE TO CREATE PLAYLISTS. (I hate people who capitolize things, but I've read in several other posts where people say, "That was never possible to drag and drop, you always had to create playlists." No, you did not. I gurantee you because I've never done it). To state it just once more, I did NOT load the songs into iTunes, then go from iTunes to the iPhone, but instead, with iTunes open, and the iPhone plugged it, I would select the mp3 in the Finder window, then drag it to the part of iTunes which allows me access to the iPhone, and the iPhone section of iTunes (not the main iTunes library on my Macbook, but the iPhone itself) would become highlighted in blue, then I would release the trackpad and the song would load onto the iPhone (but never be associated with or loaded into the iTunes library for my Macbook).
Now when I drag the mp3 over, the iPhone section stays gray and won't let me do it.
How can I fix this? I detest iTunes. I'd be in love with Apple completely if it weren't for iTunes, which is constantly broken and never works. I'm happy with my music stored in my own filing mechanism, with my own method of tagging them, and I don't want to conform, I don't want to "get used to it."
Please someone tell me how to fix this! (Before it messes up my iPad as well).
PS... Of course, in the time my computer broke and I bought the new one, Apple released yet another updated version of iTunes, which they forced me to update before I could even use it. So, I don't know if the phone didn't sync over correctly or the update didn't work.

Oh, also want to add that the PC I'm currently using is:
Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2
    My other PC was:
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    My MacBook is:
Max OSX 10.5.something (the last update available for it. .8 maybe? haha)
Not sure if this stuff is important, but I thought I'd add it.

  • My Itunes won't let me buy apps or songs, and I can't even download the free ones

Hello.  I have an iphone 5.  Iv'e had it scince May of 2013 (this year).  I really haven't had any problems before with Itunes, but I can't buy songs or apps, and I cannot even download the free apps!  I have recently got an Itunes gift card for Christmas, and I put it into my Iphone, and Itunes says I have the money from the gift card.  I started to notice this when I was my grandparent's house a few days ago for Christmas, and it wouldn't let me get an app, even though it was free.  I thought it was because of a diffent type of WiFi or because I was at a different place, but when I got home, it still wasn't working.  Whenever I try to buy or download something, it says, "Verification Info."  I click continue, and it says that I need to buy money with a credt card, even though I have money in my account!  This has also happend to my sister (she has an iphone 4).  Please help!

    Hi there,
The current file type is a VLC media file (.flac) (.flac), 34MB. I have never had any trouble adding music before, I have always been able to simply drag them into itunes and they have transferred perfectly so I don't have any idea what has changed.
iTunes does not support FLAC. The formats supported by iTunes are -
AAC, MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
In addition it is possible to import unprotected WMA files and during the import iTunes will make a new converted version (usually in AAC format).
If you are using iTunes on a Mac there is a complicated unofficial method that will let you add FLAC files in to iTunes but this is not possible with iTunes for Windows.
It is possible to use Apple Lossless in iTunes (as listed above this is officially supported) and use the same Apple Lossless files in Windows Media Player, Microsoft MediaCenter, foobar, WinAmp, dbPoweramp, VLC, and many others. Some of these need free plugins to add support for Apple Lossless but to illustrate it is possible, I have all my music in Apple Lossless (in iTunes), and share the same files with WMP and Microsoft MediaCenter.

  • Itunes won't let me drag-n-drop .m4r files into the 'TONES' library (for ringtones)

Can anyone help?  I have created ringtones by converting my song to AAC, then shortening it to 40 seconds, then saving it as .m4r file extention.  I have changed my preferences to show "Tones" library in my iTunes.  Only problem is, iTunes won't accept the ringtone when I try to add it.  I tried to add it by grabbing it from Finder and dropping it into iTunes...but nothing adds???  Any suggestions?

In order to drag and drop, you need to have the box next to "Manually manage..." on the iPad summary pane checked.
This was changed (in V 10.0?)
Items dragged to the iPad/iPod will still get copied over, even when not manually managing.
Select the tabs across top and the dragged items show up at the very bottom under *Manually added*.

  • ITunes Won't Let Me Make Ringtones of Songs That Are Listed to Work...

I bought Stadium Arcadium when it came out a year and a half ago on the iTunes store. Today I checked and it said the songs on it can be made into ringtones.
So I click on "Wet Sand" in my library, click "Store", then "Create Ringtone...". I got a message saying "'Wet Sand' by Red Hot Chili Peppers can no longer be made into a ringtone."
So I click on the little arrow next to "Wet Sand" in my music library and it gives me a new error message: "Stadium Arcadium will be available in the store on May 08, 2038."
Now what is up with that? The album is already in the store and will let me buy songs from it, but I don't want to because I already BOUGHT the CD; I just want to make ringtones out of it. So is this a common problem? And what do I do to fix it?

Im having the same problem.....they need to fix it ASAP I really dont want to buy my entire library over again

It wants to erase your iPhone because you are not syncing it to the same library.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
iCloud only stores a copy of your non-iTunes purchases if you subscribe to Match. It still isn't the best way to get your music to a new computer.  That's
(if you use iTunes' default preferences settings):  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.

  • I have my iMovies in QuickTime format on an external drive. Is there anyway to show them from the external drive without putting them into iTunes?

I havei my personal iMovies in QuickTime format on an external drive. I prefer not to have to import them into my iTunes library which is nearly 1GB already. Is there any way to play them from my MacBook Pro through Apple TV 2 without importing them into iTunes?

Just wanted to add a little to the excellent comments from those above... I have debated on adding the content to iTunes or just accessing the content through some folder structure.
What has worked best for me and my family:
use VideoDrive - http://www.aroona.net/VideoDrive/Home.html to import the videos/tvshows into iTunes and make them in the correct format for my iPad/iPhone/AppleTV devices in the house. This software is cheap and excellent and make the adding of content to iTunes (i everything) easy!
I store my videos on a usb 2tb drive and my tvshows on a different usb 2tb drive. And I swap a drive out every year or so and give old drive away to family/friends. That way my media drives are new(ish) and 1 drive is never older than 2 years.
for media that I don't want to add to iTunes I still use AirVideo as it is an excellent piece of software. I also use AirVideo to allow me to access content on my home network over the internet.
my "media server" is a simple 4 year old intel mac mini with 1 gig of ram best $700 I spent when I first flipped to all things mac. Family now have 2 mbp's, 2 iPads, 4 iphones and 1atv (2nd gen)
I'm working on a document that shows how I did my setup - if you want to read more please feel free to download my preview - https://files.me.com/lee.gaupp/aq0gst

  • My iTunes won't let me drag a ringtone from my library to my iPhone

I used RingMaker to make a ringtone from a song I had on my phone. Everything went fine until I tried to drag the ringtone from my iTunes Library to my iPhone Ringtones.

Findthe file icon, right-click, and choose Open With > iTunes.
If the file is compatible, it will be added to your library and start playing.
If "nothing happens," the file is not compatible with iTunes.
In the latter case, if you are sure it is a valid MP3, it may have minor coorruption that can be cleaned up with a tag repair program.
