ITunes won't let me import audio files to my library

I try and drag a song from my music file into iTunes and it just doesn't do anything. I've also tried File > Add file to library but that still doesn't work.
It doesn't give any sort of error or anything. Just doesn't do anything at all.

That is the usual reaction when iTunes encounters a file that it finds to be incompatible. Assuming it is a valid MP3 that works in other players, the problem can usually be corrected by treating with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as MP3 Validator.

hey for some reason iTunes won't let me import some songs, but it will others. I've checked and there is no difference between the songs, they're both MP3's, they have the same quality and they're even by the same artist!
Any ideas why and how I can fix it are helpful.

I having the same problem. I noticed that some videos were missing from my itunes TV Shows playlist. Also, when I tried downloading a file into my ipod, I got an error message stating that the file was not compatiable with my iPod. Only I got the file from iTunes! I've tried deleting everything and reloading with the same results. It will not upload several files. Most of which are already AAC. I've tried adding, importing, and copy and paste with all resulting in failure.
This is becoming a total pain in the rear. If it's not one thing, it's another. I mean every since iTunes 7, the bugs keep mounting, and that before I switch to a Vista OS.

For some unknown reason, Itunes won't let me edit Audio info

So I recently synced 1891 songs to my iPhone 5. Whilst the process was completed successfully I noticed where in my itunes library all of the artists were organised accordingly. But suddenly, due to some kind of idiotic magic a lot of my music had missing information/wrong information. Oh well, this happens I thought placidly believing that all I had to do was fix the info myself. But lo and behold for some unknown reason Itunes won't let me edit any of the info of the music on my Iphone 5. Why? I don't know. But I know for a fact that none of the music is "Read-Only" because I check and I did the same process with the same files on a different computer. My new computer (currently using) is authorized and everything seems to be in order, I have no idea why this isn't working but some help would be appreciated. Please. I'm sick of having to read forum after forum after doing the simplest things on Itunes, please someone from Apple answer my question with efficiency, or create a less convulted program

Sounds like the ID3 tags are messed up on those songs.
iTunes imports using v2.2 tags. Convert the tags to v2.3 and try adding the artwork.
Right-click > convert ID3 tags
Also, make sure they are not read-only files.

ITunes won't add or import new files

I am running mountain lion 10.8.2 and my system is fully updated.I have my itunes library on an external drive but I am unable to add new files to iTunes. I have tried dragging and dropping and the plus appears and when I release the files I get the color wheel for several seconds but it does not get added. The same happens when I try going through the menu and cmd+O. I can download new items from iTunes but nothing can be imported. I am at my wits end and can't figure out what is going on.

Update: this appears to be the solution, though not for the faint-hearted. The problem was a bad iTunes Library.itl file.

This solution worked for me, but my Time Machine let me down and I had to go back to a much earlier library file.

Importing Audio Files to SFX library .wav .aif .aiff mp3 PLEASE HELP

I apologize in advance if this has already been answered but could not find it in the forum and Tech support advised me to ask here.
I need to import some sound effect files into iMovie 'library'. I have tried everything but no luck. Even tried doing it thru Garageband. I downloaded these .wav, .aif .aiff.mp3 files from mostly from the http://www.freesound.org/forum/profile.php and then right clicked in downloads window to locate on disk and saved them in my Music folder but when I try to open them in iMovie they are not there. Any ideas?

Thank you very much for your reply, I did copy the folder from the DVD to my hard disk and I checked that the Universal track mode is enabled. The audio files on the DVD are two mono files, one left and one right. for example I have two piano files as follow: Piano _03.L.wav and Piano _03.R.wav
when I copied the Piano _03.L.wav to logic it appeared Piano _03#1.L in the arrange window and it shows the stereo symbol on the audio region for it. when I try and copy the Piano _03.R.wav it appears Piano _03#2.L and it shows the stereo symbol as well. I am really confused!!

Itunes won't let me import any CDs

I have had an ipod (not the same ipod, but an ipod)for 3 years now. Never in that whole time have I ever had this problem.
A few days ago I got a CD that I wanted to import. i have done this too many times to count. When I went to do it, it asked if I wanted to import it and, as usual, I said yes. As soon as I did, there was a bit of a delay, and then a window popped up saying that Itunes had stopped working and needed to close. I didn't think much of it and I went to try again. It did the same thing. It did it again and again and again; i must have tried it 50 times. Then I went into Windows Media Player and it let me do it successfully. Yes! Success, right? Wrong. I went to "add a file" in itunes and clicked on the file i wanted (again, i had done this tons of times) and it said it needed to convert, which i knew, so i said yes to this conversion and then the same window that came up all those times before appeared again. I tried to import a different CD, thinking maybe it was just that one, but it wasn't. It has happened with at least 5 different CDs i have tried and I am SO irritated, I have no idea what is wrong. Please help me!
I have asked several people I know who have lots of experiance with itunes and they have all said to get into and then close itunes, and i've done that (over and over again, may i add) and it has nothing to do with that. Someone said it was somethign with the conversion with windows media player; it doesn't work even without converting! no one is giving me any information i need and now i'm starting to worry it's something wrong with my computer. then again, it works with WMP so who knows. please help!!!

We'd better check your version number, lynz. In iTunes, go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom.
If you've got an iTunes 10.1.0.54, we need to get you updated to 10.1.0.56. It won't show for you in Apple Software update if you already have a 10.1.54 installed, so download the 10.1.0.56 installer from the Apple Website, as per the following document:

Newbie, Help! iTunes won't play or import random files - no error message

Have a large library of MP3 files created with Real Audio. All played well in Real Audio or Windows Player. I did a complete unintall of Real Audio, installed ITunes, and while it accepts some of the songs(files), it doesn't accept others. It seems utterly random. There are no differences between the files. All are legit. I do not get an error message, but NOTHING happens no matter what method I employ to play or import the song/file. Have compared file attributes via properties and there is no difference. Itunes is the default player, and I have not reinstalled Real Audio. I just listen to the songs on computer while working, but thought I would try Itunes and get an IPod. Not off to a very good start.

I suppose Real Audio was used, though for sometime I used Iomega to store them on zip disks. It has been a long time. For the CD's that I have on hand, I have been doing what you suggested. This is not easy, as the old files were just all together in one file, and while I thought I had changed settings so that iTunes would do the same (after learning that iTunes puts things in lots of different folders - especially confusing for me with soundtracks with different artists)the last one I did was put in folders entitled unknown/unknown with only track numbers. And if I change anything using explorer, I have to find each file for iTunes again. I'm still struggling, not understanding how these mp3 files are different in some way. Some are from the same CD's. At any rate, now that I am (found your term) ripping these CD's again, is there a way to avoid all the folders and layers of folders? Thank you for your patience. Itunes won't let me import songs anymore

When i first got my ipod and itunes it was all good. I had imported over a thousand song on my ipod. Now whenever I try to import a song from a cd or already on my computer an error comes up saying "An unkown error occured [-223]". Newest version of Itunes won't let me import CDs

I recently installed the newest version of Itunes (10.6.1). Now every time I open it, I get the message: "Itunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs you will have to reinstall Itunes." I have to click OK, and then Itunes opens. Also, all the music I have previously imported from CDs is listed under "unknown Album," without artist or track number information. However, I do still have the files in My Music.
Possible related issues: I wanted to install the latest version because Itunes was not recognizing my ipod. I did have some trouble with the install; something about Windows not recognizing this download as safe, even though I got it from apple.com. I proceeded anyway. I have also had trouble with Itunes taking up too much space on my computer, and having to split my library between my C and D drives. In addition, my computer is 6 years old.
I am going to try to install Itunes again; is there anything I can do to make sure it works this time, i.e. recognizes all of my imported music?

This worked for me:
Find your added songs in your playlists (you'll find them there)
Select them
Right click and 'Make version for MP3'
As a little miracle you'll now find the album in your album and number-tab.
The album now contains two versions of each song. Delete one and the album remains.

IMovie won't let me import video files

I have been trying to import MPEG video files from a disc into iMovie and every time I try to do this the Optimizing Video box pops up and nothing happens (I then have to force iMovie to shut down). What can I do to get my video files imported into iMovie? Thanks for the help!

iMovie cannot handle mpeg files.
You need to convert thoe files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

I am trying to import some jpg pics off my camera to iphoto. (Version 9). I am doing nothing different than I did the last time I imported them to iphoto. I only have about 250 pictures on my computer, so I know it's not full. The only thing that was done different was that my child imported them to another account on the computer. I have since moved them to my account with the sharing feature. I formatted my camera's memory card, and took about 3 pictures. Even those pictures I still get the error: The following files are in an unrecognizable format. Can someone please help??

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

ITunes won't let me drag and drop songs from library to my device. Recently replaced the harddrive and have authorized it with iTunes.

Recently had to replace my harddrive on my PC and files were not recoverable from the failed drive. Installed iTunes on the new drive and ripped some cd's into the library. However, I cannot transfer these songs to any of our "i" devices in the house. I authorized the new drive with iTunes and still no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

My iTunes won't let me drag a ringtone from my library to my iPhone

I used RingMaker to make a ringtone from a song I had on my phone. Everything went fine until I tried to drag the ringtone from my iTunes Library to my iPhone Ringtones.

Findthe file icon, right-click, and choose Open With > iTunes.
If the file is compatible, it will be added to your library and start playing.
If "nothing happens," the file is not compatible with iTunes.
In the latter case, if you are sure it is a valid MP3, it may have minor coorruption that can be cleaned up with a tag repair program.

Indesign won't let me drag in files from the library

I did this fine on a mac, but on my windows Vista using CS4, I cannot drag with my mouse from the .indl library file. I get the locked symbol when I try.
I have restarted Indesign and reset my preferences but still no luck. I have no idea why this is happening. Can anyone help me?

The first question is: can you use Place Item from the Library panel to place the same items?
If not, there's something wrong with your library file.
If so, there's something wrong with dragging/dropping.
Could it be that you have two copies of the same library open? That can happen after a crash. It can result in this kind of mysterious behavior.

Premier won't let me import a simple AVI file? Says "unsupported or damaged file." Help!

I did a 3d animation in 3ds max and I rendered it as an AVI, per my instructor, and then tried to import it into Premier to be able to add audio and edit it a little. When I try to import any of the files (I had three different cameras in 3ds max so I rendered 3 different AVI's) it just says "Unsupported or damaged file" for all three of them. The files play just fine in media player and work everywhere else on the computer, but stupid premier won't let me import! What should I do? I'm worried if I convert it to another file type that it'll destroy the compression. This is for a class and we have to have a very specific file size and type. Please help me!
P.S. I'm not very good with code and programming, I don't know what a CODEC or a wrapper or any of that stuff is, please just give me suggestions of what to do and how to do it. Thanks so much!
