ITunes won't let me move ringtone to iPhone

Hi all,
My Mom has recently upgraded her iMac.  Since then, she has wanted to put a new ringtone on her iPhone.  I've tried to walk her through the steps (creating the .m4r, etc.) and she wasn't able to do it.  So, since I happen to be over for the holidays, I thought I would give it a go.  And now, I have found out why she's got problems... but I don't know the solution.
I've checked on the "Tones" tab on the iPhone listed on the left side of iTunes and I noticed that the "Synch Tones" was not checked.  So, I checked it.  And now, this is the message I'm getting:
"The iPhone “XX XX’s iPhone” is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?
An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."  (Cancel) or (Erase and Synch) are the two options.
Now, there is no music on the iPhone (it's all saved on the iTouch and Nano) but there are about 300 photos.  If I choose (Erase and Synch) will I lose anything from the iPhone or from iTunes?  My guess is no... and that it won't touch the photos on the iPhone.  My guess is that it won't erase anything (as there is no music to erase on the iPhone), but that it will transfer the entire iTunes Library onto the iPhone (which I don't want to do either, but I can remove that, I assume).
Can someone varify for me that clicking on the (Erase and Synch) will NOT delete the iPhone photos?  I know they're backed up somewhere, but I'm just trying to figure this out for her before I leave.
Thanks very much and Happy 2013!
...Stacy

A reply to an old problem, but I couldn't find this solution anywhere. I had the same problem when I moved my iTunes library to an external drive. As Apple recommends, I used File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Files to copy my music files from my overstuffed hard drive to the external drive. Copying went fine for a while, adding about two-thirds of my files to the new drive without incident. Then I got the big stop sign with the error message: "Copying files failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
This turned out to have nothing to do with either the hard drive or the external disk. I had a bad file in my music library that was shutting down the consolidation process. Unfortunately the error message says nothing about which file may be the culprit. All I could think to do was to go back to my original library in iTunes and sort by Artist, select all cuts with artists beginning with A, right click and select "Consolidate Files". Then do the same with B artists, etc. Proceeding this way, files resumed copying but when I got to the "S" selections, the consolidate process failed again. Then I selected smaller and smaller batches until the problem file was identified. Removed it from my library and then Consolidate worked fine through the rest of the library. Problem solved.
I spent several days working through this; hope I can save someone else the time.

  • Windows 8 itunes won't let me add anything to iphone

windows 8 itunes won't let me add anything to iphone..apple community doesn't list the iphone as a product registered under my apple id, but the phone is listed on my authorized devices.  any ideas? and do i need to get it to show as a registered product?

I have the same problem. I can't sync any apps or music on my iphone. I can't sync any music purchased through itunes on my ipod. I haven't even tried connecting my ipad for fear that it'll mess that up as well. I try to authorize my macbook but I get an error. The weird thing is that I am able to still play all of my purchased music through itunes so it seems that the authorization is at least somehow partially recognized.

  • Itunes won't let me move songs?

When I try and move a list of songs from my iPod, to a newly created playlist it won't let me do it? Can anyone shed any light?
    Thanks
Btw, I am on a Mac Book Pro Retina, latest updates on everything. If that makes a difference?

iTunes only lets you move items purchased from the iTunes Store from an i-device to a computer.  You can copy anything the other way.

  • ITunes Won't Let Me Make Ringtones of Songs That Are Listed to Work...

I bought Stadium Arcadium when it came out a year and a half ago on the iTunes store. Today I checked and it said the songs on it can be made into ringtones.
So I click on "Wet Sand" in my library, click "Store", then "Create Ringtone...". I got a message saying "'Wet Sand' by Red Hot Chili Peppers can no longer be made into a ringtone."
So I click on the little arrow next to "Wet Sand" in my music library and it gives me a new error message: "Stadium Arcadium will be available in the store on May 08, 2038."
Now what is up with that? The album is already in the store and will let me buy songs from it, but I don't want to because I already BOUGHT the CD; I just want to make ringtones out of it. So is this a common problem? And what do I do to fix it?

Im having the same problem.....they need to fix it ASAP I really dont want to buy my entire library over again

  • ITunes won't let me move files to new hard drive

Hey, all...I'm having a really major problem with my computer. I'm trying to move my iTunes library to a new hard drive. Currently, it's in a 1-terabyte Western Digital USB drive powered through the USB, and I'm trying to move it to a Seagate 1-terabyte drive. I currently have 535 gigabytes of media in my library and I have a MacBook with a 250-GB hard drive that I don't store any music on currently.
I move the library file over to the new USB hard drive, and I consolidate my library as it asks me to do. Then, when I go down to "Organize library", it prepares to copy the files to the new disk, then gives me the big red stop sign and tells me "The disk cannot be read from or written to." and that's that. The files work fine when I try to play them, so they're there, and presumably, not irretrievably damaged. They're just impossible to move.

How can I get it to let me put them all into a folder and create unique names? If I do one file at a time, it gives me the option to keep both files. But not when I am moving hundreds at a time.

AFTER recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?

how to update Ipad 2 from IOS 4.3.5 to IOS 5? Itunes won't let me do it because it keeps showing error messages asking me to check if my network is active.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.1.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 7.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
     Cheers, Tom

It depends on what iPhone you have.
If it's an iPhone 4S or earlier, click here.
If it's an iPhone 5, you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and that requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB RAM.

Syncing music via iTunes is only one way: from iTunes to your iPod.  If you need to copy the music from your iPod back to your PC, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to do this.
