Itunes won't let me transfer tunes to my iPod touch

Itunes has stopped transferring music to my iPod touch even though I have enough room on it . I can still transfer to my ipad though , this has been going on fro two weeks and is very frustrating . I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it several times but it makes no difference . I am using windows 7 . Sometimes on start up I get a message which tells me that itunes is not communicating with my ipod properly and gives me an option to try and fix it but even though I press ok , nothing changes . Please help I am going stark staring mad

- Try another cable unless the other device works OK witht he same cable
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • ITunes won't let me transfer songs to my iPod

iTunes used to let me transfer songs fine, but now it transfers a few and then tells me the file is "corrupt" and that the disc "cannot be read from or written to." Please help -- restoring the iPod hasn't worked at all!

  • Itunes won't let me delete items on my Ipod Touch

I am trying to delete songs on my newly purchased Ipod Touch, and Itunes instructions say to:
Connect your iPod to your computer.
When the iPod icon appears in iTunes, select it.
If the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod is closed, click it so that you can see the iPod contents.
Select the item you want to delete and press the Delete key.
However when I click the disclosure triangle the contents of my Ipod are grayed out in Itunes, and I cannot delete or otherwise manipulate the contents. How can I get Itunes to allow me to manipulate items on my Ipod Touch?
Also I have some songs thats were imported from Windows Media Player that had Album artwork. When I tranfered to Itunes the album artwork disappeared and when I press "Get Album Artwork", Itunes can't find the artwork (I've never had this problem with Window Media Player).
I've tried manually dragging and dropping artwork into the blank album covers in Itunes to no avail. How can I add new Cover Art to Itunes, and then tranfer it my Ipod touch?

Hello, and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
for you to be able to add and delete songs, you need to enable "Manually Manage" on your iPod. Click on it as described, on the right check the little box on the bottom of the General tab. Or, if you still want the sync to be automatic, tell iTunes which playlists to sync on the Music tab. I find this to be much more convenient, as any changes in these playlists will automatically reflect on the iPod.
As for the artwork, mark all the songs from one album, right-click -> Get Info and paste the artwork in its field.
    Hope this helps.

  • TS1538 iTunes won't let me sync!  3rd gen ipod touch

My iPod touch 3rd gen is seen by windows, seen by itunes, but when I click on the device on the sidebar to bring up the information, it just says "ipod" where my music selection usually is.  Just a big frustrating white screen that won't let me do anything.  I've spent the last hour going through all Apples troubleshooting and still nothing.  Re-installed the drivers; started and stopped apple mobile device whatever, went through EVERY SINGLE STEP listed here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1410 and nothing.  Reset my computer, restarted the device multiple times, restarted itunes, disonnected, re-connected, held both home and sleep button past the "turn off device" screen, nothing.  Any idea's on why this doesn't work now that I've done a factory reset?

You should have all of your music on the new computer, assuming you have used your backup copy to put the music on the new computer.
When you sync, it will erase the ipod and put the content from the new computer on the ipod ( which should be the same, since it came from your backup copy).

  • Out of no where, itunes won't let me add music to my ipod touch.

I have itunes 10.4.1 and ipod is 4.2.1. Please help, this is so frustrating! It won't let me drag and drop and it won't work by right clicking either.

I had a similar problem recently after an update. Midway through the update, I got a user error that said I had to wipe the device and restore to factory settings. After I did that, I restored from a recent back up. When I did that it would not allow me to add recently purchased music to playlists on the device. I could not figure out how to fix this anywhere. Finally, in iTunes  I clicked on my iTouch on the list on the right. Then in the big box on the left I clicked on summary. Then I scrolled to the bottom where "Options" was displayed. I clicked on "Manually manage music and videos" and then "apply". Suddenly, I could add music to my established playlists on my device! Hooray! Perhaps this happened to you and that box is unchecked? Good luck.

  • Help!! Itunes won't let me downgrade on my 2g ipod touch. Can anyone help?

I just got a macally microphone for the ipod touch and I found out that it's not compatible with the 3.1.3 firmware. So I have to downgrade to the 3.0 Firmware in order for the mic to work. But that's the problem, it won't let me downgrade at all! I tried holding in shift, then pressing restore. That didn't work. Every time I try to downgrade it says "The ipod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (20)" Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you actually have the 3.0 FW on your computer, you may be able to downgrade by first putting your Touch into "DFU Mode", then use the Shift-Restore technique to select the 3.0 OS file. I won't go into the DFU Mode instructions here, plenty of explanations around here and the web in general. Note that this is not a practice supported by Apple.

  • HELP! iTunes won't let me put music on my iPod

I need help, whenever i try to transfer my music on to my iPod, for itunes, it won't let me put it on my iPod.
    I NEED HELP!!!!!
      Windows XP

    Okay, I see.
That's most likely because you are automatically syncing your iPod.
If you click on your iPod in the Source List of iTunes, and go to the "Music" tab, you are probably selected for "Sync", and either selected playlists, or all songs.
On the Syncing optoin, you cannot drag files to your iPod without setting up your iPod for manually managing, perhaps just temporarily.
See this for details on manually managing your iPod:

  • Itunes won't let me transfer new music to my iPhone 4S

I recently had an issue with Filevault and unfortunately had to have my Macbook Pro wiped clean. I have yet to transfer all of my old files from my external hard drive back on to my computer, but since then have downloaded some new music. I have been trying to sync my iPhone 4S with my computer in order to transfer music on to my phone through iTunes for the past few days and it just won't let me. I have tried troubleshooting using a few websites, and have made sure that allowing iTunes to automatically sync when I plug in my iPhone through a USB port is checked. I really would like to put new music on my phone. Please help!

    Hi there elliephantttt!
Sometimes the most reliable way to sync your phone with your computer will be through a manual sync. You can set up your computer to manage your phone this way by following the steps in this article:

Hope that helps you sync with your computer! Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • ITunes won't let me transfer some of my music to my iphone

Hopefully someone can help me with this issue: I have recently had to rebuild my entire library (lesson learnt:always do a back up), however since doing that back up my iTunes has decided to pick and choose what I can put on my iPhone.  For example: I had an album on the phone that had no artwork so i wanted to transfer the new version with the artwork but iTunes won't sync it with the phone yet it did for other albums. All my music is working fine in iTunes.
I have the 'Manage Music Manually' box ticked and have always done that with my phone and iPod but now I'm running into problems.
Both my iTunes and iPhone are up to date.
P.S. My OS on mt laptop is Windows 7
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help

LadyLaRee, I can understand how losing contacts can be frustrating! First, which Android do you have? If you have numbers from Facebook, those cannot be edited because the information is coming from the user's Facebook profile. Also, your contacts from Yahoo may only have the email address which is why it is showing that way. They would need to update the number on their profile. The settings will vary by phone, but if you open your contacts, press the Menu button, you will normally have options for View or something similar. You can select which contact groups you want to show or not. Verify which options are checked. You can deselect Facebook or Yahoo if you choose. You will also have an option to only display contacts with phone numbers.

  • ITunes won't let me transfer apps from my PC to my iPod touch, how do I fix this?

I paid for several apps on my Windows PC and iTunes isn't allowing me to transfer my purchases onto my iPod Touch (iOS 5.1.1), the red symbol telling me it's not possible to transfer my purchase appears every time I attempt to add an app to my iPod, regardless of the app (has been tested on a number of apps, not including the ones I wish to transfer).
Has this happened to anyone else? Could anyone shed some light on the situation and help me in fixing this problem, please?

Are you trying to manual add apps over to the device?  If so, that's not possible, as they can only be synced. See this article for more information and assistance on syncing apps to your iPod from iTunes.

Also check to make sure restrictions having been enabled for installing Apps.  To check, head to Settings -> General -> Restrictions.

  • Itunes won't start when i plug in my ipod Touch

When I plug my iPod Touch into my computer iTunes will not launch.
I have iTunes version 9.0.3.15 and Windows Vista Pro.
I checked in services and "iTunesHelper.exe" ; "Apple Mobile Device" ; "iPod Service" are all started and set to automatic
Under OPTIONS in the summary tab within iTunes "Open iTunes when this iPod is attached" is greyed out and I am not able to select it.
What am I missing that keeps iTunes from opening on its own?

Under OPTIONS in the summary tab within iTunes "Open iTunes when this iPod is attached" is greyed out and I am not able to select it.
Good Lord. I'm not sure that I've ever seen this hit someone in quite this context, but that's consistent with a blown-out iTunes preferences file (a greyed-out option that can't be selected).
Before messing with your preference files, I think we'd better check to see if this is a user-account specific problem. (There's a different set of iTunes preferences files in each Vista user account ... so if it's a blown-out pref file causing your issue in the usual user account, you should be able to get iTunes launching when an ipod is plugged in in a different user account.)
From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
Open Add or remove user accounts (If using the Classic View in Windows Vista, open User Accounts. Then open Manage another account).
Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process. (Give the new user account full administrative rights.)
Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu. Log into the newly created user account. (Don't use fast user switching to move between accounts.)
Open iTunes in the new user account. The iTunes setup assistant will run. Don't add any files when prompted ... just let her open eventually to an empty library.
Now go "Edit > Preferences". Click the "Devices" tab. Check the "Prevent ipods and iphones from syncing automatically" box. Click OK.
Now quit iTunes. Stay in the new user account. Plug the Touch in. *(Do not associate the Touch with the empty library!)*
Does iTunes launch for you? Or do you get the same trouble as in the usual user account?

  • Hi I've purchased music but itunes won't let me transfer it to my iphone. This has happened since the last update and is happening to my brothers iphone also on his laptop. any suggestions?

    HI there,
my laptop recenty went kaput and needed a new hardrive which was installed. When I got it back I downloaded itunes again and then bought some music. I connected my iphone and it would not allow me to transfer the music over to the iphone at all. It allowed me to pull all the music on my phone over to the itunes list which I realised at that point did have my usual music list on it. I can't seem to transfer any music purchased over to my iphone for love or money. This is happening to my brother on his itunes account also and he said it's happened since the last update on his. Any suggestions - I'm quite desperate as this is driving me nuts.
    Many thanks,
    Sarah

    Plug in phone to computer.
in iTunes click on your device and then Music Tab.
Deselect the playlist in question, and click sync
    Try your sync again

  • ITunes won't let me transfer all of the songs on my iPod to my library!

Okay, I have had an iTunes account & iPod on a desktop computer for the past 3 years that my parents set up. (I get a monthly allowance that's linked to my parent's credit card.) I just downloaded iTunes onto my new laptop (this computer), and followed instructions to transfer my music from my iPod to my laptop library. It only worked for about half of my songs, and told me that this computer (the laptop) was not authorized to play the songs that had not transferred. I re-authorized the computer, to no avail. Anyone able to help?
(Also, on my iTunes display, there is no "shopping cart", just "store" and "purchased". Why is this?)
