ITunes won't open at home... Quicktime/iTunes compatibility?

My laptop was configured by work IT and when I'm docked at work I can open iTunes no problem. At home, it won't open! I guess the Quicktime message telling me to uninstall and reinstall iTunes, which I've done, but still nothing. I'm on a Dell laptop that runs Windows 7. Ideas?

Is that a -2096 message, draik?
If so, that one is often a compatibility mode problem. Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

  • ITunes won't open due to Quicktime error

I recently updated iTunes, and iTunes won't open. It says
"Quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quicktime version 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes."
Well, I tried redownloading iTunes and just the latest Quicktime, but I keep getting the message.
I tried clearing my temp files but nothing else will work. Do I have to uninstall iTunes completely, and if so, what do I do about my library?

"Quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quicktime version 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes."
let's try swapping out your QuickTime again. we'll take a few additional explicit precautions this time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Itunes won't open due to quicktime problem

    hi
i have recently moved my itunes library from my old computer to a new laptop. the promblem is, when i tried to open itunes, it said there were files missing so i uninstalled it and the reinstalled it. but then it said, check that my quicktime was properly installed.
does anyone know how i can fix this problem?
    thanks.

let's start by trying a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • ITunes Won't Open Because of Quicktime

I have a computer with Windows 7 Pro and I can't get iTunes to work correctly on it.  I was getting an error message that was saying that iTunes couldn't open because Quicktime wasn't installed.  However, quicktime is installed and working properly.  I've uninstalled everything related to apple and reinstalled it, and after doing that, iTunes worked, but today I started getting the same error message.  I'm not sure what the issue is because there doesn't seem to be an issue with Quicktime.

I'm going through the SAME ****. I install Itunes and quicktime seems to go ok until the end of the installation and then all **** breaks loose. Some error comes up saying that I can't install it. THEN It says the installation finished successfully. So I click finish and what happends now is that it specifies that I need to update my quicktime to open itunes... I dont care about Quicktime, i want itunes to work, anyone have a link to an older STANDALONE version of itunes? Where you don't need quicktime?

  • Itunes won't open, neither will quicktime

so I know that this topic has been going around quite a bit inthe forums...but I can't seem to find how to fix mine. So I downloaded the new itunes and it's not working. it puts up an error message apologizing for the inconveniene but saying it has to close. it shows up in the task bar but then disappears. quicktime isn't working either, and i tried downloading the freestanding one but that doesn't work. i don't have norton antivirus and i don't have a firewall. help?

ok i got it to work.
First i followed this post's instructions,
okay. without the complication of a Codec Pack in play, and in light of the "fatal error on the QT uninstall, we'll try another complete scrape of iTunes and QuickTime, followed this time by a careful "phased" reinstall of both applications.
for the technique see the following post. (you've got the preliminaries mostly sorted out already, and the link there through to an itunes 7.1.0.59 installer will go through to a 7.1.1.5 installer.)

After performing this procedure, I then used windows search to find all files named quicktime. I deleted all and rebooted. I then did the same for all files named itunes. I deleted all and rebooted. I then reinstalled each of the apps and it worked. basically i had to remove anything with thoses names in every directory.

  • IMail won't open because Home Folder is full.  What and How do I delete?

I just logged on and I can't open my mail program becase the home folder is full. I went into the .mbox and deleted some messages from the folder, but I still get the error message. Any ideas?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Corruption of ~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index is known to cause this bogus error message in Mail, even when there is enough space available on disk -- but you must make sure first that there is actually enough space available (a few GB) and that the error message is indeed bogus.
After verifying/repairing the startup disk (which you say you’ve already done), and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Mail won't open -- says home dir is full, but 7GB is free!

I'm getting an error message when I try to open Mail.app. It says "Mail cannot update your mailbox becuase your home directory is full" And proceeds to quit.
I have over 7GB free on my startup drive. Why does mail think my HD is full?

Go to Home/Library/Mail and move that folder to your Desktop. Then start Mail and a new mail folder with the accounts that already exist will be created. The new mailboxes will be empty unless there's mail you haven't retrieved still on the server.
If mail functions correctly, you can then use the Import Mailboxes feature to import selected mailboxes or manually replace mailboxes from the old Mail folder one at a time to find which mailbox was causing the problem.

When I go to the Apple page  I instantly get alert:
"Safari cannot open the page because of  too many redirects."

I am still using Snow Leopard so this fix doesn't work for me as there is no option to restore windows when quitting (I currently cannot upgrade to Lion as my memory isn't sufficient). Since dowloading 5.1, whenever I launch Safari it opens with a blank window instead of my homepage - plus it's VERY hit and miss as to what page I'm going to get when I open a new window or tab.
Any ideas or will I have to go back to OS 10.6.7 just so I get have my browser opening at my homepage?

It is helpful to people if you tell them your phone model. How did you let it dry? Did you take the cover off, the battery out, and put all of it in a bag of rice for a day?

  • Quicktime won't open on my ibook

For some unknown reason quicktime player won't open, it says "quicktime player quit unexpectedly" but it never opened in the first place. Tried reinstalling quicktime player 7.5.5 for tiger and still wont work. Any ideas?

Briefly on the top toolbar it said quicktime player but then went away and gives same unexpected quit. I do appreciate your help, maybe some other procedure might work? Any other ideas what might be wrong?

  • Movie won't open in Quicktime and won't save in iTunes

I have just finished editing a project and I am trying to share it to iTunes or Quicktime.
When I share it to "Apple Devices 720", it was automatically saved to the Final Cut Project file folder under "Shared Items", and inside I found the Quicktime file for the project. But it won't open in Quicktime, I am getting an error message that says:
"The document XXXXX (1280 x 720).m4v-TEMP” could not be opened. The movie's file format isn't recognized."
I tried to share it to iTunes, nothing works. I just want to be able to play it.
Ideally, I would like to be able to play the movie in iTunes on my iMac, and be able to sync it to iPod Touch.

Actually, I solved the problem. follow these instrudctions:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
If you can't find com.apple.finalcutpro.plist delete any com.apple.finalcut..... files.

  • ITunes won't open after moving to new PC; quicktime.cpl corrupt?

I used PCMover to move my files and applications to my new PC. After this, iTunes 6 wouldn't open. I installed 7.0.2 over 6, but it won't open either. The process starts, then I receive a message saying iTuens has encountered a problem and needs to close. The iTunes display never appears.
    So far I have:
Rebooted (several times, at various points in the below processes)
Uninstalled and re-installed iTunes 7.0.2 (several times)
Attempted to uninstall Quicktime. The uninstall will not finish, saying it encountered a fatal error. Quicktime will not run, either.
Re-installed Quicktime. It still will not run or uninstall.
    Repaired Quicktime. No change.
Tried to open the QuickTime control panel. This fails with the error "An exception occurred while trying to run "C:Windows\system32\shell2.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Windows\system32\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime"
Anyone know how I can get QuickTime and iTunes to work? Thanks.
    Dell Dimension   Windows XP

Attempted to uninstall Quicktime. The uninstall will not finish, saying it encountered a fatal error. Quicktime will not run, either.
when a QuickTime uninstall throws that message at folks, it's usually best to try completely scraping the itunes and QuickTime program files and installation configuration information from the PC, and doing a careful staged reinstall afterwards.
try the technique in the following post. (it includes instructions on what to do if Add/Remove isn't letting you uninstall one of the programs.)

  • ITunes won't open after QuickTime update (Windows XP)

    Hi all,
Yesterday I was prompted by Apple Software Update to install the newest version of QuickTime, and I always comply. However, after the update now iTunes will not open at all! No error message, just the hourglass cursor for a few seconds to indicate that it's loading, then a regular cursor... and then nothing.
I tried connecting my iPod Touch since it's configured to auto-sync upon connect, still won't open. I then googled the problem and came across some methods that I don't want to try just yet, since they involve reinstalling iTunes. Also tried uninstalling Bonjour from the Add/Remove Programs menu, but this apparent solution did not work either.
I run Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 32-bit. This started happening after I updated to QuickTime 7.7 (from 7.6 I believe). Is there a fix for this problem without reinstalling? If possible, I don't want to lose my library settings. Thanks!

Could you check something further for me please, df? Is your QuickTime Player also currently failing to launch (with or without an error message)?
