ITunes won't open. Error (-200)?  9/30/11

I now have Lion and am totally updated, but I keep getting this error message (-200). I've read other similar reports od people who tried every normal thing to no avail, but I haven't found an answer yet. Can someone help? Thanks

I just stumbled upon the answer to this for myself - I just reconfigured my computer:
1. Shut down, Remove Battery for 25 seconds, then replace.
2. Press start, Command, Option, R, and P at the same time.
3. Hold these keys down untill you hear the startup sound two times,
4. Release the start button.
5. When the computer finishes booting up, you can start iTunes normally, and audio will be restored.
I hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

  • Itunes doesn't open, error -200

I'm having a problem similar to what I've seen other people mentioning here, except when the itunes icon bounces, after a minute this message pops up: The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occured. (-200).
I had this problem today after opening iTunes for the first time in a few weeks. I decided to see if downloading iTunes again would help, but its still doing exactly the same thing with the new iTunes.
I noticed something about disabling iTunes in shapeshifter, but I don't have shapeshifter.
    Help?
    thanks!

Usually that error -200 code indicates you've got a damaged QuickTime (iTunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback), but with later versions of the software (7.0.2.16 or higher) it will most commonly display as an "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration" message.
The following document is the best place to start with it:

  • ITunes won't open - error message

When I try and launch iTunes I get this error message:  "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder."  I have since unistalled and reinstalled V 11. I have also been given admin rights to my machine. I have given myself full rights to this folder.  It still won't open. Now I have unistallaed it again and reinstalled V. 10. Same error message. I ran the compaibility report and it say there is an incompatible device but doesn't say which one.   Any ideas?  I am on a Windows 7 Fujitsu laptop. I had no problems with it until I upgraded recently to V. 11.

  • Itunes won't open 'error: new itunes library'

    My itunes was playing up.
    Not recognising my iphone 4s.
It then told me I had to install the new itunes to make m iphone compatible with the computer.
I did so and now the itunes will not open saying "Error: New Itunes Library' WHY?!? This is really frustrating me!!
    Thanks.

    georgiamomma -
There are a few things you could try,but what worked for me was to download a fresh installation file from apple.
Your update got corrupted somehow. Doing the usual of going to control panel, clicking on Programs and Features, clicking on iTunes in the list and selecting REPAIR probably won't fix this issue, as sometimes repair reverts the installation to its previous version and then your iTunes Library.itl file can't open because it's from a newer version than the one REPAIR reinstalled. You can try that process, but I doubt it will work.
Do not change any files and/or their existing locations. Also, do not uninstall iTunes from your machine. Simply go to Apple's web site and download their latest version suitable for your particular computer. Once downloaded, double click the installer and follow the prompts. You should be able to launch itunes afterward, and your library will magically re-appear.
Again, DO NOT uninstall the old version, and do not rename, remove and/or replace any of the original files prior to installing the latest version over what's already on your machine. Good luck!

  • Itunes won't open error code 5,87

My itunes was working fine, and then I downloaded the latest version of Itunes and it won't open. It keeps saying "Dr. Watson was unable to attach to the process. It is possible that process exited before Dr. Watson could attach to it. Windows 2000 returned error code=5...access is denied"...before it said error code 87...now it says error code 5...I've tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling but it doesn't work! Please help! I desperately want my Itunes back!

okay ... that rules out various problems with DrWatson that i was able to find in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
let's try something aimed at trying to work out what the nature of the itunes problem is (the one that DrWatson is having trouble with).
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • ITunes won't open (error)

When I start iTunes I get this error: iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration.
What do I need to do?

Usually this issue is caused by quicktime. Try opening Quicktime and see if you recieve any errors.
Try uninstalling iTunes AND quicktime, then disable antivirus and security programs and reinstall iTunes from apple.com
If that doesn't work try the stand alone version of quicktime here http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

  • ITunes will not open (error -200)!

    The exact message:
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-200).
    What should I do?

It's been a week of trouble shooting why there is no sound from my Mac Mini to the home theatre set up, with no luck! No digital audio out from Mini since the 10.6.7 uodate. Video content is streaming fine, just not the audio. All other devices are working fine: DVD, Bluray & TV have no audio prblems. The Sound Preferences for Audio Out is greyed out and shoed Optical Digital Out. I have swapped audio cables, verified the red light at the end of the cble plugged into the sound system, swapped audio cables, done a clean install of 10.6 and the Combo 10.6.6 (before the problem), still no audio. This setup has worked flawlessly since it was set up in July 2010 - the only thing I changed before the audio problems started was apply the 10.6.7 update.

  • ITunes won't open, Error 2906

After unsuccessfully attempting to upgrade to version 7.4 of iTunes, I've been without iTunes for a year and FINALLY figured out the problem. For any of you still struggling, follow this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1875
I also read that trying to open QuickTime first, before iTunes will allow QT to configure itself to iTunes and may also solve the problem.
The above link helped me, it was iTunes that had random compatibility boxes checked and was causing the problem. My iTunes now works and I couldn't be happier! Good luck!

okay, if the DLL it's mentioning has to do with QTInstallCode.QuicktimeUninstallProc, then (given that you're 32-bit) let's try the following procedure. (if it's saying something slightly different, post back to let us know what it does say.)
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes 6
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • ITunes won't open - Error 13001

    Good day,
Every time I try to open iTunes, I get a message with the Unknown error 13001. I tried to fix it by uninstalling the app and intalling it again, deleting the iTunes Library and it doesn't work. When I plugged the iPhone 4S, it did't recognize it. When I open iTunes using a different user, it works fine, I don't get the error. I have read the troubleshooting steps provided by Apple, and I don't want to create a new user and transfer all the documents so I can use iTunes. I would like to know if there's another solution for this issue. Thanks.

  • Itunes won't open, error 14001.

It says to reinstall it, yet I've done this countless times along with quicktime and all other apple related products but it still won't work.
I have tried to repair mobile device support, but it says there was a "fatal error during installation".
I am at a loss as to what to do now, any help would be appreciated.

  • ITunes won't open, error -45054

So a couple weeks ago, my MacBook Pro would not turn on. I had a similar problem a few months ago where the issue was the startup disk was full. I have a 256 GB hard drive so it can fill up fast sometimes. I had a back up of my full iTunes library so I decided to delete my iTunes Media Folder hoping to clear up a lot of space. It cleared up the space but the MacBook still wouldn't turn on. Turns out the power button on the body had broken. So i ordered a new bottom body, switched it out, and my laptop turned on fine. I decided that I would restore my iTunes library. So I opened up iTunes and I got two windows that popped up over the normal iTunes window. One says "You do not have enough access privileges for this operation" and the other says "An unknown error occurred (-45054)." and then iTunes automatically closes. I have used Disk utility to Verify Disk Permission and to Repair Disk Permissions. Neither of these worked. I then tried reinstalling iTunes and that didn't work either. If anyone has any ideas of what I should do, I'd be very happy to try them.

If repairing permissions using Disk Utility does not work, try: iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1277

  • Mac iTunes won't open; error 13010

Running the newly updated iTunes on my Mac; the one with Genius support (not sure if I actually like that feature or not); anyway, I was in the midst of synching with my iPod shuffle when my Mac indicated that I needed to hold down the "Power" key, which I did. Upon restarting, however, the Mac seems to be running okay but now my iTunes application refuses to load and I get the following error message:
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13010).
Any thoughts on a fix? Thanks in advance.

  • Itunes won't open-error-says Itunes has stopped working

I can't open Itunes--it keeps saying it has stopped working and it tries to find a solution.  Then it shuts down and nothing happens.  I have uninstalled and redownloaded it but same problem.

    Restart your computer.
Disconnect your computer from the internet and see if you can open iTunes without crash.
if iTunes does open, go to iTunes Menu Edit > Preferences, "Advanced" tab and click the "Reset Cache" button, OK.
Now, use Windows Explorer to delete the contents of Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Download
You may now re-connect your internet then see if you can open iTunes without issues.

  • ITunes won't open -error: The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created...

    Hello,
I am not able to open my iTunes. I was able to use it yesterday. I keep getting the message:
*The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder.*
I have created a folder called "iTunes" in my "My Music" folder, which does not fix the problem.
I have uninstalled and installed iTunes twice.
I have used the repair option when trying to install iTunes over the top of my current iTunes.
None of these options has fixed the problem.
If anyone knows how to fix this, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks!
    Rachel

I found the answer on another board... Below are the parts I found useful (quoted).
    Click on Start
    Clin on Run
    Type in "regedit" Enter
Do this step twice as there are two locations. +(I actually had 4 locations.)+
    CTRL F
    Type in "My Music"
Double Click and enter the path for where the folder is located.
    Then exit.
The exact locations of the 2 entries that I changed are
hkeycurrentuser - software - microsoft - windows - current version - explorer - shell folders
    and
as above - windows - current version - explorer - USER shell folders
I located the location of my iTunes folder (something like this - C:\Documents and Settings\"yourname"\My Documents\My Music\iTunes.
I copied it, and when I found the regedit location referred to, doubleclicked the location and pasted the path in there.
