Itunes won't open, even after reintallation

itunes just quit working.  I uninstalled, shut down the PC, then reinstalled.  It all looks good during installation...the wizard works fine, but when you try to launch you get nothing.  It won't open from the shortcut on the desktop, or the program list.  I don't seem to have any problems with any of the other programs on the PC...just itunes.  I've googled the problem and tried those suggestions.  Thanks for any help.

Update... so i backed up files from three folders shown below:
'User'/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/
'User'/AppData/Local/Apple Computer/
'User'/Music/iTunes/(all files except music and app folders)
Then I uninstalled iTunes & Quicktime
Restarted Machine
Reinstalled iTunes (which reinstalls Quicktime as well)
Opend iTunes to make sure it worked (it did), then closed it.
Copied all of the original files back over to their original locations.
Restarted iTunes
Everything appears to be back to normal (iPhone sync works properly as well)
Hope this helps for anyone else seeking an answer!

  • ITunes won't open, even after complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes/Qktime

    Hello
This morning iTunes started refusing to open. When opened it bounces twice and then closes.
Strange, because I didn;t just update. It worked fine after my last update and up until the present. I'm not sure but it could have started happening after I plugged in my iPod Touch 16gb 2.0. I did that sometime this morning.
I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of both Itunes and Quicktime, and I also uninstalled Flip to Mac as I read here it could be related. Restarted my computer many times. Now, same problem, iTunes won't start.
I live in noisy Barcelona and i'm going crazy without tunes...

    PLEASE HELP!!
I am so frustrated and about to just give up and deal with the fact I won't have iTunes again

    Hi Kacey,
I suspect that somewhere in all of this your iTunes library database got removed. Here is my usual approach...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder (inside your main iTunes folder) should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If I've misunderstood the situation please provide more details and I will do my best to help.

  • My itunes won't launch even after reinstalling.  Looked in itunes folder and somehow lost itunes library?  HELP!

My itunes won't launch even after reinstalling.  Looked in itunes folder and somehow lost itunes library?  HELP!

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:
Bugie: Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime.
    Hope this helps.

    Try close all inactive apps
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe up on the screenshot of the app you want to exit.
    3. The app will fly off the screen

Have you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader? You need to direct it to the location of your old iPhoto Library by clicking the "Choose Library" button in the lower right corner of the panel you are seeing when the upgrade starts.

  • ITunes 11.1.1 won't open even after OS update.  Is there something ELSE I'm missing?

After I updated my iTunes to 11.1.1, it wouldn't open.  I found something on these forums that had a link to an OS update to fix the problem.  Downloading and installing the OS update took nearly 24 hours, and iTunes still won't open.  Is there something else I'm missing?

first of all you want to back up all music files before you uninstall itunes. if mavericks wont let you uninstall itunes then right click on itunes in your applications folder, then get info, then go to the bottom and change all permissions to read and write. then close and try to uninstall and reinstall. if that doesnt work then this does :
open apps, go to utilities, open terminal and cut and paste or type in these 3 commands, hitting return after each one.
    (first type) killall iTunes
    (then hit return)
    (then type) killall "iTunes Helper"
    (then hit return)
(then type) sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    (and hit return)
after the last one you will be warned and asked to enter your password. do it.
once completed you will see on your itunes icon with a ? shadow inside it.
drag it off the dock and it goes poof.
    then download itunes from apple.
if they wont let you download 11.1.5 itunes then use 10.7 Download it from Apple here.
and then install and upgrade to 11.1.5 from there. this is the method i used when my itunes just bounced after installing mavericks. it takes only minutes and your itunes will be as right as rain. enjoy.

    hi Shaun!
after installing the update for iTunes, it doesn't run (comp makes noises but nothing comes up on screen). when i open task manager itunes is running as a process, but i can't end process.
hmmm. okay, Norton is still our prime suspect here. that "running itunes.exe process that will not die" symptom is associated with the nastier versions of the NIS 2005 launch suppression problems. (people who get that also often see things like looooooong sloooooow shutdown times on the PCs and odd end program dialog boxes.)
let's try throwing the trusty Lorraine M technique at the beast. (it usually fixes the nastier versions of the NIS 2005 problems.)

  • Adobe reader won't open, even after re-download

adobe reader won't open because of error - NEED PDF READER NOW!!!!!!!!!

The reason is Adobe has not updated there software yet to play well with Mavericks. The fault is of course with the Adobe Software. I suggest you go to there web site and see if they have a fix yet for there software, If not all you can do is continue to check back with them or get on there fourms and see what others have to say about this same issue.

  • ITunes won't open automatically after connecting iPhone

Maybe I missed the discussion on this but I did search first.  I just bought an iPhone 4s and had already upgraded to iTunes 10.5.  iTunes will not open when the iPhone is initially plugged in.  I can manually open iTunes and it works fine.  'Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected.' is checked and the 'helper' process is running.  Any ideas?

  • ITUNES 7 Still won't open, even after trying solutions from other topics

I have tried the following things:
    Uninstall/Reinstall
    Quicktime as a stand alone
    Virus protection off
Trying to start Itunes with a CD
    System Reboot.
None of these things have worked. Can anyone help me.

    Okay,
    I HAVE FOUND A WORKAROUND
This is definitely not a solution, and Apple needs to address this problem immediately, but this will do it until they pull the proverbial lead out of their proverbial apple-holes...
Right-click on the iTunes shortcut, and select "Run As"
Run it as a different user, such as Administrator. If you do not have any other users, go to Control Panel > Users and make a new user.
If you run it as a different user, it seems to work fine...
Note: The iTunes Music Library is different per user, so you may need to import all of your music again

  • ITunes won't launch (even after reinstall) Win XP PRO

    Hey everyone,
I've been using iTunes for about 18 months now. The program is great and I can't imagine using my computer without it. I've recently finished adding artwork to all of my albums (over 300), which I've searched for myself in google, so you can imagine my frustration right now, as I'm unable to launch the program
There isn't really much to say. I try to open the program, but right after I double click the iTunes icon, I get a windows error message (the kind of error that allows you to send an error report to microsoft.. screenshot http://tinyurl.pl/rnxz - you probably won't understand the language, but maybe it'll help somehow).
I tried completely removing iTunes from my computer and then installing it again - the exact same error pops up.
It is also the same whenever I connect my iPOD and it tries to launch iTunes. So this basically means that I'm unable to update or sync my iPOD at the moment
Does anyone have a clue as to what could be wrong here?
PS. the problem didn't start after I installed the newest version of iTunes! It started suddenly. One day I come back home and try to launch iTunes, and it won't budge.

my Polish isn't good, but i can recognise an "itunes has encountered a problem ..." message box in many different languages.
first let's check to see if this is associated with a broken or missing QuickTime. (itunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work properly.)
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • ITunes won't open up after updating...

    oh no. it won't.
i download the update, i install it succesfully, i open up iTunes and...that's it, it bumps in the dock once and then it disappears without opening up.
Then the only thing that can restore a working version of iTunes is deleting it with appDelete and reinstalling the 7.1.1 version...yes, because all the later updates won't work in any case. None of them.
anyone got an idea? actually i don't need to install the newer version of itunes, but id like to solve it
    thanks

Do you get an error message when you try to launch iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

  • ITunes doesn't open, even after download of iTunes 7

So I had iTunes 6.5 or whatever and it stopped working... Everytime I'd try to open it, it said "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." So I downloaded the new iTunes 7 and after installation it automatically opened and worked fine, but when I closed it and tried to open it again, it didn't work and said the same message. I've updated all my virus software and Windows Update... so I don't know what can be stopping it.

  • ITunes won't launch, even after install or connecting iPod.

So recently I attempted to open iTunes through the shortcut on my desktop, but it wouldn't open. It would attempt to load, start up iTunesHelper.Exe, and then nothing. Helper.Exe would just sit there.
So when in doubt, Windows Media Center, right? Loaded that up, usually it works fine. I attempted to play a song and it gave me a message saying my file was corrupt and unable to play.
Finally, I decided to reinstall iTunes so it'll update to the most recent version. And to my luck, it installed! But every time I click "Agree" on the Terms & Agreements, all it does is start Helper.Exe. Nothing else happens.
Even connecting my iPod does nothing. It just gives me the Terms & Agreements screen again, which glitches out and opens iTunersHelper.Exe. Which in the end, does nothing. And I find it ouragous that I have to pay for techical support when it's a Software that was Free.
Any help? The Troubleshooter dosen't cover this issue.

Anthing? Nearly 24 hours and the Auto-Updater prompted me to install the lastest version of iTunes. I did, still the same problem.
