ITunes won't open for a different reason then anyone else has posted! HELP!

Hey, hopefully you can help me. I recently tried to move my music to my new external hard drive. It was successful and worked fine. All of the sudden, iTunes decided that it would not open. Whenever I try to open iTunes the following message pops up:
The folder "itunes" cannot be opened or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "my music" folder.
I have tried to move the music back, tried to create a new folder (my music and itunes), tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I even tried to reinsert my ipod/itunes software cd, and even that didnt work.
Think you can handle this question? Then shoot me the answer to this question!

this seemed like it was going to work, but when i
click repair my music folder, it doesn't do anything.
When i clicked it for the other ones, it thought for
a half-second then i went to my documents and my
video folder was back as was my pictures. However,
my music still wasn't there. what now?
I'm not sure what you did, but whatever you did, it was wrong. I'm not talking about any "Repair" options...
Just create a "My Music" folder in the correct place. Then open TweakUI, and go to My Computer->Special Folders in TweakUI. In the folder drop down, select the "My Music" folder, then use the Change Location button to select the new My Music folder you have just created.
There's no magical "Repair" involved. You need to fix the folder yourself.

  • ITunes is not opening for no apparent reason

My iTunes won't open anymore. I don't know what's wrong. It was working fine yesterday and now it just bounces in the task bar. I tried to update it but an "unexpected error" occurs every time. Similarly, I tried to download it offline and I got the same message. I am afraid to delete iTunes for fear of losing my music. Anyone know what might be going on. Is my best chance to delete it, re-download iTunes, and go ahead and upload all my music again?

This is the itunes store with windows forum. So assuming you're on a windows PC (alhtough your signature says Mac), try doing a repair on itunes. In XP, it's Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, click on change and then repair.

  • ITunes will not open - for no obvious reason!

Yesterday morning iTunes stopped opening on my computer. I downloaded the new version a few days ago but I'm pretty sure I had used it since then and that it had worked. My computer seems to think about opening it, as it makes all the usual computing noises, but then nothing happens. I've tried re-installing it too, which apparently seems to work OK, except it still won't work! Any suggestions? Ta, Rob

When I click to open it, my pointer turns to a small pointer and a small hourglass together for a few seconds. My computer makes the usual noises it makes when opening something, only for slightly longer. Then the normal pointer returns to normal and nothing has happened.
I tried pressing ctrlaltdelete to see what's going on, and there are processes labelled as "iTunesHelper.exe" and "iPodService.exe" running, should I try closing either of those, or are they not to do with this? There is no mention of iTunes proper itself.
Quicktime opens just as usual and works fine.
I had a look through the link you offered but I don't think any of the suggestions applied to me. I appreciate your efforts!

  • Itunes won't open for me?

I recently went to plug in my phone and my computer wouldn't recognize it. I deleted then redownloaded Itunes, but  it still wouldn't work. When i try to open Itunes it says "The file Itunes.Library can not be read because it was created by a newer version of Itunes". I'm not sure what this means, or how on earth i fix it, but could anyone help?
I haven't had this problem before, and i've tried deleting/redownloading it multiple times. Nothing is working.
I was downloading the most recent version of Itunes.

I downloaded ewido and did a scan, then I cleaned out all my old iTunes software...the updater etc & downloaded everything all over again & I still am having the same problem. I don't know what to do next, because I know it's not a problem with Norton Security because I don't even have that on my computer. I'm thinking I might not have done the right scan on ewido considering there's more than one to choose from, here's a snapshot of the ewido scanner page:
    http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/272/ewidoscannerpage6ki.jpg
I did the quick scan, but should I have done the full system scan? I have done everything everyone seems to be saying to do with no result, so please help if you can...thanks in advance!
Also, I am not getting any sort of error message. Still just the brief license agreement that flashes on the screen. I've also done a system recovery on my computer pretty recently, hope that helps.

    1) When I go to the apple.com website my computer will either be really slow or freeze my whole system down to where I have to reboot my computer again. This does not happen all the time but when it does operate it is molasses slow.
By any chance, are you uswing Kaspersky security software?
    If so, see:

  • My iTunes won't open for some reason.

So for some reason my iTunes will not openm, I've clicked the shortcut, gone to the location, opened as a dmin, and still nothing. I've re-installed it plenty times, and still nothing. I have no absolute idea what is wrong. Maybe it's Quicktime or mobileme, but someone please help. I run Windows 7 64bit.

Try following steps one at a time:
    1. Check to see if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    2. If you don't see ApsDaemon.exe in the Processes, refer to following article to remove SC files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
Then, repair your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REPAIR.

Me too... The other post relating to this was with a PC but the same is happening for macs too by the look of it. Has anyone got an idea of how to sort this out? I don't suppose it's possible to find an earlier version of iTunes to download? I'm going to have a search now cos I need iTunes to be working!

  • Itunes refuses to open for past month. Freezes up my computer. Help?

itunes has not worked at all for a month. 64-bit. The problem is  system wide. As long as i am not trying to open itunes, my computer works perfectly. Help please.

Can you elaborate?  I am not aware of any m3u playlist being present but maybe there is.  I have done this many times before.  I move tons of files around in my music folder, add/delete/change, and rather than have iTunes try to figure it all out again, I just remove everything out of iTunes and add my entire folder back.  I've done it probably 50 times in the past and now, when I do it, it's creating playlists for every single folder or album or something, just as the original poster has described.  I do not like the behavior and would like to turn it off now!  I'm on Mac so iTunes Folder Watch will not work for me.  Any suggestions?

  • Safari won't open on my Iphone4s.  Is anyone else having this problem?

All day today, February 14, 2013 I haven't been able to get Safari to open on my iphone4s.

Hey...it worked.  Problem solved.  It was just Safari and not other features that wouldn't work, so I thought it was odd.  Anyway...thanks for the reminder to try the simple thing first.

  • Itunes won't open - problem with visualizer?

For some reason Itunes won't open for me - I have had it for ages, never a problem, but I got Leopard last week and now Itunes has crashed. When i try to open it it freezes and then closes, with an error message that says 'the problem may have been caused by the ItunesX Visualizer plug in'.
Any advice on how to fix this? I have uninstalled and reinstalled both itunes and Quicktime, but nothing seems to work.

Same problem here! I'm going crazy. I did those two things you did and NOTHING, nada, help us!

  • ITunes won't open, I get this message: The iTunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this file.

    iTunes won't open.
I get this message: The iTunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this file.

This may indicate a corrupt preference file with iTunes trying to open the wrong location. Try holding down shift as you launch iTunes then choose the correct file, normally <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. See iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one.

Is anyone else having this problem?
I tried to re-install and got the following message:  iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 1114)
Does this mean I have now lost everything?

I just had the same error:
    R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.  Please contact the apps support team for more info.
I went to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 and did a complete removal and reinstallation of iTunes. You MUST follow the directions here exactly...it's more than just iTunes that must be removed, and it MUST be done in the order in which the support article says.  I followed the exact instructions, and iTunes is back on my machine (no more C runtime error) and you do NOT lose your music...it's all in my library, as it was before.
    Good luck!

My iTunes won't open! It keeps saying 'The iTunes Library.itl is locked on a locked disk or you not have write permission for this file.' Please Help!

this may happen on external drives if:
The external drive was hotpluged (removed) without going the correct "eject" way
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
    First Aid for external drive
    Close iTunes
Unmount (eject) external drive the right way.
    Mount drive again
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up" This will force the filesystem to rescan the file structure of the drive and rebuilding the file system table and journaling file.
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive) restart iTunes
If your iTunes library is on your internal drive, this may happen
The system was not shoot down correct, e.g. "pulled the plug"
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
First Aid for internal hard drive
    Close iTunes
    Reboot system
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up"
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive)
    Reboot system, restart iTunes
If none of the above fixes your problem, post here.

  • ITunes won't open after installing update for 10.4

I updated my iTunes to the most recent version and restarted my computer. When my computer turned back on, I tried to open iTunes but it just keeps giving me the "The application iTunes quit unexpectedly" message and asks me to either ignore report or relaunch. Every time I click relaunch, the message comes up again. My OS is Mac OSX Version 10.5.8. Anyone know what to do?

    hello Nevada!
After installing the latest itunes update, itunes
won't open at all. I click on it and it just won't
    open.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it
    say?
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever? if
so, could you let us know the results of the
    following observations?
reboot your PC. open Task Manager to the Processes
Tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an itunes.exe process appear in Task Manager? if
so, does it persist in there, or does it disappear
    after a few seconds?
    love, b
b noir - i have been following your advice and i want to thank you for taking your time to try and solve these problems for ipod users.
i have been following this message board each day for the past week - ever since my iTunes stopped working. i have not yet seen anyone who is receiving the same error message as myself.
like most others, i downloaded the recent update for iTunes - since then, iTunes will not open. i have tried most of the other proposed solutions to no avail, such as downloading a stand-alone version of quicktime, making sure my msconfig start-up has the correct check marks, etc.
the iTunes set-up completes with no problem - i have tried installing by saving the file to my hard drive and then running and also by running the program straight from the download window. same results.
once i go to open iTunes, i receive the following error message: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem." Then I click "Send Error Report" just hoping I will receive a required update to make this work.
i was wondering if you could attempt to help me resolve this issue? i have my music saved to my external hard drive, so i am in no danger of losing my music. however, i need to open iTunes to update my iPod.
thanks in advance for your help.
