ITunes won't open or uninstall and reinstall

I recently tried to download iTunes 10 but a part of it didn't download right and now when I press iTunes it says, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Then when I try to uninstall it says the installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file. And when I just try to download it again from apple.com it doesn't let me download it. I just recently bought an iPod touch and I haven't been able to do anything with it because of iTunes, so any help would be really appreciated.

I am also having this problem. Only started tody.
Origially I couldn't open the program as whenever I tried the shortcut or the file it came up with a message that said it had been moved.
So I uninstalled and then re-downloaded the setup files and re-installed.
Now I get the message:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
I cannot uninstall or re-install either, this gives the message:
"The Installer has insufficient priviledges to modify this file: C:\Program Files\iTunes\Acknowledgements.rtf.
Please help!

Started having trouble with iTunes so I uninstalled everything and tried to reinstall but it says ' iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes.'  Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times.  Now what?

I figured it out.  A week ago I had downloaded a screensaver from a website I trusted and that's when my problems started. I uninstalled it but that didn't help.  So, I reinstalled it then used an uninstall softtware app that cleanns more than the control panel does. Then I used a computer cleaner to be sure everything was wiped clean.  And it worked.  I downloded iTunes for the 7th time in 2 days and finally it worked!  And I lost nothing from my account.
Maybe this info will help others.

  • HT1923 i couldn't open itunes so it suggested i uninstall and reinstall. when i go to reinstall a message comes up that i don't have sufficient privileges to start system services.

i found that i couldn't open itunes on my home computer so the website suggested i uninstall and reinstall the program. i uninstalled it then tried to reinstall and an error box comes up that says to verify i have sufficient privileges to start system services. I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it so i can finish the installation process.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:

  • Downloaded Itunes to Windows 8. When opening Itunes error message 'Apple Application Support is required to run ITunes. Please uninstall Itunes, then install ITunes again.' I have uninstalled and reinstalled still same error received.

I downloaded ITunes onto my computer with Windows 8. Each time I try to open it I get the same error of "Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is reuired to run iTues. Please uninstall ITunes, then install ITunes again. Error 2 (Windows error 2)". I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it multiple times and continue to get the same error. I am unsure of how to fix this.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • ITunes won't open after OS X reinstall..  Help!

I am selling my MacBook (upgraded to a MB Pro), so I wiped it and reinstalled OS X 10.5.8.  I did all the software updates, and then tested a couple applications.  When I tried to open iTunes, a message pops up that says:
"iTunes requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later.  For more information about upgrading your computer, visit http://www.apple.com/quicktime"
Seeing how QuickTime is built into the OS, there's no download I can find on the Apple site, and software update says everything's up to date.  I've tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling, but same message and iTunes still won't open.  I don't want to delete QuickTime if there's no download to reinstall it, and I've even tried putting a music CD in the drive to get iTunes to open, and no luck.
What do I do?  Please help!  Thanks in advance!

I also have the same problem, but the Software Updates tool doesn't recognise that Quicktime is out of date. Have you tried downloading Quicktime 7.7 Leopard from http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime as this worked for me...?

  • My itunes won't open at all and has the Error message (13014)

    PLEASE HELP!
I recently upgraded my itunes to the itunes 9. Now it won't open even if i try with the option key, but i may be doing the wrong thing. It won't even open when i reboot my computer. It was doing fine at first , but now it won't let access my music at all. Any solutions? I would greatly appreciate it.

No thats not right, iTUnes uses parts of quicktime to play audio and video. You need to go here and download the stand alone version of quicktime. Now apple has recently changed this page to include quicktime with iTUnes and then qwuicktime only. get the one WITHOUT iTUnes,

  • ITunes won't open after uninstalling FCP 7

I had to reinstall FCP 7 so i used the "uninstall FCS" application that came with it. After doing so i went to check my itunes while it re-installed. I suddenly got a " you are not authorized on this computer" message. And only had an OK as a response. This only came up once and it still confuses me. then itunes crashed and i got the re-open dialogue box. "no biggie" i'll just re-open. then the same message popped up. And now for 24 hours i have had no access to itunes.
at this point it starts to "checking your library" and then after about 3 seconds it stops and crashes. i have tried every fix i've found. But here's the Crash report. please help i think it's a problem with core.

  • Itunes will not open after uninstall and re-download, I only get a message itunes match accessing itunes store which goes on for a long time

I could not open I-tunes.  I had used it a week before but it was spotty and then eventually it would not open at all.   I uninstalled it then downloaded it.  I restarted the computer.  When I tried to open itunes, I got a message "ITunes match. Accessing iTunes store" and it does not go beyond that.  I've tried this process twice.  I had my Norton support service do a tuneup and they downloaded iTunes but it will still not work. help!

  • My Windows XP computer becomes extremely slow when I try using iTunes. It cannot connect to iTunes Store. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but nothing changes. I cannot use iTunes or sync my iPod anymore. Please help.

I cannot use iTunes anymore. My computer becomes extremely slow or just freezes. I notice the problem started after I updated iTunes to a new version. I have tried uninstalling iTunes completely from my computer and installing it back, but problem continues. We iTunes launches, it tries to connect to iTunes store, but it doesn't seem to be able to do that either. I can't sync my iPod or play back my music, please help.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • ITunes stopped working (hung), I uninstalled and Reinstalled, I.E. XP indicates Itunes is already installed.

I trying to determine why Itunes installer indicates ITunes is installed.  I have cleaned Itunes from my Programs folder - deleted the contents of my temp folder - deleted my cookies.  Is it possible that cookies are embedded in the audio and video files I have downloaded to the Itunes program I uninstalled?  Or Is it possible that Itunes installer is detecting a file association?

Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

  • My iTunes won't open, yet I have reinstalled it multiple times.

    Help please.

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
    download iTunes again from Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You should be making backups of your content regularly, either through iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a external drive.
Windows is notorious for having "other" issues that make it unstable, we as volunteers helping others can't always resolve those issues.

  • Itunes won't open, Windows 7, and can't find SC Info to fix

Worked through all the fixes, cannot find the SC INfo as the link suggests.

Make sure you have checked "Show hidden files and folders"
From the Start menu, click Computer.
In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    Click OK.
