Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates
Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)

  • ITunes won't open after installing upgrade and restarting

When I click on my iTunes icon in the dock, iTunes won't open. Instead, a message box comes up: "The file iTunes "library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."
Just before this happened, I imported a lot of music into my library. Now iTunes only opens if I pIug my ipod into my Mac.
Is there any way I can get iTunes to open by clicking on the icon, as it used to do?

What version of iTunes is installed in the Apple default location ..... /Applications/iTunes ???
Drag the iTunes icon in the Dock to the Desktop and release; it will be deleted with a poof! Don't worry it's only an alias.
In your Home Page ~/Library/Preferences/ ......... drag to the Trash and delete:
    com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
(don't worry ... new ones will be created upon relaunch of iTunes .... +see below+)
    Using: /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions
    RESTART the computer
Within the Applicatons folder: double-click the iTunes icon ... if the launch is successful, drag a copy of the iTunes icon to the Dock ... release ... you will now have a current alias in the Dock.
P.S. *Do Not* have the iPod connected to the computer during this process!

  • Itunes constantly crashes and won't open even efter removal and re-install.

It states "AppCrash" as the reason. I've removed all the hardware, and reinstalled it just to have itunes quickly open upon startup, immediately close again and state it was an app crash.

Thank you all for your input and sympathy! I did reset the PRAM before taking it in on Sunday, but that unfortunately didn't do it. I also tried the erase-then-install route, but the machine only gets through varying degrees of the install before crashing.
I hauled it up to the Apple Store (150 mi. RT, but great guys/fast service) who also believed it was RAM, swapped out the apparently 3rd party RAM (who would think you would have to specify APPLE RAM to an Apple Specialist/Reseller?!). Turns out it still crashes, so back I went on Monday. It's now waiting on a logic board and processor.
I've always bought direct from Apple before, but tried to save a few $ this time. Needless to say, those saved $ have been spent several times over in time and mileage, some of which would have been spent regardless of where the machine came from. However, had I bought direct, I could probably get a new machine more quickly at the store. If the machine isn't running wthin a week I will send it back west for an exchange. Thank you again. I'll follow up here when this is resolved.

  • Itunes won't open...bounces and disappears. Here is crash log.

When I attempt to click on itunes, it appears on the dock, bounces, and disappears. This also occurs with the "help" application. Can anyone help? Here is the crash log, but b/c it is so large it is pasted here with only the first ever crash and the most recent.

Looks like your webkit framwork is broken, or is now broken in relation to iTunes. Calls and classes may have changed since version 7.1, which is what you are using. Try updating to the latest version of iTunes and see if this fixes it.

  • ITunes won't open, even after complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes/Qktime

    Hello
This morning iTunes started refusing to open. When opened it bounces twice and then closes.
Strange, because I didn;t just update. It worked fine after my last update and up until the present. I'm not sure but it could have started happening after I plugged in my iPod Touch 16gb 2.0. I did that sometime this morning.
I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of both Itunes and Quicktime, and I also uninstalled Flip to Mac as I read here it could be related. Restarted my computer many times. Now, same problem, iTunes won't start.
I live in noisy Barcelona and i'm going crazy without tunes...

Update... so i backed up files from three folders shown below:
    'User'/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/
    'User'/AppData/Local/Apple Computer/
'User'/Music/iTunes/(all files except music and app folders)
Then I uninstalled iTunes & Quicktime
    Restarted Machine
Reinstalled iTunes (which reinstalls Quicktime as well)
Opend iTunes to make sure it worked (it did), then closed it.
Copied all of the original files back over to their original locations.
    Restarted iTunes
Everything appears to be back to normal (iPhone sync works properly as well)
Hope this helps for anyone else seeking an answer!
    Kyle

  • Why does iTunes say that I have to remove and reinstall it every time I connect my iPhone 4?

Okay, so I just received my new iPhone 4 (my first as well) and am trying to activate it.  I have iTunes on my computer already.  When I connected my iPhone to my laptop after launching iTunes, a dialog box with an error message saying something like my iPhone can't be used because the software hasn't been installed and that I'm supposed to run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes and then to reinstall iTunes again.
1.) I have gone directly to the website www.itunes.com/download, as it says in the activation guide, and tried to download iTunes from there.  After speaking to technical support, apparently that's what I did wrong the first time.  That, and I had the phone plugged into the laptop as well. Fail.
2.) I have opened iTunes from my desktop and "updated" the software directly from the iTunes store.  Still I received the same message (as previously stated) with NO PHONE attached to the computer. Although, this time it said that my Quicktime was out of date. Uninstalled it, downloaded update. Epic fail.
3.) Lastly, I completely uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled the "new" iTunes.  I officially suck at life.

Your apps were installed from a different computer than the one your photos are on. The iPhone can sync with only one computer.

  • Firefox won't open pdf files; uninstalled and reinstalled Firefoxes, updated all extensions, etc. still getting error messages.

When I attempt to load a .pdf file, a window pops up reading "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (4:4)"
I have tried rebooting the computer, uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, making sure all plug-ins are updated (they are), disabling every other plug in to see if it was interfering (they weren't -- still got same message), and reinstalling adobe reader (and flash, just for good measure).

Did you try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox?

  • ITunes won't open on Win XP, and does'nt give any error message.

I've installed the last version of iTunes on my WinXP. The inhalation haven't any trouble. But when I launch the iTunes its loads just 42 MB in ram and stop, don't opens any window, or doesn't give me any error message.
I use a customized lite version of the WinXP, but I've already installed and ran the iTunes here.
I've tried to debug it but it wasn't possible.
I got no idea about what's happening.
    Help-me, because I love iTunes...

Does your computer meet the specifications required for the new verson of iTunes?
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • I recently downloaded the newest iTunes update, but iTunes won't open... And every time I try to open iTunes, A box asks if I want to allow the program to make changes to my computer. I've clicked yes many times and it always comes up, any ideas?

Also I've tried restarting my computer many times and it still says the same thing...

Anyone know how I can fix this?

  • My iTunes won't open, it shows a please reinstall iTunes message.

So, i updated my itunes file when the message popped up, but after i restarted my computer like i was told to do by itunes, it would no longer open. the following message pops up: " This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes."
the problem is, i have over 1000 songs and most of them came from CD's that i borrowed from friends and such. only a handful of songs have i bought straight from the iTunes store. I do not want to lose these. is there anyway to preserve these songs, but still get itunes running like normal? if so, how?

" This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes."
Let's try a repair install of iTunes.
    Restart the PC first.
If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair".
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", and click "Change". Select "Repair" and click "Next" as per the following screenshot:
Can you launch your iTunes now?

  • ITunes won't open, says files are missing. reinstall?

I've been using iTunes for a couple years now today I can't open it. A message keeps popping up saying I need to reinstall iTunes due to files missing. Is there a way to do a "repair install" What do I need to do to not loose all of my music.

You should not loose any music if iTunes was maintained properly.
In most cases it is so no need for concern. But to verify.
Go to My documents - My Music - iTunes - iTunes Music - Inside this folder you should see all your music, videos, podcasts, etc.
If you get the chance right click on iTunes Music folder, select properties. This will show you the file size. The file size should be pretty big depending on how much music you had.

  • Itunes won't open and tells me it is incompatible

iTunes won't open, have tried everything and nothing works.  When I do a troubleshoot on it, it gives me a incompatible message, how can this be repaired???

    Refer to this article:

  • I have been using pse11 on wondows vista and it has certainly started freezing on starting and I am unable to access the organizer, the editor is ok. Have removed and reinstalled but is the same have changed the files as suggested. Have been unable to ope

I am using pse 11 0n windows vista for years and it has suddenly started freezing on starting, I am now unable to access the organizer it freezes on the blue screen, the editor can be opened. Have removed and reinstalled but is still occurring. Have changed the files as suggested, am unable to open as administrator

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?
