ITunes won't open so I can't disconnect my new iPod nano!

I first connected my nano to the computer before I installed the stuff on the disc that came with the nano because I already had iTunes and all that. Everything worked fine. Then, when I had more time, I came back and installed the disc. After that, I tried to open iTunes but it didn't respond. I tried opening other programs and they all worked. I tried connecting my nano to the computer so that iTunes would open automaticly. It didn't work, and now my iPod says "do not disconnect" and I can't get into iTunes to eject it! Help!!!

a few questions before proceeding.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever when you try to launch itunes?
if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?
or are you seeing a brief "flash" of the itunes license screen (and then nothing)? if so, do you also see similar behavior when you try to launch your QuickTime?
or is it more that your itunes library screen appears, and then "freezes" (even without an ipod connected), and when you check on that in Task Manager, it says "Not responding" in there?

  • Itunes won't open. Says can't find the folder

    Hi,
I could install Itunes and Quicktime, I already tried the msconfig solutions but it doesn't work. I have a ipod with video and I can't get it to work because itunes won't open.
It displays the license agreement and after I agree it displays error message "Can't find itunes folder or can't be created and is needed for Itunes to work. This is normally located under My music folder".
I tried to create manually the folder, and still doesn't work.
Can you help me with this or tell me if I can use another application to transfer video and photos to my Ipod?

This error prevents iTunes from launching. The library file was modified to work with the newer iTunes version, so it is no longer compatible with the previous version. The good news, however, is that Apple does backup the iTunes library file into a subdirectory that you can use to revert back to the previous version.
To recover a previous version of the iTunes Library.itl file, use the following steps:
Open up your My Documents\My Music folder.
We will first backup the current version. Rename iTunes Library.itl to something like iTunes Library.itl.bak.
Go into the My Documents\My Music\Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
You may see several files that start with iTunes Library and have a date included in the name. Copy the newest file in the folder.
Go back to the My Documents\My Music and paste the file from the previous step.
Rename the new copied file to iTunes Library.itl.
Your library should now be restored to the previous version of iTunes, and you should no longer receive the message.

  • I can't acces my new iPod nano through iTunes..it seems to have been barred

I just installed my new iPod nano.. I already had an iPod and so I still had all my old music saved in my iTunes library.. I added that music to my new iPod. So it appears in the column alongside the 'Library', 'Store' and 'Playlists' tabs (underneath the 'Devices' tab) but it wont allow me to select any music or play music from my iPod whilst in iTunes.. It seems like its all barred.. I have no idea why.. I can still acces music from my library but I cant through my iPod.
I've downloaded the newest version of iTunes.. what other settings should I change?

If the contents of iPod Nano appeared to be "greyed out", you have the Nano set to autosync. If you wish to manage the iPod content directly, you will have to set you iPod preferences to manually manage. Manually manage will also allow you to play iPod content through iTunes.

  • Can i use my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro

I registered my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro.  While on my macbook, I tried to download wma audiobooks from the library using overdrive media console & its not working.....so, I decided to use my windows laptop.  I have the latest version of itunes on both laptops.  (I know I can download & transfer wma audiobooks to my shuffle using overdrive media console & windows laptop.)  I'm getting an error message that says I have to reformat my nano if I want to download wma audiobooks.  Can I use my nano on macbook pro & windows laptop?  will I ever be able to download wma audiobooks to my nano using macbook?

Your iPod Nano will need to be restored in iTunes on the Windows laptop before you can start adding/syncing content over to it.
Or if you want to use it with OverDrive on the Mac, you'll need to download the books as MP3s as WMA is not supported.

  • Can't see brand new iPod Nano in Windows!!!

I just bought a brand new iPod Nano (2nd Gen) for my daughter for Christmas, and right out of the box it would not be recognized by Windows XP or iTunes -- even though another iPod Nano (1st Gen) that we own did connect. It was charging though.
I used this forum looking for answers and although helpful, there was an awful lot of misleading advice. I finally called the help line 1-800-275-2273 on this website http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
What I was told was to simply go through the reset process (which I had ignored because it seemed too simple). The steps are to flip the hold button a couple of times and then hold the menu and select (center) button down at the same time for 10 seconds. The iPod will power back up and be reset.
What this tells me is that Apple has a problem with the software originally loaded on these iPods, but at least this simple procedure solved the problem. I thought I would come back here and provide you with the solution to this problem -- hopefully saving you a lot of time! Good luck!!

I agree with you, Apple to me has some type of problem with their iPods. I've used some type of computer device since 1971, and in all this time, I have never used a device such as the iPod with so many quirks.
I tell you one thing the iPod makes you think!!! O;-D
I'm afraid to buy Apple Care because during the 1st year of owning an iPod you get support that really is not much help. Within the 1st year of owning an iPod, a customer can purchase the Apple Care Plan. The Apple Care Plan is only 2 years, and then you are on your own. If Apple had confidence in their iPod's, they would offer a longer warranty period.
The only thing I see Apple Care is good for is that if something catastrophic happen, they will pay for shipping and any parts that are needed to fix it.
Their stock is doing great. Where is the money going???

  • Itunes won't open and I can't share music

    OK
I have an emac 10.3.9. I have an external drive where I keep my music.
I was trying to find my shared library on my labtop that is connected to the same network. I can find other people's libraries. I can't find the emac library.
Now it just won't open. When I throw out my library file then it will. But this is the second time I have had to do it. Pain in the ***.

See this post if My Music is not in the list of special folders in TweakUI:

ALternatively you may be able to work round this by doing a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are asked to choose a library. Navigate to your iTunes folder and choose iTunes Library.itl. You can create a library if you don't already have one.

  • My iPhoto won't open and I can't download a new app.

My iPhoto won't open (having upgraded to Yosemite in Janurary 2015). When I try to open it it says that my version is not compatible with Yosemite and that I need to upgrade the app from the app store - but cannot find iPhoto on the app store.
I also do not have Photos installed, and similarly cannot find it on the app store.
I would really like to be able to retrieve my iPhoto library - will this be possible?
I have been backing up to an external hard-drive but don't know how/if I can retrieve my iPhoto from there if iPhoto no longer exists on most mac computers.
    Would appreciate some advice!

You need to upgrade to 10.10.3 - it's on software update.
That will give you the new Photos.app.
It will also be possible to download the up-to-date version of iPhoto:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • TS1717 iTunes won't open; only a small box that says "New iTunes Library"

When I try to open iTunes, it simple brings up a small box that says "New iTunes Library" and gives me no option but to exit out. What has happened? I installed the newest version of iTunes a few days ago onto my computer, and this morning was the first time I turned my machine on since the installation. My computer said that something was keeping it from starting normally, so it attempted to do a repair bootup. It told me that any newly installed programs were going to be uninstalled to help fix my computer, and apparently it uninstalled my iTunes. Now when I try to open iTunes, it only brings up a small box thatt says "New iTunes Library" and my only option is to exit out. Have I lost all my music? How can I remedy this problem?

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Can I charge a new iPod Nano 8 GB with a iPod Mini charger?

I gave my wife an iPod Nano (black, 8 GB) for christmas. After christmas we discovered, that there is no charger, it only charges when you connect it to a computer.
Unfortunately that is not how she uses her iPod. She doesn't use a computer. I pour her favorite music into the iPod, and that's it. 8 GB is more than adequate - she doesn't update the iPod frequently. Her last iPod (a Mini) had the same music for more than a year and a half - untill she lost it.
So ... I guess I could buy a charger for her. Og bring my Powerbbok home every night just to charge her iPod.
But we have the charger from her lost iPod Mini. Does any of you know, if we can use that? The charger has a firewire plug and the cable is firewire in one end and the other end fits perfectly in the Nano. However, I am afraid to fry the Nano.
    The charger says 12V .67A
The print on the iPod Nano reads 5-30V 1A Max.
    Kind regards,
    Peter

Yes, you can use the charger (and cable) that came with the mini to charge the nano.
    Cheers!

  • ITunes won't sync my Calendar or Contacts with my new iPod

I cannot get iTunes (V7.0.1) to Sync my Calendar and Contact info to my iPod. When I check the box and open the relevant item (ICal or Address Book) I am told that there are no items available to synchronise even though I can see them on my screen! I had started using my iPod by manually loading songs from iTunes and wondered if I needed to Sync anything else. However, having gone through the process of Synchronising my iTunes library between Mac and iPod, I was still unable to Sync Calendar and Address Book. I note that in the list beneath my iPod on the iTunes screen that there is no 'Contacts' folder although there are icons for 'Music', 'Movies' and 'TV Shows' and the usual 'My Top Played' etc. The iPod help pages are of no use as they tell me to do what I have already been doing without success. (I am advised that iSync is not used with later versions of iTunes.) Can anyone help?

  • HT1727 I lost my old iPod and bought a new one. The old one had many of MY personally owned and legally bought CDs on it. I have those iTunes backed up ant now I can't seem to "synch" them to the new iPod nano.

I can't seem to synch my new iPod nano to the legally purchased music from CDs that had been on my old iPod which I've lost.
I had a backup of all those iTunes that I want to import to the new nano.
How can I "synch" the new iPod nano to the music I see in an iTune library? The new iPod nano displays "no music" and
    doesn't play anything.

    Hello PrettyinPinkInk,
You might consider restoring the iPhone, then removing the SIM card after activating the iPhone, so as to use it as an iPod Touch. This should prevent any unwanted association with a phone number, and thus, voicemail, as well.
