Itunes won't open unless I disconnect the network/internet, why?

My Itunes won't open (after clicking the icon and seeing it running in task manager) until I disconnect the internet connection. How do I fix this? I have the latest version of Itunes and Quicktime installed.

a few questions before proceeding.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever when you try to launch itunes?
if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?
or are you seeing a brief "flash" of the itunes license screen (and then nothing)? if so, do you also see similar behavior when you try to launch your QuickTime?
or is it more that your itunes library screen appears, and then "freezes" (even without an ipod connected), and when you check on that in Task Manager, it says "Not responding" in there?

Delete the shortcut and make a new one. The 'real' application will probably be fine if you launch it from the Start/Programs menu.

I just got a new hard drive for my computer and the new operating system but now my itunes won't open and it says something about how the file can't be opened because it was created with a newer version. Help!

You music is safe. You should backup the library anyway.

This error prevents iTunes from launching. The library file was modified to work with the newer iTunes version, so it is no longer compatible with the previous version. The good news, however, is that Apple does backup the iTunes library file into a subdirectory that you can use to revert back to the previous version.
To recover a previous version of the iTunes Library.itl file, use the following steps:
Open up your My Documents\My Music folder.
We will first backup the current version. Rename iTunes Library.itl to something like iTunes Library.itl.bak.
Go into the My Documents\My Music\Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
You may see several files that start with iTunes Library and have a date included in the name. Copy the newest file in the folder.
Go back to the My Documents\My Music and paste the file from the previous step.
Rename the new copied file to iTunes Library.itl.
Your library should now be restored to the previous version of iTunes, and you should no longer receive the message.

Firefox won't open unless i close the one already open

and i see all my processes itunes is one of them and then i try to end the process and it wont work. the only thing i can to to close the process of itunes in the TM is turn off or reset my comp.
It is irritating as i have had this issue a few times before with version 6, but i just attributed to it to me closing a process or having too much open at once...since, that was usually the case.
Now its happening for no reason, as itunes will be the only thing i try to run. so if anyone has a similar issue and fixed it or has input. it is appreciated.

a preliminary question aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits: by any chance, do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?

iTune stopped opening on my laptop when connected to my work network. It will still open when connected to my home network or disconnected from a network.

I could install Itunes and Quicktime, I already tried the msconfig solutions but it doesn't work. I have a ipod with video and I can't get it to work because itunes won't open.
It displays the license agreement and after I agree it displays error message "Can't find itunes folder or can't be created and is needed for Itunes to work. This is normally located under My music folder".
I tried to create manually the folder, and still doesn't work.
Can you help me with this or tell me if I can use another application to transfer video and photos to my Ipod?

Quicktime won't update, itunes won't open...having no luck :(

I'm getting an error message when I try to download the current quicktime. iTunes won't open without it. The error message is below:
It says "Could not open key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
I tried a link that was posted in another discussion about manually editing the registry and it did not change anything. I still get the same error message. I've actually looked over quite a few suggestions in other discussions (like deleting quicktime all over the place and trying to reinstall it) and nothing seems to work. I finally was able to get the newest version of itunes downloaded. However, when I go to launch itunes it will not open b/c it says that i need the newest version of quicktime (which i cannot download). When I try to download it via standalone, it gives me a new error message similar to the original except now the location is QuickTime.QuickTime rather than QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp. Before I uninstalled QT, I was able to edit the registry for the QT Player LIb and App. Since they did nothing I unistalled it again. However, after I uninstalled it, (and reinstalled just itunes which it finally updated) I tried to reinstall and it would not install because the new error message is the most resent one above... in the registry it will not let me change/save any permissions changes to QuickTime.QuickTime. I've again tried to uninstall it but now QT isn't there at all. I've been at this thing for a week and nothing seems to be working... any suggestions? I would love help!!!!
Oh, and I don't know if this will help at all, but I have an ipod mini from like 2003... when I couldn't get itunes to update at all to the current version I decided to uninstall itunes and my ipod mini... so then i had to reinstall my ipod with the cd software that came with it which also installed itunes... it worked fine and would open... then I tried to update itunes again and somehow i managed to get it to update itunes... however, when i go to launch itunes it won't let me b/c of the version of quicktimes i currently have. I don't know why this error occurs, unless you have attempted to downgrade iTunes.
This method should get you up and running again.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

ITunes won't open because the library file is locked

The iTunes 4 Music Library file is locked, on a locked disc, or I do not have write permission, what do I do? It was working perfectly until I plugged in my iPod. I waited, the iPod did not appear. The computer then told me that I had improperly disconnected it, yet I didn't touch it. So at that point I did disconnect it. My computer froze, so I restarted it and now iTunes won't open. Help!

welcome to the Apple Discussions open the iTunes folder in your Music folder and select the iTunes 4 Music Library file... type cpmmand - D and this will duplicate the file... put the original file on the desktop and change the name of the duplicate to be the same as one you just moved ... double/click on this file after the name change... if all is okay you can trash the file on the desktop later..

Accidentally disconnected ipod, now itunes won;t open

i accidentally disconnected my ipod, and had to force quit itunes (i have Mac Book pro, running a Mac OS).
No, itunes won't open when i click it in the bar, and when i try to open it with the finder, it just says "an unxpected error occurred (error code -600).
Help?
