Itunes won't open with 10.4 Upgrade

Since upgrading to Itunes 10.4 my Library will not open, I have tried "running as administrator" and it worked for like 5 min and then crashed again. Still will not open.

You definitely need to free up HD space. My computer uses 6GB for running Tiger. I always try to leave 18GB free. Some say "15% of HD size" but that (IMHO) is a very vague suggestion in these days where people run anything from 20 - 1000 GB HDs. I checked how much HD my computer was using in Activity Monitor and the virtual memory stats., then tripled that so the computer wouldn't be slow hunting for space.
If you don't free up space Tiger will likely crash and maybe corrupt your drive in the process. Your computer may also slow to a crawl. Lots of G4 owners run Tiger but find they have to upgrade RAM and HD from original.

  • ITunes Won't Open With iPhone or iPad

I do want iTunes to launch when my iPhone and iPad are connected.  That option is checked in the summery under devices.  But iTunes won't launch.  Don't know if this is aniPhone/iPad problem or iTunes. Any help most welcome.

you have to connect your phone, then it's in the summary of your phone, not in itunes preferences. uncheck the 'open itunes automatically' then recheck it. of course you might have to manually launch itunes first if you are having the problem of it not launching automatically.
edit to say i just realized that i responded to you that your solution to go to itunes preferences worked for me, now i just realized that the above way is different. sorry. but the way i said does work.

  • ITunes won't open after I declined upgrade

I opened iTunes and was in the iTunes store when the upgrade window popped up. I clicked to continue without downloading and iTunes shut down. Now I cannot get the application to open. I tried the tabs pinned to my taskbar, the desktop and the start menu. I also tried plugging in my iPod hoping it would kick-start the program; my computer recognized the device but will not play or open iTunes.
Did I somehow uninstall the program by declining the upgrade???

    Hey boardxawesome,
Thanks for the question. That definitely sounds frustrating. The following article provides some helpful troubleshooting steps:

If the issue is still not resolved, it may be best to remove iTunes and its related components, then reinstall:

  • Itunes won't open with converter

I installed a converting program called WinAVI and ever since then I cannot open Itunes or Quicktime. I uninstalled and reinstalled both quicktime and itunes several times and ran many virus scans with norton and lavasoft. I also uninstalled the WinAVI converting program before reinstalling Itunes the last time, but Itunes and quicktime will still not open. I dont know how many times I have reinstalled itunes and feel I may be over the 5 limit, so I don't want to toy around with that anymore. I would appreciate any help to fix this problem because it's driving me crazy over here.

feel I may be over the 5 limit
The 5 limit applies to the number of computers authorized to play purchased songs from one iTunes account. It has nothing to do with whether you can install iTunes or not.
Remove iTunes and QuickTimes via Start -> Control Panel - Add/Remove programs.
Then use this -> Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove any "left over" bits of those, then reinstall.

  • Iphoto won't open with new Yosemite upgrade

I just updated my iMac to the OS X Yosemite.  I couldn't open iPhoto, so I did what it said, which was to install the iPhoto upgrade.  Once I did that, I tried to open it again, and got the message, "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared."  I clicked "Learn more" and was told to use the iPhoto Library Upgrader so I downloaded the upgrader too.  Unfortunately, it still doesn't work and I'm still get the previous message, "To open your library...if first needs to be prepared."  Have any of you had this issue?  How did you fix it?  Please help!

Open the Mac App Store and check to see if there are any new updates, chances are you may have missed the iPhoto update and other iLife updates for Yosemite. If your problem still persists then rebuild the iPhoto library follow Apple's instructions located in iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library

  • ITunes won't open due to software upgrade requirement, but no upgrades are available

When I go to open iTunes, a window pops up reading:
"The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?"
The only options are "Quit" and "Download iTunes," and when I click on "Download iTunes," Software Update pops up, and after checking for new software, it says there is no update available, and I can't open iTunes.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • My iTunes won't open on the new ios7

my iTunes won't open with the new iOS7. it will start to open then crash.

    Hi Kori,
Close all apps: Double click on the Home button, then swipe up on the mini screens displayed above each open app.
Reset your device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your iTunes will open.
    Cheers,

  • ITunes won't open after upgrading to 11

My girlfriend's iPad mini is disabled, so I'm trying to connect it to her old macbook (10.6.8), the one which it is associated with.  Upon plugging in the iPad, I was prompted to update iTunes, because the iPad is running iOS 7 and needs the latest version of iTunes.  I said ok, and iTunes upgraded to 11.
Now, iTunes will not start.  When i click on the icon, it bounces once and then nothing else happens.  I've tried restarting, creating new accounts, and deleting all the com.apple.itunes preference files, but it's not working.  What the ****?  I can't undisable the iPad because iTunes won't start.  How do I fix this?

After updating to OSX 10.9.3, my iTunes won't open. If I try to drag it to trash, I get the message "iTunes can't be modified or deleted because it is required by OS X".

  • After upgrading to iTunes 8.0.2, iTunes won't open at all

I used to use iTunes 7.0.4 and recently tried updating to 8.0.2. Once I installed the new upgrade, iTunes won't open! I double click, use the Run feature, etc etc without any luck. I also tried to re-install an earlier version of iTunes but for whatever reason that won't download correctly. I am hesitant to un-install and then re-install for fear of losing my entire library - any suggestions??
    Thanks so much in advance!

Had the same problem with the new update. I finally got back to my previous version by using system restore. After the restore I had to go to the "All Programs" list and click on Quicktime and iTunes individually to allow them to re-configure, then had to restart the computer again. After that all's well. My lbrary was intact.
I tried everything to get the newest version to work, including completely uninstalling my current versions of QT and iTunes, then downloading the latest directly from the Apple website, but, after 3 attempts, nothing worked. Guess I'll have to wait for the next update and try again.
By the way, your library is not actually stored in iTunes--it is stored in your Music folder, so you should not lose anything by uninstalling iTunes if you need to.

  • ITunes won't open after upgrade. Help!!!!

I looked under Processes in my Task Managaer and I see iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe but I don't know whats going on.
    Pleeeeeeeease heeeeeeeeeelp.
I love my iPod too much for it to be out of commission.

okay. it's way rarer to get this sort of thing due to NIS 2006 than it is with 2005, but it has been known to happen.
try the technique from the following bbecker post. (heads-up ... it's taking a long time for that post in that thread to load for properly for some folks. so leave it to think for a few minutes until it's loaded fully, otherwise you might not see the correct post.)

  • ITunes won't open after installing upgrade and restarting

When I click on my iTunes icon in the dock, iTunes won't open. Instead, a message box comes up: "The file iTunes "library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."
Just before this happened, I imported a lot of music into my library. Now iTunes only opens if I pIug my ipod into my Mac.
Is there any way I can get iTunes to open by clicking on the icon, as it used to do?

What version of iTunes is installed in the Apple default location ..... /Applications/iTunes ???
Drag the iTunes icon in the Dock to the Desktop and release; it will be deleted with a poof! Don't worry it's only an alias.
In your Home Page ~/Library/Preferences/ ......... drag to the Trash and delete:
    com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
(don't worry ... new ones will be created upon relaunch of iTunes .... +see below+)
    Using: /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions
    RESTART the computer
Within the Applicatons folder: double-click the iTunes icon ... if the launch is successful, drag a copy of the iTunes icon to the Dock ... release ... you will now have a current alias in the Dock.
P.S. *Do Not* have the iPod connected to the computer during this process!

  • Itunes won't open after software upgrade

I just upgraded itunes form version 4.x to version 6. on my girlfriends windows laptop.
Now itunes won't open past the licence agreement.
Actually itunes quits before i can agree to the licence agreement.
I looked at this article. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42963
    this didn't resolve the issue.
When itunes quits there are no error messages.
    Any ideas
    Thanks

are you getting absolutely no error messages whatsover? are you seeing similar behavior when you try to launch your QuickTime?
if so, check for a Qoologic adware infestation on your PC. the free trial version of Ewido has been catching and killing that for most folks:
