Itunes won't open without quicktime installation

My itunes won't budge. It says the new quicktime 7.13 needs to be installed. I've went through the same process downloading it about 3 times. At the end of every one it says "Can not download, the new verison is present on this computer." (something along those lines you get the picture). But everytime I click on itunes or a music file the same message about quicktime appears and it tells me to reinstall itunes, which I've done as well.
Someone have any idea what's going on?

No, the iTunes program itself is in a completely different Windows folder than the actual music files.
But you SHOULD back up your music files, ya know.
Anyway. Do a QuickTime standalone install.
Make sure to turn off your security software (norton or whatever) before saving the file to your hard drive.
Then run QuickTimeSetup.exe from your hard drive.

  • ITunes won't open without Quicktime

Recently, I was in the process of upgrading iTunes. Something came up and I had to cancel the upgrade. Now, when I go to open iTunes, it says that I need a higher version of Quicktime, and to try re-installing iTunes. I know this is probably a stupid question, but if I reinstall iTunes, I won't lose all my music, will I?

  • Updated iTunes--won't open without agreeing to Ping

Just updated iTunes and tried to open it. Got a message saying I had signed up for Ping, and I hadn't. Not interested in Ping, declined agreement but iTunes won't open to let me proceed without Ping. Why can't I just decline and proceed without it? All topics are about getting rid of it after accepting. Am I able to avoid it in the first place?
    Thanks!

okay, it's plausible that you've got two different problems going on at once here.
underlying it might be a version of a drive letter confusion:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
(see also the link to the MS KB doc)
... which is working so that either your My Music folder has either accidentally made its way on to the ipod, or that it's only being seen when the ipod is plugged in.
when it's not being seen, you get the problem described in this document:
iTunes for Windows: "Disk is locked" or "iTunes folder cannot be found" when installing or opening iTunes
... is there any particular reason why you have to have your "My Music" folder on your F drive, rather than your C drive?

  • ITunes won't open after QuickTime update (Windows XP)

    Hi all,
Yesterday I was prompted by Apple Software Update to install the newest version of QuickTime, and I always comply. However, after the update now iTunes will not open at all! No error message, just the hourglass cursor for a few seconds to indicate that it's loading, then a regular cursor... and then nothing.
I tried connecting my iPod Touch since it's configured to auto-sync upon connect, still won't open. I then googled the problem and came across some methods that I don't want to try just yet, since they involve reinstalling iTunes. Also tried uninstalling Bonjour from the Add/Remove Programs menu, but this apparent solution did not work either.
I run Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 32-bit. This started happening after I updated to QuickTime 7.7 (from 7.6 I believe). Is there a fix for this problem without reinstalling? If possible, I don't want to lose my library settings. Thanks!

Could you check something further for me please, df? Is your QuickTime Player also currently failing to launch (with or without an error message)?

  • After Update ITUNES Won't Open, Apparent Quicktime Problem, PLEASE HELP

I Have recently updated my Itunes, after installation of the updates I was unable to access itunes due to a problem with Quicktime. After trying to repair quicktime, with no luck, I have uninstalled (following Apple’s support system). There were two programs labelled “Apple Application Support”, one allowed me to delete and the other older one didn’t delete and came up with the prompts below, so I just installed itunes/quicktime again. The same response happened when trying to open itunes. So I followed Apple’s support system and deleted all I could again. What was left is below, any help would be extremely useful.
In “Uninstall or Change a Program” of windows 7, I was unable to delete Version 1.1.0 which is 32.3 MB installed on the 03/03/2010 of the Apple Application Support.
*When deleting it comes up with a box that says:*
+The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.+
+Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package ‘appleApplicationSupport.msi’ in the below box.+
    C:UsersSeanAppDataLocalTempIXP722.TMP
I could only follow the path to the “Temp” part …\IXP722.TMP does not exist in that folder.
_Any Help with this problem would be Greatly appreciated._

This kind of problem often responds to using the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility. Here is a method:
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista and Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Itunes won't open since tiger installation

    Installed Tiger 10.4.6 disc yesterday
opened itunes and it said I needed 10.4.11
    updated to 10.4.11
now itunes (7.6) will not start and does not give an error message at all
    Have tried,
-opening from another user: no luck
-deleting com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist, com.apple.iTunes.plist from preferences: no luck
-deleting and reinstalling itunes 7.7. Install process will not start either
-deleting quicktime and er-installing. Quicktime install process will not start
-repair disk permissions...repaired a bunch of permissions, itunes won't start still
    Thanks!

Try launching iTunes directly from your Applications folder. If that works, quit iTunes, drag the iTunes Dock item to the Trash, and then replace it by dragging iTunes from your Applications folder to the Dock.

  • ITunes Won't Open Without iPod Connected To Computer

Up until a day or so ago, I was able to open iTunes without the iPod attached. Now when I try to do so, it says the iTunes folder cannot be found or created and that the default location is in the "My Music" folder. When I then attach the iPod to the computer, everything works great. With the iPod attached and iTunes open, I changed the iTune preferences to reflect my actual music folder location (F:\My Music), but I still cannot get it to open without the iPod attached.

  • ITunes won't open, now Quicktime is giving me a hard time!

    Hi,
i've been having some problems with my iTunes lately; when I try to open it, it immediately shuts down and then I'm asked wether or not I want to send a bugreport.
After getting no reply to the report, I started looking around on this discussion forum to solve my problem (no music = no fun!). I tried reinstalling Quicktime as this seemed to be a good solution.
After deleting all of my Quicktime files, now I can't even reinstall it and when I try to do so, Safari just stops and I get a crash-report!
    Any help?
    Thx,
    Yann

    hi yann s!
After deleting all of my Quicktime files, now I can't even reinstall it and when I try to do so, Safari just stops and I get a crash-report!
just checking: are you installing on a Mac or a PC? all the following instructions are PC-specific (you're over in one of the windows parts of Discussions).
hmmm. sounds like you're running the install "on-line" which raises the probability of running into odd problems.
let's try the standalone QT 7.0.3 install again, but we'll take a few additional precautions. for those precautions see:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1211023#1211023
if you get an error message on the careful reinstall, let us know what it says. (include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • ITunes won't open because Quicktime was not found!

This is the first time this error came up, when i open iTunes, an error comes up saying "QuickTime Unavaliable" and how i have to uninstall iTunes and install it again... Well i did that a million times and uninstall quicktime and installed quicktime over and over and over and over agaim and this error keeps popping up!!! I NEED HELP!!! This error has no number, it just says i need to uninstall tinues and reinstall it!

If you definitely have a working QuickTime but iTunes thinks that you7 do not, then this points to a particular type of error.
Do you have a computer that has been set up for a work network? You may find that iTunes works OK when the computer is connected to the network but doesn't at home when not connected.
There are other possibilities, but this is a common one.
If I have guessed right, the problem lies in the %path% environment variable. In order to look at its contents, could you do the following:
    Type:
    cmd
into your search box and click cmd under Programs.
The black cmd window will open.
Next copy&paste the following into the cmd window and press return:
    echo %path% >documents\path.txt
This will place the contents of the %path% variable in a text file called Path in (My) Documents.
Could you copy&paste this text file into your next post so I can look at it.
(Use ctrl V to paste into the editor, right click doesn't work.)

  • ITunes won't open without ipod attached

I recently updated iTunes to 7.0.1. If I attempt to open iTunes without having my iPod attached it opens but before I can do any thing it is forced closed. A dialogue box pops up informing me that iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to be closed, I'm given the option to report the problem to Microsoft and close or just close. is anyone else encountering this?

  • Itunes won't open! Repeated Installs & Unistalls  Help! Help!

I've been trying all weekend!! One message I get is "The cabinet file 'AppleMobileDevceSupport.cab' required for installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error an error reading from the CD-Rom, or a problem with this pa..."
Does anyone know how I can fix this???
    Thanks.

Hmm not sure about this one.
I would download a fresh copy of iTunes from
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Make sure you save the file to your desktop rather than trying to run it from your browser.
Then follow the advice in the following article on trouble installing iTunes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Go to the section at the end headed: General Installation Troubleshooting
Make sure you do the bit about emptying your temporary directory. It is possible that there is a corrupt file hanging around in your temp directory.

  • Quicktime won't update, itunes won't open...having no luck :(

I'm getting an error message when I try to download the current quicktime. iTunes won't open without it. The error message is below:
It says "Could not open key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
I tried a link that was posted in another discussion about manually editing the registry and it did not change anything. I still get the same error message. I've actually looked over quite a few suggestions in other discussions (like deleting quicktime all over the place and trying to reinstall it) and nothing seems to work. I finally was able to get the newest version of itunes downloaded. However, when I go to launch itunes it will not open b/c it says that i need the newest version of quicktime (which i cannot download). When I try to download it via standalone, it gives me a new error message similar to the original except now the location is QuickTime.QuickTime rather than QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp. Before I uninstalled QT, I was able to edit the registry for the QT Player LIb and App. Since they did nothing I unistalled it again. However, after I uninstalled it, (and reinstalled just itunes which it finally updated) I tried to reinstall and it would not install because the new error message is the most resent one above... in the registry it will not let me change/save any permissions changes to QuickTime.QuickTime. I've again tried to uninstall it but now QT isn't there at all. I've been at this thing for a week and nothing seems to be working... any suggestions? I would love help!!!!
Oh, and I don't know if this will help at all, but I have an ipod mini from like 2003... when I couldn't get itunes to update at all to the current version I decided to uninstall itunes and my ipod mini... so then i had to reinstall my ipod with the cd software that came with it which also installed itunes... it worked fine and would open... then I tried to update itunes again and somehow i managed to get it to update itunes... however, when i go to launch itunes it won't let me b/c of the version of quicktimes i currently have. Thanks in advance for any help!

so i tried to download the windows installer update from the link you gave me but now i'm getting a different error and it won't let me download the installer. The error reads:
    Windows Script Host
    Script: C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\StartMsl.vbs
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
Error: ActiveX component can't create object: 'Scripting.FileSystemObject"
    Code: 800A01AD
    Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error
I have no idea what this means or how to fix it. Please help!

  • ITunes 7.6.2 won't open after Quicktime update! Help!

    Hello,
I just updated Quicktime through Software update and now iTunes won't open. It bounces in the dock, stop and shows the light underneath in the dock, the colored disc mouse spins for 10 or 15 seconds and then it quits before any windows open. Then the Apple error comes up saying iTunes unexpectedly quit etc.
What do I do? I've tried reinstalling iTunes but nothing works! Help!
    Thanks in advance.

Could you check something further for me please, df? Is your QuickTime Player also currently failing to launch (with or without an error message)?

  • ITunes won't open due to Quicktime error

I recently updated iTunes, and iTunes won't open. It says
"Quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quicktime version 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes."
Well, I tried redownloading iTunes and just the latest Quicktime, but I keep getting the message.
I tried clearing my temp files but nothing else will work. Do I have to uninstall iTunes completely, and if so, what do I do about my library?

"Quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quicktime version 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes."
let's try swapping out your QuickTime again. we'll take a few additional explicit precautions this time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • ITunes won't open after installation

I realize many have had the same problem of not being able to open iTunes after installing the 7.2 upgrade. However, I haven't gotten an error message at all, it just won't open. Quicktime is working fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

It appears and then disappears after a few seconds.
okay. this (in conjunction with your other symptoms) is sounding like a digital signing issue with drivers on your PC that i've been seeing since the late iTunes 6.0.x days.
try running through the "Resolution" section from the following document:
Detecting digital signing issues in Windows XP
does your itunes start launching again?
(if so, it might be a good idea to download fresh definitions and run some vigorous spyware and virus scans. the initial deregistering of the dlls can be caused by malware.)
