ITunes won't pickup iPhone after downloading latest software

I recently downloaded the latest iTunes software 10.5.2 on my macbook pro and now my iphone won't register when I plug it in.
iTunes opens but it won't show any devices.
I've googled it and it seems a number of others have had similar problems.  Some advised to trash the iTunes version and reinstall it but others said they did this and it worked for the first instance but after rebooting iTunes didn't pickup the iphone again.
Before I attempt this, has anyone out there had this issue and knows how to solve it?

You have to upgrade to 10.6.8 to be able to download iTunes 11.  The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. After you’ve installed that then use the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space
DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.

Anyone having problems getting CD covers to print after downloading latest software?

Lacking any responses to my initial post above, I will briefly update how I resolved this issue today.
Installed new external hard disc, 1 TB WD My Passport for Mac, and straightforward setup involving first installing current OS X operating system, then system migrator utility to rebuild the same setup as saved in latest Time Machine backup. The whole process was somewhat time consuming due to my internet connection speed and USB data transfer speeds but it went without any issues. The computer now boots up and operates identical in all respects to how it did before the problem occurred.
Regarding the internal HD of my iMac, if I now run Disc Utility to verify the disc, it reports "appears to be OK". However, viewing the disc usage in "About This Mac" window, it displays as entirely empty. Opening it in the finder also shows only a "Apple Hot News.mbox" file and a single .jpeg image, and .nothing else.
Interestingly, the Bootcamp partition of my iMac's internal HD continues to work fine and appears unaffected by the problem. I use bootcamp rarely but still will plan to set up a replacement bootcamp volume on the new hard disc soon, in order to take its place.
That the problem surfaced coincident with the software update may have been nothing more than bad luck? At this point I have no reason to suspect that the softward update had anything to do with the difficulties.

  • ITunes won't install update after downloading Yosemite

I downloaded Yosemite today and now my iTunes won't open because apparently the version I had doesn't work with Yosemite.  After I clicked "Install" for iTunes in the App Store (so I could get the latest version) it stays "paused" in the download process and won't resume the download.

    Hi, kdub5.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you can not update iTunes due to a .msi error.  I would recommend uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components as outlined in the first article below.  For any component that gives you the .msi error, go through the steps in the second article below.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" alert appears when you remove Apple software in Windows
    Cheers,

  • IMac unable to restart after downloading latest software update (including iTunes 11.2)

My system is a mid-2007 iMac (Intel) with latest software updates always promptly installed (OSX Mavericks, etc) and 320 GB internal HD, 4GB Ram.
Today the software updater informed me that an update to iTunes was available and so I allowed it to download the update and then restart the computer. The restart was not successful - the computer display will show the status window progressing as the update is installed and then nears completion, but will freeze at the apparant point of completion and the restart will not complete. I tried restarting several times and it always hangs up and does not complete.
I then ran the Disc Utilities program - first time I ran it, it identified disc problems with the internal HD  and proceeded to repair them. Following that I trried to restartt and it ran into the same difficulties and did not restart. Subsequently I ran disc utilities and it reports the internal HD to be fine. I've also tried several times to boot the computer and restore from my Time Machine backups and it will not complete the restore. I do get to the screens where I can select the volume to restore from, the volume to restore to, and so forth. After these efforts were not successful, I finally tried to re-download OSX and do a clean system restore, it progressed nearly to completion and then aborted the system installation without completing.
Since having this problem I've therefore been unable to use the computer in Mac mode. I had just about concluded that my hard disc must be replaced, when I decided to see if I could restart running Windows (bootcamp), and I was able to do that successfully. The hard disc is therefore not damaged, or at least the partition of the hard disc used by Windows is not damaged.
Is my most likely option to replace the hard disc or is there something I can still do, in order to see if the hard disc can be restored using a saved backup, before I replace it?
I have the further complication of finding that the Apple store will not replace the hard disc for my computer because it is over 5 years old. I can probably locate a shop such as Best Buy locally who can do that, or I can simply purchase an external hard disc and use that as my primary hard disc until I either replace the internal hard disc or simply replace the computer. Since it is a 7 year old iMac, it would not be surprising to have to replace the hard disc after this length of time. I also see that there are instructions available online to explain how to replace the internal hard disc myself, but I'm unsure at this point whether or not I want to do it myself.

  • ITunes won't recgonize iPhone after failed upgrade

I was trying to sync my iPhone 3GS when I was prompted to upgrade it. I went ahead and clicked yes to upgrade it. I left the computer and whe I returned about an hour later it asked me to enter my passcode so I did. Then it did its thing for about 30 minutes before telling me there was an unkwown error while upgrading it. During that time the screen on the iphone switched to the image of the usb cord with an arrow poining at the iTunes logo. I restarted my computer and disconnected and reconnected my iphone and now iTunes won't even read it and my iPhone won't do anything other than display that same image of the usb cord and iTunes logo. I'm totally frustrated here. Help! I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, iTunes version 10.6.1.7.
I know the cable is fine because it reads my iPhone 4S just fine. I tried restarting and relaunching iTunes and I've also tried holding the power button and home button down for 10 seconds and nothing on the phone's end.

Thanks, I tried this but also did not work. What finally worked was that on a whim I decided to switch to a different usb port and then it read it. I didn't try this at first because my other iphone was being read from the original port and the computer recognized both devices from that original port. It doesn't make sense. But I got it to finally work just by swtiching to a different port and now I can sync it from the original port.

  • Why do I have to restore my iphone after this latest software update?

I have just synced my iphone 5, and downloaded/updates it to the latest software update which was available, but now it wants me to restore my phone to factory settings???? Why this time, it hasn't ever asked asked me to do this before?  Is it safe?

restore to factory settings mean deleting everything you put on the phone making it as it were when it was shipped from the factory

  • Problem after downloading latest software update

Just downloaded the latest software update and it has totally fried my Z10. Can't turn it on, doesn't charge. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi Agrajag17,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
Was the software update interupted at all? Was it a wireless update and was your BlackBerry Z10 smartphone connected to a power source during the update?
Do you see an LED light when you connect it to a power source and try removing and reinserting the battery again?
I look forward to your response.

  • ITunes won't recognize IPHONE after new computer loaded from TM...

    Hey all:
I had an unfortunate meltdown of my reliable 5 year old macbook and the logic board fried; luckily I was able to save the HD and when I bought my new macbook pro (wow, what an upgrade) and loaded it from the drive via 'transfer' on initialization, my ITUNES could no longer recognize either my IPHONE or my IPAD; I can still see the backups in the preference pane, but have been unable to have ITUNES acknowledge their presence. Any idea? Thanks
    Ger

Additional details. I plugged in my phone, it was recognized and syncing as expected, but was stuck. After about 30 minutes I stopped the sych. That is when my problems occurred a few days ago. I have rebooted, re-installed, followed the directions on apple support - including the 6 step uninstall and the stuff following msconfig.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPhone after swapping At&t SIM cards

I had an old At&t phone that was dead that I wanted to import the contacts on its SIM card into my iPhone. First I just popped out my current SIM card and placed the old one into my iPhone. Before I imported the contacts to my iPhone I connected to my Mac, and iTunes did not recognize the phone. I did the phone reset and restarted the computer to no avail. I put my current SIM card back into the phone and did all the same things and still nothing. After that, I followed the instructions on this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747?viewlocale=en_US
That worked. So I then backed up my iPhone since it was acting screwy, and then popped out the SIM card and put the older SIM card in and imported the contacts. When I tried to connect my phone, it did not recognize again. I re-did every single step that I listed above multiple times and no luck. I went into the phone's control panel and just did a total wipe/reset. When my phone gave me the iTunes logo and USB image telling me to connect to iTunes to activate, iTunes still didn't recognize the phone. I uninstalled iTunes several times and have repaired permissions just for grins and still I can't get iTunes to recognize my phone. What gives??

What version of iTunes are you running?

  • Itunes won't play mp3 after downloaded from firefox, but it does play it from Chrome

I download an mp3 in Firefox, which is current--31.0.  I click on the download, iTunes opens it but it doesn't play it or even load it into iTunes.  When I download an mp3 from Chrome, it opens iTunes just fine and plays the song.  I have checked my add-ons and I have the iTunes applications detector in my plug-ins.  This is a brand new computer, so that probably has something to do with it.  I'm running Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo Ideapad.  I would appreciate any help with this problem as my job deal with music frequently and I use Firefox most often.  Thank you.

The headers on the problem tracks may be corrupted or nonstandard. This can happen with some MP3 conversion or import utilities, and iTunes is very picky about headers. If you search the web for "mp3 repair" you'll find some repair tools. Most are for Windows, but here's one for Mac that I've seen mentioned:
    Mp3 Validator Mac version
I haven't tried it so I can't attest to how well (or indeed if) it will work.
    Hope this helps.
