ITunes won't play my music in library or in store?

Suddenly today I logged on my computer and wanted to listen to music. However, when I hit play, nothing happens.  It shows it's "playing" a song, but the sound doesn't play and the time bar doesn't actually move.  I wondered if it was just limited to my library but when I go into the store and try to hear synopses of songs, it doesn't let me do that either.  How frustrating!  I downloaded the newest update thinking it was probably that, but after the update it is still the same.  Anyone know what gives? Any help is appreciated!!

Sorry about the delay.
I don't have a Vista PC in front of me. (The noir household(s) Vista box is in North Carolina.) The way the audio control panels work in Vista is different from XP, so there's significant limits to how far I can walk you through detailed troubleshooting here.
But one thing has sprung to mind as being worth a shot.
Go "Start > Control Panel". If your control panels are in category view, click on Classic View. Launch the QuickTime control panel, go to the Audio tab.
In there, check "Safe mode (waveOut only)", and click OK. Restart iTunes if you had it open.
Do songs play if you have safe mode engaged?

  • ITunes won't play my music unless it's on shuffle

My ITunes will only play my music (from one song to the next without stopping) if it's on shuffle. This is even if the songs are checked. Otherwise, I have to go back each song and click the next song. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.8.5 (desktop) and MAC OSX 10.9.5 (laptop). Is there an answer to this?

Try to go through this check list http://www.copytrans.net/helpcopytrans.php#22 it's pretty complete.

  • ITunes won't play my music. Help!

I recently uninstalled quicktime. That seemed to make my iTunes stop working. But I've reinstalled it and it still doesn't work. I also uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes itself and it STILL won't play my songs. Any suggestions?
    HP   Windows XP

iTunes and quicktime are a bundled thing, iTunes uses parts of quicktime in the background to play audio and video. Try uninstalling iTunes AND quicktime, then download the latest iTunes from apple.com Disable your antivirus and install it (Installing iTunes installs quicktime too). Doing this is to make sure both iTunes and quicktime are current and up to date.
If it still will not play music, see if the progress bar is moving while it plays a song, even tho you hear no sound. Try going to, in windows, control panel>quicktime>audio tab and make sure "Safemode" is checked.

  • ITunes won't play my music files now

When I open up iTunes, it will no longer play any of the music files in my library. When I click on any song in my library, the file appears in the area at the top of the window where the song-in-play usually appears. However, it does not start; the little diamond does not progress through the song. The iPod however plays everything fine. I have a PC with Windows XP and have been told that it could be my drivers. I am lost as to what I need to do here. Can anyone please help?
    Forever grateful for any help,
    Greg

Well anything is better than version 7. It was totally unusable.
7.1 is an improvement but songs cut out for me. The dialio thingy shows that it's still playing, just no sound. I pause it and restart, the song continues. Sometimes this will happen three times in a row then not for several minutes. There also seems to be a clicking sound every now and then as well.
Yes I've tried switching it between 24 and 16 bit, no difference.
It's a shame as I really enjoy using itunes. I think Apple should stop using work experience kids to program their windows products. I was considering buying an Apple until this itunes debacle.

  • ITunes won't play my music.

I've looked through the related articles posted here on the Apple website, but none of it helped.
iTunes used to work for me, no problem whatsoever - suddenly, out of the blue, one day when I was going to listen to music, it wouldn't play.
I double click on a song, but the diamond doesn't move, and the play button remains a play button no matter how many times I press it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes plenty of times. Still, it doesn't work.
Another thing is, in the iTunes Store all the pictures are black. I think it has to do with Quicktime, because when I trried to open Quicktime a few minutes ago, my computer reads the following:
    Buffer overrun detected!
    Program C:\Program FileQuicktime\QuicktimePlayer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
I've tried to download Quicktime from here, but it just gives me an iTunes+Quicktime download, which is what I already have.
Can anybody help me? I'ma little computer impaired, so, excuse my slowness if I don't understood you at first.
Thank you for the help, if any.

  • ITunes movies won't play after backing up library

I recently ran out of hard drive space on my macbook pro so I decided to move my iTunes library to an external hard drive to make space. Since doing so the movies that I bought on Itunes won't play. Everything else is fine. The music plays but the TV shows and movies won't play. There was an error message the first time that I tried to play it but I have never seen it again and I didn't write it down. Something about a file missing. Has anyone successfully fixed a similar problem?

so I decided to move my iTunes library to an external hard drive to make space
I'm guessing you moved the /iTunes media/ folder to the external yourself?

    iTunes prefs - Reset warnings.
Double click a movie to play it.
When it comes up and asks if you want to locate it, click Yes, then go to /iTunes/iTunes media/Movies on the external and find the movie.

  • All of a sudden, my iTunes won't play music.

All of a sudden my iTunes won't play anything in the store or my library. Updates are done and my windows computer is authorized. It has worked fine in the past and then all of a sudden, I click play and nothing plays. I can play music and video in other programs except itunes. Volume is up also. It won't play at all. Any suggestions???

    I would suggest first,
looking for the files (not in iTunes but on the desktop. If you find the files they've simply been removed from iTunes. - If you can't find the files they've been erased and there's not a lot that can be done.
Removing files from and iPod is another question. Firstly, it IS difficult, but it can be done. There are numerous tutorials on the web on how to do it.
    Regards,
    Peter.

  • I upgraded to the latest iTunes 10.2.2.12 and now it won't play any music. I can do everything else, except play music. I'm on Windows 7. Any ideas?

i had this problem and finally figured it out. all that you need to do is go to your start menu and click on computer. select your main drive, (local drive) c usually. Next open the users file follow by your user name file, which is just like it sound it is a file labled as whatever your name is as you have it on your computer. Then you open up the AppData file. Next open the Roaming file. After that open the Apple Computer file followed by the iTunes file. Now you should see the folder labled iTunes Plug-ins folder. Now just Delete that folder. After that go to your iTunes and play your music.
If for some reason you don't see the AppData file you need to go to the upper left of your screen on select organize. a drop down menu will appear and you need to select folder and searc options. a small folder options window will appear. in this window you need to select the view tab. you need to select the show hidden files, folders, and drives bubble. now hit apply and then ok. that will allow the AppData folder to be seen.

    Hey guys, here's my problem.
I had some major issues with OSX last week that a trip to the Apple Store couldn't fix. Their only advice was to save all my pictures, music, documents, etc. and reformat. I did that yesterday. I reinstalled everything and then downloaded all the most recent updates.
Today, I can play all the music I own in iTunes (music imported from CDs, bought from other sites, and music bought from iTunes itself). However, it won't play any of the music videos I have (all bought off iTunes).
I have authorized the computer again and again. When I try to open the videos in Quicktime it tells me that I don't have permission to play them and that I need to authorize the computer.
    I'm lost. Any help?

Yup, this Audio but no Video WAS exactly the same trouble I was having, on my MacBook and iMac but not the other 2 MacBooks. This was due to the speaker settings at the bottom right hand corner of the iTunes window. I do use multiple speakers via Airtunes, on the two that were having trouble but not the other two, and although the speakers were only set to the computer it still wouldn't play the video content.
Whilst the audio (of the music video) was playing I then went to reselect multiple speakers, which brought up the "*failure to connect to remote speakers network refused connection*" warning, then I unchecked the remote speakers to leave just the "Computer" and hey presto the video came to life.
Thank you Charles C n Miami and hope this extra info helps.

  • Moved Library from one Mac to another. iTunes won't play tracks in order.

    Hi
I moved all my iTunes music from my Mac Pro to my MacBook Pro by simply moving the "iTunes" folder from one to the other. There wasn't anything in the MacBook Pro iTunes folder so I just deleted it and replaced it with the one from my Mac Pro.
However although all looks just right in the iTunes browser when I open it up, unfortunately iTunes won't play the tracks in order.
If I play a track on one album when it comes to the end of that, it doesn't continue with the next track on that album, but rather skips to the first track of a later album.
I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for how I might remedy this?

I don't use it, no.  I've been reading about it recently, and it was an example of where the quality of a Song can change if it is downloaded from iTunes Match.
I've used Home Sharing though, as follows:
    1. Copy music from CD to iTunes on Windows PC
    2. Transfer music from Windows PC to iMac using Home Sharing
I do this becasue the iMac doesn't have a optical drive.  I haven't checked to see if the quality has changed, but I assume it just copies the files so it wouldn't make sense if the quality had changed.
