  • ITunes won't play song, even though pause button appears

Recently my iTunes has stopped playing songs. If I click the play button, the pause button appears but the progress bar does not move and no sound is made. The volume on my computer is fine as I can still watch videos on youtube and such. I've recently updated to the lastest iTunes and am not sure whether the songs played find after that or not. I read that it could be a probably with quicktime but I've deleted that and downloaded it again but that did not help.
    Please help me!

I noticed today I am having the same problem. Song would not play in Ver. 9.1.0 and 9.1.1. Same song plays fine in another media player. Also seeing the same that al0022 is seeing, my play button changes to a pause button, and my progress bar does not move. I am able to navigate around iTunes until I try to play a song then I have to kill the task.
I had a Windows update performed yesterday, and believe the windows update is the cause of the problem.
Anyone else unable to play after Windows updates were performed?

  • ITunes won't play songs or videos!

Hi guys, I just installed iTunes 7.0. Before that I had the must up to date version of 6. Somewhere along the line when I still had version 6.X, iTunes stopped properly playing video. I could either see nothing, or see one scene, and the audio sounded like it was skipping. I could still play songs fine though. After installing the new iTunes, I cannot play video or song files. Whenever I attempt to, I basically just hear the skipping "broken record" sound. I have other media players on my computer, but I set up iTunes to be the primary player. my ipod still plays songs fine.
If anyone can help, please reply! I'm lost.

make sure you have the latest sound driver for your sound card
    reinstall quick time
check in the sounds and audio devices in the control pannel under the audio tab that your sound card is set to the default sound playback device

  • ITunes won't play song I purchased. Say's Computer not Authorized

I just bought 9 songs in a row on iTunes using the same account.  8 of the songs play without problem, but whenever I try to play the 6th song I purchased, I get a message saying that my computer is not authorized to play the song and asks me to enter my Apple ID and password to authorize it. I've entered my Apple ID and password 10 times now. Every time I get a message saying that I've authorized 3 out of the 5 devices I'm allowed to authorize and then it proceeds to play the next song on the playlist, NOT the one I'm trying to play. When I try to play it, I get that same error message saying I need to authorize it - even though I just did so.  Beyond being out the $1.29 and feeling a bit scammed, I'm pretty frustrated at this point. What gives? Anyone know what the issue is and how to fix it?

Delete the song and re-download it.

  • ITunes  won't play songs.  Nor even the song samples at the iTunes store.

My sound system is working fine. Commercial CDs play in WMP.
I downloaded latest version of iTunes along with Quicktime. Download/install: no problem. I tried to get some m4p songs I'd saved on a CD to load back into iTunes, and while 1 or 2 appeared in iTunes, they would not play. I click on the spkr icon next to the song...no response. They would not transfer from the CD to iTunes. I gave up trying. (Same thing happens at the Music Store with its 30 second samples.) Doesn't make any differene what song I select. My computer is working fine; I get on the net with no problem. I do not get any error messages. The Diagnosic check from iTunes shows everything normal re my computer settings and network settings. (I'm using XP).
I tried a "Repair" install of iTunes...didn't help. I uninstalled iTunes and re-downloaded the setup.exe file, then reinstalled iTunes. Didn't change anything.
At the moment I've no songs in iTunes--when I call iTunes up, I am taken directly to the Music Store where I have a current, functioning account. IS THAT NORMAL WHEN YOU'VE NOT SET UP A PLAYLIST? And am I correct that itunes uses Quicktime to play iTunes songs?
I have 3 CDs I made of iTunes songs. One was burned with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5. Another was burned with XP itself. A third was burned with iTunes and it will play in my car CD Player and in WMP 11 in my computer. iTunes will NOT play any of the three. If I put a commercial music CD in my computer, iTunes loads all into itself the songs and will play them.
It's a problem when an uninstall and reinstall of iTunes does nothing. I also just ran a Repair Install of XP last night. Went mostly OK; I got a messsage: "Windows could not load the installer for tape controller." I clicked OK as I don't use any tape device. There was another message: "The CinePlayer Decoders have not yet been activated. You must activate the product before use. Please run the player that included these decoders in order to activate the product". Again I clicked OK. I don't know what those cine player decoders do or what a cine player is. Movies? I checked my movie files--they played fine in WMP. I did not copy the CDs (any of them) to my HDD before trying to get them into iTunes but...would that have mattered?
What to do? I would like to get my Music Store songs back into iTunes from my CDs. Hope a clean XP install is not necessary.

    go into iTunes Preferences-->iPod
change Auto Synch to Manually Synch

  • ITunes won't play songs w/Audio Interface connected

I am using iTunes with a Tascam US-122L audio interface. It worked perfectly fine until yesterday evening, and now iTunes absolutely refuses to play any music when the Tascam is connected. I click a song title and the diamond slider does not move, the song stays at 0:00, and the "play" button doesn't change to the "pause" button. It seemed to have started doing this after I exported a song into iTunes from an app called Audio Hijack, which I downloaded to capture some audio from Logic Pro.
iTunes works perfectly fine when the audio interface isn't connected.
I've tried everything, from restarting my computer, to reinstalling the Tascam drivers to reinstalling iTunes, but to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

Does anyone have a possible solution to this? I'm getting the exact same issue with the US-122L after upgrading its firmware (believe it or not... it worked with the previous firmware.. silly me, if it ain't broke, don't fix it).
Really considering returning the thing now, even though I really like it. I'd appreciate any leads, even a way to get debugging info out of it - I'm a programmer and I can tinker if needed. Thanks in advance.

  • ITunes won't play songs

    Hi there,
I am new to this forum, so my apologies.
I recently re-installed my Vista system and I just installed iTunes version 7.3.2 and for some reason, none of the songs in the library or the playlists I have created are playing.
I synced with my iPod just fine, but nothing seems to play in the player itself. I haven't gone back to any previous versions yet, because I couldn't find it on the iTunes site, but I will google it if I have to.
Has anyone heard of iTunes not playing songs in their library or playlists?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm having the exact same error message (albeit for a different reason I think) so I really hope somone responds and can help us!
When I click on a song, I get the same error: "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Then when I click "Yes," it takes me to my iTunes folder, which has now for some reason been separated into two subfolders: "iTunes Music" and "Previous iTunes Libraries." It's as if all of my music imported prior to upgrading my iTunes (previous I had iTunes 4 or something ancient) has been moved into another folder. I've tried clicking all of the folders, but nothing makes the songs play.
Not sure if this could be related, but another recent issue is my external hard drive (where I copied my iTunes files from in the first place) has failed and is no longer being recognized by my computer.
Oh, and one more note...I read something in another post about deselecting the compatibility mode if you have problems post-upgrade, but I checked and it wasn't selected on my computer, so that's not it.
Hopefully between all these details someone can help both Peter and me discern the true problem - and the true solution! Thanks in advance for any and all help!
    Cheers,
    Amy

  • ITunes won't play songs after update

I updated to 11.1.4 today. I had to restart Apple Mobile Devices and Bonjour to get my pc to see my iPhone and my Time Capsule respectively. However, if I open iTunes and click on a song to play, it stays stuck at 0:00 and won't play. If I move the slide bar to jump in the middle of a song, it stays stuck where I moved it to without playing. Any ideas?

It may pay to tear down and reinstall iTunes in the following manner...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • ITunes won't play song all the way through

I purchased a song from the iTunes store and when I try to play it in iTunes, it plays the first 20 seconds of the song and then skips to the next song. Can this be fixed?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • ITunes cannot Location many songs even though they have not moved

I recently noticed that, locations of many songs in iTunes is showing up incorrectly, due to which its playcount, ratings etc. don't sync with my iPhone/iPad. For example
When location of original song is in folder "/Users/SiMac/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music by Artists/Devan/", and
The song is still there in the above folder
However, iTunes now shows the location as "file://localhost/Users/SiMac/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music by Artists/Devan/"
Every time I double the song, iTunes shows up a dialog asking whether I want to locate it, because it doesn't know what the folder shown above in (3) above means.
Is there a way to fix this en mass, because I have thousands of songs, which show up misplaced like above. There is no way in **** for me to locate song by song.

  • ITunes won't play song!!

I recently upgraded both my Mac (to a G5 DP2.0) and my iTunes to 5.0 and now have a major problem. Firstly, when i booted up the new G5, I lost all my iTunes libraries. Started with a blank screen. What a pain! Next, my iTunes no longer recognizes my iPod when it's plugged in, and now when I select a song, it seems to launch the player, shows the name of the song but nothing happens.
    Any ideas??

Try turning off the Compatibility Mode:
iTunes for Windows: How to turn off Compatibility Mode
If that doesn't help, there are some additional suggestions in the document linked at the bottom of that page.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes 7.7.1 won't play songs anymore.

Hi, I recently upgraded to iTunes version 7.7.1, and since the upgrade, iTunes
won't play songs anymore. If I select on a song in my library, the diamond stays
at the 0:00 mark. I have tried re-installing iTunes, with no luck. I am running
the software on a Mac Book Pro with the latest version of OS X (10.5.4).
    thank you.

Just start with a standard procedure: Run Disk Utility and fix permissions/repair disk

No, I haven't figured it out.  And no one from Apple has contacted me to help.  Very frustrating.  Sure makes me want to not buy music on iTunes and just buy CD's.
Do you have a 3GS too?  Maybe it's something with that phone??

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entries, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)
