ITunes won't recognize iPod nano

Hey y'all!
First of all I would like to say that I searched this, and lots of other forums for the answer to my question, I've tried so many different things, been at it for a couple of hours, and NOTHING works!
I'm on my iMac with OSX 10.10.2 and my iTunes is version 12.0.1.26. The iPod is Nano, 7G with latest firmware update.
I've bought this new iPod last week, connected it to my iMac. iTunes opened on itself, but didn't show the iPod!
When I went and look in my system information, in the section USB it did say that an Apple iPod was connected with 16GB. So my iMac recognized the iPod, but my iTunes did not.
So then I went and looked on the internet, and they said this could be a problem with the fact that the iPod was formatted for Windows. I read elsewhere that with OSX 10, this was actually not a problem, but I went over to my mom's Windows laptop, and connected the iPod.
There iTunes opened itself also, and the iPod became visible, so it worked without a problem! It was also there I've gotten the notice there was a firmware update, so I did it.
After doing the update, I went back to my iMac, and reconnected the iPod, again iTunes opened itself, but still no iPod
If I go and look at the disk utility program, there the iPod is also visible with 1 partition, both in FAT.
I've tried a couple of other things, like putting the iPod in disk mode. Then iTunes says there is an iPod found that has to be recovered before use, so I click recover and it tries to do it, but then I always get an error that the recovery is not possible :-s .
I've also tried everything on this page: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X - Apple Support - nothing works!
My OSX 10 installation is also a clean one from just a week ago.
I really hope there is someone who can help me, because it's starting to look like I'm not going to be able to use my new iPod
Thanks in advance !!
Greetz Dennis !

I'm having the same problem, but I am NOT running the beta of Yosemite.
I actually JUST updated to Yosemite this weekend.
Nano 6th Gen mounts on the desktop, says that it's connected... but doesn't show in iTunes.
All of the solutions I can find seem to be relating back to using the beta... any other thoughts???

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod Nano (1GB, 1st generation)

I have been having problems Sync'ing my iPod nano with iTunes, however, the more I read help articles and follow the steps, the worse the problem gets. (I'm on a PC using Windows XP)
I've gotten to the point where I updated my iPod software in Disk mode (up until then it was being recognized only in Disk mode), but when iTunes failed to recognize it when not in Disk mode I preceded to restore my iPod to factory settings, as instructed in the help articles.
Now, up until then, I still had music in my iPod, and I was being able to charge it and listen to my music even though I couldn't sync the iPod anymore. After restoring, I not only lost my music (which I was aware of), but it STILL did not fix my problem. So I started to get annoyed.
I then noticed that my iPod was being recognized by My Computer, just not by iTunes, so I began to perform the steps indicated in the following article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
I restarted my iPod service - no luck
I removed iTunes - no luck
I emptied my Temp directory and restarted...
That's when iTunes stopped recognizing my iPod altogether, not even in Disk mode. Not only that, but it seems to have affected the iPod itself, since it won't turn off or exit Disk mode anymore. So now I'm scared of going though with any more steps on whichever "help" articles and making the problem even worse than it already is (if that's possible).
The only other information I can provide is that windows is still recognizing my iPod, no problem, and when I connect my iPod, iTunes actually launches... but DOESN'T recognize a thing. So I ran a diagnostics using iTunes and here's what I got (iPod diagnostics):
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

    Connected Device Information:
IPOD (H:\), iPod nano running firmware version 1.3.1
All green lights, and as you can see, according to iTunes, NO PROBLEM! Except that it won't recognize the iPod that the disgnistics says exists and reads... ?!?!?!
If anyone could shed some light on my situation, i would be VERY greatful!

My IPod Nano will charge when connected to my computer but it won't come up on My Computer or iTunes. So I can't update the songs. I've already tried reseting the iPod. Does anybody know what I can do to fix it.

  • Itunes won't recognize ipod nano 2nd gen

    hi everyone,
I have a mac powerpc g4 and am running osx 10.3.2 and itunes 6.0.4. as far as I know, that's the latest itunes that will work with this os. I can plug in my own ipod (an old 40 gb) and everything's great. the problem is when my fiance plugs in hers -- she wants to load some of my mp3s onto her ipod. it shows up as an ipod on the desktop, but itunes doesn't recognize it. I tried the 5 R's already -- I even restored her ipod nano 2nd gen and made sure it was in mac format and had the latest software, which it now does. but it makes no difference. her own itunes/mac recognizes her ipod just fine; the problem is when we plug it into my mac. I suspect I need some different, updated driver that will explain to my mac that the thing that's being plugged in needs to be treated like an ipod. any ideas where I can find such a driver that would work with my os, or, failing that, any ideas as to anything else that would fix the problem? any help is much appreciated.
    thanks,
    John

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod nano 7th gen. after recent update

I just downloaded the latest update for Itunes (11.1.2) and all of a sudden iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod nano anymore.
It's a brand new one, 7th generation, only bought last week, and before the update all was functioning well. Windows does recognize the iPod so I don't know what the problem is.
Things I did to solve the problem: delete iTunes from and reinstall it again to my laptop and restart the computer a couple of times.
Anyone have an idea what to do or what the problem is?

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod Nano 6G

    I restart the PC
    Reinstall again and again iTunes.
I have the latest update of iTunes.
The problem is that when I connect the iPod to the USB port (any port), my PC makes a little sound, but then nothing happens, I disconnect the iPod and still makes a sound, that proves to me that the USB recognizes something. I have Windows 7 Home Basic.
    Sorry for my bad english

When you removed and re-installed iTunes did you follow the exact instructions in this Apple support document?

  • Itunes won't recognize ipod nano (6th gen) HELP :(

I have restarted the computer and done everything the 6th gen troubleshooter has told me. I have a packard bell desktop PC, the operating system is Windows Vista and all the USB ports are working. I previously had an ipod on my laptop but itunes did the same thing so I synced it into my desktop and it worked perfectly. I got a new ipod, exactly the same, and plugged it in only to find this again. I have tried everything i need some help. Could it be my white ipod charger cable?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod, iPod charges but won't play

When I connect my nano, it goes to the Do Not Disconnect screen, but my iTunes does not recognize the nano, so I can't update songs/playlists. It charges, but when I try to play - after I select a song - it goes to that song, but doesn't play and then skips to the next song and the next and the next and nothing plays. I reset the nano and reinstalled iTunes but problem still exists. Any thoughts? Thanks!

  • Itunes won't recognize iPod after installing MediaMonkey..

    Hi,
I recently switched from Itunes to MediaMonkey, and I'm very happy. But my girlfriend still uses iTunes. And now her iTunes won't recognize neither her or my iPod when I connect either of them. Windows and MediaMonkey recognizes them perfectly. iTunes just comes up with this error message:
"The software necessary to communicate with iPod isn't correctly installed. Install iTunes again before installing iPod-software."
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes a number of times. I even tried uninstalled MediaMonkey, but nothing works..

  • Itunes won't recognize ipod and videos gone

I have a 30GB Video Ipod and itunes won't recognize it. I have to keep putting the music files back in and converting them. Also the Movie and TV Shows I bought disappeared. I have a Windows XP Home Edition, and itunes 7. I downloaded itunes about 4 or 5 months ago, it that helps. My ipod shows up in my computer though. I want to know:
    1. How can I get itunes to recognize my ipod
    2. How do I get itunes to keep and remember my files
    3. How do I get my videos back?
    4. Which version of itunes should I get and how do I get it?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This article addresses both error messages...
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
As for the iPod not turning off. Try resetting...
    Reset iPod
After you reset it, wait about a minute and then try turning it off.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod - Extreme frustration!

So iTunes won't recognize my new IPod Video. It works fine with my kids' shuffle, mini and 4th gen but when I connect my new iPod I just get a window with: "iTunes cannot read the contents of the ipod "IPOD". Use the IPOD Software Updater Application to restore the IPOD to factory settings"
I've been trying since Christmas to get this thing working. I've tried the five R's, I've tried every combination of everything suggested on the Apple site, (including posts here) I've tried stuff from other apple users sites. No joy. I just got off the phone with the help rep from Apple. He talked me through the MSCONFIG stuff, no joy still. He told me to go to depot.info.apple.com/ipod and fill out the forms and they'd send me a package to put my iPod in to send them so they could fix it. It's personalized so it'll take an extra 3 weeks to fix. Needless to say, I'm very frustrated and extremely disapointed.
    Merry Christmas.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod touch since Snow Leopard

I convinced my dad to get Snow Leopard (the low price helped), and he loaded it onto his macbook pro, but now his iPod touch won't mount – it charges from the USB port, but iTunes doesn't recognize it. We plugged in my iPhone to see if it would work, and it started iPhoto, but not iTunes. That shows pretty conclusively that the trouble is with iTunes software. We haven't tried reinstalling it because I'm worried he'll lose all of his many playlists and settings. Any suggestions?

    Hello JacobST,
Have you tried resetting the iPod touch with it connected to the Mac? To do this, press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons together until the unit powers off. Then press and hold the Sleep button until the Apple logo appears.
If not luck with that, work through the troubleshooting steps provided in this Apple support document. You can choose to skip the re-installation of iTunes until later, but do know that it will have no affect on the media or settings, because this information is stored elsewhere on his Mac.
