My ipod was disabled by my son entering the wrong pass code. I no longer have the original computer i sync to. I have tried to restore using the instructions sent by Apple Rep, and on these help pages. I get a message from itunes saying that cannot connect to ipod touch b/c it is disabled, that i need to enter passcode to continue.. meanwhile, the ipod touch is saying i am disabled and to connect to itunes. Any NEW ideas?
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)
If none of the above work, try:
DFU mode: http://osxdaily.com/2010/12/04/ipad-dfu-mode/

Hello everyone,
When I plug in my iPod nano 5th generation, my computer is recognizing it, but iTunes is not. I just recently bought it off of a friend and it was working perfectly. Today is the first time that it wouldn't connect to iTunes. I have tried using different USB ports and that didn't work. I plugged in my sister's iPod Touch and it worked fine. I don't want to have to try to uninstall/reinstall iTunes for fear of loosing some of the information on there. I have also read several things that say that that doesn't work, so I don't see any reason to take a pointless risk. If there is anything that I can do to get it to work? I would try another computer, but my home computer is the only one that I have. I really need to get it to work ASAP. PLEASE HELP!!If you check other error problems linked to this issue (example errors 1437 and 1439), you will note that these recognition issues have been prevalent for a lot of iPods (not only nanos and suffles) since iTunes version 7.5 went away. Seems like Apple doesn't have a clue, and doesn't want to have a clue. Many people all over the world have come up with things that have worked for them, but none of those fixes are working for me any more. Maybe this is just Apple's way of forcing people to buy their brand computers. It stinks. I am at a total loss as to what to do to get my Nano recognized at all in iTunes, and my Shuffles to sync. Obviously we are all venting our frustrations on an Apple hosted discussion board. Equally obvious is that no one at Apple is reading this stuff, further displaying that Apple simply does NOT CARE.
If I ever in the next couple of years or so (see, I am not very optimistic) get an HONEST answer out of Apple, or a workable solution elsewhere around the internet, I'll do a follow-up post here. But, I am not very hopeful. I think my iPods have just become expensive chunks of junk, because I am NOT going to buy an Apple computer just for them.

How to reformat Ipod Nano 5th gen when not recognized by Windows or iTunes?
I've done all the steps on the site to correct this problem up until the reformatiing part except I tried to update the driver software but Windows says that it encounters an error when trying to install the new software.
So after going through the steps I noticed that the iPod I just bought was formatted for Mac. It says that in order for me to reformat, I have to restore my iPod in iTunes but since it isn't recognized my my computer or iTunes, I can't do it.
Suggestions anyone?Hello there, HateKnuckle.
The following Knowledge Base article offers a pretty thorough step-by-step for troubleshooting your issue:

My macbook is not recognizing my 3rd gen. ipod nano after I reset the ipod. THe finder not itunes recognizes it. Can someone help?
If you have not already, disconnect the iPod and restart your Mac. Do this to Reset the iPod.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
Once the Mac restarts, run iTunes and connect the iPod.
If that does not help, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
then, connect it to the Mac running iTunes. It's possible that iTunes will tell you that you need to Restore the iPod. -
It has been doing this for a week and the music is faint while the static is louder than it. I try plugging it in to my iTunes and when I un-plug it, it still makes the loud static noise. I have also tried tapping my knuckle on the back of my ipod nano. This has not damaged it at all nor caused this to my ipod. There is no water damage to the ipod. Only a few scratches from a couple drops. The drops have been on concrete but not at a very high distance. How to I stop this? Do I need to replace my ipod instead?
Have you tried a different pair of earbuds/headphones to rule out a pair of damaged/faulty ones? You might also want to make sure the headphones are securely and firmly seated in Nano's headphone jack. Lastly, check the headphone jack for any signs of debris or damage. You may need to have the headphone jack replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.
I assume this static is present on any track you listen to versus only particular ones?

Ipod Nano 6th gen is not recognized by my computer or itunes.
I have tried everything the forums have said and have also tried every solution i could find online. Please help, this is getting ridiculous.
What displays on the iPods screen when you have it connected? I assume you have tried another known working USB cable?
Is iTunes up do date on your PC (currently at 10.7)?
Have you tried connecting to another PC or Mac?

My ipod nano 5th gen. won't play movies or tv shows but it plays them on itunes. When I click on it the screen flashes black. I have tried taking the videos off my ipod and then putting them back on but it still won't work. what should i do?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
