ITunes won't recognize new Coldplay disc, MacBook Pro spits disc out

Anybody else? It won't even come up in the finder. It seems like it tries to read it and then it ejects.

Okay, found out the issue. It's about LAST YEAR's CD, but I can only imagine they made the new one much much worse

Coldplay Can't Play
Band's New CD Comes with Onerous Limitations
By Martin H. Bosworth
ConsumerAffairs.com
January 4, 2006
Pop behemoths Coldplay have scored great success with melancholy hits like "Yellow" and "Shiver." But now the British foursome has something new to sing the blues about -- namely the fact that their newest CD, "X&Y," comes with so many restrictions on its usage as to be, in one irate fan's words, "virtually unplayable."
Coldplay's label, Capitol Records, has installed extremely restrictive digital rights management (DRM) on the CD.
Although the disc packaging does clearly state that the CD is copy-protected, the buyer doesn't know exactly what the restrictions are until they've bought the CD and opened it up. Worse, the restrictions prevent the CD from being returned or exchanged unless there is a "manufacturing defect."
The DRM restrictions prevent the CD from being played in "some" CD players, CD-recordable or rewritable hard drives, DVD players, game consoles such as a Playstation or Xbox, and prevents any attempt to copy the CD or "rip" the tracks to MP3 format. The CD's restrictions also prevent it from being played or copied on Macintosh PCs.
Capitol is a subsidiary of the EMI Music Group, which clearly has not learned any lessons from Sony BMG and their ongoing fiasco with spyware-infested CD's.
Sony recently reached a tentative settlement in one of several lawsuits accusing it of surreptitiously installing software on users' computers that can cripple them.
Although several enterprising listeners have found ways to copy or rip the Coldplay CD to their music libraries, by doing so they can face potential lawsuits, fines, and even imprisonment for violation of copyright. The ongoing battles over copyright protection of music versus the "fair use" doctrine have sparked increasingly hostile moves by record companies and fans alike.
Artists and bands may suffer in the long term as well, when angry fans choose not to buy their CDs due to the DRM restrictions added by the music labels.
As one Coldplay fan posting on an Internet forum put it, "The only way you and I can tell the record companies that we don't like the way they're kicking our butts adding this sort of technology' is by returning their crippled discs back to the store, or even better, steer clear of buying them ... I support the artists, it's the record companies that need a wake-up call!"

itunes won't recognize new credit in itunes store and goes straight to billing page so I cannot purchase anything; also play button won't activate when in itunes stor. Susanne

    Hi Chris
Thank you for your help sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you.
I solved my problem with Itunes gift card after many frustrating hours. I went to purchase another song it did the same thing as before (went straight to the billing page) but this time I hit a credit card icon it asked me to bring up details; I deliberately entered wrong numbers so forth and so on. I deleted all the credit card details and hit NONE and I found I could then exit the page. That action seemed to trigger a correction for purchase; and I could then download without too much trouble.

  • HELP: Windows Won't Recognize FAT32 Volume on Macbook Pro

OK, So my brother just got one of the brand new Core 2 Duo Macbook Pros with LED backlighting and the 8600M GT. I tried to set him up with a similar set up as mine, in which I partitioned my hard drive into 3 parts.
The first is the OSX partition. The second is the Windows Vista Home Premium partition, which disk utility describes as a Microsoft Basic Data partition. The third is a FAT32 partition labeled "MUSIC". They are listed in that order in OSX's disc utility from top to bottom.
I have a Core Duo Macbook Pro and I use bootcamp to access windows mainly for gaming and sometimes I just feel like using windows, and I've stored all my music on the FAT32 "MUSIC" partition so that both operating systems can access it. It works beautifully.
So I tried to do the same for my brother, and the Windows installation went perfectly and Windows was giving me no problems until I found that his fat32 "MUSIC" partition wasn't showing up under My Computer.
Apart from the hardware (his Macbook Pro being one of the newer ones and having a bigger hard drive), there are a few differences in the set ups. His Windows partition ended up being described as NT Filesystem (or something like that) and his Windows partition is the third one down listed in disk utility from top to bottom with OSX at the top and "MUSIC" in the middle.
I don't know what to do. The internet has proved useless so far and I can't figure out how to force windows to mount a FAT32 volume that it doesn't mount automatically. Please help me!

  • Trying to update from 10.4.11 to snow leopard, the genius bar said I should be able to do this I only need 1 GB of RAM and I have 2 GB. I put in the SL disc and my Macbook pro spits it out. What do I do without needlessly spending more money to upgrade?

So this disc won't load. I recently bought a new ipod nano, but am unable to put songs on it without the latest version of itunes.
My Macbook Pro is 2008 and has 10.4.11 the guys at the genius bar said to upgrade to snow leopard to upgrade to lion and I shouldn't have a problem. I was told I need 1GB of RAM and I have 2GBs of RAM but the disc spits out every time after about 3 minutes.
This is my computer info, please please please help me install this disc so I can use this ipod I bought from you that I've been super psyched about using.

  • New user of Macbook Pro - Problems sending out emails

Hi, I have just recently bought a macbook pro. I have created my email account. However, when I try to send an email, the message is just stuck in the outbox. What do I do to overcome this problem please?

    Hi Ernie,
I found the below information when going to "what are bt yahoo settings". Is this information useful at all?
What are the BT Yahoo! Mail settings?
To use an email program to send and receive BT Yahoo! Mail messages, you must designate a new incoming (POP) mail server and a new outgoing (SMTP) mail server. Outlook Express users can do this automatically by going to My account and clicking on 'Configure my email client settings'.
If your program won't let you add new POP or SMTP servers, you'll need to change your current server settings.
Here are the basic server settings for BT Yahoo! Mail:
    Incoming Mail (POP3) Server:
    mail.btinternet.com
Port (usually specified in 'Advanced settings')
    110
    Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:
    mail.btinternet.com
Port (usually specified in 'Advanced Settings')
    25
    Account Name/Login Name:
Your email address (including the "@btinternet.com" or "@btopenworld.com" part)
    Password:
    Your BT Yahoo! password
Please note: if your client does not support SMTP authentication, you will not be able to use it to send your BT Yahoo! Mail messages.

  • IPhoto won't open and makes my macbook pro log me out!

The other day I used my camera's memory card to add new photos onto my iPhoto.  I had never done this before; usually I plug my camera into my computer via a usb cord.  The import seemed to go well and I was able to look at the photos I had added.  But, today, when I tried to open iPhoto, not only would it not open, but it caused my macbook pro to log me out of my user account!  I've tried deleting iPhoto's cache and preferences files, rebuilding the library with iPhotoLibraryManager and I even repaired the permissions on my hard drive!  Nothing helped!  When I click on the iPhoto icon, it doesn't even give me a pop-up message with an error.  My screen turns blue and then it has black and white vertical lines, and then I am back at the login page and my screen has dimmed to half brightness.  Then, when I log back in, it behaves like I have just started it up and has to load all the icon images and none of my applications that were open before are open anymore.  I have no idea what could be wrong!  Please help!

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • ITunes won't recognize new songs on my iPod

I put some new songs on my iPod with another iTunes on another computer. When I opened iTunes and plugged my iPod in the first time after I had added the songs, iTunes recognized the iPod but didn't do anything about the new songs. My iPod also stayed on the "Do not disconnect" screen. I had to press the eject button to safely disconnect it. I thought that when there were songs on the iPod that weren't on iTunes, iTunes would question you about whether or not to add them to iTunes. I have it set to "Manually Manage Music". So,
    1. Is it possible to get iTunes to recognize the new songs?
    2. If so, how?
    thanks
iPod Nano, First Generation   Windows XP

I thought that when there were songs on the iPod that weren't on iTunes, iTunes would question you about whether or not to add them to iTunes.
This applies to music purchased from the iTunes store, when the computer you're using is authorized to play music from that iTunes store account. It does not apply to music obtained in other ways, or if the computer isn't authorized to play that music.

Downloaded the new iTunes a few hours ago, and now after a few restarts, I get no response at all when clicking on itunes.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • ITunes won't recognize new iPod touch

Last night I purchased a new iPod touch. When I try to connect it to iTunes; I get the following message:"This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I have uninstalled (removed) my current version to iTunes andinstalled the latest version of iTune and still get the same message.
    Any ideas?

ok i figured it out.. not what was wrong but what to do.. you have to restore your system without having the iPod connect of course.. then uninstall itunes and quicktime then delete every trace of them from your computer. (once you reinstall iTunes you will get back everything you had) then once you restart your computer reinstall itunes and restart your computer again. now plug ur iPod Touch in the computer and it will work then.
same thing happened to mine.. it took a while to figure it out but i got it...
you have to uninstall them then delete it from program files... now it works perfectly

  • Replaced Hard Drive, iTunes Won't Recognize New Drive

I had my 60+G of music files stored on an external drive, and it died. Someone more tech savvy than I copied the files from my iPod to a new drive, and they are all there. However, after I changed the iTunes folder location in Prefernces to look to the new drive I still get the *!%!! exclamation points!!!
I can look for individual tracks and pull them up easily enough, but I don't want to do this 16,577 times!
Did I miss a step? I left "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" checked.
Any help would be tremendously appreciated on Thanksgiving Day.....

  • Itunes won't recognize new Ipod Nano 8GB

Hi, help someone please. The error I'm receiving is: "An Ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the ipod, then try again".
Tried this several times and even reinstalled itunes... didn't work. Tried using a different USB port as well.
All other ipods are working fine when connected. I'm using Windows XP. HELLLPPP please !! it's my kids new Christmas present

I had exactly the same problem - heres the procedure I used - hope it helps ?
It looks a bit daunting but only takes a couple of minutes.
    Disconnect iPod
Go into Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove programs
Select iTunes and remove ( don't worry all your music should be safe - mine was still there when I reinstalled )
Next go to apple website, disable your antivirus ( not sure if this is needed, but it's what worked for me) and download and install latest iTunes 9.0.
    After installation - close iTunes
Reboot your P.C. and then restart your antivirus.
    Next
Go into Control Panel again, then administrative tools( if you can't see admin tools select classic view from the left panel.
Then select computer management - then device manager
Scroll down the list in the right hand panel and expand the universal serial bus controllers section.
Connect your ipod nano - you should hear a bleep and then the details in the USB controllers list should change ( if iTunes starts just close it )
From the USB controllers list select the new addition - it'll either say apple ipod usb or Mass storage device something like that( whichever one has just appeared on connection of your ipod )
Right click on the new entry and select uninstall - at the warning message select ok
wait for it to complete the removal.
Right click the entry again and select scan for hardware changes, keep your ipod connected.
The computer should now find your ipod and reinstall the necessary usb drivers for you.
    Next
    disconnect your ipod
    start iTunes
on your ipod - press and hold centre button and menu for about 8 seconds - apple logo will appear, - then press and hold centre button and rewind for 6 - 8 seconds- ipod will go into a diagnostic mode.
a list will appear on ipod screen
press the centre button and it will select the first parameter on the list then press menu - you will be returned to the diagnostic list but you will be on the second item in the list - once again press the centre button to access, then press menu to return to the list - repeat until you reach the last item on the list "restore". press the centre button and the ipod should restore - apple logo will appear and the ipod will reboot(wait for a minute or so for this to complete )
Now connect to iTunes - hopefully your ipod will show up on the left hand side ( mine did )
click on your ipod on the list - you should now have a screen showing your ipod - it may prompt you to download a newer version of software - click don't download.
on this summary screen select enable disk usage and then click apply - now wait it can take a little while to complete.
When it is finished the apple logo will be back at the top of iTunes.
O.k. this is the fun bit and needs to be done quite quickly !
Read this next section completely before you start
    click restore on iTunes.
it will say something like download and restore, click this.
a progress bar will appear - saying extracting software
followed by another progress bar, restoring "your name" iPod
my progress bar then showed 3 or 4 blue dots traveling across the progress bar without actually making any progress.
while this is happening unplug your iPod
press and hold centre button and menu for 8 seconds - apple logo appears
then press and hold centre button and play until it says disk mode.
reconnect your ipod - the progress bar should now slowly complete and at the end say something like ipod will show up on itunes when it reboots.
wait for the apple logo to appear on your ipod, followed by the start screen ( select language )
    disconnect
select the language you want to use as from new.
reconnect and then sync as normal - everything should now work.
This is what worked for me - it's a bit long winded but so far so good.
I hope this helps you - it took me about six hours of searching and messing around to finally get this working - my 2 daughters were driving me mad as their new Nano's wouldn't work !!!!

  • Old CD Burner Broke but iTunes won't recognize new external Burner

    HELP!
My internal CD Burner (E-drive) broke and I installed a new external burner (F-drive). However, when I go to burn a CD, iTunes wants to burn to the old, broken internal drive.
I checked Preferences, Burning but the ONLY drive listed is the old broken "E" drive - there is no list of drives to choose from (it is greyed out and I can't choose or point to the new "F" drive).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Diane

hmmmm. okay, let's try something relatively simple first ... a "reboot and repair".
reboot the PC. (very important.) now do a repair install of iTunes. in Add/Remove programs, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, does the F show up in your Burning preferences?

  • 2 things: iPhoto isn't automatically copying all my imported photos into an iPhoto album folder AND ever since i upgraded my MacBook 120GB to Snow Leopard, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone.

So i have a 120GB MacBook that's about 4 years old (just updated to Snow Leopard--been working in Iraq, i'm a little behind).
Never had a problem with it.
I also have an iPhone 4 which i've had for about a year (up-to-date software as of about a month ago).
Never had a problem with it.
I've had iTunes for years of course (up-to-date).
    Never had a problem.
    1.
Now my iTunes won't recognize my iPhone since the Snow Leopard update.
iPhoto will recognize my phone, but iTunes won't.
Went through all the preferrences and i can't find anything that isn't set properly.
iTunes Helper is used during startup.
    Everything seems fine.
    Any help?
    2.
I use a WD external hard drive to back my Mac up every week or so.
I recently realized that half of my pictures from iPhoto are not copied to the external.
    They haven't been transfering over.
So i snooped through my folders and as it turns out, iPhoto hasn't been copying the pictures i import from my iPhone to iPhoto and saving them as .jpg files in the pictures folder (or iPhoto album or whatever) like i think it's supposed to.
My pictures folder has approx half of all my pictures in it, meaning at some point (probably 2 years ago) iPhoto stopped making the file copies of my imported pictures.
    I do not know why.
No idea how to fix it.
If i were able to fix that (with your help), would all the pictures that haven't been copied automatically copy to my pictures folder once i had the issue resolved or would there be a lot of dragging and dropping?
I've been clumsily and sloppily copying all my pictures to a new folder on my desktop and manually transferring that folder to a thumb drive (which i keep in my pocket) and my external (just so i have them in some form) in case my computer crashes or a mortar shell lands on my room and blows my computer up.
Can anyone please help me with any of this?
I can't just stoll down to the Apple store to ask the Genius Bar (I'm in Baghdad) and i don't have Apple Care so no one will help me on the phone when i call Apple.
    Thanks so much.

    hey mill1640,
Did you ever get your iPhone to register with iTunes? I just upgraded as well to Snow Leopard, and my my isn't recognized at all also.
If you did get this resolved, I would appreciate a little suggestion in the right direction.
    Many thanks,
    Josh

  • Just upgraded macbook to Snow Leopard, and now itunes won't recognize my iphone.  I tried turning all off, and on.  I have the newest version of itunes.  Will I have to reset my iphone (and also ipod touch?), and if so, does it mean I lose anything?

How long will it take?  thanks

Start iTunes.  Make sure you really are running the version you think you are.  Sometimes people end up with two copies, different versions.
