Itunes won't refresh podcasts

When I click "Refresh" in the podcast window of iTunes 9.0.2 it does not actually update any content. One or two or three podcasts show up very briefly in the Downloads list, then quickly go away without being updated. They are in the list for such a shot time I am unable to even navigate over to see what's being updated before they disappear. So far this is only a problem with my home connection. I was able to update podcasts while in a hotel recently. Any insight into how to make this work better?

Something I have found is that there is a little triangle on top of the podcast. If there isn't, you'll need to click on it, and it will say something like "You haven't listened to any podcasts lately. Would you like to refresh?" Click that, and that may well fix the issue.

• Itunes won't delete podcasts that I've played on my ipod, only itunes

I have itunes setup to delete podcasts after its played and it works great. However, since I use my ipod more to play podcasts, I would also like Itunes to sync up with my ipod and delte podcasts that I've played on the ipod.
Does anyone know how to set this up?

Might be an authorization issue in iTunes. Try deauthorizing your computer through the Store menu at the top of iTunes and then authorizing it again. Once that is done try transferring purchases from the iPod Touch.

• ITunes 11.3 won't refresh podcasts in List view

I see that others are having problems with this version of iTunes and podcasts. Fortunately, mine does not freeze up requiring a force quit. However, several of my podcasts stopped getting new episodes. I generally use List view, and attempts to refresh them in that view just gave me the beachball for a minute, and then nothing.
Here's what worked for me. I switched to My Podcasts view. The "frozen" podcasts had an exclamation mark in the left column just to the left of the number of unplayed podcasts. I clicked on the podcast name. In the main window, an exclamation mark showed up at the top to the right of the podcast name. I clicked it and got this message:
iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?
I clicked Yes, and the podcast updated promptly.

Just updated last night and have the same problem. Only the solution was a bit different. I have to leave list view, and mark all of a podcast as "played" for any new ones to show up.

• ITunes won't load podcasts I create since updating to 10.6

As a way of organizing work videos, after creating them I import them into intunes, and then change their setting to make them a podcast, and just keep them in that format/folder. This has worked well for two years.
After updating to iTunes 10.6, and suddenly this stopped. I can still import the .m4v file into itunes, and it plays just fine. If I leave it as a movie, its fine. If I reset it as a "tv show" it still stays and plays just fine. But if I change it to be a podcast, it does not show up in the podcast list. I check inside the itunes folder, and it is there in the podcast sub folder. But it will not show up in itunes, and subsequently won't sync to my ipad.
I don't need to , or plan to upload these for others use, it just for my work and my presentations - but by making them podcasts it very conveinent to organize and store for different clients. I just need them to show up in itunes so i can add to my ipad.
Its worked well for years, but suddenly stopped working after the 10.6 update.
Anyone experience anythiing similar? Work arounds? Solutions?
Thanks for any help.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

• ITunes won't download podcasts in Windows 7

iTunes takes a long time loading and when it does, it constantly freezes up. It will download podcasts and then the error bubble will pop up and it won't complete the download. I've tried reinstalling and nothing seems to resolve the issue. This happens every time there is an update and I have the latest version 10.7 (?) I run Windows 7 Professional

The error says something like network/internet connection not availble or experienced an error, try again. Something like that. Normally, though, iTunes just freezes up and I can't do anything.
Also, when I download items individually, it'll get to the point where it says, "Processing File" and then blanks out with no resulting blue dot and checkmark.
I searched for the download folder and didn't find any files in there to delete. Since my library is networked, I feel like that's also causing a bunch of issues.
I've gone through and updated security, repaired iTunes and QuickTime, nothing appears to make iTunes run without crashing. I've closed out all other applications and rebooted, started it in safe mode and as an administrator and cannot resolve this issue, which has been going on for over a week now and is really getting frustrating. I don't want to spend my whole day trying to trouble shoot something that's not working for no apparent reason.

• ITunes crashes while refreshing podcasts.

If I just start iTunes, it will just sit there with nothing out of the ordinary. If I switch to Podcasts is when problems manifest themselves.
When Mivio went out of business I started getting prompts for login credential, but no information about which podcasts caused iTunes (I would remove them).
After another update, things got worse. After a few prompts for this useless login, iTunes stops responding and closes itself. If I reinstall iTunes, it works fine until I point to my existing iTunes data folder on a different drive and let it rebuild the library. Then I am back to the same error cycle.
Obviously there is something in that directory that causes the problem. I would remove whatever is causing the problem, but I need to know what that is. I do not have enough space on my C: drive to keep iTunes there.
Any Suggestions?

I uninstalled everything from this apple article:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows XP
Now. I dont know where your personal itunes library files are. Mine are at Music/iTunes. Im saying this because i would make a backup of the iTunes Library
iTunes Library Extras iTunes Library Genius iTunes Library sentinel files.
When you uninstall, those things should remain, they did for me. However, I would make a backup of those files if I was doing a full uninstall.
After you uninstall, install the itunes version I suggested. That worked for me after I got tons of crashes in the latest itunes.

• ITunes won't obey podcast sync rules

I just updated my itunes software and plugged in my 16gig ipod touch to sync and it began to sync ALL my podcasts, not just the ten most recent like I have it set up to do. I have looked in my playlists and there is nothing related to podcasts. I am kind of frustrated and would appreciate it if anyone could help me. Thank you.

Look through all of your playlists. Chances are the podcasts are in one of them, and that is why they keep syncing to the iPod.

• ITunes won't refresh feed.

OK, five weeks ago I started my podcast, "The Armchair Quarterbacks." iTunes has successfully displayed the first episode...and nothing else. I have since released 4 more episodes, every week, and it refuses to update. Is there a way I can get iTunes to recheck my feed and find all the updates?
I'm using podpress in Wordpress, and have done everything that they have suggested.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

I just figured it out! Every single podcast to which I was subscribed in Leopard shows a subscribe button in Snow Leopard! I hit those little buttons and all my podcasts woke up!

• ITunes updates podcasts each hour but won't refresh. When I sync my iPhone, it gets yesterdays podcasts and I have to manually hit refresh to make it update. How can I make it automatically refresh?

iTunes updates podcasts each hour but won't refresh. When I sync my iPhone, it gets yesterdays podcasts and I have to manually hit refresh to make it update. How can I make it automatically refresh?

I think figured out what is going on here... If you have set your Windows OS time manually, Apple iTunes will not honor the time you set in Windows XP...
In my case, I had not applied the Windows update that changes the Daylight savings rules. No big deal I thought... I can easily correct the time manually. Well... iTunes will not like it if you do that. You have to have your daylight savings rules set correctly on the PC. Microsoft has a free program called TZEdit that will let you adjust the DST boundaries.
Once I set the rules correctly and then set my time keeping back to "Automatic" it fixed it. Hope this helps...

• Podcasts won't refresh when subscribed but will when unsubscribed?!?

The topic says it all.
Win 7 Pro 64 bit / iTunes 11.3.1 (the latest) / all other hardware well ahead of spec
In the past, I'd had an odd phenomenon when refreshing podcasts - old episodes would appear long after they'd been downloaded, played in their entirety, etc. Only 1-2 of them, easily deleted. A pain, but a minor one.
Now we have a showstopper - podcasts that are subscribed won't update. The update icon appears etc.
Then I unsubscribe. Suddenly the podcast in question (e.g. the episode for the most recent day) appears with the cloud download icon as usual. I can download it with no problem.
Now the insult-to-injury part: re-subscribing to the podcast makes the file disappear from my library!
It's the understatement of the year to say this is contradictory, Bizarro-world behavior. Devising a desperate, random workaround is all very well but hardly a desirable, permanent fix.
I have uninstalled. I have manually cleaned. I have reinstalled. I have burned incense but so far have stopped short of worshiping graven images.
This is the part where I take a bitter swipe at Apple but even the most phlegmatic user must wonder aloud how such chaos is possible especially given the enormous user base.

• Ipod nano won't sync podcasts from iTunes after I "Restored" the ipod.

iPod nano won't sync podcasts from iTunes after I "Restored" the iPod.

If you've read the Technical Specification you will find that the nano can only use Firewire for charging, not for syncing:
http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
"Charging via USB or FireWire to computer system or power adapter (sold separately)"
So you can rule that out.

• ITunes quits when I refresh podcasts with iPod touch connected

If I click the "refresh podcast" button in iTunes (version 11.3.1.2) while my iPod touch (32G capacity currently with 4.5G available; still running iOS 5.1.1) is connected, iTunes quits. If the iPod is not connected, the refresh runs just fine; any available podcasts are downloaded. I'm running iTunes on Windows 7 with all the latest security updates. This issue first occurred August 16, 2014.

• On the itunes 11 i refreshed my podcast all the prior podcast I've heard are now set to download and i can't find a way to delete them

On itunes 11 I refreshed my podcasts all the prior podcasts that I've already listened to are on my list to download. You used to be able to delete right off the list but I cant seem to do that now.

James Ward4 Thanks for your suggestion. I have tried the video app and it appears to have some, but not all of the downloads which are viewable without wifi, so I will now review the download process and see if I can capture the missing episodes. Thanks again.
