ITunes WON'T REINSTALL/UNINSTALL/INSTALL

Hi,so I tried to reinstall iTunes a week ago since the iTunes I already had didn't open. When I saved the iTunes setup file and ran it an error popped out, "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel". Since I already had other Apple files like Quicktime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, etc. Apple's unistalling steps said to unistall pretty much all the programs files associated with Apple. Then I checked my program files for leftover files as Apple tells me too, and reinstall iTunes yet again, but the ERROR COMES AGAIN! So now I have no iTunes,Quicktime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, etc and not that much files left to check.
PLEASE HELP MEEEE!!!

When I saved the iTunes setup file and ran it an error popped out, "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel".
Not the most common message. But it seems to be related to trouble with the iTunes.msi and similar installation configuration information.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Itunes won't totally uninstall, nor install on win 7

I am running Windows 7, and have noticed for a few weeks now that iTunes won't update. I tried uninstalling it but couldn't do that either. I receive error msgs to teh effect about error 5, also that it cannot create a directory. I have admin privledges since I am the only user on this laptop. I have a Toshiba 64 bit. There is plenty of memory and diskspace. I have tried following the directions for uninstalling but it doesn't work. So...even though I hated doing it, I deleted all instances of iTunes and directories and I still can't install it. I can't install the 32-bit either.
    Any help is appreciated.

It's me again. I finally got iTunes to re-install. First I was able to get iTunes to uninstall. Then I closed my browser. Then, I turned off my Microsoft Security Essentials. This time, it installed correctly. I also made sure there were no directories or reg entries mentioning Apple, before I started the installed which I started by using the run feature on windows.

b noir - i have been following your advice and i want to thank you for taking your time to try and solve these problems for ipod users.
i have been following this message board each day for the past week - ever since my iTunes stopped working. i have not yet seen anyone who is receiving the same error message as myself.
like most others, i downloaded the recent update for iTunes - since then, iTunes will not open. i have tried most of the other proposed solutions to no avail, such as downloading a stand-alone version of quicktime, making sure my msconfig start-up has the correct check marks, etc.
the iTunes set-up completes with no problem - i have tried installing by saving the file to my hard drive and then running and also by running the program straight from the download window. same results.
once i go to open iTunes, i receive the following error message: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem." Then I click "Send Error Report" just hoping I will receive a required update to make this work.
i was wondering if you could attempt to help me resolve this issue? i have my music saved to my external hard drive, so i am in no danger of losing my music. however, i need to open iTunes to update my iPod.
thanks in advance for your help.

  • ITunes won't open after install

after installing the update for iTunes, it doesn't run (comp makes noises but nothing comes up on screen). when i open task manager itunes is running as a process, but i can't end process.
I have tried all the fixes suggested by other threads; installing the standalone quicktime, running msconfig, searching for malware, setting up norton to allow itunes and disabling it during install. I followed the instructions for the complete uninstall and tried to reinstall, didn't work. I then did another complete uninstall and installed an older version of iTunes 6 from the cd i got with my iPod, still doesn't work!!
i am at a loss with this, hopefully the next release will fix this issue.
any response would be greatly appreciated

hmmm. okay, Norton is still our prime suspect here. that "running itunes.exe process that will not die" symptom is associated with the nastier versions of the NIS 2005 launch suppression problems. (people who get that also often see things like looooooong sloooooow shutdown times on the PCs and odd end program dialog boxes.)
let's try throwing the trusty Lorraine M technique at the beast. (it usually fixes the nastier versions of the NIS 2005 problems.)

  • Itunes won't open after install of IOS7

After installing IOS7 on my Iphone4S iTunes won't open.  When you click the app it starts to open and then just closes.  I have shut the phone off and checked the settings but nothing seems to be working.  Help?

That behavior indicates that the app is crashing.
I recommend trying a restore.  Plug your iPhone into iTunes (current version: 11.1) and click the Restore button.
Also consider any possible apps you might have that are suspect - possibly corrupt.  Remove any such apps before attempting the restore.

  • ITunes won't open after installing upgrade and restarting

When I click on my iTunes icon in the dock, iTunes won't open. Instead, a message box comes up: "The file iTunes "library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."
Just before this happened, I imported a lot of music into my library. Now iTunes only opens if I pIug my ipod into my Mac.
Is there any way I can get iTunes to open by clicking on the icon, as it used to do?

What version of iTunes is installed in the Apple default location ..... /Applications/iTunes ???
Drag the iTunes icon in the Dock to the Desktop and release; it will be deleted with a poof! Don't worry it's only an alias.
In your Home Page ~/Library/Preferences/ ......... drag to the Trash and delete:
    com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
(don't worry ... new ones will be created upon relaunch of iTunes .... +see below+)
    Using: /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions
    RESTART the computer
Within the Applicatons folder: double-click the iTunes icon ... if the launch is successful, drag a copy of the iTunes icon to the Dock ... release ... you will now have a current alias in the Dock.
P.S. *Do Not* have the iPod connected to the computer during this process!

  • ITunes won't reinstall on Win 7 64bit system

I've been fighting with this for at least 3 weeks and I still can't find the answer. I went to upgrade my iTunes to the current version. I had iTunes installed and working just find, but I like to keep things updated as much as possible. I guess I should have left it alone.
When I update, I prefer to uninstall the current version and then install the new. I have never had a problem before. When I try to install, I get the following message during the install process:
    unknown\components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\5C13C3F8A3C98AA4E8AF179 2A0A75D33
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
I only have one account on my system, so I have total control over everything. I continue with the process and then get the message again. Needless to say, nothing gets installed. I have tried the QuickTime and iTunes combination install and just the QuickTime install with the same results. I have uninstalled everything related to Apple and still the same. I tried the Windows
Install Cleanup program and no luck. I set the permissions for that key, according to another post, and that didn't help. I tried RegSeeker to find all iTunes and Quicktime entries and then delete them, no luck.
At one point, I got an error message at startup (Apple Application Suuport not found.... then install iTunes again). That message is now gone, but I'm not sure which of my attempts corrected that. I was also getting a Quick Time Player error (Please install Apple Application Support) when I tried to start that.
Basically, I've tried everything I can thing of and still no luck getting the new iTunes to install. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
    Mike

    Mike,
I don't have much help for you but I can tell you I have been experiencing this issue for the past several months now; with OTHER applications. I have Windows 7 and only have one user account setup as Admin as well. I've installed everything under that account. I first encountered this type of error with Adobe Reader 9 and Microsoft Office 2007. I first noticed it when trying to apply upgrades to both applications...where both upgrade installers kept failing with the same type of error ("Could Not Open Key: UKNOWN\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\somekey\. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support peronnel.)
Today I tried upgraded iTunes and got a failed install message. I uninstalled the old version and tried installing the 64-bit version of iTunes. I then got the same message above.
When I got to the registry editor for the key listed in the error message, it tells me: "7E577B2224C65CF4E801A9E52375DB49 cannot be openened. An error is preventing this key from being opened. Details: Access is denied." I've read other threads indicating the permissions are not set correction on the key i'm trying to open. So when I right click on the key and click PERMISSIONS, I get an error saying i can't view the current permissions but can make changes (ODD). Clicking OK gives me the ability to edit permissions. Before doing any changes it appears that no permissions are set (none visible - assuming I can't see them based on above error). I add ADMIN as having all permissions available and try to click APPLY / OK but the changes are not made.
The only way I've been able to get around this with Microsoft Office and Adobe was to manually remove all registry keys related to the application I'm removing. I've found articles online which walk you through removing the keys for Office 2007 and Adobe Reader 9 but can't find one for iTunes.
Question: Try going to the following key in your registry and seeing if any of the sub-keys below it give you an error message when you click on them. Do any of them give you an error which indicates you don't have permissions to view that key? Each key under the path below on my computer tells me I don't have permissions to view it. I think there may be something fundamentally wrong with Windows 7...or these apps are not installing correctly from the beginning.
    Key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Co mponents\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8
If you have the same problem...I'm wondering if you and I can team up to figure out what may causing this. Perhaps we should push this issue to Microsoft somehow.

  • Itunes won't open after Installing 9 update

I installed the Itunes 9 upgrade. It downloaded fine. Then when it was done, I clicked on Itunes on my dock to open it but it just bounced like it was going to open but then stops and nothing opens. Is this happening for anyone else? Any suggestions on what to do...

The same thing happened to me where the icon "bounces," but iTunes won't open.
So apparently I don't have the right version of OSX for the program. OK. So what to do I to get back my old iTunes?
I'm a little ****** about this because I feel like a warning should have popped up somewhere during the installation process telling me my system wouldn't accommodate the new iTunes.
Secondly, I'm ****** off at myself because all of this trouble was caused by trying to download an episode of freakin' "Top Chef." Why on earth would the show require the newest version of iTunes?

  • My itunes won't reinstall due to error 7 and windows error 127, i have tried ways of re installing it and everything crashes! help!

I went on my itunes about a week ago and it sid it recognised my ipod but couldn't detect it in itunes (or something like that), so following the instructions given i uninstalled itunes. then when i went to re install it, an error code came up saying error 7 (windows error 127). so following steps of previous discussions i tried to delete the whole itunes programme and apple application support. although this then failed and wouldn't let me delete it. now when i click on itunes it comes up with error 2 (windows error 2) please help!!

Guess you have to do Uninstall and Re-install of iTunes from scratch.
    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • ITunes Won't Open -- Uninstalled and Reinstalled

I am unable to open iTunes on my pc. I tried uninstalling QuickTime and reinstalling and it did not work. Then I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled, and still it will not open. Whether I try through the icon or through the programs menu, it just will not open. Any tips?

I have Norton 2006, I believe, installed on it. It's set to expire in 2 months.
hmmmm. much rarer to get error-message-free launch failures associated with 2006 (or 2007) than it is with 2005 ... but we'd better follow up on this.
it's been a while since my 2006 expired, and i'm at 2007 now. but i'll try to remember what it's going to look like for you. apologies if the instructions are a bit sketchy.
    quit iTunes and QuickTime.
bring up your Protection Center and click on Norton Personal Firewall. click the configure button.
    make sure that all of:
Apple Software Update (May be called just "Software Update")
    Apple iTunes (or "iTunes")
    iTunes Helper
QuickTime Player (or "Apple QuickTime Player")
... are all being allowed full access to the internet.
okay out of the tab, and try launching iTunes again.
do you get a launch this time?

Yeah, I have the same problem. I wiped everything on my computer and reinstalled Windows XP, then download iTunes 7.7 and installed it. Quicktime works fine, but when I click on iTunes, it looks busy for a second but then never opens the window. But when I shut my computer down, a dialog box pops up that says it needs to close iTunes before shut down.
